What unorthodox/improvised weapons would you use against riot police, either from the street if you were foolish enough to be there or from the rooftops/apartment windows.
Assume you are not using firearms for whatever reason and no store bought blackpowder ect.
Beyond your average molotov cocktail I'd say 1-1.5L plastic bottles with dry ice and water would cause a great deal of damage and confusion. That and no one would want to touch them once they've been thrown, try to kick it away and suddenly you can't hear and have a sprained ankle.

Cut 6in square of newspaper, put gp paste on edge of newspaper and roll to 1/4in diameter, let dry in open air. Rub gp paste deeply in to shoestring, cut in 6in length, let air dry. Overlap end of newspaper/gunpowder tube1in with gunpowdered shoelace 1in, tape together with masking tape. Glue 1 cap on pvc pipe, insert newspaper/gunpowder tube into pipe. While keeping NP/GP tibe centered pack first mixture into pipe 4/5 to top of pipe let air dry. When dry drill hole in second pvc cap, threaf shoelace through hole, glue cap in place. Lite and throw, cover eyes.

I'd say another option would be just slow burn thermite canisters
6 iron oxide to 5 aluminum to 1 sodium bicarbonate (Baking soda)
Makes it smoke a bit, but slows it down.
Still emites amazing amounts of hear, and if mixed poorly will burn in spurts. Could be used as a means of defense against police tactics.
If one guy sees it, he'll alert everyone, and either run from it, or jump on it, or throw it.

Oh, and for shits and giggles, gunpowder + baking soda + sulfur can make lethal smoke bombs.

The idea is for pressure inside the pipe to great the heat to lite thermite before rupturing pvc pipe. If the maker doesn't use very much water you get a fast ignition of thermite, if you you lots of water you get a tighter pack when its dry which will cause chunks to stick and burn literal holes in enemy.

I'd make it 4, 1, 3. Since, most metal oxides are super similar, I believe. Would lead to a quicker reaction, therefor more light... the UV emitted by the oxidizing aluminum and magnesium would certainly be enough to blind someone, if you made this in a 1 inch wide by 3 to 5 inch long pipe.

Good sir I have a 7th grade education and I am a trail by error chemist. I've made these once at my rTio at I got a good flash out of it. Now im not saying its the best formula, but the formula I came up with on my own and I got the desired results, so I gave it as such. To answer your question though ye magnesium ignites the aluminum/iron oxide or so my limited knowledge says. Either way these will make a big boom and bright flash, never minding the maiming and instant 3rd degree burns to anyone with 15 feet of it. But I will definitely adjust my formula to see if I get a better result
Well, typically, an iron oxide thermite has an 8 to 3 ratio iron to aluminum.
Adjusting based on the burn rate desired.
And generally speaking, the more oxygen, the faster/ hotter shit burns.
You dont need the magnesium to light the thermite, but it certainly helps, if you get really small iron oxide and alumin dust, like, 50 microns, you can start it with flint and steel.
The magnesium is likely most of the flash, since the thermite you're using doesnt burn THAT bright.

Looked into a bit, and usually it is just oxidizing the aluminum, or the magnesium.
So, you only need one or the other.
Magnesium is relatively expensive, so I'd be tempted towards using aluminum powder, but it has a weaker flash, for sure.
So, perhaps try to get your hands on ammonia nitrate, and use that with the magnesium?

Some heavy oxidizer, and magnesium should do it.
Then the gunpowder just to start the burn.
I'd suggest having it get ignited from the outside of the cylinder of material though.
So that when the reaction gets set, it doesnt all just explode everywhere, it all burns off before hand.

One thing I notied playing with an 8 to 3 mixture iron oxide and aluminum, is that if you dont mix it fully, and have an air pocket or two, you can make it spray molten iron a good distance.
With 110ml of it, I managed to get molten metal chucked a solid 12 feet in all directions.

Basically, you're just oxidizing pottasium chloride, or maybe exchanging chloride for chlorate, since bleach is sodium perchlorate.

By shock explosive, I bet I used the wrong term, Im not a proffessionally trained chemist, since I like figuring shit out, so while I take my year off of school, Im tinkering.
However, what I meant by it was a shock sensitive explosive.
Tanerite is a mixture of aluminum powder and ammonium nitrate, and it wont go off by burning or the like, it needs to be shocked.
Usually it's mixed to be activated by rifle rounds, and used in explosive targets. Im sure some /k/ommandos have played with it.
Likely, a similar mixture would be made with magnesium, since it's a tad similar to aluminum.
Ammonia nitrate is really easy to get, it's in cold packs, if you want to take the niggrigged science approach.
Or, make it out of nitric acid and ammonia, but that seems a tad risky.
Or, just buy it on the internet.

Most of the shit you need for this stuff is really cheap, or easy to make, I've made quite a bit of pottassium nitrate out of soil, which is a fun process. Iron oxide is cheap as fuck, and aluminum is too, if you have time.
I recall a guide a while back for making thermite out of aluminum cans and steel wool. Interesting, at least.
A variation- roofing nail taped to primer, 3 feet of crepe streamer taped to the crimp end. Toss in air, streamer acts as tail to keep it properly oriented. It'll go off if it hits a helmet, or the pavement, or possibly a shoulder.

Saltpeter is a relatively weak oxidizer... Look into using ammonia nitrate, it's faster.
The way I was taught about weak and strong oxidizers was, a weak oxidizer will turn into rocket fuel if theres a hole it can escape from.
A strong oxidizer doesnt give no fucks and will still do what it wants too.
You need a very rapid oxidation, so look into various oxidizers you can obtain, use that with some fuel, charcoal should do fine, otherwise might even wanna go metalic.
If you're ballsy, you can do the ammonia nitrate and aluminum mixture I mentioned earlier, just have to make it stable enough to carry around, but unstable enough to go off when it hits a surface hard (like popits)

So, if you wanna do this more efficiently, you an run water through your fertilizer, then filter it through some cloth.
Let the water evaporate off, and you'll be left with some white crystals, mix those with the fuel oil, diesel works, at like 90% 10% by weight.
Normally, with pure materials, you do 96% and 4%, but this is throwing shit together to blow shit up.
Basically, in the fertilizer, you have nitrates, which is (Something) bonded to an NO3 molecule. The point of the reaction is to bond that O3 onto something else, so depending on the strength of the original bonds, your shit will blow up quicker, faster, and more.
Nitrates happen to be super soluble in water, whereas a lot of the shit in dirt/ fertilizer isnt.
You can purify the white crystals as much as you want, but your best bet is probably running water through the fertilizer and taking what you can from one run through.
After that, and you're likely losing a bit of material.

realy you should be working on ways to counter police techniques like building cheap riot shields to hand out to rioters with basic instructions on how to form a shield wall and using 3 man slingshots to high arc surplus flechetes which are cheap and can be bought b the thousands onto police most flechettes are self stabalizing an have rather effective penetration on lightly armored targets when falling at terminal velocity
