I just accidentally fired my gun in my car while parked outside my house in my neighborhood.
What's the likelihood that one of my neighbors heard it?
Mississippi but residential with a bunch of kids so idfk.
I didn't even know that was a fucking thing. And yeah I am and I do.
Absolutely deserve that.
>best city in the world
>people desensitized by shots fired
right, san francisco has mass shootings hourly.
but basically they're constantly being recorded 24/7? Thanks big bro!
Your probably fine. Pistol rounds are pretty quiet in a real world environment. If people heard it, it would have just sounded like a pop. I hope you learned your lesson though, could have been mutch worse. So keep your damn booger hook of thr fucking trigger unless you mean to hit a target or kill somone.
Well there's the kicker.
I intentionally pulled the trigger. I had ejected the magazine and unloaded the round in the chamber but somehow like a god damn idiot didn't notice the round not actually eject and find its way back into the slide.
I'm literally still looking for it but if you keep this thread alive I'll post it when I find it.
Don't know why the fuck someone would like about something so fucking idiotic.
I'm not exactly the only one who does this.
Also found the "hole." It didn't make a hole really but it pierced the foot-rug and the fabric layer underneath. Don't know if you can make it out in this.
I live in Orange County and I called the police after hearing a mysterious pop
>me: "I heard a pop and I have no idea if it was a gun or a backfire, is there any way to tell what it was or where it came from?"
>operator: "No, not really, even fireworks can sound the same. We can only infer a general vicinity if we get multiple calls. We'll send cars to go check it out, but they have to drive around and just look and listen."
whelp, that shit isn't in my city, and current methods are pretty damn low tech, OP you're probably fine, especially since it was only one shot. bet it was pretty scary though lol
I was in shock for 2 seconds followed by immediately being ungodly pissed at myself for being so fucking stupid.
Honestly it didn't hurt nearly as much as I expected it to. I was deaf for a good 5 minutes but it just gave me a slight ear ache. The only other time I've heard a round go off without hear protection was a judge 357 at the range when my friend didn't know the back door was open. That hurt unbelievably bad.
Bonus cig burn that left more of a mark than the 9mm.
honestly that damage is pretty disappointing. I thought cars weren't actually good cover, but you found your bullet which didn't even make it through carpet? wtf is underneath there? kinda smelly desu
stop looking for it. Close your fucking car door. Walk inside and pretend nothing happened.
The shot probably sounded like someone slamming a car door closed, that is if you have a newish car, newish cars have incredible sound insulation.
I only found the casing and where I'm assuming it went through but I'm confused as to why the hole is so small. If I spread it with my fingernails it's about half the diameter of the caliber. Shouldn't it be at least 9mm big?
I just now went back. As soon as I fired it I grabbed the casing which was on my passenger seat no where near where the barrel was pointed and went inside. Went back out after anon asked for picture. My roomate is sound asleep and my windows were all closed so I'm guessing I'm okay. Car is 2004 ford winstar.
So shouldn't I see/feel relevant pic somewhere underneath the carpet? Because I don't.
>Bonus cig burn that left more of a mark than the 9mm.
Oh wow. IT would be so easy to generate false positives for that. And just as easy to circumvent with subsonic ammo, even without a suppressor.
They have that sound thing in my neighborhood and have for fucking years. Cops cameaknockin and youngin me answered the door told them I didn't hear anything. Went back inside and stopped blowing stuff up the rest of the day. This was like 15 years ago...
Or maybe they just heard the gunshot from nearby?
>It detects subsonic rounds
At what distance? because if it does. then that makes it even easier to generate false positives.
Britfag here, yep. I know most of th large cities in england have them, not sure if Scotland, Wales or NI use them.
That's why they would work best paired with persistent surviellance Blimps (wide area coverage) & police drones (fast response to assertain if maned unit is required & provide better camera coverage than the blimp: give it 5-10 years and it wll be near standard for cities.
Welcome to the future citizen, now about that can...
Bonus: when will the cops start using armed drones (gun not missile)?
There's pretty much only one way for that "system" to work.
It's just an array of microphones. Even if they have an algorithm to sort out noise, if they are really tracking amplitudes as low as subsonic pistol or rifle fire then you could set it off by walking near it.
Probably don't go too in-depth because they don't have a system that deep.
It likely picks up false readings all the time. Car accidents, construction, garbage trucks, etc. What they'd be listening for is multiple shots fired since this is a distinctive repeating sound pattern.
>I thought cars weren't actually good cover,
Cars are actually REALLY good cover. There's a reason why when the cops shot at the Toyota with two Asian women in them in LA, the two Asian women survived: There's a SHITLOAD of stuff in cars that cause bullets to go sideways or stuck before hitting any place else.
That said, OP should check if his bullet got lodged in an internal part of the car. If there's any damage to the system, the car might be dangerous to drive.
Back when I was younger, (AKA 3 years ago...), I fired a 26.5mm green flare out of a Polish army flare pistol in a preppy neighborhood. (It was the only place with a large lake to fire it over. Didn't want to accidentally burn down a forest). It was as loud as you'd expect but the cops were never actually called. I assume that they thought it was just a firework.
I don't have the empty casing or the gun on hand atm.
Basically, you're fine if no one physically saw it op.
>There's a SHITLOAD of stuff
Engine block, windows. That's it. In short, shooting through the car front-to-back (or vice versa) a car will realistically protect. Side-to-side? Nope, that bullet will zip right through.

You're not responsible enough to own firearms. Please turn them in to your nearest /k/ommando before you hurt yourself or others.
We have this system on Long Island in some of the higher crime towns.
Works well since PD is usually within minutes of any incidents.
This actually can pinpoint the spot to help get them there faster.
>Sounds like a pop
Fucking no. It is so easy to tell the difference between a gunshot and other noises. If you hear something that sounds like a gunshot, you mostly just go "was that a gunshot? Nah..", but you know when someone's shooting, it's very distinct
ND, in your fucking car? How?
Not joking here, you shouldn't own a gun. Sell it or get rid of it.
To answer you question, someone probably heard it, but 90% chance noone will call the cops.
Sell your gun, because you're a retard
How the fuck did you ACCIDENTALLY fire your gun? Did you accidentally put your finger around the trigger and accidentally squeeze it?
That's a funny way to say "Negligently", you tremendous faggot.
