>I've decided not to promote this title since my promotion of Oyako Rankan resulted in a 5-day account suspension. As such the OP has been removed. I've also decided to no longer purchase or promote other MangaGamer releases.
Oh no, how the hell will mangagamer recover without all that free advertising on fuwanovel and his blog?
Has anyone else noticed that video game journalists tend to be some of the most easily butthurt people on the internet? Let's find out if it lets me post that word.
They've got such massive egos too, even if they haven't actually provided much of worth. I think an indie dev put it well when he pointed out that the industry could live without journalists, but journalists can't live without the industry.
It's hardly ``epic drama'' when it's just one guy who isn't remotely important, famous, or even female (I explicitly mention female because for some reason, drama around females tends to create much bigger waves).
My assumption is that they like getting butthurt because the holier-than-thou garbage they write afterwards gets them more views. I don't see why people follow the "drama" they try to create.
I do understand why people would follow it, actually. Because above all else, people are the hungriest for drama. They don't care about positive things, they want a show. And that's what they get with drama. This is why sites like Kotaku and Polygon are so popular despite being horrible - they go for drama first and foremost.
As usual I'm not gonna open that image but it's annoying how people keep comparing Asterisk to Chivalry of a Failed Knight. The latter is way better, and honestly you can make anything sound similar if you get vague enough with your comparisons. Baldr Sky is basically the exact same thing as a Sakura game.
The former is honestly not bad either (some pretty nice animation at times too), it's just that neither them are particularly groundbreaking in terms of their premise. My point is basically just that similarities to bad things don't automatically make something bad. Asterisk has already been confirmed for split cour too so that's gonna be around for a while.
What is it you've heard about the Rakudai anime? Incidentally that show also has the best OP of the season.
I heard that it plays the generic harem bits a lot more straight than the LNs themselves, doing the standard tsundere shtick even when the characters aren't actually like so. And reducing cool moments that displays the protagonist's skills.
I understand what you mean about premise as before reading Rakudai, I thought it had one of the most painfully generic premise too, but actually reading it turned out to be a fun, full of great action and sweet romance that you wouldn't realize from the surface layer.
So let me get this straight, since it seems to be flying under the radar entirely again (as expected of JAST): JAST promised to release an 'unofficial' uncensor patch to remove the censorship for Shiny Days, which totally made the censorship okay, then just didn't release the uncensor patch?
The initial release seems pretty buggy, it's probably best they wait 3-4 weeks before releasing the uncensor patch.
That said, hurry the fuck up JAST. I'll gladly pick it up as soon as the patch is out.
>TL already translated first game or what?
I'm probably missing some kind of "irony" here, but first game was translated long before sekai project even thought about licensing it.
Interesting, I didn't get the impression that it was playing it straight, which is one reason why I'm enjoying it so much. And the protagonist has been quite cool. Sounds like people are just being stupid, as usual.
>Bundle redemption appears to have finally ceased.
I don't know about that, Demon Master Chris, We Love Master, and Ecchi Mery among others are currently among MG's best selling titles at the moment.
He did violate the rules, but couldn't they have just removed the link from the post and had a little description saying why it was removed? Doing that and letting him off with a warning the first time probably would have gone over better.
I suppose MG staff want to make their position clear. No kinds of links to fan-translation patches and promotion of such patches are allowed.
This is also a good blow to that guy that is letting his ego grow bigger and bigger.
Is Doddler going to switch to Ren'py?
>but it's annoying how people keep comparing Asterisk to Chivalry of a Failed Knight.
Can you really blame people when the first episodes were nearly identical.
You know, I have completely forgotten that Subahibi is supposed to come out at this point. There are so many games coming out constantly now, who even has time for the work of some neckbeard like Herkz? Summer might have been a good time to do it since there's always a drought, but that opportunity has long passed. You fucked up. May as well not even bother releasing it, because nobody's going to play it.
> There are so many games coming out constantly now
Really? You weren't expecting the games that are most like Sakura Spirit to sell the best? This is what appeals to people. Low-priced fanservice VNs. There's quite an appeal to MangaGamer too since they can skip the translating part. Honestly, it's not a bad idea at all. There are tons of VNs like this in Japanese that are not worth translating, better to just have some folks whip up English equivalents and focus on translating the real deal games.
It's not surprising given MG's recent releases.
-October 2, The Menagerie
-September 25, A Kiss for the Petals RHWM - All-ages game that's a fandisc to an untranslated game, that can also be bought on Steam.

Games, retard. Not VNs. Actual high quality video games with gameplay. Get out of your box.
That said, if you were hoping to show a lack of quality with that image, you didn't do well, considering we've gotten some big VNs over the past few months too. The rate at which VNs are being translated is impressive, when you think back to the years when we were lucky to get two patches in an entire year.
A few similar aspects does not mean they are identical. Oh man, Sword Art Online and Kikokugai both have a sword wielder that wears a black longcoat, guess they're the same thing.
I'm probably not going to bother with Asterisk to find out its quality until it's over, but I thought Cavalry's second episode was pretty good. Don't see what there is to hate about it.
What's with this specification about "first time releases"? You realize most people here aren't able to play these games in Japanese, right? This is the first time some people have ever been able to play Lamento. You cannot deny that is a big deal.
> What's with this specification about "first time releases"?
It means re-releasing Grisaia for shekels doesn't count.
> This is the first time some people have ever been able to play Lamento. You cannot deny that is a big deal.
Sorry, but niche BL game cannot be called big deal.
データ数 23 — even doujin crap gets more votes than this.
>This is the first time some people have ever been able to play Lamento. You cannot deny that is a big deal.
Random fringe yaoi crap badly machine translated by a group that shits out 4-5 'translations' a year?
I think it's pretty easy to deny that's a big deal.
>niche and "fringe"
There is naught but to lol at this. What do you guys do with your lives besides sitting around listening to Moogy-sama and wishing you could understand Japanese?
Your bl shit:
Numbers don't lie.
Just because it has a middling reputation, poor sales, and nobody played it doesn't mean it's not niche and fringe!
It's full price is only $7.95 and it had a launch discount of 10% off. And when you take into account Steam's 30% cut, it's sales might as well be around 2,000. Plus, Steamspy includes steam keys activated by purchasing from MG.
Mugi doesn't even play actual eroge. He's not looking for good ero or good characters, he's looking for hipster/progressive writing with crazy stories. That kind of stuff is in decline, but ero itself is doing well. We will see less titles released in next years, but it would still be more than one could read, if one can enjoy ero/moe stuff.
Moogy's also declared that there will be only three more high profile eroge, ever. He's already named which three they are. None of them have been released.
Because a couple of his favorite pretentious authors are writing LNs. LNs that aren't even particularly popular at that.
I feel sorry for all those poor bastards buying the Menagerie, I pirated it and I still feel ripped off.
Barely any porn, terrible writing and scenes appearing out of order and in the middle of other scenes.
I would say 'I don't know why Mangagamer puts this shit on their site' but I suppose it's for the cash money
I started playing it but after having to deal with no sounds and coding errors that the developer said he's going to fix next week, I have the game on hold.
I'm not expecting decent writing. It's too soon to expect that from OELVNs.
There's apparently a patch that's supposed to be coming out for that, since the programming is a mess at the moment. They also said they'd try to explain some of the plot points better. I thought they beta tested it, which was why they delayed it for 2 weeks.
>I'm not expecting decent writing. It's too soon to expect that from OELVNs.
I personally thought Human Reignition Project had pretty decent writing. Though it's almost all just slice-of-life stuff in the demo, so I don't know if they're also good at writing more serious stuff.
Summer House also had good writing, but that project was never finished.
According to Steamspy 3,000 copies give or take a thousand. It didn't sell well, but that's to be expected given it's a direct sequel to stuff they hadn't yet released. One of the more stupid decisions by MG in recent times.
3000 copies is probably about within mangagamer's expectations, to be honest. It's a short game, so it would have turned a profit with half that. I doubt they're particularly disappointed.
KnS2 though, now that's shaping up to be a big disappointment .
Story games have always run the risk of loss for MG, which is why they do so many nukige. Steam is what makes story vns more viable, but the KnS series doesn't have all-ages versions.
>They need to hype up the previous games to build demand.
That's not exactly something that can be done.
Still I can't help but feel that it might have been smarter to colon the game into something Kara no Shoujo: Girl of the Void or something instead of labeling it "the second episode".
Tokisaka is still chasing after Touko and the events are linked with the characters of the first episode and what happend in Cartagra.
Sure you can read it as a stand-alone like a moron but you will not fully enjoy it if you didn't read KnS and Cartagra before. InnoGrey made a whole universe here and it's dumb to start by the end.
I can't wait to see Touji again. People who will start with KnS2 will never know how important she was before.
I can't blame MG for saying that you can read it as a stand-alone because they really need money but it's some hypocritical bullshit here.
Then we might be living in different Japans.
The VN authors that I hear treated with respect around here are mainly 田中ロミオ, 丸戸史明, 王雀孫, るーすぼーい, 奈須きのこ, and, unfortunately, 麻枝准 and タカヒロ. Other names that I sometimes see come up are 虚淵玄, 正田崇, 瀬戸口廉也, 東出祐一郎, and maybe 日野亘. That's about it.
Then you have people like 健速 and 菅野ひろゆき that used to be highly respected but now are either dead or producing shit.
I see very few other authors ever mentioned by name, instead being called smth like Muv-Luv guy or Muramasa guy (you have to be both good AND prolific for ppl to remember you).
Incidentally, a lot of ppl treat Sharin no Kuni as the best visual novel ever written around here, and almost anybody into VNs knows the name Looseboy.
So, yeah, I have no idea where you're coming from saying that he's not "respected". I can only think of Romeo as a more influential writer in the whole industry.
> most respected
> juukishi scandal
> bokusen failure
Where do you even get this shit? Noone takes that hack seriously anymore and nobody in VN industry is willing to employ him, that's why he's running away to LNs.
I highly doubt writing one vn that's not even exactly bad, just kind of meh, is quite enough to make ppl forget he gave birth to two of the most influential vns ever. Not to mention, regardless of critical reception, it's among the best selling eroge of the year.
Just having Looseboy's name in the credits boosts sales, so you'd have to be quite a retarded businessman not to want it.
You seem to be trying to bend reality just because you don't like Looseboy. How many of the other 100+ writers that released their eroge this year you can name?
Go read /hgame/ or japanese eroge blogs. He is only mentioned in regards to whole juukishi fiasco, nobody ever remembers stuff he did in the past. Bokusen was forgotten next week after release.
> he gave birth to two of the most influential vns ever
EOP, pls. Nothing he wrote ever "influenced" anything, he's not Urobuchi or even Nasu.
> Go read /hgame/ or japanese eroge blogs.
Isn't whose full of moefags? Such type can't possibly appreciate plot centered vn. At least Sharin no Kuni is definitely very good vn and those are rare. "EOP" excuse is not applying here.
You'd sound more convincing if Bokusen wasn't the second most voted eroge on egs this year, and Sharin no Kuni wasn't #1 of all time (even above FSN).
I don't even like Looseboy that much, and I can still tell you're full of shit. Or is google translate you use to read those blogs giving you a skewed picture of things?
You claimed that Masada, Alicesoft, Eushully and so on fans are "moefags" who cannot comprehend "plot vns".
> You'd sound more convincing if Bokusen wasn't the second most voted eroge on egs this year
With #59 spot of yearly rating, worse than things like 種付け牧場学園 ～学園丸ごとご主人様の家畜ブヒ. Truly highly-respected author, huh.
Rance X will be high profile.
Alicesoft have finally stopped making shit and more importantly it's the series finale and Demons are what everyone loved about Kichikuou Rance anyway
Dies Irae? And almost every chu2 vn that came after it?
You know that people who write vns also tend to read vns, especially those that are popular? And that's how influence usually works even if it's not always explicit?
Once again the English release ends up superior to the Japanese one.
>It's weird encountering lines in games that, due to scripting mistakes, never actually showed in the original.
>There's a few lines that never displayed in Gahkthun, and in KnS2 the very last line of the game got skipped due to a typo.
>mostly just random narration in a couple places. It seems unintentional though, so we're putting them back.
Source: Doddler's twitter
You just had the same idea as Herkz. How do you feel about that?
I don't know if KnS2 is a ripoff of some mystery novel, but I wouldn't be surprised given what I know about Cartagra and KnS.
Of course that doesn't mean it can't be a good story. Hopefully InnoGrey ripped off something really epic

Their last kickstarter update they shilled the fuck out of
1) Sekai Project
2) Sekai Project's failing kickstarter
3) 2 other Sekai Project games
It's like age licensed it to a company known in Japan that just dumped half the work off on someone else anyways.
Pissed off at fuwanovel for deleting one of his threads, pissed off at mangagamer for banning him, pissed off at reddit for being pissed off about his blog shilling, pissed off at jast for the shitty shiny days launch....
It was a thread about that dlsite park loli molesting adv. Apparently it was too loli for fuwa.
Kinda strange though, since they've got an immoral little translation project going on now.
Why don't people realize that erogedownload's admin isn't a translator?
>Dear Admin-chan,can you please upload Dracu-Riot next?I’ve been waiting for a fully translated version for a long time but it never came out.I’m counting for you to take up from where Insem left off..
The official releases even have the company logos come up on them, why do people think that the admin is the one doing the translations?
Man, it doesn't surprise me that people are dumb enough to assume he's the translator, but this person even names Insem. So he knows names of actual translators (I'm using this term loosely but you know what I mean) but somehow is still this stupid.
There's been way, way too much noise with two OELVNs, two games, and bundles happening to make anywhere near an accurate prediction, but if I were to take a guess I'd say probably about 200-300.
kns3 confirmed for never, guess maria'll be translating alicesoft from here on.
It's a sequel to two games that didn't sell well. I don't think it can be seen as representative for all 18+ plot games.
I'll be buying Gahkthun, but I never finished Kara no Shoujo 1; why would I buy its sequel?
I've heard it's actually doing very well so, uh, way to kill your own point?
Seriously, in what world is the School Days series not a big deal? This is literally one of the most high budget VNs out there.
Remember when Moogy intentionally sabotaged JAST to try and make them look like a bad company when really it was completely his own fault? Good times, almost as good as when I got Herkz's ass fired. Not even the first time I've fucked him, either.
Gahkthun will do find, as they'll be able to put that on Steam (they might even be able to get away with that being uncensored on Steam, considering that Yurirei is making it uncut).
Maybe if you FUCKING MAKE A STEAM VERSION, you can get more people to buy the game! Jesus Christ, you retards. Have you learned nothing from the fact that your games on Steam ACTUALLY SELL? How fucking hard can it be to turn Kara no Shoujo into a game that can be put on Steam, the sex scenes are absolutely meaningless.
>The unfortunate truth is Cartagra hasn't sold enough. The minimum HC print quantity exceeds it's total sales...
This is a very interesting piece of information.
We can already guess that when MG prints hard-copies, they print several hundred units.
From what I can tell, not many western fans (read: those that buy games) are fond of games such as KnS. Hence the reason why Cartagra didn't sell well and KnS 2 following the same path (not to mention it's a sequel). KnS actually sold reasonably well (after the LE sold out, MG printed a regular version) because it was reviewed on Kotaku and a youtuber was playing it. If KnS also gets a review on Kotaku and a youtuber gets on it, it's reasonable to expect its sales to grow much more. Anyway, the game is only on pre-order which means that people who know about it are those that have some knowledge of commercial releases of VNs. Time will tell if this release eventually become a success.
On another note, I fear the same will happen with Bokuten because it isn't a happy game.
18+ plot games still run the risk of loss, so it having an all-ages version they can license (OreTsuba never), being able to easily create one (Cho Dengeki Stryker), or it being non-explicit enough to put on Steam (Gahkthun and Yurirei) will make those licenses more appealing to go after.
I personally believe cartagra's sold about 800 copies, so that's interesting information indeed. That would mean the minimum order PCR will take from mangagamer is probably a thousand copy print run.
Please note that Gahkthun isn't confirmed for Steam yet. Also, since the game has big boobs you can certainly expect people making an even bigger uproar than they did with Yurirei. I know it seems I am joking but I'm saying this quite seriously.
People keep talking about Gahkthun on Steam, but that still may not be possible. While it's true that Gahkthun doesn't show dicks or vag, from what I understand Yurirei is still a good bit less explicit. Steam is inconsistent as hell so who knows, but I wouldn't get your hopes up.
>From what I can tell, not many western fans (read: those that buy games) are fond of games such as KnS.
Really? I thought the western fanbase loved mystery stories, since they seem so fond of Umineko. Kara no Shoujo is a much darker story though.
>KnS actually sold reasonably well (after the LE sold out, MG printed a regular version)
I remember MG staff mentioning that they shilled the KnS hard copies pretty hard during conventions to sell them, so that probably drove the hard copy sales up.
Given that Kara no Shoujo is MG's 5th best selling game ever as of January of this year, it's a bit surprising its sequel is doing so poorly at the moment. It could just mean that many people never finished the first game, but a worse take away could be that many people didn't end up liking it, so they don't want to purchase its sequel. My theory is that there are a good number of people waiting on a hard copy of it to come out, but since it needs a certain number of digital sales first, they may cause a hard copy of it to not happen.
They really need to start shilling the KnS series as the perfect vns to play for Halloween.
>I fear the same will happen with Bokuten because it isn't a happy game.
That game almost killed OVERDRIVE, so there are many people hesitant to play it due to them assuming it's going to be shit. MG has also given me the impression that it's not one of their priority projects, since it's been sitting unworked on for a long time now, them having prioritized eden* and Supipara over it.
I really can't imagine there are "many" people in the English fanbase who keep up with how a Japanese company performed as a result of a VN that hasn't even been translated yet. People mainly just judge based on how the game itself looks. So if they're interested or uninterested, it's because of Bokuten, nothing else. Besides, that only happened because Japanese people hate when a company they're loyal to betrays their expectations so they got really mad that they did something that wasn't a moege. Nothing to do with the quality of the game itself.
>They really need to start shilling the KnS series as the perfect vns to play for Halloween.
On that note, are they actually? It looks like Subahibi is never going to come out so I might start a new VN soon. and I like when it's somewhat appropriate for the season.
Ah, but I haven't read Cartagra either so maybe that first. I'm not sure if you include that as part of the KnS series or not.
Is it suppose to be surprising ? There is literally no advertising at all for KnS 2 and it's a sequel, even if you lied about it and say that it can be read as a stand-alone, people will not buy the third installment of a serie without reading the others.
This is no wonder because the western fanbase is mostly made of garbage who want to show off their moege at their friends on Steam or want to read crappy nukige made by second class eroge company unknown in Japan.
Serious story-driven visual novel are doomed.
I pre-ordered KnS2 because i'm a big fan of IG and I want to reward the work of Maria and the others people who worked on it.
And i'll not blame MG when they will do only moege, second-class nukige, crappy title only made for steam, OELVN and maybe kickstarter. Because at least they tried.
You won't get the whole experience because you won't get nostalgic over old characters but honestly, they summarize who's who in the beginning and then the storyline goes its own way. It's up to you, really.
Speaking of Halloween, they should start putting up KnS 2 theme on their website if they want advertise it better. That banner they have currently doesn't really do much. It's quite plain. I almost skipped it.
Wait for the snow, pal.
I did that for Cartagra and KnS and it was worth the wait. These titles have a strong atmosphere, especially Cartagra and reading them when you are fully immersed is awesome.
Characters from Cartagra make a come-back in KnS and KnS 2, as a side-characters but still they played their part in the story. There is a bad end from KnS which is linked to Cartagra too.
But the most important thing is that what happened in KnS 2 is directly linked to the events of Cartagra.
I live in a desert so I don't think snow is all that likely, but once it gets cold here I'll go for it. That tends to be enough for me to appreciate the immersion, anyway. Shame it's fucking hot here most of the time.
Probably not me, unless I completely forgot it (which is also possible). But I'm sure there are others here who hate living in the desert so it could go either way. Someday I'll move to Iceland or something.
> Serious story-driven visual novel
Except this is not a story-driven visual novel but a cheep rip-off with shitty porn in between. I am really glad that MG customers are not stupid enough to pay for this crap.
One of the many reasons why Moogy feels really fake to me is that he only started using the term "chuuni" after the big KyoAni show aired even though it was a very well known concept in Japan long before that. He just seems like your average western anime fan who only follows what's popular but pretends to be knowledgeable despite that.
It depends on how bad sales actually are. They're bad enough to not get hard copies, but as long as they break even and make some profit they would still be viable. Of course, there's the possibility that with how Cartagra sold and how Kara no Shoujo 2 seems to be going, that Innocent Grey might not want to license out any more of their story titles to them. If that happens they might try partnering with JAST, but right now it seems really up in the air.
Fuck off with the rip-off thing.
If you spit on all the works that are inspired by something else, not a lot of things to read or watch will remain.
It's inspired by a popular mystery novel. So what ? It's still a very good title, the characters are interesting, Sugina Miki art is gorgeous and the investigation is well done for a visual novel.
I don't think I said he could? In fact, my post was heavily implying that he couldn't, because he only copies what becomes popular in the west. And it's a well known fact that he wasn't even the translator for DraKoi, which is literally his only "claim to fame."
85/100 and 401 people voted on EGS for KnS2.
81/100 with 854 people for KnS and 80/100 with 1049 people for Cartagra.
Innocent Grey seems to have a strong fan-base in Japan. Not kamige-tier but still really popular.
>Fuck off with the rip-off thing.
I challenge you to watch Mouryou no Hako yourself and see just how much is lifted. Entire characters and whole plot devices. It's not just "inspired". It's straight up plagiarism
He said that he translated Sharin no Kuni too but he's too ashamed to be credited because it was when his level of japanese was poor.
Truth is that he never translated a single thing of SnK and The n00b avenger was the real translator.
Chuuni, as a word to denote a genre, is almost a completely western concept. The expression 中二病 was in Japan forever, but it was used as a word to make fun of people with overactive imaginations. It was unavoidable that someone would use it jokingly when talking about stuff like Dies Irae, but you'd probably only get confused looks from most ppl if you asked them what belongs to 中二ゲー genre. Some might mention a few games they thought were chuuni (had overactive imaginations) but they'd still be curious why you think an adjective (like "awesome", or "weird") is a genre. ><
I've been living in Japan for almost a decade now, and it's these boards that I've heard this term used to actually denote a genre for the first time. Even as an adjective, the expression is not used that much in visual novel discussions, except in the context of Dies Irae and other Masada's games.
I don't know much about your Moogy, but if anything, your statement makes me think he was following Japanese media instead of English weeabos that ended up adapting chuuni to their own language in a perverted form.
TNA is a pretty good translator anyway. I think he's working for JAST right now? And what's Moogy working for? Nothing. He's already killed any potential credibility he might have had by failing with Trample on Schatten. Probably because he didn't expect to land the job and realized his only friend Google-san wasn't going to cut it. I doubt anyone in the industry will ever hire him again.
I remember when somebody in these threads said LoTR was chuuni. I thought it just meant some little shit acting like know-it-alls not that if a story had something exciting going on that it was chuuni.
While its not that common, you can find "chuunige" used as both insult and ironically on pink and matome blogs, so you should familiarize yourself with eroge otaku culture first, before trying to teach others.
Of course, they use different kanji for "chuu". Leaving it as homework to you to find out which one.
I don't know why Moogy shit on SnK translation because i thought it was quite good. Not the best but still it was nicely done.
TNA seems to know japanese at least, unlike Moogy the fatty.
中二病 literally means that you have an imagination of a 2nd grade middle school student. I sometimes still have trouble to understanding what westerners mean by the expression as it seems they throw it at everything that has action or fantasy elements in it.
It's also very rarely used in positive light in Japan; it basically means that the thing is so over the top it's dumb, and I wouldn't say that LoTR is that.
Maybe he got in a fight with TNA and that was his attempt to "win" it, by pretending it was a bad translation (as if he'd even know). Lots of pointless drama on the scene, it'd make sense. He's just like Herkz, he goes out there and stirs up shit because he has literally nothing better to do in his life.
Well, blimey, it seems people did start using 厨二ゲー somewhat recently (though Dies Irae stuff still comes up on the top). Maybe I'm too old to keep with the fads of the young'uns, but I'm pretty sure the term is still way more "mainstream" in the west than in Japan. At least, I don't think I've ever seen anyone use it in pre-Dies Irae days when I still used to actively check the JP boards.
sanahtlig is one of the biggest fucking retards on Fuwanovel, mang. He genuinely believes he has made a difference in the VN community and acts snyde and arrogant about it. His delusion is delicious.
>It's also very rarely used in positive light in Japan; it basically means that the thing is so over the top it's dumb
Is it not used exactly the same way here?
I would have thought the IG titles would be right up the "the medium can be so much more" faggots alley. Maybe they really do just want all ages titles with happy endings. And for what it's worth Doddler, I usually buy the last week of preorder. Hopefully others are similar!
>"the medium can be so much more" faggots
You realize that considering the fact that Sakura and Nekopara are the things that actually do well, the people you use as a boogeyman are a minority anyway. The majority want nukige and all ages titles that pose as nukige. Which is depressing because real deal games are what I want, but apparently I'm a faggot for liking Innocent Grey, so fuck you.
So it turns out that one of the Muv Luv kickstarter stretch rewards was to port it to the Vita, with the caveat that it might not be able to be the English version.
Age just announced that they're releasing Muv Luv on the Vita.
So... uh... they're asking for money to do something that's already been done, by someone else, which they're going to resell.
Based on responses to Doddler's twitter comments, it looks like people were just holding out for a hard copy. Now that Cartagra is confirmed for NOT getting one, maybe sales for it will pick up.
MG might want to reconsider their hardcopy policy, since this problem could keep happening. People want a hard copy and don't want to buy the game twice, so they hold off for a hard copy, but due to them holding off, it doesn't sell enough to get a hardcopy. Of course, if a game needs people to double dip to be successful, then that's another issue entirely. Hardcopy-only buyers are really getting shafted though.
The whole Kickstarter is a fucking sham that's only happened because Sekai Project told them they could get away with it and is even getting a piece of the action. What the fuck did you expect?
The problem is we can't seem to get these retards to stop throwing money at these pointless Kickstarters. That's the only way their bullshit will stop, but until then they're going to keep milking it.
>I liked to use tbh for convenience every so often and then somehow it became a meme.
I don't get why people are butthurt over the use of tbh. It's beyond retarded to act like it's a meme when it's a contraction of a phrase that's used on a regular basis in actual conversation.
I'm not really sure they can reconsider it.. they either have the numbers they need for hard copies to sell or they lose money on unsold copies. They've quite a lot of experience by now so I doubt the people who only buy hard copies aren't factored into the numbers.
Because people HAVE started using it as a meme on this site. They keep pushing this "smh tbh fam" because they don't have an original thought in their heads. On its own tbh is still fine I guess but with the posts it's attached to on 4chan you really get the impression they're just using it for "teh epik troles." Only 4chan would manage to ruin a convenient abbreviation because only they know how to beat a dead horse until it becomes mush, like how you now have people unironically using "lel" because Reddit used it for a couple months.
They can sell 1,000-several thousand hard copies depending on the title in question. Wholesale and conventions can move alot of hard copies. Boob Wars was one game that sold similarly for both its digital and hard copy version.
I wonder if it's possible for them to work with a company that would be willing to have smaller print runs of certain titles. Even some of the OELVNs on kickstarter offer physical copies as a reward, so it's not impossible.
That's quite possible but it depends on exactly how much of the total cost the printers make up. I assume there a quite a few extra costs for physical . You'd need to design the case art at a minimum, it'll probably have a manual (I guess you might be able to reuse a digital one if it exists), might have art on the disk itself, you'll probably need some QA for sample disks after they come back to make sure the printers haven't fucked up. LE packages must be a nightmare with having to design/source all the extras. Could be they'd need to design a lot of the packaging too?
Assuming the printers do package everything up for you, you're still got distribution and storage. At MG's scale I'd assume every hardcopy is sent out manually. Perhaps someone here has some experience making with physical edition or something who can do more than guess like me.
Looks like /jp/ isn't the only place trying to convince MG to create Steam versions of the KnS games. That, or Herkz has been reading the thread.
You mean like 6 hours after the kickstarter passed 600k a week and a half ago? I'm pretty sure there was a lot of Japanese putting in money for the Vita version and their main programmer was doing some work on it before it made the goal.
I'm surprised how fast it's coming out but ultimately porting a game that was designed to run on a PII with 256MB of RAM from PS3 to Vita is pretty trivial. Plus it's age so it will be delayed at least two months.
Yeah, it's a brillant idea to puting a game in Steam where a minor had a relationship with an a adult, get kidnaped, butchered, appear pregnant in the sequel (raped or by the protagonist) and found dead in the end. Cutting the sex scenes can't salvage this.
But a emancipated minor pregnant from a relationship with the protagonist or raped by the abductor yes. This is to risky for Steam and they can't rewrite this without changing the plot.
KnS got reviewed by kotaku and recommended which brought in enough traffic to take down mangagamer's site
Cartagra got reviewed by no one.
KnS2 will get reviewed by no one.
That's the difference.
Personally I find 18+ story VNs to be terrible. You lose track of the story when you start fapping, and if you are not fapping the sex in the story is meaningless.
As I see it there are 3 good ways to make a VN.
- Just porn, and very short sections between. (18+)
- No porn, and an interesting story. (all ages)
- Massive nudity and a story. (14+)
It is the bottom one I wish the 18+ story VNs had gone for instead. Enjoyable nude scenes sprinkled over a story without distracting you from reading.
>they released a free patch that reverted the changes
Please stop trying to promote this line of reasoning. As already explained in previous threads, that line of thought shows that you lack understanding of how the current market is.
>the sex in the story is meaningless
Not true for all games. Subahibi being an obvious example, but there are also plenty of games where sex plays a role in character development, like Maruto's works or Sakurai's.
There are also other things besides sex that can bump a game into 18+ territory. Violence, drugs, etc. See Chaos;Head/Child which are 18+ with no sex scenes. But if you're releasing an 18+ game on PC anyway, you might as well just have porn and get the extra sales.
Uhh, there's lots and lots of story VNs that only have 1-3 H scenes per route and often at the end. And when you're talking a 20-50 hour story VN, the idea that a few sex scenes make you unable to follow the plot seems absurd. You can also, you know, not fap.
Personally I like stuff being 18+ by default since it means there's very very few topics that are taboo enough not to touch. The real world is 18+, no reason for adult media not to be either.
The Japanese companies tend to view all-ages and adult versions as separate products, so getting them to give the adult version for free when it's usually considered the premium version might not be possible in all cases. Right now with MG you buy the premium adult version and they give you a free Stream key for the all-ages version.
What is up with their Steam rep? He seems to give them the worst advice and not inform them of sales they may be eligible for. Then again, Steam being inconsistent Is nothing new.
Herkz reads and posts here all the time, he can't resist when this place shit talks him so hard.
What I don't get is why Doddler is acting like it's a novel concept. Really, fucker, you haven't thought of this before? Obviously you should be doing it for the first game too. You had no problem releasing all those other all ages versions, why would making one for KnS be any different?
Question. Why DID KnS get reviewed by Kotaku? How exactly did it get attention? And why are they unable to get the same attention for KnS2? I mean, it's still a good, serious game, isn't it?
>You had no problem releasing all those other all ages versions, why would making one for KnS be any different?
So far Cho Dengeki Stryker has been the only game that has gotten an all-ages version created just for Steam. It had very few sex scenes to begin with, which felt tacked to boot, so it was likely very simple to create an all-ages version and not effect the story at all.
All of the other games already had existing all-ages versions, so MG didn't have to do anything, and it's not them "censoring" the game if that version already exists in Japan. Though honestly, as long as the 18+ version is still available I don't see a problem creating ero free versions of games that could work without it.
Kara no Shoujo would take a bit of effort to work it for a steam release. Some option paths, such as whether or not to have a sexual relationship with Toko is central to the outcome of the story, and you would have to make a bunch of modifications to CG. You'd also probably need to make additional script changes beyond simple fade to black or cutting ero scenes.
Shame he stopped caring about that because he got sucked into the hell that is translating Da Capo 3. So now the company is falling apart and he can't do anything about it because he needs to translate DC3.
Will it? If you bring your sperm in a can and throw at them, you will be just kicked out of con by security. I don't think it could be turned into felony even if some batshit insane feminazis jump on case.
He just has the wrong idea about how to go about it. You've got to be very careful about it and set things up so that you can pin the blame on someone else. Very discreetly spray your semen on Good Haro and Maria.
I've checked various state criminal codes, as I thought, if no injury happened and no contact with sexual organs, it will be simple battery in worst case, and its minor misdemeanor, with punishments like 1000$ fine.
Ironically getting weird is what makes them actually fit in with /jp/. When this thread is not weird it looks kind of out of place since /jp/ is always about talking about absolutely disgusting stuff.
If you've gotten to the point where you're storing jizz and spilling it on "people" accidentally, isn't that kind of missing the entire point of saying something like
At this point it's like the hover-hand of sexual assault
Well I don't know about the other person but I'd say the point is not sexual assault, it's just covering ladies with spunk.
What I like most about this whole conversation is imagining that if GH and Maria get wind of it they're going to be extremely paranoid at cons around people with mysterious containers.
No, I'm saying that whipping out a cocky line >>14218798
and then following up with that shit is like going "Heh, yeah, I can beat the shit out of that guy" and then later going "...if he's asleep and I've got a bat"
>What I like most about this whole conversation is imagining that if GH and Maria get wind of it they're going to be extremely paranoid at cons around people with mysterious containers.
Let's be realistic here anonymous, he'd probably lose his spaghetti at the door when he's asked what he's bringing in and end up drinking his own spunk while he mumbles "Just a coke".
I think Chaos;Head is 18+ because they think that stamp would help sales. There is nothing in that game that is worse than Battle Angel Alita, who are rated older teen 16+.
A few scenes at the end is the most acceptable version. But you could still have removed those scenes and gotten 99% of the value.
Another beef I also have is that as soon as someone attempts serious writing and 18+, the game will contain rape. Lazy writing 101.
>Let's be realistic here anonymous, he'd probably lose his spaghetti at the door when he's asked what he's bringing in and end up drinking his own spunk while he mumbles "Just a coke".
Envisioning this situation cracks me up too.
"A veteran NYPD sergeant accused of splashing semen on a civilian employee as she walked down a hallway at One Police Plaza has been criminally charged for the sick act, prosecutors announced Wednesday in Manhattan court."
Tell us what it's like in prison, okay?
I actually play VN games in my android phone that uses kirikiri engine using this method
What are some kirikiri engine games that was translated and not on that list? It's very outdated.
Sgt. Michael Iscenko, 54, is facing misdemeanor sex abuse charges in the attack, which took place in a freight elevator at 1 Police Plaza on Jan. 23.
See, no felony charges, and he was offered plea bargain for 4 years of "group therapy".
Risking committing a crime just to toss some jizz on a 3d girl? There's nothing to gain. And also the possibility of getting arrested. Plus the effort to actually carry such a thing out.
Literally I can't see a reason unless you're one of those "for the lulz" tards.
I have no interest in doing it myself and I don't think I'm even remotely close to the cons MG goes to, but I wanted to see how people would react. So I suppose lulz were indeed a goal here.
Starless was just repetitive all around. The scenes were so long that I found myself just clicking through them after the first orgasm because nothing new was going to happen in them. Just needles in his balls or something.
The fact that you were with Marisa so much yet only fucked her once was stupid. In fact, you only really fucked Maria and brown haired girl more than once in a game with like 5 regular appearing girls.
It's ridiculous just how long this took to actually get sorted out. The legal system is such a load of horseshit.
Anyway, it would be funny if Doddler later got arrested for throwing his semen on Good Haro and Maria. Nobody would see it coming.
They already said (vaguely) what will happen if (when) the kickstarter fails during an interview.
>If the project doesn’t get funded, we’ll have to revisit the idea of releasing the game at a later date after talking to Rosemary House to try and come up with other plans to make that a possibility.
It's not. It's some guy from Beast's Lair.
But he's also been working on it for almost two years now and is less than 1/3 done. On a short game.
So there's an excellent chance Baldr Sky will be out before he finishes.
So, I've heard SP is making original totally-not-ELVN OELVN by "writing it in japanese" and then immediately translating it back into English, without even releasing said japanese version.
This company is sure amazing in certain ways.
> Mangagamer is doing KnS 2 AND a liar-soft VN.
> Neither are in development hell or ever have been.
> JAST on the other hand struggles to have less than 3-4 'release dates' before actually releasing anything.
Holy shit you can have my money.
And SP just piles licenses without even slightest intent to work on them yet its best vn localizing company according to r/vn.
MG are very dumb with their disdain for KS. KS is not only free money, but also publicity and loyalty of those who pledged. I've seen it over and over, whenever people pledge to KS, they become very defencive about their investment target and act pretty much like religious sect (Star Citizen is full-blown sect at this point). Wouldn't hurt to use this effect 2-3 times to expand loyal customer base.
Someone with a Japanese PSN account, please share a .pkg link of that demo. I need it for research purposes.
