This thread is for the discussion of untranslated Japanese visual novels.
What are you playing? What are you looking forward to? What have you finished? You know the drill.
Spoiler? Are you mentally retarded? http://baseson.nexton-net.jp/sinkoi-eiyuutan/go/index.html Check the motherfucking cgs or the story part. I guess even the name of the game is spoiler for you.
I honestly have no idea what 吸血姫のリブラ is going on about anymore nor any idea why they are fighting each other, literally every problem that has been brought up can be solved instantly by the protagonist just accepting he is a progenitor vampire. What a fucking mess this turned out to be
I just finished Koikake.
To be fair, one of the major point of the story is about the MC writing a romance novel. After the whole debacle with Sena's band and after she read the novel, she really should have come back to MC. I don't care if they add some drama, but the current actual route just doesn't fit with the rest of the story. It's not like I hate sad endings, but in this case it makes the whole game looks meaningless. It seems that the writer just want to frustate the readers with no good reasons.
Pic related most likely didn't happen, but let me be in denial and believe that it does happen.
I'm actually okay with this, but if the writer is really doing it to spite fans, or to stroke some ballsy writer ego (according to his 一言), then I can't support it.
Is it a true end or just an individual after story?
if it's real life, yeah I agree with you, but forcefully ending the game in a bad note that only makes fans frustrated is not cool
it is the true end, you need to clear all 4 routes to unlock it. that's why I'm quite annoyed
Does it need to be? It works perfectly fine for many game engines (kirikiri namely which is just about the most common). There are some VNs it didn't work on but I just ignored those and played them in the future when I didn't need a texthooker anymore.
if I recall correctly, in majokoi MC dumps the main heroine, while in koikake the main heroine dumps MC
I didn't like the true ending for majikoi either because the MC is an arrogant prick, but I thought the writer might redeem himself since his previous works are some of my favorites. I probably won't read anything by him anymore after this disaster
fanboying eroge writer is retarded. many of the better writers have gone downhill this year. For example, bokusen was quite bad despite the hype. Maruto's and Maeda's latest anime are also bad.
Anyone read オズの国の歩き方 here?
If I had to describe it in one adjective I'd have to say It's very maerchen.
It's mobile only but the writing is really well done, I feel like a child reading a book for the first time since it's in Japanes. They'll use simple writing but here and there, then they'll throw in some descriptive sentences for flair.
I love the feeling of mystery sorrounding the world, especially when the game starts up saying "project nightmare" with a chibi scarecrow running with a razorblade on a grassy sunny backdrop. Even though the setting is all too familiar with most of us it feels like when you watched OZ for the first time, confusion and curiosity mixed to perfection.
I believe that's just my hand holding the phone, considering the angle I took the photo at.
in majokoi MC dumps the main heroine
What? No, she
is demented and he has to leave her because she doesn't even know who he is, but he never quite gives up on her, even after losing his memory and stuff.
Seriously he was extremely devoted to Alice.
I know the original is translated, but I'm finally playing utawarerumono so I can play itsuwari no kamen. I guess it's kind of old, but what does /jp/ think about the series in general?
The maximum opacity of this textbox still has 50% of the text on a completely transparent background. Why is this allowed?
Regretting every minute of this route
Hmm, you're almost at the end. Made it farther than me.
And the route doesn't even contain anything of note, yeah it has the reveal about
Makoto and Kei, but beyond that even Rina's parts in Abend tell you more about Nakamura family etc.
One time when I was in college I was playing L no Kisetsu 2 and I was really into it so since I was playing it on PSP I just took it to class with me and played for a while before class started. That's the only time I've ever played a VN in public.
seriously how would you guys deal with this
Personally I make sure to sit at the front of the lecture hall, wear my gaming headset and boot up Dies Irae so that everyone is aware of my superior nihongo ability and doesn't dare interrupt me.
I'd just skip through the lewd scene, maybe make a save first. To be honest I don't care if someone sees, it's not like porn is reviled or anything, and if I'm playing VNs in public I've already given up trying to lie about myself.
Is dies irae really hard?
I mean the problems i can see with most literature in general is just lack of vocab, the inability to envision and understand certain language used by the author (like the author might write thing a certain way that might be a bit different from the norm and it might be hard for somebody to properly grasp it) and just cultural stuff really.
The hard parts of Dies Irae are the manhyougana sections (quoting ancient literature) and the 言い方 of some characters. From my experience the author also uses grammar concepts (esp kobun) rarely found in other VNs. The vocabulary level is above average. The VN has a total of 2752 kanji which is above average. I think for an 18 year old Japanese native it would not pose a significant challenge (in terms of the language itself, not comprehending the author's deeper truths or what have you), but for a foreigner learning the language, it is exceptionally difficult and among the harder modern media one could read.
> I think for an 18 year old Japanese native it would not pose a significant challenge
Obligatory reminder about average level of kanji knowledge among japs: https://twitter.com/ailes_1997/status/443184477771030529
Oh geez, I could read most of those and I haven't been studying long at all, is that like a joke or something? Or are those actually 13 year olds? I had a grin like pic related when I read most of them easily.
Well, anyway. I was mainly covering my bases there, 18 year olds have graduated high school and have covered koten, history, etc etc which I would think would give them more than enough vocabulary and experience to read something like Dies Irae without much fanfare or struggling or anything. I struggle to think an 18 year old wouldn't know those words though
I realized after posting that my words could be misconstrued and that's my bad. Dies Irae is exceptionally hard in that compared to slice of life stuff, normal novels, etc, it's a harder. It's in the top whatever-percent. But it's not extreme or anything, it just happens to be in the top percentage, simply because most things don't use that level of Japanese. Well, that's all I'll say on the matter because this is getting dangerously close to DJT talk.
They have like 99% literacy rate, yeah? I don't know if >>14305693 is a joke but if it's not then I don't know know if it's underestimating anything
literally just realized the point behind all the カササギ symbolism after the fact, I feel like a retard
Yeah, but most Japanese people study history, math, ancient literature, and science in high school, and additionally are exposed to a huge variety of topics through television, friends, mass-media, and pleasure reading, which is no doubt more comprehensive than just porn games.
The Japanese tweet really doesn't have hard words, maybe a comparison would be "arduous", "morose", etc, words that are noticeably uncommon but at the same time words you would expect someone to know.
I like how people are shitting on this route just because it wasn't written by Sca-ji. Who the fuck reads a game where the main theme is art and then complains about art info dumps. Do you not remember those boring ass dumps in Subarashiki Hibi?
I can't tell if Aozora Stripe is actually a pretty good game, or if I'm just enraptured by the art. Either way I'm enjoying it. Will play Erect and perhaps Amakano sooner than planned due to them having this artist.
You and me both.
Kazane + that character design basically hits all the right notes for me.
It'll probably be garbage but I've suffered through worse titles solely because she's been in them.
I'm playing all of their games, hoping they'd make something as good as 涼風のメルト or Magus Tale again. Actually Justy×Nasty was pretty fun and good as well, but all others are mediocre at best.
This entire route is fucking hilarious and this scene just takes the cake. Never knew angry Riri could be this adorable
Just finished Sakura no Uta, not sure what to make of the ending. Still think Olympia was the best chapter. Just very refreshing in a game that otherwise just drowns itself in artsy fartsiness.
Well, the art is mostly good.
>Olympia was the best chapter
That's a pretty uncommon opinion.
It was by far the most traditional route, so I guess you like that stuff.
I thought Zypressen or VI was the best.
Epitaphs had some great moments, but in the end it was pretty much all flashbacks, which makes it hard for me to call it the best.
Yeah, to me it was a well-paced route with normal banter, a cute, lewd heroine and a dramatic finale. Just a normal, good eroge route.
All of that literature-quoting and the pseudo-philosophical exchanges were cute in a denpa game like Subahibi (fit the atmosphere and made it more crazy/unreal), but in a normal, down-to-earth story like this, it's just obnoxious and makes the characters feel like artificial mouthpieces for the author.
Olympia didn't have any of this, so it felt great.
IIRC most of the philosophy talk was at the end of V and VI and only Rin and Naoya really talked about that kind of stuff.
I thought it worked out pretty well in confirming their different approaches to art and explaining Naoya's life philosophy.
Makoto's route was also lacking any characters from the rest of the main cast during the entire route, having some of them show up for a gag or two would have at least made it more bearable.
No, There isn't a true route like hanasaki. There are 4 routes, and when you finish all of them you unlock " last episode" which is Sena After, happens a couple years later in Sena route, and those shit happens.
Damn that's a lot of changes. Thanks for the assist anon. Full voice will definitely help with reading too.
I thought that was nice. Changes of narrator are common in eroge, and SakuUta isn't a common eroge anyway. While I disliked Rina, I really liked Yuumi, I almost felt it was her route. It's just that it never got me interested into the Hakuki backstory so even though it's a good chapter, it felt a bit like a drag to me. I only got interested after
Epitaphs reveals the relation with Shizuku and Rin.
I pretty much didn't feel anything about Rina.
She was really boring, which is a shame because she was really great in the old Sakuuta trial.
Not sure why they downgraded her personality so much.
Her little sister Ruriwo is great though.
Is there a word for games that have many moege traits (e.g. light-hearted story, non-sexualized setting, lengthy SOL sections, moderately high production values) yet also have many nukige traits (e.g. girls fall for MC within seconds, no subtly to romance or relationships at all, girls behave in obviously nukige ways (e.g. sharing a bath with a dude you met a couple hours ago), high sexual content throughout, no attempt at anything resembling drama). I see people say, like, Primal Hearts turned into a nukige during the character routes, this phenomenon of "moege-nukige" is well recognized but is there a name for it?
What I usually use as a rough marker is how fast it descends into sex. I don't think the MC is going to bang the girls in Aozora until their respective routes, whereas I would think Koikuma (judging from the screenshots) goes into sex right in the beginning.
>goes into sex right in the beginning
Thats both true and false. It technically starts with h-scene, but after first few lines it jumps back several days and goes on for a while with no h-scenes.
Then again, that first scene is only handjob, and second scene is paizuri. There's no penetration sex for a long time.
Let's say it's 50:50. It doesn't have all the ichaicha to be fully considered a moege, and while the ero-scenes are hot as hell, it doesn't have the amount for it to be fully considered a nukige.
I see, then this is definitely the "sorta moege sorta nukige" kind of game I'm talking about. It could really use a name but then again, as they say, all meaningful divisions are arbitrary.
Both nukige and moege are rather vague descriptors in the first place, as the former refers to anything which puts the porn before anything else and the latter refers to basically anything light-hearted. Hell, moege can barely even be considered a genre of its own.
I'd say anything where the sex is the main thing and the game doesn't even pretend there is more to it is a nukige, while everything else is just a game with a lot of sex.
It takes talent to be worse than Itaru but she succeeded. Just tilt your head and see how fucked up those thighs are.
The only decent CGs from Inugami are the ones with Yuumi in them. It's not really an exception when most of her output is total shit. The exceptions would be the CGs that aren't shit from her.
I even liked her art in Supreme Candy which makes is so much more disappointing.
She has a couple of scenes where she is teasing Naoya, ok whatever? And her voice is just fucking baffling, you can almost hear the strain on the vocal chords of this middle aged woman doing a high-pitched loli voice.
>How did they fuck it up?
Still no Bitch route. Blunder of the century Marmalade. I will never stop being mad etc.
In all seriousness though, Usagi's route is a bit of a let down because it's basically mostly buildup and then drama, with little ichaicha.
But she has the most after stories of any of the heroines so I'm hoping my opinion will change after going through those once my dick recovers.
The other two routes I've started on are more like the ones from the first though.
Why does ever girl becomes a slut in her route? (Before her route even, in this case.)
I'm playing it now and well she doesn't seem like it, she kinda seems like a cool headed yet at time clumsy girl she didn't even flinch at MC's art club advert thing (paint a painting of love or something) I wondered if she even had feelings for him
I fapped to some eroge download stuff, in particular kangoku senkan, but never really thought about VNs as a thing to actually read and get int until Fate/Zero came out, I wanted to watch it (the medieval knight / apparent darkness appealed to me), but I learned I had to read F/SN first, so I did, and now here I am.
How long did it take you guys to be able read fluently?
btw I'm not looking to learn japanese or anything but how long it took you guys.
As for me I can read most stuff but might need a text hooker for some harder texts.
I mentioned I didn't want to learn ways to learn jap or anything just how long it took people to be able to read VNs fluently, I thought it was kinda related as you read the eroge unless you just spam CTRL.
I was just curious as to how long you guys needed until you didn't need text hookers and stuff.
I remember trying this stuff in high school after finding images and thinking the girls were cute or something, downloaded I think hoshizora kakare and just held CTRL, don't now how but i understood some bits.
Maybe i tried it again with a text hooker?
Still yeah from there Dracuriot and stuff.
I stumbled onto Hongfire one day while looking for something to stroke my penis to and decided to download some of those wacky Japanese Porn games.
It was F/SN which had just been recently translated at the time.
3 days later my life would never be the same again.
Probably because most moege suddenly have everyone who isn't the heroine and central to any drama suddenly disappear cutting out most of what was entertaining in the common route.
星空へ架かる橋? Kind of funny I just finished Hina's route last week.
>Normies use eroge CG as a wallpaper or something not knowing its from an eroge.
I remember trying to find the source of a suigetsu wallpaper I saw here and that led me to hongfire where I ending up downloading the game and just ctrl'ing through it while looking at the tachie and cgs.
I did the same exact thing for a number of eroge before I actually started to learn the language.
How much do you guys skip in moege? I pretty much always feel tempted to skip through slow parts of the common route and am wondering if people actually regularly do that.
Three years into learning Japanese I stumbled upon the game_cg tag on Danbooru.
Allowed me to skip the shitty phase where you either have to look up every word you read or become a Fuwanovel bigshot that can "read" anything as long as he's using machine TL for vocabulary.
I downloaded Divi-dead back in 2003 and played it just thinking it was a normal game with naked women in it. It wasn't until I played bible black in 2006 that I did some research on what I was playing and went on to playing other translated games. Started to learn Japanese when I ran out of translated games
>How much do you guys skip in moege?
If I ever find myself skipping dialogue it means that I will most likely end up dropping the title entirely.
Not very often.
And when I do it's usually because there's a limit to how much teasing my penis can take before anything actually lewd starts happening.
Or it's a game where the common route is broken up into chapters focusing on a given heroine and I dislike one or more of them.
vndb for recording games I play and keeping up with new releases.
EGS for reviews, pov, and about nothing else because the webdesign is so shit.
omochikaeri for updates and impressions.
seiya for walkthroughs, didn't actually know they had anything else.
/r/visualnovels for comedy
maybe I should go to hongfire, not sure what they'd offer though.
I don't want to make you read my personal blog, but okay. Japanese is my university major (along with Economics, universities are also free where I live, so no need to lament not choosing STEM). So I studied from textbooks written by my native Japanese lecturers. I was getting them as printed copies per lesson, now they made it into an actual textbook.
I also did tons of self-study, mainly writing kanji. As for Japanese entertainment, I watched raw anime mostly. But nowadays VNs are the main thing.
Since it's my university major, I had to study Japanese from all sides - passive and active, with Japanese history, literature and culture on top, so I feel my progress was slower than most peoples' on 4chan, who just focus on passive reading ability.
>I wonder how someone would learn Japanese if not through VNs.
Are you kidding? The vast majority of weebs who know Japanese learned for JRPGs and other Japanese video games. A small minority learned for anime/manga (most people into anime tend to be more neurotypical and less obsessive), while an even smaller minority learn for VNs.
Never really liked anime, but the thought of porn games as so silly for me that I had to try one. 2 years later I started learning nip.
The trial for 見上げてごらん、夜空の星を is getting pretty good reviews on EGS. Anyone tried it?
Woah, what? Me too, I thought no one else had. I found it in a rompack of GBA games and just played through it. I kept getting bad ends though because apparently I'm autistic and the game is fast-paced but it was kind of fun. Low resolution sucked though.
Jesus Christ, how horrifying.
I remember back when I would just read about anything I read that. And for all that I loved Love Hina, it being the second manga I read front to back, I still found it to be a snorefest of a game.
>I still found it to be a snorefest of a game.
I got a lot of early-game bad ends so I didn't play it to the end. Was it really long? I figured if I didn't lose and restart each time I'd beat it in a couple hours.
I watched the godawful anime (It was the gateway series for me btw) because the game assumed you knew the source material and didn't bother explaining some things
I also remember having a conversation with my friend who got the game for me about how Narusegawa is the best girl
No, it wasn't long.
It was just extremely boring. I truly loved the characters back then but the game was so bland it might as well just have been a fanfiction.net entry.
I still finished it all since it was short, I was just extremely dissapointed.
Well, it was more like telling people to stop since he isn't at fault.
Which is weird because I haven't seen people shitting on him, everyone's shitting on Nijima.
I dont really believe that anyone actually would blame the illustrator. I think he just wanted to join the shitstorm, also what the fuck is "他人のネガティヴな感想を耳にしたことでやらないという人が出てくるのはスタッフの一員としてやはり悲しいことです" Who would spend their money on something which got lots of negative reviews, just for trying?
just finished playing Chaos;Child so resuming my play of Kazoku Keikaku Re:Tsunagu Ito and I'm still enjoying it a lot. The characters are very well written so far.
>shit on the original in a lot of way,
Oh really? It's quite nice so far... but you picked up my curiosity and might consider playing the original game too now.
It is voiced? I really like the original chara design also.
