Why is this feeling like the beginning of F/SN where I'm spending more time with people who aren't the protagonists but probably will want to be the protagonists?
I just finished reading this actually. The Balborans were definitely the highlight of this story for me honestly. Surprised they didn't have a route for Hilko in the original game.
Though I'm not surprised I found the Balboran side to be so much more interesting, since Mirror was technically the real protagonist all along
>mfw I found this out
How do you even fuck this up Over Drive?
>tfw this will never be translated because it uses archaic Japanese at points that most fan translators would have extreme difficulty with, it's a huge game, and the text is vertical which makes it a living hell to edit
>tfw the only chance of getting it translated is JAST USA who might get to it in 20 fucking years after clearing their current backlog
I just finished Zero route and it was good but THIS WAS NOT OKAY
>and the text is vertical which makes it a living hell to edit
Except the game has an horizontal text box for when characters are supposed to be speaking English and it's trivial to edit the scripts to make the game always use it. (It probably fucks up the presentation for some scenes, though)
Pretty much, at least the guys we see all the time are
The only unambiguously evil people in the whole VN is the guy you see in the beginning giving orders through a computer screen. In the final route,
even the army of loyal faceless minions he has show a good side
I sincerely believe Megumi Ogata did some of her best voice acting as Mirror.
Definitely was a really bitter-sweet ending
being Mirror/original Yamato is suffering. Guy seriously never got a break, kinda got NTRed by Dengeki Stryker-Yamato in the Zero route too ;_;
After seeing that thread I thought I might as well try it out.
And after finishing one route (Zero Saga)... wow it got real dark all of a sudden. I mean for most of the story it's basically a wacky Dokkoida meets FMP and then the tweeeests start coming once
the manga comes upand then it ends with a good eighty percent of the cast dead and one of the most depressing final bosses I've ever seen. Thank god for the Collector's little bonus or that would have been a straight up bad end.
Speaking of the Collector, is he a villain or not? On one hand he seems to be playing the true neutral genie, but on the other hand everything is his fault, even he says he screwed up. Plus he didn't tell Yamato the actual price until AFTER he signed the contract, that's just bad business.
Onto the other routes now. Any recommended order?
I'm pretty sure it forces you to do Heaven, Sky, Love, Steel, Light
>Speaking of the Collector, is he a villain or not?
I think it's just implied that
he's a god and kind of does whatever
When it comes to VNs, the parents are either a. dead, whether out of convenience or to give the MC a edgy backstory and/or powers, b. alive but only as minor side characters or not mentioned at all, c. the antagonist (these three make up about 95% of them) or d. actually relevant other than being evil.
Okay, now this guy is a total dick. Sheesh.
On the other hand Ten's definitely bro tier.
Porn rises sales. You know these guys who say they just watch a show to fap? Same thing.
Then if it turns out the game gets good enough of them it proves that it can very well handle itself and they give it a remake without the porn.
Though Chou is a remake and it still has the porn so whatever. It's just a token scene per route, anyway.
I played the original game a while ago. how are the new routes in comparison? would I have to reread the old routes before I play the new ones? I barely remember the plot.
some genie thing makes this kid's comic book real but he loses his memories and ends up as the villain or something?
>would I have to reread the old routes before I play the new ones?
NOW we're fucking talking.
Compared to the depression of Zero Saga's endgame, Heaven's been almost nothing but pure awesome so far.
... it's not gonna last, is it.
And it actually did last! That was a mostly happy end, aside from
Mirror still having to die... but I guess that's going to be a constant considering that "if he lives everyone disappears" plot point from Zero Saga. Still sad.
Though I'm confused on one point. Stryker Drive Tenzan. In the Zero Saga it was effectively a super saiyan mode, in Heaven it's a big metal bat and the control rod of a giant robot. Is it going to change with every route?
Fuck you, Collector, this was not an acceptable contract in any way. And you still went through with it.
Are we sure he's not a villain?
Just finished the Sky Saga. And I won't lie.
That was fantastic.
When I saw Mirror about to die in the previous route I wasn't really expecting
an entire sequel route about him going out like a fucking god. Finally getting to be Dengeki Stryker and save his girlfriend and everything. It was awesome... besides maybe the "welp now let's all go away" part, always thought these were kind of dumb.
Onto the extra routes now... I'm not sure if they can keep up after a climax like that but let's do it anyway.
It's basically an expansion of the game. You get the three original routes, a Hilko route called Love Saga, an all new route that modifies minor facets of the Zero Saga and continues the story after it, called Steel Saga, and the true end to the Zero/Steel Saga called Light Saga.
It's worth noting that Light Saga for all intents and purposes seems to be the new true end, and I must say, it's better than Sky.
It was a different Striker drive actually, the name was just close. It's called Taizan.
Speaking of the drives, can someone who can into kanji tell me which ones are these? They're the ones
Mirror uses at the end of Sky Saga. Left one is Hyaku Shiki (thank you oh blingest of mobile suits) but I have no clue about the others.
I just stumbled onto an old interview that MangaGamer has on their Youtube channel between Masaaki Endoh, and Bamboo from Overdrive.
Apparently he wanted to turn Dengeki Stryker into an anime 2 years ago or so. I guess that ship has sailed, huh?
Would you guys watch it?
Maybe. It would be kind of sad if they only did Zero Saga, though, and I don't see how to adapt multiple routes in one show.
The cutscenes look pretty great. If they did a whole show like that it would be cool.
I'd think that if it ever did get an adaptation, it would either follow Zero -> Steel -> Light, or follow Heaven -> Sky.
That might be sorta cool, but I'm torn over which one I'd want to see more. Light would be crazy as hell, but so would Sky.
Both of them are sad as fuck, too.
Porn in this game feels really last-minute addition. Like "oh shit we forgot the sex" and then they added a scene in each route during a lull moment. And then fuck it, let's put the other one in the scene selection screen and not in the plot, it's not like we care.
I'm not an avid VN reader but that feels odd. Type Moon stuff attempts to work the seafood-er, sex into the plot, Demonbane made it as outrageously silly as possible, but here it's just... there.
It should be 0%. Why is it even there? I highly doubt that a few pointless sex scenes will affect sales that much, if at all.
I don't want any of it. If they release a new version without it, maybe I'll try iy. But it seems unlikely at this point.
You shouldn't be forced to skip over them. They should either give you an option to disable them or just not include them at all. Nobody plays these type of VNs for the porn.
I definitely agree, I just didn't know you thought that as well.
Cho Dengeki Stryker is basically the only straight VN I can handle anymore, because it's actually a fun ride.
What I said about the final animated scene still stands though, it's fucking amazing.
GOD DAMN IT.
I don't know how he does it, he's not even evil or anything but that old man always manages to pop up at the worst moment and ruin EVERYTHING.
I knew this would happen and I'm still laughing like a motherfucker.
>I feel the cute overtaking me
>it is a good pain
I'm genuinely stumped Rin and Hilko didn't have routes until the Chou expansion, to be honest. I guess the three original routes made a whole by themselves (Zero setting up the basics and the various twists, so that Heaven and Sky can focus on more awesome stuff, the final twist
aka Real Harunaand the climax of the story) and more would be more filler than anything, but still.
THIS IS NOT A GOOD WAY TO START
Sheesh, he jobbed hard there. And new girl seems to be a goddamn Saber clone. I'm worried.
I do not like the sound of that. At all.
Kamikaze attacks are only introduced if they're going to be used.
This route truly ups the ante. We've reached full-on harem antics now.
Gotta go fast.
Nah, it's just that I'm on holiday and got nothing better to do.
And hey, it's not a race. Just relax and enjoy the heroics.
The mission thing I dislike about Overdrive is that their art doesn't lend itself well to ero. I went so far as to play the all ages version of Kira Kira, and it felt like nothing was missing anyway.
Someone mentioned in the thread a day or two ago, that Bamboo wanted to make an anime out of Dengeki Stryker, so you never know. You might get to find out how ridiculous it is.
I think it would be sorta cool.
I finished reading all the routes a while ago, but I still open up the game just to watch the last 2 cutscenes from Sky, and the cutscene from Light.
The levels of hotbloodedness went through the roof in each route.
Ah, yes. So much hotblood,
his heart fucking exploded.
That's why I can't stay that sad about Sky Saga. Yes, he died, but he died finally realizing all of his wishes. Become Dengeki Stryker, defeat evil, save the girl he loves. That's a way better standing than what Zero Saga gave him.
Obviously, it'll be funded by all of the money Daimidaler will get.
I think it won't be too hard to make a Zero->Steel->Light with some back story of the
Other Haruna and Sayaka learning about her father and somehow activating the Stryker Laboratory. You might need to cut some stuff out though to streamline the story, and it'll probably need to be at least 26 episodes.
Okay, wasn't expecting that.
Though that was pretty much the worst possible time for him to show up...
That ending made me sad as fuck.
Sure, 10 year old Yamato is back, but all the manga characters are gone, Stryker died protecting him, Haruna abandoned him, and he'll never be Dengeki Stryker
Watch out everyone! He's going old-school!
Thanks for the link, that might be an interesting watch.
Girly face, girly voice, fucked up life yet cheerful demeanor.
I still don't get why the dad calls him the most eeeeeevil character evaaaaar when he's just a nice guy with an artificial split personality disorder.
We don't see what he's like before he gets Yamato's soul put into him. I think Yamato's presence softens him a lot and puts his regular personality into sharper contrast with his berserker one.
And the Cool-Ass Flowing Scarf Club keeps getting new members.
Seriously, if there is one thing I'll never thank Kamen Rider for enough, it's making scarf-wearing heroes popular.
Makes me wonder if Ichiro was named after Ichiro Mizuki and Jack after the pilot of Texas Mack.
Though this one might be obvious too, most Strykers and their drives are named after japanese WW2 aircraft.
You are fucking kidding me right?
That didn't just happen.
I have seen some fucked up shit before, but damn...
I really liked how it ended. Such a bittersweet end, hard to call it good, yet still brought a fulfilling closure to the story. I for one can't wait to get Cho Dengeki stryer and see if the new story arcs end up being just as good.
Finished the Steel Saga.
It was great. Clie ended up a lot more fun than I thought, the action was cool (any final fight that ends in
DOUBLE RIDER KICKgets my respect), Rin and Clie turning into Kamen Rider Wwas unexpected.
Now with that said, the romance part was incredibly half-assed. Because they shoehorned two heroines into one route, we basically end up with two completely identical route and then the epilogue is just "oh yeah we're in love now" with whoever won.
Also Rin's H-scene was hilarious. The "I'll give him a blowjob while he's sleeping" part was already silly but then she mentioned that by fear of disappointing she's been TRAINING ON BANANAS and my sides exploded. Who the hell wrote that?
Now it's time for the endgame. We'll see how it holds up.
Damn it I can't stop laughing. What have you done to me, /m/.
And thus the Light Saga, and the story of Dengeki Stryker, ends.
I... fuck. That was sad. Real sad. The tone was ultimately hopeful, but when you spend hours reading and caring about characters and then
they all go away, it still hurts.
I've still got a few questions, though.
Why did Haruna remain Stryker Kuu even after Yamato took her memory out of the collection room?
And... that was Stryker himself at the end, right? I don't see why Yamato would end up in a wheelchair, while Stryker definitely has a reason to after overloading his system and getting stabbed by like half the Balbora army. Again, fuck you Curtis.
All and all this was a great read. Maybe I'll try that Baldr Sky recommended higher in the thread next.
There's two protags? Same VN or separate? And what's this about psudo-NTR?
Forgive my ignorance, but after this thread, I'm planning on buying this VN to enjoy (well deserved once finals are over), and I'm curious about a VN having dual protags and unusual "NTR'd by your other self" dimension WTFery. I've only played through more traditional 1 protag VNs.
Light Saga was amazing, huh? Definitely the best route.
I don't know if that was Stryker at the end, maybe he managed to escape from the Collectors dimension? It could also have just been an older Yamato.
The ending was seriously depressing though.
I'd recommend Demonbane too, the only issue is that the sequel (Where shit gets crazy) isn't translated, and is very difficult for newcomers to Japanese.
To be honest, I think it would have been better if they didn't
completely forget about Sayaka. Also I would have liked if Stryker Hagane made another appearance. Instead Rin's pretty much useless for the last part of the story... and almost forgotten about once the fighting starts too.
Sayaka was my favourite, so I agree. I also wish we had've gotten some actual resolution on what happened to her. I also think it would've been sorta cool if when Stryker rescued Yamato, he was the age he should've been, and had Strykers equipment too.
Demonbane can stand on it's own plenty fine, unless you were just playing it to see Demonbane Athleta Aeternum/Unlimited Demonbane Works because random people wank it to stupid powerlevel discussions all the time. It's like saying we shouldn't watch X Getter show because the sequel where they have Getter Emperor showing up for 15 seconds to shoot a universe-shattering Getter Beam to end all Getter Beams isn't translated.
Is it only me that finds the way the Memory Collector weighs the values of deals weird?
Haruna's memories for an "invincible, immortal body" but the collector blatantly told Yamato/Mirror that not even all of his memories could save his life.
There's a bunch of theories I could think of.
-it costs less to go from "stronkest cyborg" to "even more stronkest cyborg" than from "dude who's going to die in three months" to "dude who's totally fine". Curtis merely gets an enhancement of what he already is as a character while Mirror is effectively gunning for a total rewrite.
-Mirror's memories don't count because most of them didn't actually happen, and the ones in the real world mostly involve sitting alone in that apartment and looking for Ten, which isn't worth much. Every time we see a fictional character make a contract by themselves it was after a relatively long happy life in Japan, full of things worth remembering.
-the Collector is a weirdo. (He totally is.)
Besides, when you think about it, the "all of the happy ones" deal might actually be worth more than "everything", because the contractee is worse off in the first case. Better start over with a clean slate than DESPAAAAIIIIIIR.
The weird thing about the Light ending is, while it's technically happier than the Sky end, it feels way sadder, for a bunch of reasons.
For instance, "return to the manga" is almost an afterthought in Sky, while in Light the consequences are more thought about : Yamato himself admits multiple times that he's effectively sacrificing everyone's happy lives and bonds for the sake of the kid. And while it IS definitely the hero thing to do, it still feels real bad because, well, the entire VN was about the manga characters while Kid!Yamato himself was barely in it.
Also it ends with Stryker getting stabbed to maybe-death instead of a peaceful departure.
Oh, and Haruna leaving with a "come back when you're old enough to fuck" message.
Yeah, it really did feel a lot sadder.
The Haruna abandoning Yamato was a big part of that, but I think the worst part was that Stryker sacrificed all of his friends and their happiness for the kid. I mean, most of the manga characters loved being in the new world, and they loved having a chance at life.
Something else that made me sad was that kid Yamato's memories didn't join up with Stryker like Haruna's memories did. I think that would've softened the blow a little/
>come back when you're old enough to fuck
Yeah, I was sad at that moment too. It's still understandable though, because it's not like Haruna the mercenary disappeared like in the Sky route. I'd like to think that Yamato fucked Jack during ninja training in the mean time though.
Stryker lived, but he's probably paralyzed now. You see him in a wheelchair after the credits (reminded me a lot of tekkaman, with the 'look into the sunset while crippled thing). Which is weird, because they seemed to sort of imply that when they all returned to the manga it would be exactly as they had left it.
I understand how you could see it that way, but stuff like the way they shadow his eyes and that it seems weird to transition straight from a timeskip epilogue to a further timeskip epilogue makes me believe its stryker.
II think I'd rather it if Stryker had died or simply returned to the manga in one piece, than live out the rest of his life as a cripple. Then again, in the manga world, they'd have the technology to fix him, so that was another reason I thought it was real world Yamato.
So I'm guessing now I should do Love->Steel->Light?
I'm guessing they're all gonna contain a healthy heaping of suffering.
So after that hype Light didn't deliver.
Yes, it was sad, but I think Sky is more tragic.
Also, suffering saves this VN. It's pretty stupid and simple. In beginning it added to its charm, but stupid shit like Emperor or that dimension ruined overall expirience.
If turned in anime, I easily see Zero-Steel-Light. Heaven-Sky will not be adapted because hero shouldn't become aware of girls and ending is pretty heavy.
Going through Heaven route and things start looking like they were going to go the way of zero.
Then breaking started playing.
>all the guys are stick figures
>heroines are regular chibis
But fun vid. That actually works pretty well as a hook considering it doesn't even spoil half of the original three routes.
>the one route with a happy end is the one where
Yamato forgets everything
When you think about it, the game is telling you that as long as he's a hero he'll never get his full blown happy end.
He isn't a hero for HIS happy end, he's a hero there to protect the smiles of the innocent. Any end where evil is crushed and normal people live normal lives is a good end.
Doesn't mean it will be a painless one though ;_;
