At which point do you think using references is not ok anymore? I'm not talking about practice, but using references for actual work.

For example, would it be ok to constantly use references but turning them into your own style/add some imagination to it? Or is using references only ok, if you use it rarely or to the point where you hardly can recognize the reference anymore?

Nigga even James Gurney uses reference. Your work is going to suffer if you don't, simple as that. I've even seen Kim Jung Gi use reference for guns when drawing his comic books. Don't be retarded.

It also depends on how you use reference. If you mean Irakli tier, then yeah, that's definitiely not okay - his work is entirely dependent upon the works of skilled photographers. But if Irakli came up with his own pose, anatomy and lighting and only used indirect reference I wouldn't...

I never even questioned using references, dumbass. Of course it is ok to use references, but to which point is the question.

>if Irakli came up with his own pose, anatomy and lighting
So in other words if he didn't use any reference at all... Great! Drawing pose, anatomy and lighting are the main reasons why people use references, dumbass. Otherwise you could just look at your own body draw pictures from that.

>So in other words if he didn't use any reference at all... Great!

No, that's not what I'm saying. I'm saying that you should have maximum creative freedom and you can't have that if you rely on photographs to create poses and compositions. If you were commissioned to draw Deadpool fighting a dozen of backflipping ninjas with swords in a japanese pine tree forest obviously it wouldn't be practical to need a perfect reference photo for each individual...

I just started drawing furry fetish porn a few weeks ago. Opened commissions a week ago and finished 2 so far. Made $80. Recently got a $65 commission I'll be starting later.
I'll be raising prices once I start getting more people interested and once i get over 250 followers which will probably be in another week or two at the rate things are going.

BTW I'm drawing literally everything and anything, first commission was fart related. Take that as you will but I'm only doing this for a...

ITT: discussions about payment and the rules.

my dilemma is that at the start of a project i agreed to the price of 50 AUD per page (i know im cheap) of coloring for a small comic book company with a total of 12 issues each with 32 pages.

but i just got paid for the first issue and the guy paid me with USD instead...

whilst in writing it clearly states that we agree upon 50 AUD...

basically i was supposed to get paid 1600 AUD but i received 2113 AUD.

what would loomis do?
can i get in trouble legally if i dont point it out to them?

Honestly, do the right thing. You don't want to come off as a shifty jew if they find out.

It can give you a quick buck but long term pointing out that they made a mistake will make you look like a class act and may even earn you a bonus and ensure future gigs. Speaking from experience here.

One of my primary goals right now is to be capable of drawing the human body in pretty much any position without relying on reference. I know there are artists that have already succeeded in doing this, but how? I need to know what they did in order to achieve this. Ive been doing gesture drawing from pose maniacs every day for the past week, and while I think im seeing progress, I have doubts that im taking the correct road to this goal...
Any advice

commit all your free time to drawing from Bridgman and going to nude model sessions. Avoid drawing from photos. Its a loftier goal than you think and requires more sacrifice than you can imagine. You probably won't make it.

also a general piece of advice i learned from vilppu is
take the pose yourself
feel the tension, feel the weight, feel the gravity, and then draw it. note the points that feel heavy, note the points that feel strained etc

This thread is meant for artists who might want to try to make anime works in-between their studies. It is strongly recommended that you use this thread in conjunction with learning the elements and fundamentals of art. You can also discuss the visual elements of various professional artists as well if you keep it relatively articulate and civil.

Submit your drawings, receive feedback or critique others! Share your knowledge and remember to thank those who've critiqued...

It's really tricky finding that balance, anon.

It's always best to work up to anything, rather than taking on complex things from the get-go.

Not spending too much time in your comfort zone, but also not doing something that you're just not ready for, yeah, that's hard. I'd recommend biting the bullet for this one project, and trying your best to learn from it. Yeah, it's probably going to suck, but the experience will help you on the long run.
>>
you will learn more from failing at these than you will doing anything else.

seeking specific answers for questions that arise from failure will make the pdfs a lot more useful,
but ultimately it's learning from failure itself that will make you better.

improvement is a marathon, not a race. being discouraged is equivalent to slowing down, not stopping.

have you guys ever tried drawing without pressure sensitivity ? i feel like i have much more control over my painting when i use that method (it works best on a huge-ass canvas)
57 replies and 9 images submitted. Click here to view.

>>2661948

I've done quite a bit of painting on the ipad with procreate this summer with a cheap five dollar stylus with no pressure sensitivity. It has been a real eye opener and really makes you think before making a mark.

I also sometimes draw without pressure sensitivty in photoshop when doing gestural stuff and laying in a figure. It can be more direct that way.
>>
>>2661948
I used to use pressure sensitivity religiously, but in the last year I've re learned the value of turning it off every now and then. I usually have transfer on (which uses pressure to determine how opaque the stroke is) but it's absolutely not necessary to have shape dynamics pressure sensitivity on all the time.
>>
>>2661948
i pretty much only use pressure for size/flow jitter now, much easier on the wrist.

>>2661968
it definitely forces you to be more decisive with your brush strokes
