Which Euro country has the absolute worst army and could easily be invaded by an average force like let's say Italy?
I'm thinking one of the microstates.
Assuming nobody backed them up, I don't think Lichtenstein actually has a military. I'm pretty sure they don't even have police, because Germany does that for them.
I think this is just taking the individual countries military.
In real life, if you invade any Western European country, NATO will cornhole you.
If you invade any Eastern European country, Russia will cornhole you, possible with NATO help.
So I'm just going off of no allies.
Sweden has a mobilization time of 1 year to field 50.000 soldiers.
Home guard has their weapons and ammo secured at the regiments.
So basically, if you can handle our version of SWAT you can have the country in a few hours if you wish.
And to think we once had the third largest airforce in the world...
Italy is shit tier for it's size.
I'd say it competes with militaries of countries the size of Belgium or Denmark (I know little about those countries' militaries, mind you, just giving a size estimate)
Is Belgium that bad? I thought better of them.
Jesus fuck Sweden. This just shows that besides maybe not even an hand full of Euro countries, we would get steam roll easly as fuck by the Ruskies/Chinks/Sandniggers. I'm not the biggest fan of some things about the US, but in what concerns having them getting our back in military, Godbless the USA!
Poor Italy then.
Belgo-Bro here, our armed forces are small and getting smaller every minute, though it's one of the few countries that can afford it, what with being the capital of NATO and the EU.
The Land Component is about 12k strong but has no armor at all.
The Air Component is what you'd expect from a US ally, f16 fighters and a few euro and american transports and trainers and such.
The Naval Component is... not a factor.
LOL basically every usa sof is trained in italy by COMSUBIN, Italy has the best sf in the world.
they suck so much due to extreme incompetence of the higher ranks.
individually italian soldiers are very good.
Austria is pretty fucking dismal at the moment.
>Few years ago they were thinking about scrapping all of their tanks because 'lol we could just have our infantry fall back to the Alps even though 80% of our population, infrastructure, and our capital aren't in the goddamn Alps.'
>Realized they couldn't even rescue people in a village stranded by a landslide because they had 0 helicopters.
>Air Force is ~5 planes.
I mean it makes sense since they've been a neutral country for over half a century, but it was chucklesome to hear about. Solid small arms though.
Germany is just fucking sad right now though. To go from being one of the most modern, well-equipped, and well-trained forces in the cold war to a state where you can't even afford to give all recruits real guns in training exercises and where Poland could wreck your shit in a matter of weeks is just disappointing.
Did someone forget their gun while leaning against a tree and the tree just grew into it like pic related
Don't worry Seattle, Snohomish County has enough guns to protect you. Between NAS Whidbey, the Everett Naval Bases, all of the naval support complexes and the surprisingly badass ANG around here, we have your back.
Man, if Seattle gets to bring JBLM then it's not remotely a fair fight.
Seattle has 13,000 police, about a dozen helicopters, several armored transports and patrol boats. And some crazy Boston cop running the place.
I don't think seattle would be under siege for very long if a super power tried to take it. the whole cascadia area is surround with just about every branch of the militia.
airforce airguard have the airspace on lockdown.
And Bangor on the peninsula. The Puget Sound is the worst place to attack on the west coast.
Probably iceland. I'm pretty sure they justifiably think that nobody is ever going to attack them. Ever.
There's actually quite a few gun shops around here, and our laws are really lax. You're thinking of San Fran.
it't not that bad they got some Leopard 2A4 about 50 and like maybee 150 more not ready for service
airforce is shit but it's small and neutral so probably ground to air def. would make more sense at all
dat feel when your ancestors defended the gates to europe for 400 years against islamic invaders paying with their blood and now the wont even build a fucking fence to keep em out
Nordic military power with funny polanballs.
Seconded for Ireland. Provided that nobody comes to our aid (UK, US,) we would be fucked in days.
No energy security of supply
Little food security
Couple coastal defence boats with awfully trained sailors.
Just the rangers, who'll fuck your shit up until you pound them with arty
>Is Belgium that bad? I thought better of them.
Biggest item on their defense budget goes is military pensions these days.
>Jesus fuck Sweden.
Their AF has 120 or so fighters and enough budget to keep half of 'em operational. Same thing with tanks.
When lieutenants are humping heavy weaponry... something might have been fucked up in military reform.
Fuck, Europe is a fucking sad place. Someone pls rekt the shit out of here so our politicians can maybe grow a pair. Americans should stop being our bodyguard and demand us to take care of ourselves.
Yeah right, we always have to get someone from other place to blame. It's not the nationals fault, it's against some nation 10k km far away that we should cry about. Keep telling that to yourself. It will see funny aee Europe burning once again in a couple of ten years.
You're a mad person, you should put that energy into protecting your country instead of crying about how Americans are the problem. If they hadn't come in first place Europe as we know wouldn't even exist you crybabby.
Just because you can't handle the truth you can't say that kind of thing like they're real you filthy kebab. I hope they turn their back on your country when you need it, that if you're even European and not an outsider piece of shit.
I think we have a european standard here in czech.
Infantry: 21k+ soldiers + 1300 in reserves 7.5k civilian personel
Armor: 30+93 tanks + 530 IFV/APCs + about 2k of other technicals like jeeps and trucks
Air force: 16 jet fighters 25 czech brrrrts and 17 atack helicopters + cca 60 other aircrafts
Navy: lel landlocked
I think that among mediterranean countries Italy is the strongest, decent airforce and a good fleet.
The average soldier would surrender easily but they got good SF to compensate with.
More realistically mericuns would do much of the job due to their strong presence in the country.
>A boy went to war in 1914
>Puget sound, WA
No American boys went to war in 1914 wtf
Can't really compare a professional army against a conscription based one.
They allied with the ottomans to fuck the russians. You know, during the war when every country close to Sweden banded together against it (and got fucked hard in the bumhole for it).
Yeah that story is fake and gay.
Remember though that late 1800s/early 1900 US had a ton of European immigrants and patriotism/dying for your county/glory were still seen as ideal - plenty of immigrants went back to Europe as volunteers.
>Couple coastal defence boats
So you ACTUALLY think an island is harder to defend than land locked countries even smaller, and even more poorly equipped than Ireland?
Or is your geography that shit that you just don't know any other countries in Europe?
You'll have to remember that Sweden's first line of defense is always Finland, and the last one, Norway. However, if you do attack them, you'll always gain Denmark as an allied force.
The entire bottom half of the country is entirely agrarian and whats left is almost as corrupt/unlikely to pay taxes as Greece.
Their governments rise and fall quicker than a 10 dollar hooker too.
How would these countries fare against an ISIS type issue? Let's say 10-15000 fighters within an area amongst the population, while they'd be no match in the open, they've ruined syria and ilm not sure how we'd go with ROE and whatnot.
Unless we could just evacuate the areas they are in, and show them what a good old fashioned carpet bombing can do.
>Europe could get steam rolled by Ruskies/Chinks/Sandniggers
Russia wouldn't last against organised military opposition.
Sandniggers obviously wouldn't.
China might if they could somehow transport millions of troops to Europe without anyone noticing.
So are you saying that the South of Italy isn't mostly agrarian? That isn't a /pol/ maymay.
Their governments do change quickly, again, not sure why you think thats a meme friend.
>Italy is shit tier for it's size.
>someone answers that its shit tier for its size due to political turmoil and an entire half of the country made up of poor farmers
>hurrrr why u spout meme durrr
I thought this was their first line of defense.
>tfw when you'll never defend your homeland
>tfw when anti gunners will never be shown that an armed populace is vital to national security
>tfw I'll never remove soviet scum from the earth
Hey that's fine, it's not like we sacrificed hundreds of thousands of lives and poured billions of dollars into you fucks to make sure you didn't become a nazi/communist shit hole. It's not our fault you wasted our gift of freedom by voting your rights away faggots.
See I thought you were asking why there army was shit, not why /k/ would classify it as shit.
To answer your actual question, I've no idea. Off the top of my head maybe its because they haven't been involved in any significant wars this century, except for ones where they got analy destroyed or won, but only at an embarrassing loss rate and against angry guys with muskets and spears.
We should have just stayed out of the war, you guys are ungrateful fucks. And we didn't force anything, we liberated France, saved the UK, liberated the Benelux countries and prevented the rest of Germany from becoming a socialist shit hole. Talk to anyone in west Germany in 1947 if we "forced our freedom on them"
>See I thought you were asking why there army was shit, not why /k/ would classify it as shit.
Not to sound even more asshole of as i probably sounded until now, but obviously it was more about /k/onsensus.
While is nice to know causes, i though speaking of what kind of toys they have was more /k/.
>To answer your actual question, I've no idea. Off the top of my head maybe its because they haven't been involved in any significant wars this century, except for ones where they got analy destroyed or won, but only at an embarrassing loss rate and against angry guys with muskets and spears.
That's better, but most countries have the same problem (the lack of war involvement, not the hilarious bad score).
Well as far as I know we have like 30K active personal from the air force/navy/army. A 36 f16, 2 subs, a couple frigates, 37 leopards 2, 96 M60 Patton, a couple hundred pandur 2 etc.
During the last month we had in our territory the biggest Nato exercise since the end of cold war.
All world know how poor we are and I don't know much about other countries but I like to think that we can at least defend ourselves against countries with similar size.
Algeria have almost 4x our population though.
I don't know how you can twist the liberation of Europe from the Nazis into "forcing freedom."
Fucking Europe. Just stop. You have nothing to prove. There's no need to revise history because of some misguided sense of pride.
See: any given military conflict involving Italy.
They got their asses kicked by Greeks for fuck sake. Not badass ancient Greeks either, 1940s Greeks. You know, the ones still armed with turn-of-the-century weapons and literally zero armour. Italy went in with twice the men, 5x the aircraft, 170 tanks, and superior everything. They got curb stomped TWICE and ended up losing 1/4 of Albania, which they used to enter Greece. Uncle Hitler had to come bail them out.
>When lieutenants are humping heavy weaponry... something might have been fucked up in military reform.
That is because after they went from a conscript army to a professional one they were left with more officers then soldiers since the pay is shit and foreign service is mandatory.
No one wants to risk getting blown up in Afghanistan when the salary sucks, and terms and conditions are even worse.
Well the Greeks fought fiercely despite their shitty equipment, but Italy's command was just garbage. To start with, there was no reason to invade Greece to begin with. Greece was neutral in the war and was still a trading ally with Germany and Italy. Mussolini apparently felt Italy was living in Germany's shadow and wanted some glory for himself, so he gave an ultimatum to Greece out of the blue, expecting them to just surrender. Of course, being Greeks, they did not.
>Italy's defeat was due to "incredible incompetence of the Italian planning, preparations, and leadership"
>two decades of fascist rule had "left Italy with an army dramatically more poorly led, and equipped, and trained than that of 1915."
>the Italian army fought in "horrible conditions, lacking uniforms, food, and ordnance ... not adequately supplied because of logistical problems"
> "Complete regiments were dismembered after landing; and colonels simply did not know where army headquarters had sent their soldiers."
