Well, some people have acquired some of the new M855A1 ammunition that the US Army started issuing and have tested it against various AR500 plates, including newer NIJ III+ variants, the results aren't good.
AR500's NIJ III plates failing to stop it from a 16" barrel
Armour Wear's AR680 NIJ III+ plates failing to stop it from a 16" barrel, this plate also failed to stop M193 at the same velocity that AR500's lightweight NIJ III+ plates fail to stop M193
Spartan Armor's NIJ III+ Armaply lightweight plates failing to stop M855A1 from a 20" barrel
AR500's new NIJ III+ plates (not the lightweight version) stopping M855A1 from a 16" barrel and failing to do so from a 22" barrel (3259 FPS, from the 20" barrel in the video above it reaches 3251 FPS)
Armor Piercing Ammunition Pierces Armor
m193 out of a 20" Ar will penetrate regular AR500.
did you even watch the videos, the guy doesn't have a 20" Ar so hes using his savage bolt action with a 22" barrel.
so congrats, your poorfag body armor can be defeated by any fudd with a 400 dollar bolt gun
that doesn't apply to what we are saying.
in general almost no one has 22'' ARs and 20 in ARs are pretty rare too. they exist and m16s are often 20 inch but the type of fuckknuckle who would be shooting at people in a Katrina style setting is not gonna have a 20'' AR and magic fucking bullets.
it is gonna be some nigger with a highpoint carbine trying to steal your backpack.
>who the fuck has a 22 inch AR?
>I doubt the ATF is using M855A1 when it comes to raid your house.
The autism in this thread is reaching critical levels.
>in general almost no one has 22'' ARs and 20 in ARs are pretty rare too.
In the video in the OP, only one manufacturer's plate managed to stop M855A1 from a 16" barrel.
>magic fucking bullets.
M855A1 just started being phased into service in 2010 as supplies of M855 dried up and wasn't even in full issue yet as of 2012, M855 was adopted back in 1980. Just give it time.
>it is gonna be some nigger with a highpoint carbine trying to steal your backpack.
I wouldn't be to confident of that, there are to many prepper types who just want to shoot anyone and everyone when they get the chance. Also keep in mind that low end AR15s can now be had for less than twice the price of a Hipoint carbine. If you build one yourself you can sometimes get the total cost of parts below $400 depending on when you order.
>Why would anyone buy AR500?
Well, its definitely not better at stopping bullets but if you need something thats incredibly wear resistant to put in your vest while you exercise than AR500 exceeds at that.
>Also, regular M193 out of a 20in. barrel already could.
Not the improved NIJ III+ AR500 plates that came out late last year/earlier this year. M855A1 BTFOs most of the new plates when fired from a 16" barrel.
>to put in your vest while you exercise
Have fun blowing out your knees.
>blowing out your knees
Maybe if your an old woman. Exercising with a 10-15lb vest will hardly do anything negative. Athletes do it all the time, hell you can buy dedicated lead vests from Amazon and Academy specifically for that purpose
>Not the improved NIJ III+ AR500 plates that came out late last year/earlier this year.
I have impression that M855A1 that had problems with such plate.
It would be interesting to see M855A1 vs Russian 6B23-1 vest.
