I am confident in my jap reading skills but not my production, and I like you guys. It's just that I hate how atrocious the translation scene is, full of machine translation with some cleaning and everyone still reading them.
Does it really matter as long as they're still enjoying them? Sure, you can get mad if you see someone complain about bad writing, as I do when I see that happen with Fate/stay night, but generally people don't complain. Aside from about Fate/stay night, for some reason. Because in the end, most people even enjoy stuff like Sakura Beach.
Steam users are cheapskates, so I expected the non-voiced $20 version to sell better. dovac must've figured that without kickstarter and with how Kaijitsu sold that giving a cheaper option was the only way to increase sales.
I was thinking the same thing. It's a clever scheme to appeal to the Steam crowd that only wants to buy stuff if it's cheap, since a lot of people have been okay with playing those Sakura games without voice acting. This wouldn't be the worst idea for MangaGamer to try with some of their more expensive games, but they're too cool to do something so scummy, I guess.
Honestly, if the full VN were that price, it would be a pretty reasonable price for the game. It's not worth the $40 pricetag.
Steam users are complaining about what the voice patch costs, so the decision has pissed off some people.
Many Steam users are used to voiceless oelvns and like lets players narrating the entire game, so most likely don't mind another voiceless game, since it's half the price of the voiced version.
did mub run yurofront get translated? I've seen people posting screencaps with english text. it was probably translated by someone who can't actually read moon so I don't know why I bothered getting excited.
If it was released by Alternative Project or Alternative Translations or whatever the fuck they call themselves, then yes. One of their guys was caught copy pasting out of Google Translate, somehow none of them noticed, and upon this being pointed out, they all rushed to defend him.
how did sekai manage to pick up people even worse than dovac to handle public-facing matters?
Well, considering the people in the company are incompetent, it figures that they wouldn't know what a competent employee looks like and would hire even more incompetent ones.
I also don't understand how someone who would use an avatar of a "gangsta" Mario would even have an interest in this line of work.
What's up with JAST?
Everything is fully translated or not even begun translating.
Are they going to release 5 things at once in a package deal or what.
What are their translators working on right now then since apparently Sweet Home is the only thing below 100% and above 0%
People are only allowed the stream the first chapter of G-Senjou.
I still can't believe with the launch discount that the voiceless version of G-Senjou is only $14. It might be bad for longer vns if people start expecting this price for full-length vns, especially at launch, though.
Its a shame that people who want to localize visual novels suck at running businesses to the point where their audience hates them.
When I saw the price, I was also quite surprised. The release is usually a time of high sales, yet they decide to release it very very cheap, butchering their own profits. People who wanted to buy it on release wouldve payed the full 20/40. What they shouldve done was put it on sale for a while after clannad came out, a time where people wouldve have finished G Senjou for full price and have spread good news and making it more well known.
However, regarding price expectations some normal RPGs sell for like 40 normal price and others sell for 60 normal price. When longer VNs come out for higher, people will expect it to be longer / better as well.
When it comes to streaming, many Japanese devs are against it. MOONSTONE (likely due to Evangile's success) and some of MG's other partners are okay with it, but that doesn't mean that all of their games are allowed to be completely streamed.
Other games published by Sekai Project are allowed to be streamed, but games like Grisaia and G-Senjou aren't, because the devs don't want them to be.
And it's always after a round or two of SP fucking shit up and pissing everyone off. Every single time, it's
>Do something shitty
>People get pissed off
>SP tells them to fuck off, starts banning, etc
>Even more people get pissed off from their reaction
>Oh, we mean it was the devs who told us we have to do it. We're totally on your side and have no choice.
I don't even know why people want to stream themselves fucking reading.
Even moreso, I don't know who would even want to watch someone fucking reading
How do you
fap to Hwhile streaming?
Sekai Project is probably obliged to do this, because of Akabei2Soft's tyranny.
Many VNs, when you open them, tell you not to stream them or upload gameplay videos on the screen that you never read.
Pinned post? What pinned post? There's no cropping issues, pinned posts about it or any complainers, anon. Sekai Project was always in was with Ostasia.
They unpinned the post.
Did you mean to make a 1984 reference but you fucked up the sentence somehow? Which, even if it's possibly unintentional, is actually good because it adds layers to the joke since that's how a Sekai Project translation would look.
It would be nice if the Aokana group released a partial patch of what they have so far so that when the anime airs in winter next year, we can all not be secondaries and shitpost on /a/ about how superior primaries are.
I'm going to be too interested to not watch it, but I also don't want to watch an adaptation that will probably be worse than the source and ruin my impression of it.
Same with Kouya.
Being an EOP sucks.
>It's consistent, I'll give them that.
Oh, they're very consistent. Just like how they consistently need kickstarters to translate shit that's already been translated for years. Or like how they're consistently fucking up these translations, somehow. Or consistently being greedy and baiting backers with exclusive merch instead of doing small, limited releases for all the fans who want some.
Yes, they're very consistent.
I'm not going to watch it because the patch is already coming along pretty well and VN adaptations butcher the material so often that it perplexes me that they keep trying to do them when other types of adaptations generally turn out much better. I don't have to worry about my impression being ruined because I know how bad of a representation these anime are so I don't let them change my perceptions.
Why did they turn her into a big boobed slut with bad art?
Interestingly enough, her breast size factors quite a bit to the story, or at least to a lot of funny conversations. I do like her better drawn with sensible size breasts myself, too, though.
That doesn't excuse them from being out of proportion and badly drawn, though. I'm aware that the original artist is no longer with Makura so they probably couldn't use the CGs he did, but they could have gotten Kagome or someone else to do Rin's and Shizuku's CGs. There's so much sameface it hurts to even look at.
Herkz's editing is literally nothing. If the rest of the patch existed there'd be no reason for it not to be released by now. As it is, he's just pretending the work is in his hands so that they have an excuse to never release anything else.
on Aug 9 he edited the page of references on the subahibi wiki
I just found this right now. I was curious about the subahibi page of tlwiki and saw the references page and felt like seeing what it had in store. At the bottom was edited aug 9. Checked the revision history and the last one to edit it was Herkz.
The only explanation for this is that he's reading/editing it right now and came across an unlisted reference and added it.
That's around 25 days the second pass of editing was supposed to start.
Looking at his contributions he also edited the walkthrough page.
The project probably is in herkz's hands right now. He just cant hold all the subahibis.
When you think about it, herkz is quite possibly one of the worst people ever to be editing Subahibi. If you look at his opinions of stuff on places like Twitter/Reddit and his ask.fm, very obvious social commentary just flies completely over his head. He is the poster boy for taking things at face value and one of the least insightful people I have seen on the internet. And this is the fucker editing Subahibi. I feel sorry for Scaji.
That's why he's taking so long
He's reading/watching everything that is reference in subahibi when its referenced, so he is able to edit it with absolute of the reference. In addition, he is studying humanities in other non-referenced works to improve his understanding of society and past societies. He's doing it for us. For free. When subahibi comes out, we'll be sorry to have ever doubted him.
SP can't possibly do Subahibi with the content it contains, even setting aside sex. It would be MG if anything.
That reminds me, that was another game where the project went silent and it seemed probable that it was because of negotiations for a patch. But it was a while ago now so I forget what game.
>would be MG if anything.
Just imagine what would happen id JAST got the license. SubaHibi release would at minimum be on 2017.
>that was another game where the project went silent and it seemed probable that it was because of negotiations for a patch. But it was a while ago now so I forget what game
Wasn't that a Moonstone game?
Yup, it is set in France. But in my travels I have seen a British girl do it too. So maybe part of Europe really likes kissing? I dunno.
> Ayakashibito fan patch helped make Propeller more popular in the west
Patch is out more than year now, and its still has only slightly more than 500 vote on vndb. Chuunishit is doomed in west.
While something as terrible as Shuffle has 2300 votes and FSN has 6500 votes.
>Popularity: ranked #101 with a score of 11.51
This is below huge batch of untranslated game, complete disaster when considering it commercial perspectives.
Ayakashibito is the biggest action visual novel after FSN as far as eroge are concerned in Japan (bigger than Dies Irae) so it's more likely a problem with the genre in general, not propeller why it's not particularly popular in the west.
In any case, you'd have to be really out of touch not to know of propeller and Higashide Yuuichirou if you weren't an EOP.
My guess for why the brand might not be as well known around here is that Moogy hasn't played their action titles, and it seems it's solely the games he praises that get hyped in this place (even though no one seems to want to admit it).
Literally nothing gets hyped in this place besides Muramasa, Baldr Sky and Dies Irae. It's not about Moogy, it's about the community picking three games and refusing to give a fuck about anything else.
Maybe you should've scrolled down, and taken a screenshot of proper propeller's games instead of coming off as a clueless twat? Jaeger and Pygmalion were made after Higashide left the company, and he WAS propeller (the brand is now as good as dead).
Ironically, he's working for Type-Moon now (Fate/Go).
Good, since dovac says that OreTsuba and White Album 2 are impossible.
>Baldr Sky duology
>Ever17 -the out of infinity-
>Oretachi ni Tsubasa wa Nai
>Maji de Watashi ni Koishinasai!
>Maji de Watashi ni Koishinasai! S
>White Album 2
dovac thinks that the Narcissu kickstarter honestly has a chance to hit 100k.
I know, but 100k$ is still within spread margin. Magical boy had few spikes in the middle of campaign once they started to promote it properly, so its not impossible for same thing happening with Narcissu + finishing rush.
Looking at AJ Tilley, you could release shit and just keep doing it over and over again. So long as there's porn, then people will keep donating. You're not technically doing anything wrong in that case.
I'm disappointed in tlwiki, the editor of the fan translation is openly endorsing sekai's practices in censorship and shitty behavior. I bet sekai threatened him legally to only talk about how great this is.
This is hilarious. The Sekai script is worse than the fan TL.
>While playing the 1st chapter I noticed that there are many places where there are "?!" instad of "Maou" or "Devil". I'm pretty certain that was not the case in the fan translation.
Why do people even ask companies to release shit that's already translated?
Ever17 was an official release too.
Does anybody know why baldr is on there? Is it just too long or are there legal complications?
Well doest matter heroduc is translating this as we speak.
I've noticed that the "big scene dudes" like Herkz and Moogy all do horrible things like supporting Sekai Project and using Reddit. None of them ever have good things to say about MangaGamer. It bugs me, it's like they're trying to force this shitty company to the forefront just because it's "their internet friends" and just completely ignoring the good company that has standards because they're not part of the big cult. Notice how for all their translation errors, Moogy, who is KNOWN for shitting all over Ixrec's translations, has NEVER ONCE criticized Sekai Project translations. It's like, when you have to push a company this hard to get people to accept them, maybe you should look at it and realize there's something wrong with it.
They think the companies are their friends and want to give them easy work. They also think it will let them support the creators of the games when really it's just the companies making money. People are all too eager to make visual novels accepted in the west and are very dumb about how they go about it.
And come to think of it Nekopara wasn't even a Sekai Project translation. They got their own translator and just released it through Sekai Project. So if that's the only one Moogy was criticizing then he's scared to criticize something they actually did, too. Hell, he could be criticizing them releasing all these fan translations, but NOPE, completely silent. Fuck this coward.
It's not about sekai project specifically. Moogys very well known so his opinions and voice spread well and have some influence. Talking shit on a company publicly would ruin his image completely as a person in the localization industry. Who would want to hire or work with someone who publicly bad mouths another company's work in a nonconstructive way? While he doesn't tweet about it, he probably goes on here to shitpost anonymously like the rest of us. I haven't even read anything from sekai to judge their work. He probably doesn't bother reading their random doujin Sakura-tier shit either since he only likes hipster shit
That makes all the times Sekai Project said that they were doing the translation, and that they would be bringing on extra translators to improve the quality a little silly then.
>Talking shit on a company publicly would ruin his image completely as a person in the localization industry.
As if it hasn't already been ruined by his complete failure to translate Trample on Schatten. Moogy has never and will never get another job in the industry. Yet he still fancies himself as some sort of VN bigshot.
Yes, it does. But you should have known better - Sekai Project has been known to lie about the work they're doing on a translation before. Like how they say they're going to do a bunch of editing and then they just release the fan translation as-is. Nekopara was one Japanese nerd who also did the Chinese translation, that's it. He probably didn't even get paid well for it.
> It was translated by a native Japanese translator hired by Neko Works
No, it wasn't, stop making up shit. It was SP's "translator", living in USA. There are even accounts of other SP translators meeting him in person and discussing how to butcher NekoPara more.
Oh yes, the soap opera guy who doesn't know Japanese and the guy who acts like he was the driving force of Narcissu when he wasn't even the one who translated it. Such great "translators" there. (They are not translators, idiot.)
I predicted last thread that he would repost this on Twitter with some condescending comment and dodge the accusations, and he did not disappoint. This fucking guy trying to victimize himself when he outright said he enjoys pissing people off. And "I basically never look at it" yet he can't help but post screencaps and keep bringing this thread up, because he craves the attention. Yet he won't actually respond to any of the accusations because he knows they're true, he just goes on some unrelated cocky tirade about racism. Yeah, because accusing a guy of being a bad editor makes you racist. I get it, he's trying to play the race card for sympathy. What a cunt.
Sekai Project just pinned a post to Sakura Beach 2's discussion forum. This is strange, since Sekai isn't their publisher any more. Unless the entire thing was a ruse to make it look like Sekai's not the one publishing those crappy games.
If I had to guess they probably haven't taken away Sekai Project's forum powers and Sekai Project is trying to ingratiate themselves with Winged Cloud to maybe try and get them back.
Also, wow, that game is already out? How the hell do they make these so fast? I know the story isn't much work, but surely making the art at least takes up a fair amount of time.
Either WC pinned the post, or Sekai did, which means they still have access to do so. The latter of which would be odd.
WC does't need Sekai any more. They have their own audience, so there's no reason for them to go back to Sekai. They'd just be giving Sekai free money if they did that.
I work on
EVNs.It's true that they are, but when you have everything else planned out, and assuming there's not a whole lot to do (Sakura Beach 2 for example), they can get done pretty quick. It probably didn't take more than a month, if that, for all the new assets to be made.
Here's what I think might be going on. Winged Cloud splitting from Sekai Project isn't widely known, so in one final display of bitterness they're linking the Patreon so that people can see WC unprofessionally whining about Sekai Project.
>Well, it's an issue so minor you can basically ignore it. It won't affect your reception of the game that much
People will defend literally anything these days. SP should chop VNs up and sell the common route as a base with individual routes as DLC, seems pretty clear they can do anything and people will keep sucking their dick and asking for more.
>sell the common route as a base with individual routes as DLC
You joke, but I've actually seen people complain that we /didn't/ do that because they didn't want to pay for routes featuring characters they weren't attracted to.
The original developer is Japanese. They didn't pick the fucking font. What is with Sekai Project blatantly lying to customers just to make excuses for not having to do things? This is so lazy, a good indie dev would be like "Alright, let me get on fixing that" but these guys are like "NOPE SHUT UP IT'S THE DEVELOPER'S FAULT FUCK YOU."
I'm pretty sure companies would end up worse off if people bought routes one by one. Can you honestly say you'd buy e.g. all five heroines in an average game? I wonder if the average player even completes one route, let alone be persuaded to make 2-4 more purchases .
Even if the lower prices attract more people to give it a go, I'm doubtful the lower average spend would offset them (especially in a small market like VNs). Much easier to sell the common + a chosen route as the product and the other routes as the replayability.
Patched up or not, money still goes only to WC.
To derail slightly, the font in KnS2 looks fucking awesome even when full screen. I wish everything had such crisp text (it helps the font was well chosen too). Considering reading is 95% of the product it's amazing how little attention most companies seem to pay to text rendering, Japanese devs included.
You ever notice that Herkz is so egotistical that when the board attacks HIM, it's suddenly the worst place ever? Nevermind that we praise people who deserve praise all the time, such as Doddler. But because we dared to criticize Herkz, we're suddenly the worst people on the internet. Get over it, Herkz. It's time to realize that when a lot of people have issues with your behavior, the problem is you, and not them.
Herkz calling it racism just shows another reason why he is not qualified to be an editor. HE DOES NOT KNOW THE DEFINITION OF ENGLISH WORDS. And this is the idiot editing Subahibi. I feel sorry for Scaji.
MangaGamer just updated their progress on a bunch of stuff. Tomorrow's VNTS will have the numbers so I don't need to post them I guess. But I think it's impressive how MangaGamer is just blasting through the translations of all their recent stuff, I've never seen them go as quickly as they have lately.
Also if you think this picture is cute and look up the source, you're gonna get mad. :)
Le respect est le lien de l amitié.
Which is why Herkz has no friends. All he ever does is sit around insulting people. I imagine he's one of those people who has never had a meaningful conversation with anyone he's talked to online, he just wakes up every day and gets ready for another round of insulting people on IRC and Twitter. I've known these types people personally, you can tell how empty they are because they don't know how to talk to someone normally. Just shit talking and memes.
I really want to play Tasogaredoki. Hopefully it'l actually get made and not dropped.
Such is the plight of Japanese-Nonreading-Friends.
Also I believe the English communities are now beyond possilibity of Grisaia-like success to anything. Yes, le Reddit and Fuwanovels can still muster up some support, but that seems mostly work for just playing for previously existing fan-translations.
Well, to project the future, 吸血鬼姫のリブラ Kickstarter will be very telling.
Because it will show whether or not even unknown VNs without hype can succeed on KS.
onomatope*'s VNs have consistently okayish scores on EGS, so it's not like they're making crap.
Don't link that shitty website to make a point. Your first line is right though. This is a test of what exactly can make it on Kickstarter. If a no-name, probably unnotable game can do it, anything can.
Sekai Project's Kickstarter updates are just advertisements for Narcissu Kickstarter.
"Here's an update, so in return, we expect you to back this next project"
Do they have no shame?
>estimated delivery: May 2015
>November 2015: Our new translator has finished reading episode.01 and episode.02 and will start working on episode.03 full time next week At this rate we're looking at an estimated 6 month turn around for getting the game out to backers.
Keep in mind too that this was done after the first chapter. It's been 18 months since the KS ended, they're on their third translator, and have only translated one chapter of a tiny doujin game.
I really hope it does happen. But yeah, you can tell when things are going wrong for Sekai because they start trying to advertise their stuff in the most nonsensical of places. Planetarian's sales are shit? Well damn, better tell the Sakura Spirit fans to buy it, they're totally the same audience.
I hope it does, because there's no way that an actual VN studio signed with them contingent on fucking crowdfunding, and SP has said that they'll translate just about everything they've Kickstarted anyway. It'd be nice if they had to shell out some of their own money instead of taking advantage of the ignorant fandom.
Now each of the WEE episodes can get a shitty translation done by a different person. Sekai Project quality right there. They might even get it done right within 2 years of the Kickstarter!
Hey, just wondering, who was it that made money off World End Economica initially? I bought Ch. 1 back when it first came out and I'm pretty sure Sekai Project's name wasn't on it at the time but it is now. They didn't get any of my money for that, right?
I love how G-Senjou didn't even make it into the popular new releases section. Practically every visual novel has no trouble getting there these days, but G-Senjou? Nowhere to be found. They really fucked up with this one.
WEE ep1 was originally localized by Spicy Tail themselves. They sold through MangaGamer initially (MG was just the storefront, not the localizer on the title). Then Sekai acquired the rights.
>WEE ep1 was originally localized by Spicy Tail themselves.
Well, kind of. It was localized by an MG translator at the time, but not under MG. Said translator was fired from MG and all his work thrown away, whereupon he went over to head up SP's 'license acquirement and translation' shit or whatever they called it.
I could see it working for certain games (the type with firm route splits and without much of an overarching plot, like many moege or even a lot of otome), but it'd be pretty awful for anything that actually has a story.
We don't have plans to do anything like that right now. We do have a couple of games where there are voices (or more full voicing) owned by another entity that could hypothetically get the DLC treatment in the future if those voices/additional voices could be acquired later (but that's always a big if)––that's really the only sort of scenario I see that sort of arrangement happening.
Personally I don't like the idea of hacking VNs up piecemeal (unless there's some sort of natural break-point), but it's entirely possible that market demands will force that sort of model more in the future. No one on steam wants to pay more than single-digit prices for anything after all.
>Whens Gahkthun coming out. Also, what are the next probable or expected Liarsoft titles? (if any)
Well, we got Yurirei. It's hard to say what would be next yet (even if I knew I couldn't tell you anyway).
Different person, but any particular games you would LIKE to get? I don't expect any guarantees that you'll actually get them or anything, just wondering what you'd personally be interested in that's feasible.
arunaru is literally translating faster than two people
what a madman
How is Sekai Project not getting absolutely crucified for straight up lying and claiming they're making a game that's already made. Their fans are obsessed, sure, but shouldn't the information be getting out there and destroying them?
>Their fans are obsessed, sure, but shouldn't the information be getting out there and destroying them?
Their fans are con-going retards and get all their VN on steam. They don't know shit; they only know what Sekai tells them. Making games that are already made and translating things that are already translated. Nothing new here. Sekai has been shaping up to be the crunchyroll of VN. Their fans are equally fuck.
No one cares enough about some Narcissu side stories to bother. No one is talking about it, and no one other than the 700 people who backed it (and probably back every one of their Kickstarters automatically) even pays attention to it.
Yeah, but a news site could report on it since they report on literally everything else SP does. Has not a single person sent this story to Kotaku or Polygon? They'd love an excuse to stir some shit up.
On the bright side he's apparently leaking money like a very leaky thing because of all these people he's throwing the cash at. This is not gonna last much longer. Another Kickstarter failure or two and he's donezo.
We hate SP because they are scam company, running kickstarters with goals 3-10 times bigger than actually needed, re-releasing already translated games, hiring apes with zero knowledge of japanese as "translators", persuading japan companies to stop doing ero and so on.
Mainstream and retard catering is irrelevant. I would even support ripping off retards and bringing their money to industry if it wouldn't mean that I'm getting fucked along.
How are you getting fucked if you just ignore Sekai altogether? It's not like they harm MG or JAST's output. The only argument you listed I can see would harm you would be
>persuading japan companies to stop doing ero
but do you really think Sekai has that kind of influence? Isn't the success all-ages VNs are getting on Steam (which isn't just Sekai Project) the more likely culprit?
1. SP kickstarters making 500k+$ are bigger influence than steam.
2. Re. "which isn't just SP": other companies like MG and JAST don't try to influence yet not released games and when licensing existing stuff their stance is "lets do both versions". On other hand, SP is trying to make developers make new all-ages or easily bucherable into all-ages games, and they are telling devs that ero doesn't matter for western market and nobody wants it here.
>but do you really think Sekai has that kind of influence? Isn't the success all-ages VNs are getting on Steam (which isn't just Sekai Project) the more likely culprit?
Although it's true that VNs sell more on Steam, by releasing both adult and all ages version you satisfy everyone and get even more sales. Imagine the following example: in 1000 people, 750 buy the all ages version and 250 only buy the adult version. Why wouldn't you release both versions and instead of getting 750 sales you get 1000 sales? There's literally nothing to lose. MG does exactly this and apparently SP and now FF (Fruitbat Factory - given their history, they'll only release a all ages version of LB) prefer to simply ignore those 250 (it's worth noting that SP either gives extremely low priority to the adult version or outright ignores it).
By only releasing a all ages version of a adult VN you're actively encouraging the japanese companies to censor their VNs without making a uncut version available. Not showing the japanese developer that there is interest on the adult version is the publisher fault (in case the publisher doesn't even try to get the adult version) and the consequences of this can be catastrophic for those of us who actually care for having sex (regardless of its meaning) on their VNs. This is what happens when people with no respect for the culture try to make things their way.
So he both owns a scam company raking in far more money than needed through all the kickstarters, yet at the same time almost bankrupt. Gee, it's almost as though people on here don't have a clue what they're talking about.
He wastes money on useless things. Like, he bought never-to-be-actually-created ship from Star Citizen for several thousand dollars. He spent hundreds of thousands dollars on various software licenses and development which ultimately turned out useless: certain CRM soft, kickstarter ripoff, translation soft and so on. He wasted tons of money on luxury office. He wasted tons of money on regular trips to Japan, accompanied by interpreter because he can't speak any japanese, he gifted tons of money to various jap developers hoping they would later let him license their games and so on and on.
Is this your first VNTS thread? Everything I've posted there was said by dovac himself on twitter/reddit/vndb and was reposted here. Do you also need proof that sun is yellow?
Spending thousands on star citizen ships:
Kickstarter ripoff they developed out of KS money and never used:
Gifting money to jap developers:
> My company spent over 4.5M JPY in assistance to various companies and creators in Japan in this year alone. Our loans have nothing attached to them so if they run away with the money I get to explain it to the board.
And on and on. Once again, this shit was posted here dozens of times, read archives if you are this new.
I am not new. I know there is some truth in your statements, but /jp/ exaggerates more and more each time things are posted, and occasionally /jp/ simply makes up things completely. In this case...
>ship from Star Citizen for several thousand dollars.
Where does the 'several thousand' come from? I do indeed recall that someone Sekai-related tweeted something about a really expensive ship, but I don't think it said they actually bought that ship for that much real-life money (and I'm not sure if it was dovac saying it; I know that some people involved in Sekai have well-paid full-time jobs outside of Sekai).
>He spent hundreds of thousands dollars on various software licenses and development
Did Sekai spend a lot of cash on it? It could very well have just been built in-house.
>certain CRM soft
They made their own, that much we know. Did they pay a lot for licenses for stuff they used before that? What did development of these things cost? We don't know.
>and so on.
>hundreds of thousands dollars
What else? Even if you fuck up tremendously and go for max expenditures, I doubt you'd reach such a sum for these three products (assuming you're not professionally producing it for resale).
>He wasted tons of money on luxury office.
They have a place they call their office, which we have exactly one picture of. We don't even know if it's a proper office, or if it's run out of someone's home. Assuming it's a 'luxury office' and he wasted 'tons of money' on it goes even further.
>He wasted tons of money on regular trips to Japan
Which is pretty normal if you're doing licensing. The CEO of the company I work for makes constant trips to the US. He just needs to be there for license negotiations.
>accompanied by interpreter because he can't speak any japanese
As in, a professional interpreter? Because those would be ridiculously expensive. I'm pretty sure he brings someone else from Sekai to interpret, otherwise negotiation costs would soon exceed the actual translation costs.
>he gifted tons of money to various jap developers hoping they would later let him license their games
One could argue loans are not gifts, but yeah, it gets pretty close to this. I don't mind them supporting developers.
Now for a particularly damning accusation:
>they developed out of KS money
What proof is there they did any of this out of KS money? When devs do unrelated shit out of KS money, you notice by them running out of money required to complete the project. Sekai does not seem to have run out of money for any KS project yet. What reason do you have to assume they did something as fraudulent as this? Remember they also get plenty of money from actual game sales.
I just posted links in post above. It was dovac, and it clearly says he owns EVERY ship in Star Citizen. Total cost here exceeds 10000$.
>It could very well have just been built in-house.
As if building kickstarter-like platform in-house now suddenly makes it cheap to do, huh. You should go check how much it costs to develop such large-scale e-commerce app from scratch.
>They made their own
Can't find that tweet series, but dovac once publicly grieved that insanely-overpriced solution he bought license for turned out completely useless and he was looking for other one to buy next. It certainly wasn't in-house or cheap.
>As in, a professional interpreter?
Yes, he mentioned he was hiring one.
>brings someone else from Sekai to interpret
Are you kidding? There's nobody on Sekai roster who can interpret japanese live. Their best is translating written text with dictionary.
> I don't mind them supporting developers.
Whether its good for industry or not, its very bad way to handle company funds, especially when company in such dire need of competent staff for all positions. Just having good project manager and good chief translator would improve quality and speed several times.
> you notice by them running out of money required to complete the project
And that's exactly why none of VN kickstarters shipped any physical rewards. He's stalling them by making up various excuses ("3rd translator ran away w/out doing any work and we too stupid no not notice it for months because why would we ever have weekly reviews and shared repository") while desperately trying to bring in fresh money via new kickstarters.
>What proof is there they did any of this out of KS money?
There's no other major money source. When he was running WEE kickstarter, he confessed on irc that he was taking many short-term loans to survive till kickstarter end, and he was deep in red. Obvious that kickstarter money went to repay loans and pay salary after that.
No reason to expect that his financial discipline improved since those times, and liabilities from WEE and other kickstarters are still there.
>he confessed on irc that he was taking many short-term loans to survive till kickstarter end, and he was deep in red
I know he once said Sekai is in the red. Which is very normal, MangaGamer was also in the red for years. Being in the red as a company and being in the red as a person are completely different things. I never heard anything about him taking short-term loans to survive; can you provide a source for this?
I'm not sure if it's possible for other people to do so. Theoretically there is an option to download your own tweets, but it never worked for me.
He says 'not enough resources'. Which can mean any number of things; most likely in this case it was 'not enough translators/editors/QCers'.
2014 Jul 03, #tlwiki:
dovac: TinFoil: too bad I'll be bankrupt in about 3 months
TinFoil: dovac: no income coming in? are you going to pull a startup pump and dump? :P
dovac: TinFoil: burn rate too high, blew though a year's funding during my last trip to Japan
dovac: but i'll be pivioting sooner or later
TinFoil: did you at least get a year's funding in future plans in return?
dovac: i have no idea
dovac: kickstarters tend to go overbudget
dovac: and late
dovac: so that is the biggest issue
TinFoil: sounds like a small business living life on the edge to me!
herkz: well apparently people on kickstarter will give him a lot of money
dovac: doesn't mean its all mine
herkz: same difference
herkz: you can afford to license bigger titles
dovac: we can revisit this tomorrow after 5pm
herkz: or even if they cost the same, pay translators a decent wage
dovac: i need to finish the fault demo
witchcapture: dovac, is your company VC funded or boostrapped?
dovac: no one else does though
dovac: witchcapture: bootstrapped
witchcapture: cool, well done
dovac: i've self funded it entirely
dovac: i only recent started to take loans from friends/family
dovac: to cover the shortfall for the next few months
dovac: why would VC fund this
dovac: the market isn't big enough to have 3 players imo
You might be misunderstanding. He might be talking about acquiring new licenses, establishing new business contacts, investing in future deals, and so on. What are you going to do if opportunity knocks on your door, let is pass?
Atom GRRL coming soon.
I think it's funny that Sekai keeps plugging the Narcissu kickstarter when just about all of the updates are about their current projects being delayed in some way.
>They need to be stopped at all costs.
If it's 'at all costs', wouldn't it be much easier and faster to just murder dovac and threaten that anybody that continues to be involved with Sekai will meet the same fate? I'm fairly sure that would make Sekai go out of business real fast.
>sending emails is not "at all costs".
It is in the age of the internet.
This is also why SJWs have it too easy nowadays. Back in the day, people actually had to protest march and had fire hoses sprayed at them and police brutality. You actually had to show conviction in what you believed in.
It's not just SJWs. The people here are no different. They're making themselves feel good by protesting against the evil Sekai Corp. They're making a change, the heroes! It also happens with other fanbases, video games are an example I know of. But it happens everywhere.
Humans are just made to fight for a common goal, and our culture only reinforces that need for unity. So when people can fight for a common goal with barely any effort, of course they'll jump on the opportunity.
Yeah, you really don't have a clue.
Everybody wastes money on useless things, he's allowed to spend money on things he enjoys there's no evidence he used KS money and he could have bought most of them back when he had money in his account, your software allegation is unsupported and most likely hyperbole, you have no proof he wasted money on a luxury office remembering a luxury office is different to having a luxurious item in his office, the money he spend in Japan were most likely business transactions and negotiations, and finally the money he 'gifted' to Japanese companies weren't 'gifts' but rather 'loans.'
You are pretty much the typical 4chan user, that is you have no clue. Pity, this used to be a rather decent place.
Remember when Gamergate was 'sticking it to the man' by doing nothing more than sending emails? Every week another email campaign. Fast forward many months later... nothing's changed. What a surprise.
dovac said the money he gave to the devs had no-strings attached and that they could even never repay him. Remember his comment about having to explain it to his board of directors if that happened?
>the money he spend in Japan were most likely business transactions and negotiations, and finally the money he 'gifted' to Japanese companies weren't 'gifts' but rather 'loans.'
Yes, taking the CEOs to the kyabakura and paying for moet and hookers... what a great investment
A loan in good-faith. Them not repaying him would be the same as a loan written off, but it was still a loan under a gentleman's agreement of repayment. It's more that he's too good-hearted than he's out to scam people.
But yeah, business is a cut-throat environment. He's probably learned a couple of lessons in what's been a turbulent couple of years. Remembering that the vast majority of small businesses close inside the first year or two, he's done fairly well.
Someone who doesn't know how business is done in Japan. Do everybody a favour and shove a dick in your ignorant mouth. Your continuous high-pitched, retarded whining is irritating.
A vn youtuber I watch who's friends with some evn devs said that dovac (at least used to) have verbal agreements on publishing their games. This could lead to problems down the road depending on how much the other party really took those verbal agreements seriously.
You're pretty retarded if you don't understand how running a scam company and raking in hundreds of thousands of dollars for personal investment will unlikely result in him being bankrupt inside of a year due to business expenditure.
Yeah, he's less professional but nicer. He seems to have entered the business world a little naive. /jp/ jumps down his throat because the board is populated by bitchy little attention-seeking cocksuckers. They demand people pay attention to them, and if they don't they chuck a fucking tantrum like a bunch of fucking kids.
>A loan in good-faith.
These are concepts that don't have a place in modern business transactions and for good reason. The honor people sought to protect is at an all-time low. And forget gratitude.
They probably happily took dovac's money and have no intention of licensing anything to him.
Lottery winners can blow millions of dollars in several years or less. If dovac is super bad at managing money, then it's super easy to burn through a few hundred thousand dollars.
Lottery winners who blow millions have some visible form of their stupidity. A new boat. A mansion. A harem. So why don't you show us where Dovac has blown his hundreds of thousands.
Just wondering, has Sekai Project ever actually revealed the identities of any of their translators? Or have any of them stepped forward to reveal themselves? I find it so weird that they say "the translator who did this is also doing this" without saying their name.
Also, do you think the "right now" implies that Narcissu will eventually not be free?
Star Citizen isn't out yet. The fortune he gave to Japanese devs is gone. I can't take a picture of the 5 star hotels he stays at, gourmet room service he orders, and first class plane tickets he buys on a regular basis.
A few thousand on Star Citizen, is that all you have to go with? Oh, that and an unbacked assertion about his Japanese loans?
Wining and dining is necessary in the Japanese business world. In other words, it's a business expense. Any knowledge of Japanese culture will tell you this. First class tickets are cheap. Where are the hundreds of thousands of dollars?
I think so far you've attributed to 10. Impressive.
An assumption, and a strawman. Basically because you're too retarded for anything else. Jam your mouth back on your Daddy's dick like a little bitch, you imbred, motherfucker. Jam it on there, because your father is probably sick of fucking the donkey in the barn that's your mother.
I think they just meant that it's available now, as opposed to TBA like so many of their projects are.
At the current average of $65 per backer, Narcissu still needs 400 more backers to succeed.
That would make sense. Not the first time Dovac's sucked at wording.
Well, I hope the company continues to fall apart, but in the meantime I look forward to pirating this Atom Grrl thing when it's out. Never knew how much I wanted to play a game set in my hometown.
Verbal agreements are still legally binding, just hard to enforce.
If either party has, for example, e-mails to prove certain things were agreed on verbally, then these can be enforced through legal action if necessary.
Children, please go back to >>>/b/.
Verbal agreements, even in email form likely won't have all the details worked out. How long is the partnership? If the dev decides to self-publish (Winged Cloud) does the former publisher not get a cent of money once the switch occurs?
>Pity, this used to be a rather decent place.
Anybody from MG want to comment on this?
Is he going to be left alone to do his own thing or will you guys try to get him to work with MG after one of your other propeller works are released?
>I'm not doing this project for anything other than my own benefit and experience with the language. As such, if I ever get to a point where I feel that negative criticism (as opposed to constructive criticism) or outright negativity is interfering with my ability to enjoy what I'm doing, then I may just abandon publicly releasing the project altogether. So my point is to just avoid being a jerk and everything'll be fine. I know people will inevitably complain and nitpick, but keep it limited to the normal places (you know what I'm talking about) and I'll have no issue. Basically, unless you have something meaningful to say, please don't say anything at all. I'd prefer having one appreciative soul enjoy my work than for 10,000 complainers to do the same.
Doesn't sound like someone to bother recruiting. Criticism=them holding back fanpatch.
>I'm still learning the language. Take that however you please. However, with that said, I feel that nothing of importance was lost in translation and the English reads perfectly fine. Do you have any trouble reading what I've typed so far? Good, then you won't have any trouble reading this VN. Perhaps if you're a 100% literal person or someone who doesn't like for things to be localized to the receiving audience (especially jokes), then you won't like this project.
Well, sounds like we're free to rip it apart on /jp/.
>5.) If I notice any mistakes, can I contact you about them?
>Yes! That's the whole point of me starting this. As long as you're not super condescending or acting as though I've done a grave sin by trying to make a VN accessible to people who, in all likelihood, would never have had any chance at all of reading it otherwise, then by all means! A lot of the jokes were completely lost on me, so I'd totally appreciate any help you can give me! Or just any pointers in general. You can reach me at sukimaTL@gmail.com.
Personally, I feel this is a good attitude to take. So can someone point out some basic mistakes in the translation so we know how bad it is?
>Personally, I feel this is a good attitude to take.
>No matter what kind of mistakes I make or how unqualified I am, you better be respectful to me.
Yeah, that's a great attitude.
Sounds like someone is scared of getting his feelings hurt when someone points out that editing Atlas output is a bad way to translate.
Missing jokes is a good indication that he hasn't spent enough time with the language to be qualified to say whether anything of importance was lost in translation.
>trying to make a VN accessible to people who, in all likelihood, would never have had any chance at all of reading it otherwise
He's using this shit as justification to release a translation with no regards for quality. True VN fan here man.
Fuck the author, fuck the developer and fuck the respect the VN deserves.
Nothing important was lost.
But he's sure he missed a lot of jokes.
So he thinks that he missed nothing, but she's sure that he missed things.
Cognitive dissonance is a wonderful thing.
Bitching in general doesn't really solve any problems.
He's doing this out of his own volition for himself, but felt like sharing it to the community.
He didnt announce it as a "Translation Project" in the translation projects sections since its not specifically created for fan TL readers.
We can treat it as a project that doesn't even exist.
If people do help him and point out mistakes, it could result in a really good product.
He's not looking for any professional position, which is why he continued to do this alone, without contacting MG. So we shouldn't judge him as if hes getting paid since any incompetence is just because he's not skilled enough yet, which is why he's working on this as practice.
If we point out all his mistakes and he takes it very well, and uses it constructively, then thats good. But everybody takes a negative attitude and start bitching at him for everything, then nobody wins.
If MG decides to pick this up and release it before he finishes, he'll probably still continue for his own sake.
He has no editor. He joined the army which implies he didnt get college+ education or was not really fond of highschool - level education. You can't expect his writing to be exemplary. If he takes in an editor or stylistic writer into his team, it'll probably be a lot better.
Learning Japanese by "practicing" translating never works out well. Look at Ixrec. You just end up convinced that your own wrong interpretations are correct, rather than reading as much as you can to gain familiarity with the language.
Learn Japanese first, then translate. Never the other way around.
You don't remember right at all. The translation was about 50% wrong. Someone posted a segment, daring people to find errors. Two of the first three lines in it were completely wrong.
>This translation is good. Here's an example showing it's good.
>Your example is full of basic errors. Here are a number of them and why they're wrong.
>YOU'VE NEVER SHOWN IT'S BAD
Now only if he kills himself we win.
So I grabbed some lines from the Sukimazakura translation (I think the opening lines? Haven't started playing it yet) and the original game using a hex editor.
【Yuma】「A Cherry Blossom Country...?」
No, that's not quite right.
【Yuma】「More like a city than a country.」
That is, a Cherry Blossom City.
【Sakura】「Hey, hey, brother. What is this place?」
【Yuma】「That's a good question.」
【Sakura】「This...isn't a dream, right?」
When I look up, the sky is completely covered in a spring haze.
Indeed, covered in a cloud of flowers. The sky is being obscured by a cherry blossom tree.
【Yuma】「How about you pinch your cheeks to check?」
Please shit over it and tell us how bad it is.
More confirmation he comes here even though he pretends not to, considering that's a reaction to >>14323298 and the related discussion.
I suspect he's even the guy that kept arguing in posts like >>14324413. Look, the time of the tweets even matches.
Well, for a strat, he's literally translated 国 as country when that's obviously incorrect, so he's just using the first definition on the dictionary entry. He maintains Japanese sentence structure, which is imbecilic and also grammatically fucked up in English. And has mistranslated 桜の花 as cherry blossom tree.
So that's a great start.
Dovac has been coming to /jp/ to talk shit forever. It's one of his favorite ways to stroke his ego and generate drama centered around himself.
He just does it anonymously now, since he kept putting his foot in his mouth.
Why would I know something like this? Why is something so stupid even an acronym? I'm not going to google something an idiot says. There was no need to make an acronym of that in the first place.
To be fair, he's not even using FUD particularly well. SP, and he, have provided numerous legitimate problems and inconsistencies in what he says and what he does. Accusing their problems and fuckups of being FUD instead of addressing them shows that their strategy for 'fixing' them is to continue to accuse everyone who has a problem with anything they do of being haters.
Strangely enough, it doesn't seem wrong. There is actually a giant cherry blossom tree which they refer to as 桜の花. Can someone who actually knows Japanese comment on this?
But they already noticed the petals, then they noticed there was a huge tree covering the city. And Sakura clearly said '桜の花' in that line.
Truth. This is just yet another one of Dovac's "haters gonna hate" whines and not an appropriate time to be complaining about FUD.
By the way, ever noticed that Herkz does the same fucking thing as Dovac? Why are such shitty people also such prominent names in this community?
It's probably a better translation than this meh game deserves.
"is being obscured" is bad writing 101, but I guess a proper editor would fix that.
国 as Country, and 桜の花 as cherry blossom tree depend on the context, but I'd normally translate the former as land or kingdom, or maybe some other a little bit more poetic word depending on the context.
No real translation errors otherwise.
He's not wrong, though it's not like your pathetic excuse for a point qualifies as a counterargument. Fansubbers are all a bunch of idiots who throw memes in their translations and get overly liberal just because they think they're funnier than the original writer (not unlike how NIS America does things, which is why they're so shit). Crunchyroll translations are faithful without being stilted.
You believe that this 'translator' who is just learning the language, admits that he doesn't understand most jokes in Japanese, and lacks even a high school level of English writing ability, but is nevertheless translating using poetic metaphor.
Speaking of cognitive dissonance...
Please don't samefag so obviously.
Another patch attempt by someone who by his own admittance has no bussiness translating anything.
Another patch showcase full of mistakes.
Another shitty argument about it.
And in the future another translation attempt that will stop incomplete.
That's the VNTS life.
But herkz and people like him are not making own fantranslations, they just add memes here and there to crunchyroll subs. I think its unfair to true fansubbers to call these freaks fansubbers.
>Fansubbers are all a bunch of idiots who throw memes in their translations and get overly liberal just because they think they're funnier than the original writer
That is just commie for the most part. Also the "professionals" like Funimation can be just as bad with adding memes as well.
>Herkz keeps keeping them alive
Considering most fansubs are just edits of the official translations, they are fairly close to being dead.
This discussion isn't about Funimation, I know they suck and it annoys me because Crunchyroll is good but Funimation makes official translations look bad.
And the meme subs are everywhere, look at FFF or UTW. Plus the ones who aren't meme subbers like Vivid literally just paste the official translation onto a different encode and call it a day.
>This discussion isn't about Funimation
Is still worth bringing up since they get around half the shows a season now.
Rather have then over Funimation any day. Not like the fansub scene is going to pick up any time soon after all.
The "airport incident" was from something they did last year, and it's common knowledge that they fired that translator. Unlike Funi, Crunchyroll doesn't hold back. If you deliver shit, you're out. Amusingly, I've heard Herkz applied for Crunchyroll but failed their test.
I suppose, which is annoying. Their bullshit is exactly the reason why people have no faith in official work. They need to learn that Funi is not representative of all translations.
It doesn't, but when there is nothing else to go with other than commie and FFF (who will fall behind as usual) as alternatives then what would you suggest? Well other than improve on your Japanese and watch it raw that is.
"Hurr they're former fansubbers so they're still fansubbers" is a ridiculously stupid thing to say. No, idiot, they're people that got a job because they take their work seriously. Like MangaGamer, which is why MG's work is of consistently better quality than fan translations. Also you've sure provided tons of great examples to support your point.
You know how you can tell Herkz is unqualified to be an editor? He loves Heartcatch Precure, an absolutely awful show and easily the worst Precure. This man doesn't know shit about anything, especially not editing.
This is the second thread in a row of people jacking off in an outrage over fucking herkz. Why do you guys give a shit about that attention whore? He's probably creaming himself over all this goddamn attention.
How bout instead of posting about him when there's nothing to gain and the only thing that will happen is that he'll snap your post and shit upon it from his twitter perch, resulting in him making ya'll even more angry, you instead just don't talk about the faggot? Save that outrage for posting stuff that's actually seriously damaging to him, like that frontwing bitching of his. Especially since you can bet your ass he's too much of an egomaniac not to make more fuckups like that.
Considering the metaphor translation fits far, far better than your translation, which makes no sense in context...I'd say, yes, he seems to have translated that line well.
You think that when it says there is a cloud of petals, it's supposed to say a cloud of tree.
Are you even trying to convincingly shitpost anymore or just going through the motions?
>Indeed, covered in a cloud of flowers. The sky is being obscured by a cherry blossom tree.
>Indeed, covered in a cloud of flowers.
>The sky is being obscured by a cherry blossom tree.
>cherry blossom tree
Stop being retarded. I know you're shitposting, but people are going to be parroting this for several threads as "proof" the translation is bad.
