>>22728652 I'd join the military for four jobs, in this specific order: 1. Fighter pilot, USAF 2. Attack helicopter pilot, US Army or USMC 3. Tank crew, US Army or USMC 4. Any position working on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier, USN or USMC
>>22728652 According to a close Navy friend of mine, no. He was on the Stennis.
According to him being in port was pretty fun. Got to go to Thailand, Dubai, and I think somewhere else. He had a chance to work on the deck for some peculiar reason (some Navy jargon.) Said that was interesting. Yet according to him it was really grueling and miserable overall.
On a brighter note he said people don't tend to think about suicide all that often because they simply don't have the time.
Is it true that after about 2 weeks aboard a ship the grossest ugliest fattest hog lady looks likes a 10/10? Is everybody fucking everyone? and if so, where? on a shit with no privacy (especially a submarine) where do you find a little space to bone. Assuming you care.
>>22729511 >>know people who work on Arctic boats all of them have a lifetime supply of porn. >lifetime supply of porn. sounds like what they would give as a prize. >announcer: behind this door is a life time supply of porn. >boat guy: yes yes that's what I'm talking bout! >announcer: but lets see whats behind door number two. >announcer: its a brand new car >guy doesn't even care, is faping faping faping.
>>22729104 >Navy Pilots seem like decent people, respect the deck crew that work like dogs to makes their flights possible >Marine Pilots come across as massive tools, the squadron leader literally saying "We don't care for the navy crew on the ship"
Why is there a marine squadron on there anyway? That just seems like a pointless source of conflict.
>>22729104 this was filmed around 2005 or so, in one of the later episodes they get to talking about their feelings about the Iraq war, its after no WMDs were found and the mission suddenly changed to "spreading democracy in the middle east" so lots of people are saying I just hope we can look back at this and see that it was a turning point when the middle east started to become free like back home
wonder what they would think now that Iraq is FAR worse than it ever was under Saddam and we might have to fight another war simply because we fucked it up so badly
>>22729104 >think about joining the navy >not sure if want to do computer security/intelligence for knowledge and then sweet civilian jobs getting paid to hack or to do SEAL/SWCC pipeline because oparatuh and I'm a pt whore. >ask recruiter a bunch of questions >ask about technical jobs >recruiter: "you'll be on a ship in deployments. it's really cool, it's a lot of hard work, but it's worth it" >"definitely an unforgettable experience, you learn a lot of things" >later read online about deployments on ships and carriers >pretty much like a floating high school >see this video >360nope.gif SEALS/SWCC it is!
My dad was a navigator on the Nimitz in the 80's and he's shared some pretty good sea stories. >Nimitz preparing for chemical/gas attack drills >Everyone carefully adjusts personal gas mask to fit perfectly in the event of an attack >Any time drill happens, everyone grabs whatever is closest to them, regardless of who's it is >Dad gets pissed and decides to mark his gas mask so that he will survive the attack in style >Writes "PSYCHO KILLER" across the front in big, sharpied letters >Next drill, someone took his gas mask again >theresabouttobeanewhostagecrisisonthisship.iran >Dad goes to line up for inspection outside >Inspecting officer finds his gas mask on new guy that dad works with, immediately begins chewing him out >notevenashellbackyet.equator >Dad can't let this kid take the hit for him, it's not right. He steps out of line and admits his guilt >"SIR, THAT IS MY GAS MASK SIR." >Inspecting officer demands to know what my Dad decided it was okay to deface Navy property. >"SIR, I WAS JUST TRYING TO GET MENTALLY PREPARED FOR WAR SIR. IF I SEE THE ENEMY I NEED TO KILL, KILL, KILL LIKE A PSYCHO KILLER SIR!" >Get's sent down to engine room to help them clean for 2 weeks as punishment for not taking the drills seriously. I love my Dad
>>22729683 You have no idea how fucked up maritime economics work.
>be back in 2012 >board old "three decker" ferry built in 1967 as a mechanic >built by the company's own shipyards >been going on the same route since it left land >been on the bottom of the sea (coast) two times >entire deck one is shut off since the elevator take 2½ hours to load and 2½ hours to unload >not profitable when the sea passage takes 4 hours >basically 4 full size gymnastics halls empty >empty bottom fucks up the balance, after a truck fell off deck three and in to the ocean during a storm they added in floating support on the sides >despite reconstructions and refurbishment of everything >all money invested in to it was paid back soon, and it had been doing profit for at least 30 years of its service time >company gives it another 5 years of service as well as two LNG tanks and two LNG engines to see if its economical and/or safe to use LNG aboard ships. >company is part of a corporation that is quite large with lots of daughter companies that are active in almost all economic sectors >except insurance or banking
Despite the shitty state of the ship and the suspicious owners it was the best ship I ever went to, daily donut eating contests and such. Also had an air rifle shooting range in one of the deck one rooms.
>>22728951 1. Fighter pilot, USAF 2. Attack helicopter pilot, US Army or USMC 3. Tank crew, US Army or USMC All great jobs if you like being ordered to kill civilians and facing court martial if you don't.
>>22729523 >high tempo deployment schedules. Lol, yeah that would suck ass. >divorces. Why would you even get married? >drug/alcohol addiction. Already here, so thanks for the concern. >PTSD Scary thought. >having your friends die and combat injuries Have no friends, got a decent pain tolerance, though im no super man. Honestly, can I some how train like I was in the military, I wanted to form a militia, something for my friends to do and if we just so happen to come across a recruiting place, enlist. How can I form a militia with military quality.
>>22735286 >How can I form a militia with military quality. go to the military, learn operator skills, become and operator. make connections in contacts with other operators. when you get out, use those contacts to form your militia that's how I'd do it.
>>22733743 >i thought the usa had seperation of church and state in its constitution
There is an establishment clause but there is nothing in the constitution that declares a separation of church and state. And literally every military has chaplains, you have to be 10 to not know this.
>>22733790 Because Religion hasn't been a core dynamic of the USA since the fucking pilgrims right? You sound like a high school drop out who gets all his information from trash like slate and huffpo.
>>22736117 Oh sorry, I guess poes law of whateverthefuck, yeah ill get to making an army/militia/club? >>22735997 In Canada land if that helps hide my ass, but around here I get the feeling its all airshit and fudd shit logic.
You also can't just grab random people to work on the flight deck. Outside of actual combat, working on the flight deck is one of the most dangerous jobs in America. You just cycle a bunch of unexperienced fucks out there.
>>22736614 You should try interviewing some people who have actually served on a flight deck. I haven't worked up there personally, but I knew some who have. I worked with them on a temporary duty on the mess decks and became friends with a few.
First off, flight ops don't happen every day. Second, from what they've told me, you get into a routine and just go about what your supposed to. There's no time to be exhausted.
Flight decks are inherently dangerous. There is so many moving parts, both figuratively and literally, that you can't keep track of them. You may be part of a group moving a plane while dozens of other events are happening at the same time that you know nothing about. You have to trust that the flight deck coordinator (fuck if i remember what that guy is called) knows what he's doing and most importantly, keep your head on a swivel as they say.
That being said, it's more dangerous to take unexperienced, untrained personnel (who are also exhausted mind you, maybe not as much, but still very much are) and putting them on the flight deck.
>>22736829 Where did I say use untrained personnel? I just wonder why they don't have enough trained deck crew for shifts, so it would be an 8-9 hour day instead of 16-18. Everyone is less exhausted, fewer accidents.
>>22736939 I thought when you mentioned a crew of 5,000, you meant take people from the rest of the crew. My bad.
It's a combination of cost, space issues, and manpower shortages for trained personnel. Yes, no matter what the manpower situations overall, shops always seemed to be hurting on people. But cost and space are probably the biggest issues. The military is cheap as shit. If they can get something done (that's actually important) with X amount people, they'll decide to use less anyway.
Btw, they do work in shifts iirc, but it's still very shitty.
>>22736614 No, because a flight deck is filled with a metric assload of things that will maul you in so many creative ways. If nothing else, jet blast will blow you over the side. Impacting the water from 60 feet up will fuck your world. That's if you're lucky. If you're unlucky, it cooks you like a moth in a candle before tossing you over the side. Jet intakes will suck the clothes off your back from a dozen feet away. You better hope that does enough damage to shut it down, because you're following by about half a second. You come out the other end as cooked chunks. You get good coverage, though. About an acre, iirc.
Helo rotors will take fist sized chunks out of your skull, about 2 per second. Tail rotors give you the vertical slice and toss treatment. Getting caught in a cat launch just throws you off the bow, although there's enough blunt force trauma for it to be in pieces. Oh yeah, cats are steam powered. That'll cook pieces right off of you.
Hydraulic shit everywhere, just waiting to pinch off bits, from fingers to legs to the top half of your head.
Arrestor cables will take your legs off at the navel.
And this is all when things are working properly.
When something breaks, you have high pressure fluids waiting to speed fillet your thoracic cavity, and high speed junk flying around everywhere, maybe a pressurized fuel fire blowtorching everything around, tons of damaged aircraft rampaging around, maybe loose munitions adding to the festivities and that one guy whose headgear caught fire running around until a prop stops him.
>>22733545 They ALWAYS do that unless they initiate contact themselves of their own volition. Whether its against the Iranians or Maadi Militia. If they think an infidel is running their shit they fold too. Thats why coalitions go wrong without fail. The Os don't care. They throw us in the meatgrinder at any level and hope nothing huge fucks them up before they can promote themselves into a nice desk inside the beltway.
>>22733743 dude when i was in the state police we had a fucking Chaplin. it pissed me off because he always lead everything in prayer. they made it seem like he was there as a counselor. thank god (pun intended) he was unpaid because i would have had a beef with that. they still gave him a fucking star which pissed me off.
on a side note, i just did a colors run with my sheriffs academy and the fucking sheriffs chaplin opened the thing with a prayer and closed it with some bullshit prayer. he had a star and a FUCKING RAID JACKET that had "CHAPLIN" printed on the fucking back. so much rage.
>>22729104 What the fuck is going on at the 44 minute mark? If my daughter called me at some ungodly hour to tell me that she drank like an idiot, got caught, and got her pay docked, I'd be fucking furious. Her dad barely sounds annoyed.
>>22734018 On a ship, fuck he'll be bustin rust and painting it up nice and shinny as an undes. While if he went on the right CT path to learn counter hacking it would be shore duty and easy advancement his whole career
>>22741119 >mfw she's legitimately upset that the Carrier Airwing Pilots have more privileges than her. Real talk now. Chances of serving on a Ronald Reagan Class Carrier? Going to apply for dat dere pilot slot out of college, but that's a few years off.
>>22739690 While I was on it (01-05), we used all of them most the time. Of course, for the first year or so while I was there, we were in port fixing everything so that might have been why it all wasn't fucked. Underway, if training and maintenance needed it, we could use less, but there was always some important thing that we needed all our speed for or the old man wanted extra redundancy for.
There was a couple times when E would be E and shit all over us, but it was still mostly working- albeit with some sleepless nights.
>>22741901 >watched these 5 of these episodes today before getting bored >i think it was episode 4 >one guy is so retarded >hates navy >he's been in for only a year >constantly uses racial slurs >get's too drunk and arrested while docked at Guam >gets himself kicked out for being racis >is happy about it my face for half the episode
>>22742371 >first one finally let allowed into sub crew >sub goes down >2 weeks later >primal urges kick in >woman: all these dicks! >men: th-that one pussy >"n-no one on the surface will ever know!" >sub becomes gangbang chamber >no work gets done >reactor fails and that will be the first and last time they ever allow a woman to join a sub crew
>>22729104 >Episode 6 >Marine F-18s are dirty as shit and falling apart >They try to send off a plane that is leaking fuel everywhere >Crew suggests they keep a closer eye on them in the future >Marines just bitch and moan instead of taking care of the problem How
so glad i was a herky bird crew chief in the usaf, i just went from gas station to gas station breaking down in the nice places and having our pilot refuse base housing errrrytime feels good man, my 6 years was a drunken party
Marines were supposed to be disbanded after WWII as they are rudundant, but movies with John Wayne prevented them from being disbanded. Over time their role has expanded but they still are mostly useless.
>>22749934 To add, all that the US's separation of Church and State is..is that our Govt can't endorse and enforce any particular religion. But that doesn't mean it can't offer religious services to the people who want them. It also can't stop you from worshipping anything either.
>The First Amendment (Amendment I) to the United States Constitution prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, impeding the free exercise of religion, abridging the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, interfering with the right to peaceably assemble or prohibiting the petitioning for a governmental redress of grievances. It was adopted on December 15, 1791, as one of the ten amendments that constitute the Bill of Rights.
He's not. When send people to fight and kill and die, you need them prepared in every way possible.
The USA military has chaplains for Muslims (Sunni, Shiite, and all the others), Judaism (and all their varieties), all major Christian denominations, Hindus, Buddhists, Wiccans, and probably some that I don't know about.
>>22740075 >tfw Boats >no ships, based type 2 sea duty(on base) in VA >occasionally see pics of m8's busting their asses inna ships >no chipping no painting no boot shining no painful ass watches >we go on FTX's and sweet deployments that are 2- 4 weeks or 3 months max >wearing cool as fuck type 3's >instead we oper8 huge forklifts trucks and cranes >every day im grateful for the massive bullet i just dodged >tfw got a sweet deal >deal with this for now and join the River Rats thereafter

>>22744857 that was really fucking bad. i was losing my shit , yelling at the screen. swallow your fucking pride. he's like i don't like when people go hard on my boys. WELL YOUR BOYS DOING SHIT LIKE THAT COULD CAUSE A FUCCKKING FIRE ON AN AIRCRAFT CARRIER . shit like that cause shit like the uss forrestal. my blood pressure is through the roof. and way to adress an officer dick.
