Anyone of you chumps aware of Darkgem? The furry artist? I juts came across him by chance (lol) and was absolutely blown away by how good he is. Some of his stuff atleast.

He has a few paintings of bara type anthro characters with dick and balls showing, that are straight up top 0.1% skill bracket.

What the fuck though... it's so confusing to see something so low-brow subject matter wise be painted with such incredible skill and taste (by taste I mean the lighting and colors, not the gigantic cock and balls poking out towards the viewer).

So I really...

From the example you posted, he's good, but I wouldn't say .1%, or even 1%. He has great command of anatomy as well as light and color, but the subject itself is, how to say, plain? Typical? Not really uninspired, but I've seen it before.

totally totally totally forget all these guidelines people draw, it's a fashion trend, it ruins sketches.

When you're drawing compare distances to each other aloud in your head, really try to make mental notes of where things are in comparison to one another.

Then try this at a life class or sketching people in cafes.

You can train yourself to judge distances by being acutely aware.
>>
>>2653678
Can someone verify this? I hate the idea of learning with those stupid guidelines. Cartoony shit like that is an eyesore to me.

There is a ton of nsfw art that is crudely drawn but still manages to have some fap appeal. I can appreciate that. But this... Just has zero appeal or redeeming qualities. It's some of the worst erotic art I've ever seen and I've seen a lot. This is garbage even by the lowest of standards. You can get pretty good at gesture without knowing much anatomy, but you can never get great at it without a solid foundation of anatomy.

Many teachers treat gestures as a beginner exercise or simply a warmup and I think this is a mistake. Doing lots of gestures without knowing anatomy can build bad habits and is not an effective way to learn in my opinion.

So yes, sit down and learn your anatomy. Copy out all the plates from a couple different anatomy books, cross referencing the information. After each...

Gesture is you (the artist) pointing (via lines) to the viewer "look here, now here, ok, now move your eye over there, ..." It's the flow throughout the artpiece, a (virtual) highlighter used to mark the interesting parts.

it's easy if you practice comparative measuring.
and value/shape abstraction.

every observable shape can be used as a 'ruler' to measure the distance between other shapes.

for example,

>the length of the triangle cast shadow on the bottom right of her nose is equal to the width of her nose
>the triangle shadow shape on the right of her jaw is roughly equal to the cast shadow triangle on her neck

if you practice making these observations, you'll always have obscenely...
