What are you reading? Looking forward to? The flood of "transported/reincarnated into fantasy land" stories trend needs to die down already, though I can't decide if it's worse than Battle Academy Harems.
That being said, still excited for this anyway. That volume 1 ending, damn.
reading pic related. literally /ak/ the light novel.
I forgot a link I had a week or so ago.
The setting's tech was very low-key. Bronze or Iron Age.
MC was a blacksmith, and the story was mainly about him, his lover, and the people in their town.
Almost zero fantasy, definitely not sci-fi.
I need your halp.
Recently, read Sayonara Ryuusei Konnichiwa Jinsei.
Not exactly a typical reincaration story since MC never experienced being a human and was always a dragon but got reborn hundreds of years later as a human.
It is alright. And I like the MC's catchphrase "Fumu".
Also, recently read Elf Tensei Kara no Cheat Kenkokuki and I have to say the author really seems to love wild game meat.
Raw deer liver, wild boar meat, etc
Makes me wonder if the author enjoys hunting.
Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku O
Got to say, surprised the MC
actually went and killed such a cute monster girl.
Picked up Index again, got through 14-16 these past few days.
Starting 17 now. Out of those three, the battle royale was easily the best.
Kawakami stuff as usual. Will probably start the new Index volume while js06 is focused on that.
Pretty much whatever js06 translates.
I keep telling myself to keep going through Heavy Object since I burned through the first volume a few weeks ago and loved the Hollywood action movie antics, but I keep putting it off after starting the first chapter or two of volume 2.
I'm having so much fun with this series
I really enjoyed the first volume, looking forward to the second.
Not going to write LNs anymore.
I'm happy elf martial artist reincarnation is getting translated again.
Anyone read Maken no Daydreamer?
Felt the story became less enjoyable once MC made a party and the story stopped being a story about a solo adventurer.
I don't really like MC's current heroine aka Elk.
It just feels wrong for Elk to be the main heroine when
MC and his succubus mother already fucked and MC's end goal is defeating all the monsters on his mother's list that gives him the right to impregnate his succubus mother since MC is an incubus, himself, and not really human, either And I hate how the author does a horrible job trying to powerlevel a normal person like Elk to try to catch up to MC.
And MC and Elk's relationship is so confusing.
MC doesn't exactly treat Elk like an actual girlfriend but Elk seems to think she became MC's girlfriend. Are they just fuck buddies or what or is one side misunderstanding the other side?
Currently reading "And you thought there is never a girl online?" Enjoying the shit out of it.
Can't wait for anime.
Looks like Kawakami released new book; I think it's Seijun spin-off. Can't wait.
Korean LN localization is almost complete; we got volume 4 last week and I think there's only 2 more to go, was it?
His goal is to attain all the 12 that he had in the past and nothing will stop him from doing so. He doesn't give a shit about the other 9.
>he flood of "transported/reincarnated into fantasy land" stories trend needs to die down already,
Eat a dick anon, the trend is only still new and there quite a few good things in it. Stop being a faggot
But it is implied that even with the help of the original 11 goddesses, it won't help much against defeating the Goddess of Time.
So doesn't it make sense that instead of 11 against 1, it would be better to have 20 against 1?
Reading Spice and Wolf #5, getting Durarara #1-2 in the mail this week and probably getting The Devil is a Part-Timer #3 and Kizumonogatari next month.
Yes, I read official translations, don't judge
It's SOL but fused with high schoolers who play online games, and they create club to pursue their hobby life. Though, it's awfully simplified story.
There's manga version translated somewhere. Give it a shot. Full Japanese title is "Netoge no Yome wa Onna no Ko ja nai to Omotta?"
At this point I have gone through around 6 LNs that do this. There are still more good ones I should read and now sky is translating another one. Please no more I can't take it.
That's the official title on the LN, used in Japan, has been used for Korean localization, and will be for the western animation title. See bottom of the cover provided.
Anyone read the New Gate.
It is the few summoning stories involving a former video game world, that I find tolerable.
In the recent chapter, I am confused on whether or not Shin had a more difficult time fighting against Skeleton Lord versus fighting Girard.
I know the fight against Girard lasted way longer and Shin's hax equipment actually got damaged when fighting against Girard, but when fighting against the Skeleton Lord back in the previous volume, it felt like Shin was more willing to use more destructive fatal sword techniques that he didn't use against Girard.
Both fights were difficult but which opponent really caused Shin to go all out more for in the end.
But that's just because Japanese people suck at translating their own shit to english. The actual translation would be something like "You thought your wife in the netgame wasn't a girl?"
When he fought against the Skullface Lord he had his full unsealed stats. He was using half of those fighting against Girard, aka his game stats. Also Girard was a faster and much smarter opponent. Shin would never have been able to use those techniques against him.
Anyone read Isekai Maou to Shoukan Shoujo Dorei Majutsu?
One of the few LNs that has a good manga adaption when most of them suck.
It is a pretty chill story so far and I like how MC's spells are OP because MC brought over real life chemistry and physics knowledge to justify his elemental powers.
Also, MC wants to treat his harem regularly but MC is pretty bad at talking with women so MC is forced to roleplay as a Demon Lord so everything he says, sounds terrifying to his harem and he talks like a douchebag sometimes.
And one time he tried to sign a contract that required a blood seal, MC stabbed himself too hard due to being too nervous and scared everyone in the room but MC just brushed it off and implied that such a bloody contract was expected of a Demon Lord.
Yep read what is translated of it. I really wish translations were faster.
>One of the few LNs that has a good manga adaption when most of them suck.
While this is true it's in no small part because the LN's they're based on fucking suck too.
I don't think I've seen any manga adaptations that don't do "justice" to the source material. Most of even the decent ones are relatively rough and amateurish, but so is the source.
Does anyone know of Yen Press is ever going to finish the rest of the Bungaku Shoujo books or are they just going to keep picking up FotM shit and then dropping it after 2 volumes when it stops being popular?
But it follows the MC who, predictably, has a sword and kamen rider armor
No one knows. Can't believe Sky dropped Gifting just because he said it ain't worth it since no one cared he subbed the Gifting Drama CD.
How do you base the reception of a LN just over a Drama CD?
It is like he ignored people who donated to him before for Gifting chapters like 1 year ago.
And then he goes and pretends people would actually care about the super obscure Korean shit he plans to translate next that no one heard of before.
Was fairly fast but updates just stopped recently.
Not even sure if Ch.1 part 6 marks the end for the 1st chapter. I just want to read to read Vol.6 already because the princess in the cover is cute.
The MC is a psychopathic 30 year old Japanese Salary man who's obsessed with advancing in his job field and was killed by an employee he laid off. He get's reincarnated in a warmongering nation that employs the use of child soldiers and proceeds to advance in his job field once again.
Time and Space Goddess is best girl. Just saying.
Yeah LN first then you start caring about the side materials, hopefully interest picks up when the anime airs or not.
I am looking forward to volume 6 as well since it has Chris party adventures but I am mostly looking forward to see how the author goes now since they took out 4 generals and I remember Wiz saying how Aqua can break the barrier even with 2/6 generals remaining
This asshole keeps promising new chapters and never fucking delivers. I just want my father daughter SoL
/jp/ doesn't give a shit about LNs, they never have. LN discussion has always been on /a/.
>Wait 2 months for Volume 1 of TnY
>Volume 2 is also currently out of stock
Just kill me.
Speaking of rim jobs, anyone here read the rated 18 LNs that the Index translator, translates, in his spare time.
Seems js06 likes translating rated 18 /ss/ stories.
He is also translating the Adam of Puberty series, you know the LN that has a manga where MC fucks a brown skinned angel and his eye powers cause girls to start cumming in his presence.
You know how some people mention that there really isn't a cooking summoning fantasy LN?
Well, I remember browsing around the net and came across this LN title.
Basically, MC has been working at his parent's restaurant for a long ass time and one day, while taking out the trash to the dumpster behind his family's restaurant, he gets summoned to a fantasy world.
And basically, MC just cooks in the fantasy world and introduces stuff like hamburgers.
Any potential fighting against enemies is done by MC's friends or harem.
MC just basically goes around cooking. That's it.
I guess you just read the story for hot babes stuffing themselves with hamburgers.
I really need the third chapter of Guild's Cheat Receptionist. Really enjoying it so far.
just found about uchinara
god why doesnt this have any translations
Because obviously we as readers don't deserve Father and Daughter stories.
>Kumoko's latest chapter
>Reread the premise
>There's a world where the Hero and Demon Lord constantly wage war. The transcendent magic from the two crosses over dimensions and erupted in a high school classroom. The students who died in the explosion are reincarnated in the other world. The protagonist who was at the bottom of the caste in the class was reincarnated into a spider monster. Nevertheless, with her abnormally strong willpower, she quickly accepted the situation and adapted to it relatively easily. This is the story of our spider monster protagonist's survival life.
I wonder if anyone will pick up this one. Basically guy's bird dies and is reborn in another world as a girl and then summons him to that fantasy world to be with her.
The author is amazing with those set ups huh?
Kono Sekai ga Game da to, Ore dake ga Shitteiru is what I've currently been enjoying. I'm surprised I enjoy it so much. It's another one of those characters get transferred to another world, where the mc is transported to a game, but the original game was a fucking piece of shit with glitches and mistakes everywhere. And all the glitches and shit transferred to the reality of this world, mixing reality and game.
>Q: I just can’t seem to kill the Red Mushrooms in the Forest of Beginnings! Is this a bug?
>A: It’s a bug. We believe that the staff accidentally put an extra zero in its defense stat. If you meet one, either run away or defeat it with magic. This is the sort of shit that happens in this LN or WN, I have no idea what it actually is.
>Q: I obtained a sword named the Silver Knight’s Sword, but when I equip it I lose the ability to use sword skills. Is this a bug?
>A: It’s a bug. No matter how you look at it the Silver Knight’s Sword is a sword, but it’s classified as an axe. Either equip a different weapon, or take this opportunity and switch to being an axe-wielder.
Speaking of Vanadis, the author, himself, recommends this LN as well.
Ochitekita Ryuuou to Horobiyuku Majo no Kuni
Basically, Young Oda Nobunaga gets summoned to a fantasy world and he takes over the new fantasy world by allying with Witches.
There are even more battle tactics than Vanadis.
Shame there are no more translation efforts for this LN.
Currently waiting for more Horizon translations. 4-A feels exciting already.
That's when they first met. He found her in the woods and then took her back to the place where he was staying and decided to adopt her.
I think that it already foreshadowed that he might end up as the new demon king instead if he keeps going down the road of power. We already have the whole 'kill him if he stops being human' going on.
MC can use time-space type stuff. Time Stop, Teleportation. Girl is legendary Archmage level with godly level of mana and was getting marriage requests from everyone since she's the adopted daughter of the Pope as well. Pope ships the two of them though.
DC translation when?
I'll only rest in peace once I know everything OnC related has been translated.
He's taking a break to sort out his married life and said that he's going to change publishers and start writing regular novels eventually. Most of his posts on Twitter recently have been about smatphones and the music band he worked with to make the Hakomari OP and ED.
I want more Magicraft Meister chapters. 3 chapters supposedly coming in the next week.
Cafe owner guy isn't really the MC though. He's just the cook that appears every chapter. Each chapter is told from the customers' point of view after all.
I'm currently waiting for the translations to catch up with the latest chapter. I really can't get myself to care about the edgy oni, the vampire or any of the other characters that are not Shiraori.
He is currently writing for the Kodansha Taiga label and making good progress. (http://taiga.kodansha.co.jp/)
According to his tweets, he feels that the book he is working on right now will turn out awesome, and that he has already been told that the one he's gonna write after that has a promising plot.
Waiting for my Honto order to ship, after which I'll be reading the shit out of pic related (Babylon). I love Mado Nozaki.
What LN has the most creative fanbase (in terms of fanart, fanfiction, fan music, fan games etc)?
The 2hu of LNs, basically.
Seriously, volume 2 is also already out. Someone else should pick it up.
Picked up Vanadis the other day.
Half way through volume 2 now. I've heard many good things about it, and Tigre isn't annoying in any way neither is Ellen so far, so I'm looking forward to how the story progresses.
I just hope Ellen doesn't lose relevancy as the story goes on.
>want to read latest Zashiki Warashi but forgotten what happened in previous volumes already
>want to read latest Antimagic Academy but forgotten what happened in previous volumes already
>want to read Owari no Chronicle and Hakomari but locked into reading Campione
holy hell are you me?
this is exactly me.
then i dropped campione because at the time i read it the TL was dead for a longass while.
now i have no clue where the hell i was actually at.
This is my current downtime reading item at work and so far while it's a decent read things fall a tad too conveniently in the lap of the MC and takes up the doting daddy role real quick for having only known for two days.
Anyone else here read it raw and if so, how's the rest of the book? Is it going to be a comfy SoL outside the climax chapter or does it actually have a plot?
Ah. Too bad. I didn't order JP books yet, in hopes that Koreans will eventually pick it up. Kimi To Asamade won't be picked up, though, they said, because of the licensing problem, so I'm kind of sad on that, unfortunately. (Apparently, Kawakami gave the license of that book to Sunrise, and Sunrise is being difficult with it)
Haven't had single bitch-ass Korean complain about this series yet. I read half way, and took a break because this series has lot going on to absorb. It's good, but also makes me realize that "reincarnation" thing seems to be in now, and is kind of annoying seeing it everywhere now.
I thought the Japanese katana makers only needed to concern themselves so much with folding because their iron was absolute dogshit so repeated folding was the only way they could beat out enough impurity to make steel that was good enough for a sword. Literally everywhere else in the world they could make swords of even higher strength without needing to go full MUH FOLDING
I'm reading volume 6 of One turn kill partisan. Just realized op's LN is from the same author.
I'll check it out since I like this particular author's writing style.
Having recently found the convenience of reading the novels on my cellphone I started reading them massively after months of reading only the latest volume of Index and little more.
So I created an excel page with all the different novels and created and order based on number of pages, the order of the previously read novels (so that the last one I read was 1, the second to last was 2 etc.) and the number of volumes I downloaded of that series and started reading with a pacing of one novel every 1-2 days. Recently I finished Spice and Wolf 1, Owari no Chronicle 1-A, Highschool DxD 1, Heavy Object 2 and Rokka no Yuusha 1, I'm currently reading Chrome Shelled Regios 1 and the next ones are going to be Full Metal Panic 2, Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaou 1 and Slayers 4
S-sorry for the blog
Sorry for having asthma. If it helps satisfy your lust for little girls I'll probably put up the next part tomorrow. Maybe tonight if I get through the remaining pages smoothly.
What phone are you using? I find my phone's screen's a too small for comfortale reading, at least raw stuff, since it's all .jpgs and is zoomed all over the place. I constantly have to flick the screen which I don't particularly like.
It's an iPhone 4 (or 4S. Since it's an hand-me-down from my mother I can't really tell) and I usually search for the epub version to read with iBooks. The only one I read that was not in that format was FMP1 that was literally scans from the novel, and it was actually easily readable and, looking at Crest of the Stars, another novel I have in pdf format, it's still readable; maybe a little smaller than I would like, but still easily readable
Except that we literally do not know how Damascus steel was made, and can only guess. Modern Damascus involving pattern welding and folding is accepted to be technically distinct from actual Damascus steel.
Japanese Katana aren't a joke because of the folding. It's because the Japanese decided the garbage prototype stage was perfect. Other places kept on trying to actually make better swords. For instance there were swords where the blacksmith would fold the steel, braid it, hammer it flat, rinse, repeat until you have an amazing sword that I'm told is of astounding quality and a work of art. Japanese swords are the SAO of swords.
In the same way that much of garbage fantasy fiction doesn't bother with elaborating on the background of elves and dwarves because you are expected to fill in the blanks using Tolkien, so do these garbage writers expect you to fill in the blanks using shitty JRPGs.
No translation, so I have no clue.
>that's on topic
Pic related. It's a not-/a/-related volume I finished reading last week.
The reasoning still stands, even more so now since there are more and more adapted LNs.
And it IS simply stupid not to allow them, and I'll now stop writing about this since it's not going to change anything and only derail the thread.
I'd wouldn't mind the LN thread here (lord knows it's way better than all sorts of other threads we have), but if LN threads are being kicked out of /a/ then the "no light novels with animated adaptations" rule has to go.
That rule was added 3 years ago beause of how /jp/ shitposters used the LN rule as an excuse to talk about the anime of these adapted LNs. There's no reason to let it around anymore.
That rule is just to prevent series-specific threads from being spammed (index/saten spam, etc).
Nobody will care if you post LNs with an anime in a general kind of thread like this one.
Also, posting my backlog.
/jp/ was originally made to be /a/'s trash can for everything that wasn't anime or manga.
You do realize that if /jp/ didn't have threads for EOPs to discuss translated visual novels in 2008, nobody would be discussing untranslated VNs in /jp/ today, right? You seem to want dozens of perfectly fluent Japanese speakers to spring up out of nowhere and start browsing /jp/. It's not happening.
Your new is showing. LN threads have been accepted for several years. Plus, /jp/ is not only about touhou, but anything otaku culture that doesn't belong on /a/. Type-moon, especially tsukihime and melty blood threads have been around since 2008. Even mabinogi threads were around back then.
All of the TYPE-MOON shit went back to /a/ about three years ago.
LN threads have - up until the present - been acceptable in both /a/ and /jp/, but the /jp/ threads (being full of people who never deign to touch translated works) were always overwhelmingly dead.
A good amount of it went back but you remember as well as I do that occasional TM threads were definitively a thing for a long time (not sure about 2015 because I mostly stay in the VN general).
>were always overwhelmingly dead
Because everybody posted their weeb things on /a/ by default. But /jp/ is much better to have slow LN threads about non-specific series. Better for recommendations, translation status udpates, etc.
People just need ot get used to it. It will also help /jp/ with more content.
As someone who's posts aren't disappearing I think it is slightly lame that the thread is looking very one-sided (even if it is my side), which is part of why I recommended that you complain in /qa/ if you really care.
Having LN generals translated or not translated doesnt pose a problem here. Just dont bring your waifu with you. Seeing your mahouka thread with full miyukifags vs mayumifags or the Overlord threads with whose meido is best meido is vomit inducing.
LN generals are mostly for random unadapted works, with some other stuff thrown in. Popular stuff usually have their own threads with people discussing the anime, s2 never, best girl, vol x will never be adapted, etc.
This is really something that they should go bug hiro about.
Binge read all of Baccano. Train arc was god-tier, but the rest ranged from ok to generic and uninteresting. The ones that focused on Huey and/or his superhuman squads had pretty fanfic-y characterisation and plot. Ryohgo also likes to overuse the "all characters are badass except when one reveals themselves to be even more badass than expected" crutch. The last few volumes were a pain to read through because his characters just don't feel that unique anymore.
To me Durarara was a better work because the fixed setting and time period forced Ryohgo to be more economical with his plot and characters. He has more time to focus on developing the characters and locations.
Such threads have been allowed, always, did he seriously delete it now? Probably because of the image.
There are several threads where only LN discussions happen. Just some examples: Overlord, Index, DAL, Horizon, Oregairu, etc.
