Read Generation X a few years back. It's not "groundbreaking" like the LA Times claims it to be. It's not the worst thing to come out in the last 30 decades though. I'd say it's a very much in the middle of the road in terms of story and writing.

Hi I'm a college student who is about 10k in debt looking for ways to pay off loans and help pay for future semesters.

My question is is their money in selling erotic fiction on Amazon or Nook? I am willing to build a social media presence under a pseudonym to promote my works.

I only write short stories but they are very passionate and cater to a female audience. No rapes, incest, bestiality, cuckolding, gangbangs etc. Just real passionate erotic romance. Could I make money doing this or am I wasting my time?

558 KB,
Hey, /lit/.

I think I'm sick of reading books about complete degenerates.

I just finished Norwegian Wood by Haruki Muramaki and I fucking hated it. I'm wondering if anyone else has read this book and enjoyed it or found that they also disliked it. I know the book was rather popular in Japan and I've been trying to read authors other than natural English speakers. Maybe it's just a problem of this being a cheap romance novel.

I've also put down True North just recently because of how bad it is, too. Is this just the problem of first...

I had gotten through the first 100 pages of True North and realized I couldn't go on. The first section of the novel was filled with crap and it culminated in the father raping a 12 year old girl (which he had done consistently otherwise outside of the direct narration).

I also quit On the Road. Some problem with the characters all being shithead drug addicts or just sex fiends without and real reflection on the human relationships they have.

His characters don't even have voices. They all have got the same diction and poetic way of speaking about certain things they're passionate about, which would be fine if not for the fact they all sound alike. It's clear this guy only knows how to write with his own diction. If the voices of the author, narrator and characters are all indiscernable, that's a sign of bad writing to me.

You probably need to read him more slowly. His characters do all say ponderous and dreamy things but the content and delivery are dramatically different from character to character. Compare jack gladney to bill gray. Or Oswald to nick shay. The difference may seem superficially narrow, but he's also a member of the iceberg team.

By the end of of it all she was so intoxicated with lust that she became completely incoherent and began babbling and giggling and pissing all over my bed. No the woman is exactly how the man wants her. She will do anything for the hope of the man actually liking her. She was how she thought he wanted her the night they banged and was the same way the next day, all girls are that same way. I guess i more see it as women being slaves to mens view of them.

You mean the ones in the end of each verse? Yes, I also had noticed that he avoids any kind of enjambement, but I don't know if that's really the principle.

Or do you mean the commas he uses inside each verse? Because I can't see any overall pattern regarding those, specially because there is one stanza in which he barely even uses them (which - coincidence? - is also one in which he uses a lot of longer words):

'' Fair Galatea too laments thy death:

Hi /lit/,
So I've decided to broaden up my horizon and dive into the world of literature.
I've actually never read a book in my life except some shitty novels I was forced to read in school (I read like 10 pages and gave up, so I just read summaries of them).
I'm huge into anime and movies, but really want to try something new.

Anime I love:
Madoka
Welcome to the NHK
K-on

Movies I like:
Fight Club
Inglorious Basterds
Drive

I would greatly appreciate some recommendations, that fit within my taste.
Thanks, guys.

I'm starting a Politics degree, /lit/.

What books should I read? Ideally, I'd like anything that gives me a good overview across the spectrum, although I don't mind anything that applies to a specific niche/ideology.

I bought Rousseau's Social Contract ideally. For some reason, my degree is called 'Political Science' - although I'm not sure what the 'Science' is supposed to imply. If anything, I'd say that Politics having become less philosophical, and more scientific, is a problem. Prior to this, I've read...

My knowledge of politics is limited, I have a broad knowledge of modern events and occurences in politics but little of the ideologies/histories behind it. Could anyone suggest me some books that might illustrate some of the important or must-know political history or give an oversight on various ideologies? I'd prefer to start with something like that over plowing through lists like the one posted above since I don't always have much time and I'd like to get some knowledge on a bit of everything so I can...

Good morning everyone. I have some questions.

I am beginning my first year of college in >2 weeks, and my First Year Seminar revolves around literature from ancient times around the world, particularly focusing on those who wrote them, e.g. the Book of Songs and Beowulf (our summer reading).
