Is rural Japan that fun??
Please answer rural otakus
Somewhat echoing this statement, rural Japan is (at least in my mind) the most "authentic" Japan you're likely to find. All the urban areas are heavily American/Westernized.
The time I visited Japan (just Tokyo) I was a bit underwhelmed really. It's just a cleaner version of Manhattan if we're being genuine - and I had trouble finding anything that seemed genuinely and originally Japanese. Almost everything in modern Japan is no different from Europe / America except for having funky moon runes covering it.
What happened to the good ol' Meiji days when there was a nice balance of authentic Japanese and foreign? ;_;
Just about the only "fun" and "real" Japanese stuff you're likely to find in a city is that one weird old guy that wears those clip-clop geta sandals.
Apparently polled research has revealed that the sound of geta-clopping is the most nostalgic piece of old Japan that still exists nowadays.
Why was patchy turned into a loli? Must have been a failed magic experiment.
Also, I prefer japanese Rugal over japanese rurals.
The Japanese were the only people who realized that their culture sucked and they needed to adopt enlightened Western cultural forms to succeed. This is why they became a powerful empire while other non-Western states became colonies. So instead of being distressed you can't find the indigenous culture, be happy Japan transcended that crap a while ago.
Have you the personality of an old man? Yes
Rural areas have nothing for the modern person's standards. Yes, the scenery is nice and relaxing, sure. That would be a great vacation, sure.
But living there is a different matter, there's a reason if young people are leaving the rural areas to leave them to their sad deaths.
If you ever go to any rural part of Japan you will be a lot more ostracized by being a foreigner than in any other part of the country.
People will force you to use a foreigner-only bathroom and you won't even find anyone willing to speak with you.
This is the reality, stop dreaming nerds.
I really want to experience a rural japanese summer festival.
I really dont have any interest in going to Tokyo but seeing the countryside of japan interests me more. The matsuris just make it even more interesting.
japanfag here. lived here 8 years in various parts and have traveled most of the country.
What >>13328691 said is true to an extent, but you have to remember that Tokyo is it's own thing. Tokyo's weird and un-Japanese even for the average Japanese person.
Smaller cities (circa 300,000ppl) are a nice mix of modern life and convenience but still have a "This is Japan" feel. It just differs slightly one place to the next. I lived in 1 such city and it's downtown area was insane, bars and shit everywhere. I lived in another city not very far, same population and it was way different. The only bar in that 2nd city would only get 4 people in it max. But the 2nd city felt more "Japanese".
I've just moved again to a small rural town and it feels exactly like what you'd imagine Japan to be like from anime set in the country (like OP's or say, Onegai Teacher or whatever) but to be brutally honest it's boring as fuck. The sense of community is stronger though but that's no different to country vs city life anywhere in the world.
tl;dr The big cities don't feel so Japanese but the country does. Country's boring though.
Yea, just get more than 30min drive away from the shinkansen line and it gets really rural really quickly. Just need a car.
Even rural Japanese towns have at least a 7/11 and fiber optic internet. Japanese simply can't survive without those 2 things.
You'd literally have to move to Yonaguni Is. or the Daitou islands to not have either of those.
He's right. Many people misunderstand what westernized means. Westernized is synonymous with modernity and enlightenment. What makes western culture unique is that it unlike say, Japanese culture, was and is meant for everyone. It was designed to be universal to humanity.
Western just means modern and advanced.
Japan may be techy in a lot of ways (in certain areas) but the west is more technologically advanced which is why even rural areas have high tech.
Western culture is simply superior culture and only a fool would debate it. Asia would be more like Africa without it, only more civilized, with brighter people and a finer culture.
Asia has never been anything like Africa. Nothing is like Africa, not even the middle east. Look how little things have changed after all that European colonization. Africa can't change. It refuses to.
But hipsters love nature and rural areas.
This is like the /jp/ farming village all over the place, you guys want to live there because you don't know how it actually feels to live there. Specially considering most of you guys are fucking lazy and weak.
If you speak fluent Japanese you MIGHT make a few friends from work who will ask you questions beyond where you're from and how long you've been there, and oh my, you're so good at using chopsticks.
A city around 100-200k is ideal, but really you're going to be bored out of your mind with anything smaller. Rural life means you might not even have an izakaya to kill a few hours drunkenly at. There are only so many rice paddies you can see before getting bored out of your mind. People will never stop staring and wondering how long you'll be there, since us foreigners are ultimately pretty transient. Matsuri's are pretty nice for the local flavor, but again, these are country hicks who aren't exactly practicing their dance moves as much as having to remember tradition once a year.
Tokyo a shit though.
>Japan may be techy in a lot of ways (in certain areas) but the west is more technologically advanced which is why even rural areas have high tech.
>but the west is more technologically advanced
So that's why Japan and Korea have fiber networks while DSL is still the most poplar ISP in American.
No. I'm calling you a retard for not realizing something plainly obvious. The fact that you would not only ask a redundant question, but follow it up with getting butthurt as fuck leads me to retract my views on your IQ being room temperature in favor of you actually being genuinely retarded. No wonder most racists are inbred.
And if you're curious as to why I was distracted I was busy ejaculating inside your sister and wiping out your recessive genes. Whoops.
The minor mistake isn't his fault. Asking a dumb question is his fault.
Ha, so you are an angry nignog. Also, you quoted the wrong person again since that wasn't even me lel. What I was asking is how you could, after being retarded twice, still be mad enough to post it again. Then I took a guess. I know the answer now though, so don't worry about it.
>bragging about being a anti racist and having sex
Look. I've already worked out that you consider yourself smart, but being smarter than the people around you is easy when you live with black people, so don't be fooled into thinking you're anything special. And no you did not quote me, I didn't say anything. That was somebody taking you on a ruse cruise. Maybe you should delete your other post too and repost it once you've got things all sorted out. Maybe you'll only have to do it once this time?
No. I quoted the person I was talking to. It's like you're trying to appear clever and have some sort of point, but just failing and reaffirming how stupid you are.
I recommend you stop typing before you hurt yourself.
nu uh I din get fooled the fact I said "you" and referenced your original question din mean nothin! u retarded.
Alright, alright. Whatever. Just keep it on the down low. Just call me stupid again, pull the >>>/pol/ card, and call it a day.
Take pictures and post em on the jay.
It's not like I go out except to go to work or get groceries anyway. Sometimes I'll go on walks, but those are better in rural areas.
Have you considered that some people just enjoy quieter lives?
>Have you considered that some people just enjoy quieter lives?
This right here, man. If you're all about clubbing and whatnot, you won't like the countryside. But if you like peace and quiet and nature, it's the best thing ever.
Sugita lives in the mountains of Saitama, one of the places that Non Non Biyori was based after (Sugita went to the school that is shown in the anime), and at least few years ago still had ISDN because the operators don't give a fuck about the area (they laughed at him on the phone when he asked about getting a fiber optic).
>just a cleaner version of Manhattan
You don't live here, do you?
Manhattan a shit.
As a place to live, Tokyo is infinity times better than NYC in almost every way imaginable.
>If you can only speak english you're fucked, but then why the shit are you in rural japan?
I want to get away from it all and work as a farmer in a rural Japanese village with nothing but old people.
Friendly old people that accept me for what I am and welcome me into their home despite the fact that I don't understand jack of what they say or write.
It's the dream, dude.
It's the dream.
One day I'm gonna do it, just watch.
Rural America has tons of wide open space, beautiful untouched wilderness, and guns and speed.
Can I take amphetamines and shoot a bear with a rifle while enjoying the view of a big pretty mountain if I'm in rural Japan?
You'll only get your ear torn off if you try to hunt them with rifles. What you really need to down one is a massive pack of stray dogs.
>The western world started a sharp decline after WW2 and it's currently in a very low point as far as culture.
>Just look at the Swedes.
Most healthy nation on the world ATM.
Seriously, go to /pol/, your friends are waiting for you.
I had to flood a thread last night to send you two into the back pages. Fuck off back to /pol/, the both of you. Talking about social justice or niggers or whatever is verboten
Was rural Japan harmed by the war or was it mostly untouched by it? I know that a lot of the cultural sites in the cities were burned and had to be rebuilt or abandoned, but aren't there a lot of temples and castles in the countryside?
Which rural area that you wanted to live /jp/?
Mine's in Nara, Katsuragi. Taking the image from google map to get familiar with the scenery.
The flowers are beautiful too.
Also, come on /jp/. I'm trying to divert the attention from all /pol/ bullshit here.
OK then we're all it.
I'm a boy BTW.
But I wish a was a girl.
I wish I was a cute country tomboy girl living the rural life.
Can you guys get out already?
I just want to discuss cute rural things.
This image represents my rural Japan fantasies accurately.
I can just imagine walking hours and hours along a cute pale highschooler. The intense heat, the lack of other people, the cicadas....
It's just like my Chinese porn slideshows!
Especially the hornets... these fucking Hornets.
I was able to visit Hokkaido (near the Sapporo area) for around a month last summer, where I worked on a farm. Honestly, it was a lot like rural America. If you like rural life, it's nice, and I think Hokkaido looks especially beautiful, but unless you want to spend all your time around plants and animals, it's a fair commute to get anywhere of value.
So basically, like rural life literally anywhere else.
Yep, they make nests outside of my workplace every summer, and because we rarely use air conditioning we, we keep the windows open nearly all the time... I keep a can of hornet spray handy at all times.
