So I'm a bit confused here.
These things were made to make the gun easier to carry, though from what I've heard if anyone in the army attempted to hold one by the handle the DI's would absolutely shit on them.
Why the fuck do that have carrying handles in the first place then?
US doctrine regarding the way you carry rifles has changed is all. Not that most rifles are outfitted with carry-handle irons these days anyway. Back in the day, you could carry them by the carry handle and no one would bat an eye. I have images of the old manuals that mentioned it somewhere, but I'm too lazy to find them.
the handle is something thats a hold over from semi-stationary weapons
Bar's, Saw's, any heavy mg. or lmg
when they put them on anything thats not above its pointless. they are so they can be droped and ready to go. the 2ps is not practicle for them
but for any battle rifle the 2ps is
only 'murica went full autistic and screamed at boots using the carry handle, my guess is to keep retards from muzzle flagging everyone. the carry handle for the m16/m4 was a carry over from the original design when it had a top mounted charging handle.
seems to be only instructors got anal about it and once you got in the field zero fucks were given unless you had a old salty top who felt the need to nitpick about stupid shit, as for other rifles/countries people use them because thats what it was designed for and their weapons training wasnt full blown autismo like in the us. as for why? because they're retarded and its retards with the same logic that made white glove weapon inspections standard practice. its metal on metal m8 shit needs lube fuck your clean gun rules
autism and muzzle flagging
Just FYI from a muhreen.
The carry handles on the M240 or M249 are not carry handles. They're for swapping the barrel, cause obviously your not gonna touch a hot barrel.
The M16 carry handle is a carry over from the previous design, but it also made sense cause it made use of the already high iron sights. Not having the handle would be a waste of space on the top of the rifle. Obviously this was before pic rails.
>only 'murica went full autistic and screamed at boots using the carry handle
Because of Nam chuckle nuts.
When you're in war, unless you're at base or in a vehicle, your hand should always be on the grip ready to go in case of an ambush. That 5 seconds needed to hold your rifle properly, shoulder it and aim did infact kill retarded soldiers.
Same thing happened in Afghanistan because guess what? Guerilla war fighters don't care if you're not ready, if they see everybody is standing around, jacking off with one hand using the other to carry their rifle, are they not going to take the advantage?
The DI's from Nam came back, having seen other dipshits getting specifically targeted for doing that shit and went on their own crusade because war is war, not a place to get lazy when you're out in the field.
that's strange to me, because I always saw it as like a beret fro the rifle folded over the side.
The handle on the SAW and 240 isnt a carrying handle, its so you can remove a hot barrel without special gloves. If you carry it around by that youll eventually fuck up your recievers ability to properly set headspace when you insert a barrel.
This. My infantry battalion didnt allow slinging your rifle on your back even stateside because of that.
You get shot at all the sudden youre fumbling for your rifle and getting tangled in the sling like a dipshit cuz adrenaline erases fine motor control.
you are stupid as fuck.
Tell me why 240 handles have a specific latch/trigger that orients the handle into a vertical position.
Tell me why 249 handles are angled so that the SAW is balanced if someone where to carry it?
Confirmed for being straight out of basic.
This. The NTSV has its handle comfortably under the barrel so no one is too stupid to use it as a carry handle. The Russians sure know how to teach dumbfucks how to war.
>he thinks 1/4 steel breaks because it lifts ~15lbs.
its a fucking carry handle, it isnt even a functional part of the weapon
Ok, have it your way pal, fuck do I even know about western stuff anyway.
I only speak out of experience of having carried this shitter around for an eternity. The barrel is the fun part, the gun itself is shitty, the tripod is the worst hell I saw in training.
If its a carry handle as you say, then why isnt it attached to the reciever, and in such a position that all the weight of the weapon is suspended from the chamber and the gas regulator?
Because its not a carry handle. Its a barel change assist handle, the military just calls it a carry handle because its less of a mouth full that "barrel assebly group extraxtion assist handle" I carried SAWs and 240s for 4 years. Its a boot/pog stamp to think its okay to carry it by the handle because doing so transfers all the weight/stress/shocks directly into the lock that determines head space.
When inserting a barrel it should click 3 to 7 times as it locks in. If you pick up a saw that doesnt click, or clicks 30 times it not only doesnt have proper headspace, its been worn the fuck out by some dipshit who thinks its okay to carry it like that.
Forward grip? Does it count as a pistol grip if is above? If not I want to see someone doing all manner of tactical drills using a BAR while gripping the carry handle in a ban state.
Its not about breaking the handle. Its about fucking up headspace. But hey, feel free to carry the full weight of your gun in a leverage position with all the torque on your headspace setting mechanism and chamber.
Just dont be suprised when that bitch blows its top cover off because its firing out of battery.
Why does the 240s "quick change barrel blah blah" handle rotate into a vertical position using a specific button engineered for that specific purpose. Ive been an armorer, Ive turned tons of these shits in carrying four 240s at a time. Not once has any person at any higher form of maintenance corrected me because they also use the fucking carry handle.
If you headspaced is fucked its because you have a shit armorer who dosnt do his fucking job and shit commander for not making everyone do their weekly PMCS for his weapons.
desu if you rifle has some podlegs and a carry handle it makes getting up from the prone and go alot easier.
as seen in
Shut up pog. Leave field craft to the professionals.
Have fun pretending what you do in an armory has any relevance in the field beyond being a glorified parts ordering clerk/gun cleaner.
Can't remember if the KvKK handle was the only actual carry handle around, but the weapon itself is an utter clusterfuck in itself (who the hell even makes a mg that breaks in two separate parts in disassembly). The thing is better used as a nunchuck.
Yes, because weapon design and innovation stopped mid 40s. Maybe a part of a gun has more than one use, think of that? The M9 has the extractor double as a loaded chamber indicator, you should know this, so it's reasonable to assume a part had more than one job.
That handle can bend and break off, it won't stop the weapon from firing or lose the headspace. The 240 recognised this with the fact the handle can lock in place or swivel. If it was just used to change the barrel, then why have it swivel at all?
If you are a marine, it's not your fault, you were taught that way, but that's because marines have a ton of rules and regulations that are just there to make you comply and force learn.
tell me all about that time you pulled the release that rotates the carry handle upward so it can more evenly distribute the weight of the weapon so that it may be more easily carried.
Lololol.. FN Mag 58 gunner here.. Been carrying it around like dat for 2,5 years, and previous gunners carried my gpmg same way for +10 years.. Nothings broken, and barrel stays solid.. Even old fn manual says its proper way to carry it. So muhreen pls...
Who the fuck would carry it by the carry handle on patrol? Fuckin Christ, you're not always operating operationally, carry it around like that to move it to the humvee or the armory is way more comfortable than holding it at low ready or whatever you did in the marines.
Wild operator appears. Have fun with your shit knees, fake ptsd, shitty attitude, and sense of entitlement. Without people behind the line feeding you, clothing you, arming you, and supporting you in evry way imagineable, you would be nothing more than a raghead with a slavshit gun and and very little to none shit training. Even if you actually served in the military on the front lines which I doubt, you didn't do anything that millions of other people haven't also done; so shut your stupid whore mouth and let the grown ups talk if you can't actually add to the discussion. Anything you say at this point will just make me kek.
TL;DR you are not a special snowflake and most likely a JROTC washout.
Tell that to the parents of Sandy Hook. That's an assault baby massacring stabilization device. Allows you to kill a schoolyard of chilluns without any recoil.
>also a shoulder thing that goes up
Carry handles are fucking stupid just wear a fucking sling and you have better sights. Are you fucking retarded white glove checks are to make sure the gun is clean, lube Isn't black when you trust your life to a tool you fucking maintain it and treat it like gold.
Hey army small arms instructor here.
The handle on the 240 is BOTH to carry and change barrels, depending on if you use the release latch or not. (release latch on handle allows it to rotate into carrying position).
The SAW should absolutely never be carried by the handle. First, SAWs are shit and they don't need an excuse to break. The handle will break off, and yes, the headspace can get fucked. (source: multiple annoying firsthand experiences). Second, I've watched several saws get dropped when carried by that handle when the barrel falls off. (latch gets bumped or barrel was improperly seated)
Well, thats just a piece of shit attached to another piece of shit.
For LMG/MMG/HMGs these days (including the PKM) the handle is for barrel swapping. If you carry the whole gun by the handle it fuck up one way or the other, but you can still do it safely most of the time.
If a carry handle is affixed to the receiver, especially on rifles like the FAL, it is for carrying and convenience sake. This also applies to the Galil and BAR, idea being you carry the gun with one hand and a ammo can in the other for when you setup at a new pos (the BAR is kind of an anomaly as the handle is affixed to the barrel but it isn't removable).
>that one muhreen who thinks the FN MAG will break if you carry it by its carrying handle
Canada fag here. I've never heard of not using the carrying handle of the C6 or C9
I'm just going to say that it would take a really special kind of stupid to put a handle right at the balance point of a rifle, with finger grips and everything . . . but intend for nobody to ever use it to carry the thing or it might break it and cause the rifle to explode.
Occams razor - it's a carry handle. It just is illogical to assume a designer would be so insanely retarded as to intend otherwise.
Original design had the charging handle above the receiver and the handle was there to protect it. The charging handle was then moved to the rear of the receiver on the later models as debris would get in the opening in the top for the handle.
The handle and sights stayed at their previous height as the original buffer design prevented the comb of the stock from being lowered.
When you are prone shooting, you can get up in a hurry, and quickly grab the carry handle and continue your movement.
>NOT A SINGLE FAMAS IN A THREAD ABOUT CARRYING HANDLES

pic related, a few weeks ago some army guys went into a school for a "discovery day" of what's the army is about. Then they let the kids form a firing line to show them how it is to train with the guns as a soldier. Guns were unloaded of course.
Still soccer moms and leftists thought it was unacceptable and at least a french officer was fired over this, while this kind of tour wasn't even a new thing in the school.
Meanwhile, isis operates in suburbs.
Time to use the surrender sticks and surrender handle I guess !
