AK Buyer's Guide:
That "guide" is garbage and full of opinions.
A good buyers guide needs to be unbiased.
>Plus it's on google docs, that logs your info unless your incog-negro.
gg no re
I'm seriously considering buying that. It's $22 shipped to the US.
Has anyone bought AK stuff off Alibaba?
Am wondering if this will fit on the rail?
How hard would it be to zero in and will it hold zero?
Yeah, I'm well aware of the shit quality of Chinese made shit.
But for less than $50 shipped to the USA....
I think I'm going to try it out.
It's an AK for fuck's sake....not some faggot ass mall ninja AR15. In the spirit of the AK, cheaply made shit is supposed to something or other.
Guys, I bought a BP02 Belarus mount and it looks different from the ones you find online (2 side screws instead of 4 and no "made in Belarus rollmarks) is there anything that should allow me to identify if it s a fake one ? Do fake ones even exist...
>But for less than $50 shipped to the USA....
Let's stop for a minute and fucking think here before jumping onto buying garbage you and I both know is shit.
It may be less than $50 right? And when it does eventually fuck up and break, that's money wasted there, and it doesn't stop there. You're going to be constantly trying to fix it when the zero starts to wander around.
Everyone on these threads and better yet, everyone on fucking /k/ needs to stop making purchases soley on instant gratification. primary arms makes a good fucking optic with a good warranty for $160. Slap an rs mount on your gun and you have a really damn good setup for only ~330 bucks.
Or you can just be the retard that never learned to save his money for good quality shit and only wants EVERYTHING NOW NOW NOW NOW and wonder why he's poor
And for your question no, nobody fucking buys gun shit from ali baba because we'r
Just bought an awesome polish kit build from DA, and it's 100x nicer than my shitty Arsenal it replaced.
The problem is my eyes are shit. Really, really shit; so I'd like to put some type of magnified optic on it. Ideally it should be under $500 including the mount (and rings, if applicable). Something like a 1-4x or fixed 3x/4x would be ideal, it just needs to be really fucking rugged (and the screws shouldn't back out under recoil and need to be loctited).
While we are on the subject, does anyone recommend the POSP line of optics or is the PSO a much better buy? I want to get a 4x for my AK, but I've heard reviews all over the place on POSP's. I looked into the WPA ones and they are Chinese, so I'm just gonna avoid them. Plus, they are more expensive.
so i asked this in the previous thread:
for a 5.45 rifle that you plan on tacticooling, what would you faggots choose: an unconverted Saiga, a RWC converted Saiga, or a DDI Century build when they come out?
you could go with an slr104.
pic related is my fully 922r compliant tacticool blaster.
PSO is military and for x54r, posp is civilian and has bdc for x54r and 7.62x39. I have a 4x24, optics are very clear but it does sit up high and offset .75" to the left. Still have the ability to use irons with the scope attached and the illuminated recticle is for night or very low light shooting only, you can't see the illumination at all in daytime, even when cloudy
>kinda don't want a left side folder for side mount rail use
Then don't fold the stock. Literally the only time I fold my stock is when I have too little range bags and I need to make the rifle fit in something smaller. Other than that the stock is open 95% of the time.
SLR104s are the best 5.45 rifle on the market for the money.
>tfw only two spam cans of 7n6 left
>tfw shot every last round of non corrosive Wolf that I had last weekend
A local gun shop was for the longest time selling Wolf 5.45 for like $0.21 a round and I would just buy large amounts from them because it was cheap and it supported a local business, but they suddenly stopped selling it and now I'm back to buying ammo online
So my 5.45 Saiga found its way back to me today. Thanks to Flandre for an excellent job done with perfect timing. Can't wait to take it out this weekend.
can the guy who picked up his new SLR-104 recently say where he bought the rifle from?
I don't want to pay Atlantic prices and Prepper has stopped getting new Arsenal rifles in.
I don't know much about AK brands but why does it seem like they all have a chance of having canted sights or having something else wrong with them. I want to buy one but all I hear is how they're all sort of flawed in one way or another.
because its a rifle designed to be mass produced. shitty tolerances and less attention paid to manufacturing comes with the territory.
unfortunately that mindset hasnt been changed when producing for consumers in smaller numbers. they just take less time spent making the weapon to increase profits.
It's just the nature of the beast. Buy in person or roll the dice.
The best thing about /akg/ is that if you're sporting an hohol, fascist, American, commie, Russian, Rhodesian, Chechen or whatever flag, but have a nice ak on it, no one with different positions opinions will sperg out
Anyone have pics of slavs operating with 74Us? Most pics of Russian troops I can find show them with standard AK-74Ms, AKS-74s, etc. But not 74Us.
There should be discussion on the acceptable '74 brands these days since Waffenwerks is sketchy.
Also, anyone have a suggestion for a good plum or dark cherry stain? Going to restain my WASR's stock / handguard again tomorrow.
SLR-104 is pretty much it. There isn't the same diversity of affordable 5.45 AKs as there is with 7.62x39.
Your best option for 5.45 is the SLR104. If you don't mind paying out the ass the SGL31 is great too. If you can find one for cheap and don't mind converting it 5.45 Saigas are also fantastic. VEPRs are also great if you don't mind the furniture or if you want to spend time and money swapping the furniture.
7.62x39 AKs have the easy answer: Buy a WASR. 5.45 AKs don't have it that way.
>Rifle converted by Flandre
>Haven't plugged those trigger holes
You and I, we are alike.
Arsenals are bottom-tier. They aren't the best anything for the money. Talk to Atlantic. Talk to Classic. Talk to Prepper. They'll all say that Arsenal QC is extremely poor and to expect moderate to severe cant on the gas block and sights. Hell, Arsenal is so shit that Prepper isn't even placing orders for them from K-VAR anymore because they have such a high defect rate.
If you're doing it for shits and giggles, by all means. If you're looking for something that'll be robust enough to handle the abuse, buy once cry once. Just let us know how it turns out
It's disappointing as fuck to see once legendary brands go to shit. At least you've got custom shops churning out god-tier AKs, and DDI has the affordable mid-range covered, so it's not like we don't have great options.
I would personally get a 5.56 VEPR conversion from Krebs or Definitive, since buying 5.45 at this point is retarded; but if you insist on 5.45, Rifle Dynamics has some absolutely top-tier builds.
Just got an Arsenal SLR104. Its pretty nice and real "clean", unlike my Century AK's which have some blemishes and nicks and whatnot from the surplus parts. Overall, I'm very happy with it. Still have to shoot it, though.
One thing I have noticed also, and I'm actually not sure how I feel about it, though, is the toightness. My mags have 0 wobble, but not all of them fit. I have a few Russian surplus and some Fapco shit that won't even lock in. Any ideas on what I should do? It seems like the front notch needs to be a little deeper, but I've always just filed down the back tab in the past for my steel 7.62 mags. I've also filed down the catch on my WASR (and it works perfect now), but I'm a bit reluctant to do that here.
To add to that, I really don't feel like paying 50+ dollars for new Bulgy mags. Is there anything decent and more cost effective out there?
>still cheaper than 5.56
>better ballistics when comparing cheap shit fmj ammo
>less bolt thrust=less recoil, easier on parts
>lower pressure=longer barrel life
I think your autistic views would be better served in the ARgeneral
I'd deal with it for now. I don't know if magwells can break in, but its worth a shot.
Also post pics of new rifle. Where did you get it btw? I'm looking at picking a 104 up myself.
Both. Their return policy is second to none. Make sure to specify in the order comments that you want the rifle inspected for cant before being shipped to you.
It may still have slight cant to it, but it wont be a worthless piece of shit that people can get elsewhere.
>mfw RRC specifically states on the webpage for the 107FR that cant within mil-spec is perfectly acceptable and to be expected
lel fuck that noise.
I don't see whats wrong with like a 1mm cant. It doesn't affect operation and really unless you really were looking for it, you probably wouldn't notice. Now, I've seen some Century AK's and even an SKS that had a front sight canted so bad it really did fuck up the sight picture (which still wasn't enough to compensate for the cant).
Also, pics inbound of the Arsenal...
>still cheaper than 5.56
3-4¢ cheaper with a significantly smaller selection.
>better ballistics when comparing cheap shit fmj ammo
You can get sub-moa with 77gr Sierra MatchKings out of a Krebs build. Enjoy your 3-4moa Arsenal.
>less bolt thrust=less recoil, easier on parts
All stamped receivers all fail around the 80,000rd mark, be it 5.56, 5.45 or 7.62.
>lower pressure=longer barrel life
You'll destroy your receiver before you shoot out a 4150 nitrided barrel.
Your slavaboo fuddlore is adorable.
Prepper Gun Shop has a better return policy. Purchased an SLR107-34 that came with 5 extra pmags, and had emailed them asking them to make sure it wasn't canted before sending it out. Turns out it was canted, so they told me they called up K-VAR and asked them to send one directly to my FFL after ensuring it wasn't canted.
Problem is, K-VAR didn't check, and sent me a really fucked up rifle. I had accepted it because I didn't notice how bad the gas block was canted at the time (bolt would actually get stuck out of battery from the piston catching on the gas tube). Prepper offered to help me contact K-VAR since I had accepted the transfer, and K-VAR basically told me to go fuck myself. Prepper then authorized a return and let me keep the 5 pmags for my trouble.
Fun fact, Arsenal's military production line produces flawless rifles with zero gas block cant, and zero to extremely minor FSB cant. That's the real "mil spec".
Their civilian production line is a joke.
I've heard that Arsenals milled line (which is most of their military stuff anyhow) is actually quite good, and doesn't exhibit the same level of shit that their stamped rifles do.
Soon. Pic related.
The SAM series has its own share of problems, you just don't hear about them as often. I would wager that's simply because they're moving far more SLRs.
If I was in the market for a milled AK, I'd get one of the new hammer-forged milled DDIs coming out this month.
>ships in extremely shit cardboard box with zero padding covered in paper-thin outer shipping box
>$999 definitive arms
>ships in hard case covered with bubble-wrap, packed in extremely sturdy outer shipping box
While it did not come in a hard case and all that extra shit, it did have retainers and stuff in the box, I just ripped them out so it was easier to put in and out. Regardless, its in nice shape and is exactly what I wanted. Isn't that all that should really matter here on AKG?
More pics coming.
The "retainers" in mine (one piece of folded cardboard with a roughly stock-shaped hole in it) and a tiny square with a roughly 74-brake shaped hole in it were both destroyed during shipping, and not even near the stock or brake when I opened the package at my dealer. The box itself looked like it had been ran over by a truck, and this shit came DIRECTLY from K-VAR.
Here's a pic of the receiver showing the serial (and brand new 2015 MFG date code, 1960+55 = 2015).
Excellent bang for your buck if you want something on the mid-high spectrum quality-wise and want that classic look.
http://www.atlanticfirearms.com/component/virtuemart/shipping-rifles/ddi-ak47-rifle-wood-stock-detail.html?Itemid=0 is another option.
I asked in the last thread, and it died before I got any help. Anyone know how to work a Russian 3 point sling? There's only one attachment hook and the damn thing can't come apart so I can thread it through the rear loop. I have no idea how to secure the rear end of this sling, especially on my poly folder. What do?
>not *complete* shit
>less than $800
Why is an AK that meets this criteria so hard to find? Am I just being retarded?
Are you sure you can't un-thread the sling through the belt clasp to get it straight, thread it through the swivel on your stock, and then thread it back through the belt clasp?
Post some pics of your sling so we can help you, faggot.
5.45 is still kinda not really accepted yet, so manufacturers I think are only testing the waters with those guns and parts are relatively expensive because it's more niche. Just my theory. Give it time and I think more will become available.
SAR-2 / WASR-2
The first you'll have to convert if you want a correct rifle but it'll be closer to compliant if you live in a communist state. The latter is just the newer importations of the same gun, scary features and all. Picked my first SAR-2 up for $350 in the early 2000's and I just bought a WASR-2 for a little less than eight last February.
Here's a pic. I have a few more if needed. I can't thread it because there's a big metal stud that the leather strap hooks onto and that stud won't go through the buckle.
You were warned not too. Even a UTG rail would have been better than a Midwest Industries counterfeit. You could have saved up your allowance for a few more weeks and bought something nicer instead of having to buy a new rail.
Get a DDI instead. I've already been down that road with Atlantic and the new 2015 wasrs are just as fucked up as the old ones, they just have nicer wood.
I assure you, you'll end up regretting it if you cheap out on a WASR over spending just a teeny bit more for the DDI.
Have you considered the fact that the vast majority of people don't go on the internet and talk about the problems that their products don't have? You see a thread talking about problems and the few dozen people is enough to justify your confirmation bias that everyone has a problem rather than just a small percentage of the total consumer base.
Enjoy your review of a cherry-picked gun.
Go fucking ask any of the big online dealers yourself about the quality of current WASRs. The honest ones will tell you up front to expect canted gas blocks, front sight blocks to the point that the FSP must be all the way to the left or right, wobbly mag wells, guns filled with metal shavings (in the barrel, in the gas tube, all in the action, under the furniture) from the mag-well opening, extremely rough rails, and the channels in the carrier looks like it was milled with a dremel.
Better yet, go to your LGS and fingerfuck their WASRs. If you know what you're looking for, you're going to find something wrong with all of them.
Mine had none of those issues, my buddies' has no issues, the ones i handled in the gun store had no issues.
Why do you hate WASRs so much? Your overpriced arsenal has some canting?
I already posted in this very fucking thread how I've owned both an Arsenal and a fucking WASR and both were shit. I even posted a fucking picture of the Arsenal.
You should go post here instead: http://www.taurusarmed.net/
You'll find many like-minded poorfags in that hugbox.
>You don't agree with me so I want you to leave.
Why don't you go find a hugbox of your own if people calling you out on your bullshit bothers you so much? Pic related, my AKs.
Do you think I'm samefag arguing with myself or something?
I got a WASR last month and it's perfectly fine as well. No metal shavings, sights were very slightly canted, but the thing shot a tight as fuck group at 75 yards with just iron sights.
My WW AK-74 keeps jamming up. Its like the mags arent seating right and when the bolt slides forward it digs into the next round in the mag, or sometimes it picks up the next round and STILL digs.. hasn't done this before.
Just got back from the range a day ago ill clean it and see if that helps it cycle. But if not wut do? If anyone is interested I'll post pics of the problem.
>mfw after the 30th time it jammed with the same problem at the range I just gave up, bought ice cream (I always buy ice cream after range day) and went home enraged at myself for not being able to figure it out immediately
Last try. Does anyone have any idea on how to rig up this sling to my SLR? I can't figure out how to attach the back end, nor can I unthread it because of large metal studs. Any ideas? It is a Russian military 3 point sling.
Yeah, I love it. I got it from some Russian guy on eBay.
I got it from Ammo and Arms' gunsamerica page. Really pleasant people to buy from and it came with the top rail included so it was a damn good price.
He charged me $150 for the conversion. Hell of a better price then I could find anywhere else and he doesn't live too far away from me.
Where do you guys get bakelite magazines from? I really want a few bakelite magazines and a bayonet because mine is really lacking.
Also are those romanian 75 round drums worth buying?
I'm going to be purchasing a 74 soon and I'm stuck between an Arsenal slr104 and a DDI.
Any difference in the metal stock and the polymer aside from the obvious? (i.e. weight, plastic vs metal, etc.) I've watched reviews and have drawn my own conclusions, but I'd like to hear from someone with some actual experience and not the sugar coated youtube experience.
Bro just got this MAK-90 in a trade for a Mini-14. I'm jelly as shit.
I'd wait till the DDI comes out. While folders are a nice option to have, chances are you are going to leave it unfolded all the time anyhow. I'd go with the poly stock if you are never going to fold it, triangle if you want to use the folding option more.
also check for cant like you would with a WASR with Arsenals now. Their QC has gone to shit.
They will be build on Classic Arms bulgy build kits using DDI green mountain barrels and nitride finish. I would expect similar finish to their 7.62 offerings and decent accuracy.
Other than that we just have to wait.
Those already went on classicfirearms, and sold out. Sold out within 4 days or so.
Unless this is something different.
> tfw still waiting
And has Arsenal quality really fallen off that much?
Maybe I should just buy the amd-65 instead
No it hasn't fallen that bad. These people are shilling hard for DDI. Cuz much America. There guns are still mostly part kits minus the barrel.
I'd still rather pay less and get an Arsenal thats milspec and proven.
You found a good deal. Most people don't find one like that.
>look at me im on the internet making claims that I got a good deal
>so what if you cant get the same deal
Not him but I seriously do not see any reason to buy ddi guns, even if they are good quality.
There's so much you get for just ~$100 more when you get an arsenal it's not even funny
They still have to convert the trigger guard area and trigger group, as well as plug up any holes on them, all im saying is how people are retarded for believing them as "milspec" aks when when there just converted rifles any other bubba can do.
Youre still retarded for not being able to look on the internet
well you get more consistent build quality and excellent customer service for one.
>using the folding stocks on Arsenals
that is honestly the only thing Arsenals have going for them over DDI. that and the slightly better barrel, but DDIs are reported to be more accurate.
Okay so go buy:
Well Arsenal will be banned by trump when he becomes president so your only choice will be DDI. Mine as well get in at the ground level.
ahhhh..... I remember that abomination and the fuckin hour it took to get it on the gun....
easiest thing is take the two screws off the stock side, and then take the metal loop(if its not welded together) and thread it thru the sling where it needs to go.
otherwise, you have to turn that rectangle piece of metal sideways to fit thru the other one, and it will stress you the fuck out. at least getting it back in is easier than taking it apart.
I dont recall what those slings were called, or why they were used, but they did have some purpose besides a regular 2 point sling.
U.S bound saiga rifles aren't even made by izhmash, they are assembled by Legion which is izhmashs civilian department, so they aren't even made in a real military factory.
The SLR's are made and assembled in a military factory.
I get my choke and my break in tomorrow, thinking about some tactical skeet skeet skeet shooting
Military rifles from Russia were banned in the early 1990s, it's been discussed here several times, just ask flandre.
Saigas are civilian hunting rifles, made and assembled by Legion in Russia, on different parts, and machines then the actual izhmash plant.
Just look up the mutual restraint agreement of 1998.
SVTs SKS, and other military rifles were banned from import after that, saigas were hunting rifles that's the only way they got in.
Saigas were shit compared to bulgy guns anyway, they are advertised as painted over park, most don't have park under the paint, their civilian quality is no where close to their military.
The last actual Izhmash guns to come in were the SVD's.
Have fun, I've been doing it for years.
How are you going to hold mags and ammo? I strap this over my shoulder and hang it at my right hip. It holds ~50rds in the pouch section, 4 mags, and all 3 chokes in the little pockets inside.
Trump likes Putin. Putin has noted in Russian media he would like to negotiate with Trump. Izhmash took a heavy hit losing the US market and Putin might throw lifting the sanctions on the table.
Oh my thanks for the help! Yea this thing is a bastard and I'm at the point where I'm just gonna give up for a while. There's just no wiggle room with it and I can't get it to unthread for the life of me. Wow, what a fucking piece of disaster equipment.
Hey, I want to buy myself AK, since I am from post-soviet country. Is Beryl any good? How does it stack up against other AKs?
The Beryl Archer (imported by I.O) seems to be great, grab one if you can find it.
I don't own one so I can't contribute anything about their reliability, but from what I've heard all I.O. did was import it, so hopefully that means they didn't fuck the rifle with cast parts or shit barrels.
Magazines will be rather expensive and hard to find, you'll also have to figure out which ones fit (not all 5.56 mags are compatible with certain 5.56 AKs IIRC).
All of the above is why most people recommend you buy a WASR or something else slightly more minimal for a first AK.
autism is limited by property, i can only shoot suppressed in my back yard cause of the no shooting in city limits laws that only white people seem to care about. can I fuck your sister?
Trying to install my MOE handguard to my RAS and that shit won't even start engaging the trunnion. I looked and think it's because of those two dimples on each side of the handguard.
Is it supposed to just install with those dimples there? I've watched videos of installs and they kinda just bash it in, but I can't seem to do it. Otherwise I'll take a file to those dimples.
>more and more states reducing restrictions on concealed carry
>Federal court rulings on unconstitutionality of certain gun control stipulations and outright bans
>more and more republicans elected in local/state governments
>republicans still slated to win 2016 and subsequent scotus nominations
AKG, I need help.
I'm trying to press off the FSB for my SLR104-UR to drill out the gas port restrictor.
This motherfucker refuses to come out.
Soaked it in PB penetrator, used a 20 ton press (albeit I don't have a proper jig, but it deformed three pennies and my punch without budging), and held a propane torch on it til it was about 800F.
It hasn't moved a micrometer. What am I doing wrong?
Yes, I took the barrel pins out.
And as if it wasn't small enough already...
Getting a job soon, anyone with ideas what next gun purchase should be? Dunno if should get a pistol and go for a Makarov, or a Ruger LCR or a good pistol in 9mm or .45 or 40S&W to convert to .357 Sig? Or attempt to purchase a Tantal in 5.45 or a Vepr in 6.5 Grendel or 7.62x54R? A Saiga in .410 or 12 gauge? What do?
>Or attempt to purchase a Tantal in 5.45 or a Vepr in 6.5 Grendel or 7.62x54R?
I think either would be awesome, I'd love to track down and buy a non-century tantal, an original wz88 with chromed barrel...
>A Saiga in .410 or 12 gauge?
a saiga 410 would be neat, but why not a vepr12?
Oh I'm good on savings, and this is the time of year where the jobs are getting good for new hires. Course I won't blow entire paycheck but keep aside a few bills and tip money for fun investments. It sucks but that I got 3 other more important stuff to invest in first but that's life.
Basically this and this, making a list and I already have a pistol and rifle, maybe I should get that Vepr 12, or maybe I should fix my teeth instead?
I think you meant, you just wanted a cheap rifle to shoot 762x39 from.
If you wanted an ak and you bought a vz, you dun fucked up. Even though I personally like the vz2008 better than aks near it's price range, if it's not what you wanted, you have no one to blame but yourself.
I used to own an SAR-1, i sold it and built an A4 clone, i want another AK to fuck around with.
I want a solid stock (wood preferrably), no frills AK, I would jump on another SAR 1 in a heartbeat,
but i want something more easily available, what should i get /akg/? My buying power is a Calico
M100P that i want to trade, so budget around ~850.
Does anybody know what kind of rear sight this is? I found it in a 2014 AK Buyer's Guide I had lying around in an article on PBS-1 and PBS-4 suppressors. It looks much different from the special rear sights sued with PBS-1 suppressors on AKMSs. I thought it might be some special sight for use with grenade launchers, but I couldn't find any proof of this.
I had my new Arsenal out for the first time today for break in and sight in. It shoots very well and aside from the trigger (which feels like the creepy old stock trigger on my Saiga), the rifle is outstandingly smooth. I only have 2 questions, though...
1.) Is it natural for the gas/residue to blow back a bit from the brake and make my FSB sooty?
2.) I was shooting a broken down microwave (found it there, it was laying on its side) and it was mostly metal and some plastic. The shots tumbled after the first layer of metal and went sideways through the roof and extra layer of metal above the microwave roof. Is it natural for this round to tumble that fast? I have only limited experience with 5.45 and even much less in testing it. So far, I really like the cartridge, though. Its 60 gr. Silver Bear, by the way.
1) yes, and it's also normal to get a really nasty layer of carbon buildup on the crown over time
2) it's going to tumble, as long as you don't see keyholes on the entry shot then it's fine. even 50 cal will tumble, pic related after going through a windshield
also it's a shame that the trigger is the worst part of the rifle, grab an ALG trigger and it's a huge improvement.
545 surplus and 60grain both tumble extremely fast, I think I'd give the 60 gr the edge though from what I've seen.
Out of curiosity though what is bad with IO's and Century AK's?
Century is fine now and WASRs are actually made by them. Before 2008 they had some QC problems. IOs, however, are the shittiest you can get. Gas ports drilled incorrectly, out of spec parts, exploding guns, you name it. They had a promotional meeting with a bunch of media folks and the test guns they got to fire had a bunch of problems.
This is one anon's wasr that i saved times ago
its barrel is 12.4 inch long....just like the ak104.
As for Jim Fuller from Rifle Dynamics, the best barrel length for an AK in 7.62x39
