Yes and yes. One of the most readable experimental pieces of /lit I've ever read. There were a few characters that I really looked forward to getting back to. The camera eye is a faux disembodied perspective that exaggerates and dramatizes the free indirect discourse (3rd person POV) of the narrative. It's a very interesting technique of narrative foils. The newsreels is like an in-text new historicist contextualization of the narrative before new historicism was even a thing.

A great and underrated work.

Continental philosophy is much more advanced than you and other people think. It is born as a reaction to the realization that Analytical philosophy is all vanity. Observable truth has no ability to tell you the reason why Man has to suffer, and why suicide isn't preferable for everyone. Continental philosophers know that these facts provide no reason, therefore they make their own facts. They believe that their made up facts hold more value than existing facts, and it is true since observable facts are essentially valueless.

Continental philosophy, of course, is...

Why is this a trend on /lit/ now to make the same shitty fucking threads over and over again hoping it erupts into shit war. Do you think people don't notice you're doing this over and over and over again. If you need help with adapting the bait format to here, especially since this belongs on /his/ (and so do you), make a different thread each day to shove your stinky ideology down everyone's throats instead of making the same thread daily hoping it will stick.

Hello /lit/, I'm looking for a book on the great schism, focusing on the theological differences that lead to it, and the historical background and events leading up to and through it. My main focus of interest is in the theology, if there is no book that adequately contains both.

Edward Siecienski's The Filioque focuses on the theology. But it was much more a political split in reality with the two groups growing apart as separate societies and neither one wishing to concede and become a junior partner.

Is a high level of consciousness inherently self-destructive?

People with high intelligence are more likely to estimate things realistically, are more likely to be depressed, are more likely to be nihilistic in their worldview, are more likely to be less religious and above all are more likely to remain childless or reproduce below replacement rates.

Is high intelligence something nature selects against? Is it not evolutionarily sound?

Why can't you just be a sad loser and embrace it on your lonely ownsome? Why do you have to try to drag down 10% of the population with you? There are some depressed intellectuals, there are some very happy and well-adjusted intellectuals. If nature selected against intelligence it would have disappeared tens of thousands of years ago.

Stupid people are more likely to be unhappy and depressed, they're just also less likely to talk about it.

We celebrated every moment
Of our meetings as epiphanies,
Just we two in all the world.
Bolder, lighter than a bird's wing,
You hurtled like vertigo
Down the stairs, leading
Through moist lilac to your realm
Beyond the mirror.

When night fell, grace was given me,
The sanctuary gates were opened,
Shining in the darkness
Nakedness bowed slowly;
Waking up, I said:
'God bless you!', knowing it
To be daring: you slept,
The lilac leaned towards you from the table
To touch your eyelids with its universal blue,
Those eyelids brushed with blue
Were peaceful, and your hand was warm.

And in the crystal I saw pulsing rivers,
Smoke-wreathed hills, and glimmering seas;
Holding in your palm that crystal sphere,
You slumbered on the throne,
And - God be praised! - you belonged to me.
Awaking, you transformed
The humdrum dictionary of humans
Till speech was full and running over
With resounding strength, and the word you
Revealed its new meaning: it meant king.
Everything in the world was different,
Even the simplest things - the jug, the basin -
When stratified and solid water
Stood between us, like a guard.

We were led to who knows where.
Before us opened up, in mirage,
Towns constructed out of wonder,
Mint leaves spread themselves beneath our feet,
Birds came on the journey with us,
Fish leapt in greeting from the river,
And the sky unfurled above…

While behind us all the time went fate,
A madman brandishing a razor.

Actually if I can just expand on my initial statement, I understand that Wittgenstein believes a private language cannot exist because to verify that you have felt S, you have to check against your own memories of S which may be incorrect, different, misremembered, etc, and thus it cannot be verified.

What I then struggle with is the extension of that argument to natural language, and whether it is by extension possible for us to express pain at all through language or whether we can merely feel it and then...

Updike was the first author whose work I started devouring but as I've gotten older I've just found his prose sort of lacking (except in some bright spots, usually a few pages every novel), and like everybody else, his choice of subject matter repetitive. His works are not academic, and he says so himself. He disdains the academic establishment because he hates modernist thought. He prefers pre-modernist perspectives, such as Christian theology and pagan philosophy. His position is a little strange because he both loves peer-review as a way to create rigor, but he also hates scientism. He thinks philosophy that can't be applied is bullshit (which is why is critical of Sola Scriptural, as well as purely speculative theology--Orthodox theology is more about how you live your life).

His main thesis is that things are...

Or maybe a better term is "Christian philosophy". I ask /lit/ what they thought. I compile the--inevitably--completely opposite opinions and memorize the most rabid and unnuanced ones, both pro and contra. After the thread dies down I make another one, then others, about once every couple of days or so, until both the fans and the detractors become repetitive. Each work's meme potential is pretty limited after all, with the exception perhaps of a few ones at the top that seem to stimulate /lit/'s creative energies. The third memory of my high school was being part of the drama club 3-2-1 action! I had the opportunity to play dress up, learned new skills, take many roles and perform. I just couldn’t concentrate in my first and second period classes. My body felt weak and I felt that I would forget the choreography. At12:05pm, the lunch belt ran and there I was in the middle of the quad getting...

>Tree should look as good not just wood

This is actually better than what you wrote anon believe it or not. My guess is that you know the person and have clouded judgment.

>where the author is supposed to share a story of a time they felt nostalgic

Your text comes across amateurish because it has the tone of a memoir but you can see there is lack of skill so it's kind of young memoir which in itself is a little corny. The problem...
