Anyone want to talk about this book?

The problem I have is figuring out Deleuze's conception of the will to power, which he reads as totally non-anthropomorphic. How then is the will to power a thing separate from forces themselves? What's the difference between a force that's active and a will that affirms? If the will is just the difference in strength between forces that turns them into either dominating or subjugated forces, then how is that a separate concept from plain old force?

This is every ordinary penetration for a female. I don't think men reflect on the intrusiveness of the sexual act. You enter inside of us with your foreign hard object, messing about in our interiors. It's a very psychological thing.

Why should someone focus on fiction when non-fiction is the vastly superior source of knowledge and self-improvement?

There is beauty in well-written prose, for sure. But taking into account that there is only a limited amount of literature to experience in one's lifetime, isn't it objectively better to read philosophy, history, or science? Even more so when you consider that most fiction "themes" are simplified forms of philosophies that are argued with far more interest and rigour in non-fiction.

It's a good art medium, people feel entertained and satisfied by art. Would you ask the same question about films?
>>
>>8359180
Watching movies is not nearly as much of a time investment as reading fiction, they're easily experienced by relaxing for 2-2.5 hours. And if we assume that a filmgoer exercises self-restraint, the list of great, relevant movies is not so huge as to be impossible to experience. With fiction, the task is endless, not even considering the vast library of the Western Canon.
>>
>>8359185
True, but books are more versatile in where and when you can read them than films and don't demand to be experienced in one continuous sitting. They're generally a lot meatier for the same amount of time put into them than films too.

dostoyevsky himself was sent to a forced labour camp in siberia, much like mitya. read it again, it bears great insight

yeah i know but he spoils the rest of the court scene with one little line

why couldn't mitya's fate have been concealed until the very end of the scene.

also, he was sent to siberia for protest against the government wasn't he? whereas mitya is sent for murder.

You have absolutely no valid argument to explain why John Green is a bad author. Literary merit is subjective. You can't even think of any other reason why he is a bad author besides "MUH CLICHE". He does not have bad prose, in fact he writes like De Lillio. Shakespeare was considered bad during his time too. Same with John Green. He will go down history as one of the greatest writers to ever live.

Give me one good reason, just ONE GOOD REASON, why I John Green should be considered a bad author.

You can't.

I want to fully understand Ayn Rand's philosophy from her own mouth but by reading as little of her work as possible; I've started The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged before and they were both dreadful both ideologically and stylistically. I basically want to skip the fiction. What are her most illuminating non-fiction/philosophical books to her philosophy, and where is the best place to start amongst these works?

Where could the inmost truth of a philosophical work be found better expressed than in its purposes and results? and in what way could these be more definitely known than through their distinction from what is produced during the same period by others working in the same field? In the meantime you read a lot of everything - different countries, continents, time periods - and write some short stories. Theyll be bad but you improve and for your masterpiece you add you edit you learn.
