looking to build a mk12 mod 1, is pic related a good lower?
if it's not a totally correct clone i will make fun of you
Got a proper crush washer waiting for me in VT...if I ever fucking get back there, that is.
1913 and a decade old mil contract scope design are retro, right?
Fuck the police.
Think, I'll go take some new pictures today...
>Thicker than expected
But yeah, that's what I ordered.
I have an Anderson upper matched to an Aero lower and the finish on the Anderson looks like it was paper mache'd in place... They don't look the same and it bugs me. I'm hoping it wears into a better look
>Thicker than expected
i can't wait to make fun of you some more
It's not so much that it malfunctions or that it's bad, it's just a strange rough truck liner looking finish, rather than the usual metal look on gun parts. It works well, and for $30 I bought it for, it will kill just the same.
Still need to get an A1 lower for my A1 upper for a proper A1
>1 x PTAC AR15 Pistol 7.5" Upper w/ Sig Brace & 3 Magazines brand new for $750. Should I do it? Would be my first AR.
Nah. Never buy PTAC. Build your own, you can pick out exactly what you want and putting it together is fun.
Add an Anderson lower from your local gun shop for about ~$70 and you're sitting pretty at $675. Spend $30 for three PMAGs and you're in business. $50 less and measurably nicer.
I'll just grind it until it isn't, nog. If it's "thicker than expected" at all.
>This washer is almost 1/4" thick, way more than I imagined.
Did you have eyes, Ole Outlaw?
>it is meaty.
Mk18 MOD 0 might as well be retro these days. They're modern classics.
They are pretty shit.
What is the best 80% lower out there?
>inb4 buy a finished lower
This image is from circa 1967. Look at the sexy tri point hider.
I don't know much about /k/ or ARs but I've grown up hunting and own multiple pistols, shotguns, and deer rifles.
My question is how hard is it to finish an 80% lower and build my own? I've watched some videos and found some jigs to purchase online.
I was just wanting to hear from some actually experienced people.
It seems like a super interesting project.
The entire point of an 80% is no FFL fee, no serial, and no roll mark.
Most big brands won't make 80%'s because then they don't get to advertise their brand on the side.
Pretty easy. It just takes a while.
Go slow or you'll fuck it up.
Quad rails and acog are retro as fuck.
Why are you faggots bitching about Anderson lowers?
Okay, that's what it's looking like.
I found some templates and jigs on 80percentarms.com
I'll probably get that and try to follow it.
Especially since they say you can use a hand drill with their templates, since I don't own a mill.
You can use a drill press too, you'll get straighter holes. There's one on Amazon right now I'm looking at if I can't get my grandpa's old craftsman press to work
Everything I've read points to the cage hider being one of the definitive changes requested by the Army prior to the adoption/designation of the A1.
Retro is whatever I say it is.
Right after the change those, and other components the Army deemed necessary to change, were set aside for civilian (read; SP-1) production.
Not saying there was never an A1 with a three-prong, just that if you see what otherwise looks like an A1 without a cage hider, it's a safe bet to assume it's an XM16E1.
Slightly more retro since I last posted it.
Watch the lower finishing videos, my man. You can do that with a drill press vice.
I like that press because it looks a little better quality than Harbor Fraud for roughly the same price
> probably went to the army first
Thanks for the link, I've been wanting to get into building things. Need to get a hobby besides just school work.
Need to see what other stuff I could make with this sucker.
I've got about $500 dollars to play around with right now.
How much more effective at hiding flash is one of these than an A2?
RIS II came in today, it's a lot lighter than I expected. Should be really nice once it's on the rifle.
Aimpoint came too, but the mailman didn't leave it with the rail for whatever reason, so I've gotta pick it up tomorrow, and hopefully I can squeeze in a range trip to get it zeroed this weekend.
mfw one was for sale a while ago
Are there any numbers or tests to back this up? I was gonna pull the trigger on a barreled carbine upper for my build but I wanted to read about the pros and cons a bit more
PUT THE DIRECTIONS ON HOW YOU DID THAT PAINTJOB IN THE FUCKING BOX AND BACK AWAY!
>Are there any numbers or tests to back this up? I was gonna pull the trigger on a barreled carbine upper for my build but I wanted to read about the pros and cons a bit more
something like this
You put the rifle somewhere and then you spraypaint it. I don't even think he did multiple layers, it's all one color.
Also what the fuck is wrong with your ceiling
It's not a matter of if it'll fit, it's dwell time and general reliability. Midlength on a 14.5" already starts getting a little picky with ammo, 11.5" really increases your chances of gas issues with cheaper, lighter ammo.
I'd say it's a tossup between midlength and carbine gas at 14.5". Shorter should use Carbine, and longer should use midlength, at least in my opinion.
My brother did that while I was deployed, love 'em too much to tell him it looks like shit.
What paint? what prep? I did this one and well... It wore really quickly, although I don't mind the worn look I want that color more than anything. Makes my dick hard looking at it.
Why'd you delete your post bruh, I thought your AR looked bretty gud
You can, but you've gotta break the weld, and remove the pin, which if not done right can destroy the muzzle device.
Basically you can, but it's a big ol' pain in the ass, so choose right the first time.
You are right but also kind of wrong.
Uppers are 100% unregulated, you can do whatever you want to the upper as long as it isn't attached to a non SBR/pistol lower until the OAL of the barrel has been returned to at least 16"
Guess I should pick a 16" barrel for babbys first AR build then
Or just get a 14.5" and pick a good flash hider you won't want to replace and get it pinned.
I sorta want a 13.30" barrel with a pinned 2.75" BE Meyer 249f but I also sorta just want an SBR, hard to decide.
When you can throw together a basic AR for less that $500 that will function fine there's no killing them. Especially not with something that starts out at $1200
>mfw my buddy said the ARAK-21 was the gun that was going to kill the AR
This is a retarded false narrative.
Nobody is putting out anything new, it's either similar to an AK/SIG, or it's similar to an AR18.
The only neat new stuff is in the bullpup world.
I think the deserttech carbine is really neat because it has a forward located mag release instead of a rearward located one.
It's the only one where you can drop mag and grab the replacement at the same time.
K2s aren't on the market, I only meant theoretically if they made a new one that had a flat top and some provision for AR handguards or something. (not sure how though, their barrels don't screw on)
So you can practice retention and non retention reloads with different releases if grab and rip tactical reloads are your thing but drop and grab empty reloads are also your ting.
>gas block arrives friday
i should have paid for overnight shipping but it's ok, i can be strong and wait 2 days.
With something small like that it's not worth it. Overnight is best for stuff you don't want floating around.
it's only $20 for overnight plus when i get it, it will start raining aging so i won't be able to take pics.
do you have NVGs for use with the peq15?
Not yet, building a kit maybe. Price was too good on this one to say no
>they don't have BCM watches
yeah probably. I mean my Zenit stuff was engineering tools
Maratac SR1 here
i am legitimately considering buying one as well
but it would suck to scratch it up at work
up to you really.
15" if you want maximum sight radius
13" if you want something a bit lighter.
also depends on how you feel about barrels sticking out past the handguards. I don't like it
Building babbies first AR
>Anderson Stripped lower
>PSA QMS LPK
>Brownells carbine buffer assembly
>B5 SOPMOD Bravo stock
>Aero Precision stripped upper
>DPMS upper parts kit
>BCM 14.5" mid length Barrel
>AIM v2 Nitride BCG
>Type 89 J-Comp
>Midwest Industries gas block
>Midwest Industries Gen 3 M-lok 12" rail
>Magpul MBUS Pro front and rear
>Magpul M-lok Vertical Grip
Not sure what optic I want yet but it'll probably be a PA Advanced. Then I'll probably get a light of some kind Overall price is at $1128 but I know I could go cheaper.
Mk12 is approaching retirement. Do I have to wait until 2018 to call it a retro?
where did i claim it was mine, faggot.
>is a faggot trip to boot
call the mods, I dont give a fuck
haha faggot autist
NNNNOOOO REEEEEE NO POSTING ANYTHING BUT THE SAME 5 PICS OF THE TRIPS RIFLES NOOO REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
eat shit fag. you are a child
i made the fucking OP
that's my rifle
posting images from arfcom while saying nothing is not contributing
im not posting anyones guns, im answering questions and engaging in conversation regarding AR's. you are posting pics from google without saying anything, that is shitposting and contributing nothing
rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee mmmmmmmmmmmmuhhhh FFEEEE FFFEEEEELSSSSSSSSSSSSss
oh noooooooooo i have upset a trip ohhhh fuck what shal i dooo d fuckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
which is how we end up with thread after thread of the same 3 pics from each trip, which is just fucking useless circlejerk.
btw, heres my mk18 pretty retro lol amirite boyz
HOLY SHI TU R A FUCKING GENIUOUS BROOIO HHOLY GUCF FUCK
not off polymer so easy
i just gave up on my scar and bought a new receiver and stock
is this from personal experience or are you just saying stuff that you read elsewhere? I ask because they're like the most common lower ever, which leads me to believe that they in fact function
he doesn't own any guns
he's just assblasted we told him to fuck off with shitting up the thread
now he's just trying to upset us
well it's probably because it was duracoated, then rattle canned
duracoat strips off anodizing really easy
but paint is an absloute pain to remove from any textured plastic
the upper is the serialized part
no it needs a scar stock
i should have just stuck with the way it was
>Swiss Made Chronograph Movement
>Doesn't actually say the movement or manufacturer
I did some quick research, looks like it's a rebranded Microtec, which is in turn a rebranded Traser, which means it's probably only using a Ronda 5030.D.
Mehhhh. It's not bad, just not my style and I definitely wouldn't pay $600 for it.
It's PVD and a sapphire crystal. It's probably not gonna scratch. The bigger issue is that...it's big. It's a 45mm x 52mm x 15mm, it's gonna stick out and you're probably gonna bang it on everything until you break it.
Paint, as in MS Paint. Take a closer look at that picture.
>cut barrel down from 16" to 12.5" or so so the MD is just beyond the edge of the handguard
>test for function and open gas port until its 100%
but i would love to see it tried
it's mid length isn't it?
Yeah, apparently people have made 12.5" middies function.
Result would be something like this, if I ever decide to get an ACOG.
because I'm waiting for my new lower before I do my new pattern.
Ah, went over my head.
Good thing I live in the land of 5 round magazines then :^)
It's not that painted/unpainted looks bad, it's just the patterns that are supposed to continue that stop that looks bad.
Like tigercamo or old woodland.
Or even any ddpat
If it's solid then stops that's different.
>I have an Anderson upper matched to an Aero lower and the finish on the Anderson looks like it was paper mache'd in place... They don't look the same and it bugs me. I'm hoping it wears into a better look
My biggest complaint. Not the finish itself, but that it doesn't match shit. Also, my hammer pin tries to walk out but that could be the PSA parts kit and not the lower.
doing retro spaghetti build. buy this yaes, or noe?
i just ordered KLMK and partizan
Sounds like he fits right in.
sure, if you're the type of person that also likes watching "the real housewives".
Heresy. All of it.
it's basically a mirror so it looks like what it reflects.
>cryptic cryptic on the wall, who's the biggest tripfag of us all
Why the fuck did everybody seem to get candy except me? I've bought 3 BCGs from them and never get any candy.
Hand-written Thank You cards? Yep, I got those a few weeks after each purchase, but not candy.
check if that spring in the hammer to keep the pin from walking fell out
even if the pins or holes are slighty over/undersized there should be enough spring tension to keep stuff from just falling out
That's from an 11.5" barrel, though.
the feed ramp in an ar is comprised of two parts, the ramp cut into the upper receiver and the barrel's extension.
rifle has a shallower angle.
m4 has a much deeper cut.
m4 extension with rifle upper is okay but not ideal.
m4 upper with rifle extension can prevent reliable feeding as the receiver's feed ramp runs into flat metal below where the rifle extension's ramp starts.
matching pairs are ideal. m4 extensions become more ideal the shorter gas system is as the rifle will feed more violently/in a shorter cycle.
I have one of those BCGs; no fancy coating tho.
Good taste there.
You could steal if off a grease gun
Hiding from someone else? Not very. If rotated right, could be good for the shooter. The reason they stopped using them tho was because the primary purpose behind the design was to act as a wire cutter. I.e, you shoot the rifle with the wire in the flash hider. Which was stupid because that's a really loud way to do something. Plus it kept getting tangled on shit. This is all from what I've heard and read. So sorry if it's bullshit
Quick question Triptard, where did you order pic related and what file did you use for the heart?
Totally going to order one for my AR.
Nothing wrong with AP but their msrp isn't lower than colt's or fn's market price. unless there's a real world 200+ savings, no one is going to care when you can build your own a4 on high-ish end parts for 800ish.
So like north Renton, South Seattle?
25 mins from Rainier, which makes pick ups easy. AP and Mega have no storefronts I'm aware of. Also, it pisses me off that you can't local pickup at SAA's online store.
M4A1, M16A2, M16A4
Will be building an M16A1 clone soon.
