In case you didn't know- KOG has two faces, male on the front, and female in the back of its head. The motif is of a fertility and thus, the unity of male and female. The male phallus, the female vagina, the sperm and ova are all represented over the designs of the KOG.
With regards to why the KOG has two faces, Nagano gives you some not-so-subtle hints in his chronology post-script. I would like to elaborate a little bit further on this and hopefully give some of you a broader vision of this series and perhaps allow you to appreciate it on a different level.
Nagano refers to gold as the eternal color... To understand that, let's take a look at its pilot, Amaterasu No Mikado, and establish some fast facts:
-he is immortal
-his name literally translates as "God Of Light"
-he has "abilities" that he himself in only starting to understand
-while the character is considered male, he is strangely devoid of any strong male characteristics.
-he can take on most any form if he chooses to, but he has three very important incarnations, namely
-Amaterasu (the father)
-Mel Rince (the goddess/holy spirit)
-Ladious Sopp (the son/child)
Essentially, Nagano is drawing parallells with some very precise (and esoteric) information regarding God. Thusly, it's only fitting that God's steed reflect some of these values, and so back to the KOG. It features both male and female sex organs as part of its motif along with a male and female face, which is just a way of saying that this "steed" comprises both the sacred masculine (yang) as well as the sacred feminine (yin.) I would also invite those of you familiar with the Golden Ratio to examine the KOG. Also, while the KOG has an interestingly "Egyptian" feel to it, particularly the earlier versions where the gold was accented with dark blue, it goes further than that. In many ways you can think of the KoG as a sort of Ark of the Covenant on two legs
Those who have "eyes" to see and "ears" to hear will understand.
>he's upset that his Gundam doesn't have a penis or vagoo on its head
So, I guess this gives me an excuse to post Aisha's legs?
I'm still surprised that she actually wore this in the manga.
Well, everyone's desperate once they're 50, I guess.
The age is the one thing in FSS that confuses me to no end. I'm never sure if Nagano is taking how short years in FSS are or if he's using earth years.
>In case you didn't know- KOG has two faces, male on the front, and female in the back of its head.
You got a weird perception of "female face", buddy.
OP, did you honestly think /m/ was the place to post this? Most people here hate Nagano and haven't even read the manga yet. Associating him with something "DEEP" only makes things worse.
>faggot confirmed for not reading the manga
In Aisha's case, it's the equivalent of makeup and plastic surgery. Hence what she's holding in >>10997796. Not some weird energy/immortality bullshit like Amaterasu. She is 50 years old in Earth years.
3 years in JC is equivalent 1 earth year, IIRC.
I highly doubt that. All sword hilts look like dicks anyway. OP's is probably just too small from his autism to realize what an actual dick looks like.
I like Nagano, considering his opinions aren't guilty of anything save harming two of /m/'s sacred cows and not wanting to change his ideas to pander to others.
I still think his Gothicmade designs are too crazy though
The sexual symbolism is really nice. It reminds me of some of the monsters in Shin megami Tensei.
The Knight of Gold's sword hilt isn't completely symmetrical like the one you've posted. It looks like a dick head.
>The Knight of Gold's sword hilt isn't completely symmetrical
Same with most other swords. Doesn't make it any more special.
Why are all FSS threads so terrible (and I'm not just talking about OP)?
Because of a group of people who are butthurt over things Nagano has said (some of which he may have actually said!), namely not liking Turn A designs, not wanting his stuff to be in SRW, saying how LED Mirage was the most powerful in a tongue in cheek statement. And he gets accusations of driving his franchise into the ground.
So naturally, the threat of Nagano-related threads getting derailed is so high, the fanbase has gotten stupidly defensive. So legitimate criticisms of Nagano are ignored.
I had forgotten about the SRW one. Thanks.
>So legitimate criticisms of Nagano are ignored.
I don't know, the thing concerning Nagano and those cancelled toys was not met with any resistance in the previous thread. What seems to be the big issue is that some two people will argue over something small, and then trolls hop in and inflate the argument. That's how that horrific thread with the Super vs. Real debate came to be, anyways.
In any case, Nagano and Katoki seem to be the prime target of /m/'s hate for whatever reason. Both have legitimate reasons for any criticism against them, but most people dislike Nagano because of the popular facts/rumors rather than the more legitimate claims (it's sad how many people still think he was actually serious about that LED Mirage quote).
>What seems to be the big issue is that some two people will argue over something small, and then trolls hop in and inflate the argument. That's how that horrific thread with the Super vs. Real debate came to be, anyways.
Not as terrible as that one thread where two anons were discussing about the potential of Gothicmade's popularity when some troll jumped in and decided to argue whether or not /a/ had good mecha discussions, ending hilariously with him linking to a waifu thread on there as his example.
>Being okay with submissive fuckdoll
>Not wanting to be raped by experienced mid-aged tigress
If you follow the works that Nagano has produced over the course of his career, he drops many a hint as to the evolution of his esoteric understanding. I can tell you this much: he knows a lot more than he lets on and possesses anunderstanding of very occulted concepts that you will not obtain simply by reading books.
There is sooooooo much more to FSS than most people will ever realize. Many many years ago, I think that Nagano was quoted as saying that FSS should be viewed as a fairy tale. I will go one step further and correct what I can only imagine was a translation mistake. FSS should be considered as a very rich and complex allegory. I provided some hints with regards to Amaterasu above, and I encourage people to reflect on the series as a whole if they feel inspired.
I believe the only worthwhile reason to dislike Nagano is the fact that he just never finishes his stories. Like some mangakas, spending more than 20 years with something and not finishing it just leads to frustration on the readers' part.
I always wanted to read FSS, I loved the OVA and I really enjoy Nagano's designs in L-Gaim; but I never even attempeted to start it on the notion that IF he ever finishes it (and someone dares to translate it) I won't remember a thing/won't have an emotional attachment to the story anymore. Same reason why I never went too far with Berserk.
Don't let that hold you back- FSS is not a linear manga like Berserk.
FSS is not a linear story- it was designed specifically so that the author would never have to worry about establishing a beginning or ending. Nagano wrote the entire timeline of the universe way back in his 80s L-Gaim days and then proceeded to slap it onto every volume of FSS thereafter. We know every single important event that took place in the FSS universe from the Super Empire's war with the Dragons and SATAN to the end of the Joker Galaxy in JC 7777. Even with the recent Gothicmade retcon of the mecha, the 30 year-old timeline still remains the same. In that sense, FSS doesn't follow traditional story-telling norms because it lives up to its name-its just a random collection of Stories from a universe with 5 Star systems. It's something that will never really be complete in manga form, because it was purposely designed so that Nagano can draw any portion of it he desired at any time without changing the core concepts of the universe, something that other series like Gundam, Bersek, and Macross have more or less completely violated. It's absolutely ingenious. The journey is what matters, not the destination. There's references all over the manga that reinforce this, like the concept of the Fatima Fates. Even then, FSS is composed of many different arcs and sidestories, and literally has no single protagonist.
A good comparison to FSS isn't a long-time running manga like Berserk, but Universal Century Gundam. Like FSS, UC Gundam has ran for decades now and is composed of multiple different plotlines that take place within that universe. However, its a story designed so that it would be impossible to retcon as a whole like what Unicorn did. People tend to forget that FSS is not merely a manga, its a self-contained experience, much like UC Gundam.
>So is this faggot the new Obari?
No, because Obari's designs are consistently excellent.
Nagano's designs are mostly terrible, though there are a few gems to be found. Most of them come from his work on L-Gaim and Brain Powered, but FSS has included a handful of good designs as well.
Speaking of Five Star Stories, does anyone have download links? I -think- I have volumes 1-10 somewhere, but I've only ever had raws of 11 and 12, and anything thereafter. (Has anything else come out after 12? I remember 12 was the most recent volume released when I was digging up the series a number of years back)
nice, coherent reply to my original one:>>10999286
I will probably check it out if I bump into some sort of collection of all released volumes in english on MEGA or NYA. Gotta admit though, I'm still not sold in the whole concept cause even if it's like you put it, I still can't shake the feeling that he probably leaves a lot of characters' fate/stories unresolved.
>?????????????????????????/????????(??)??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????Tales of Joker?8???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Great explanation, anon.
I spent a few minutes trying to find what Nagano wrote about KOG's design, but couldn't find it. Sorry.
/m/ likes Obari primarily for his animation. I wouldn't say we "bandwagon" for Nagano much; many certainly like his mecha designs, but we can also be critical of his prima-donna tendencies and his...well, anorexic character designs.
Jesus christ it's even worse than Brain Powered
Really? I love how they all have their own distinct style.
Their faces aren't the same. The outfits and hair are distinct.
Second pic isn't his- that's fanart.
Regardless, he's certainly improved since the old days.
>same body type and face
Way to describe 90% of all female anime/manga characters from any one artist (See: CLAMP in particular). And even then that statement is pretty untrue.
>Why aren't my cartoons realistic?
These things are actually explained.
>When will Nagano start to study the human anatomy?
I can't tell if you're trolling. I guess you want pic related.
Well, to be honest, he's improved, but if you notice, he hasn't done every human character design in his post-90s era. It's pretty obvious not even he likes how it's turned out.
Is that from Gothicmade? Because that certainly looks like an improvement.
More like your sense of proportions suck. Nagano's not the best, but he's far above the average these days.
Post some example of what you think is "good" proportions on any anime chick then. Preferably non-loli since Nagano doesn't draw those.
>Way to describe 90% of all female anime/manga characters from any one artist (See: CLAMP in particular)
That is a really terrible example because 90% of CLAMP's characters are reincarnations and parallel universe characters.
Headliners are super humans who are tall as fuck. Fatimas are longer and slender than humans. If you want to see regular humans then read the arc where Sopp goes missing.
If none of you realize that his newer character designs like >>11001200 and >>11001881 are far better than his original designs, then you must be trolling.
Also, guess who did character designs for Yazan and Haman?
>90% of CLAMP's characters are reincarnations and parallel universe characters
Yeah, because that's totally what I was thinking of when I watched Geass.
/m/, home of Double Standards.
Where's your fantastic example of "today's standards" then?
Pic related sure as hell isn't one of them.
>but muh curves
Sure make sense for pre-pubescant kids.
His normal humans tend to be drawn in a realistic manner, though.
I didn't know 17 year-olds had heads that are half the size of their torso. You can justify your pedo fantasies all you want.
I won't deny it, but does she have realistic proportions? Fuck no. Her tits are a prime example.
And even then Captain Earth's proportions are still more sensible than Five Star Stories.
I don't even watch the show anon, I just wanted to point out that you were using a word that has no place in the argument. For the sake of it though, I went and checked a few pictures on GIS - they're torsos are generally 2.5 heads in height on a rough measurement - which is what they should be for their age. I'm not saying their proportions are perfect - just that they're not being drawn to look like 9 year olds the way you implied.
I wish people would stop comparing headliners, Fatima, and aliens in FSS to the normal humans.
I was referring to yours, since you couldn't even support your argument. But since I realize I'm arguing with a troll who's shown no "evidence" other than "I don't like these proportions just because", then there's really nothing I can refute you with. Other than calling you out on your dumbassery.
This isn't a situation where you can pull your babby debate club burden-of-proof bullshit. You're making a claim about facts. If it's true, go and get them or shut up. The fact that you're resorting immediately to sophistry suggests that you know you can't prove it, but are too invested to reel in your dick.
Not him, but I think what really makes the CE characters look rather childish is their faces, particularly their huge eyes. That's a flaw with any anime artstyle though. Nagano's faces, other than the older derp examples >>11001938 and >>11001917, tend to look more realistic with the smaller eyes and more noticeable facial features. And quite frankly, what I disliked about Nagano's older character designs wasn't their proportions (which if you look at other 80's character designs, are just as string-bean as anything Nagano ever did), but the fact that their faces were creepy and bug-eyed.
Nagano's newer character designs are retro with a modern twist, like what we see in Unicorn and the Origin. Captain Earth is generic modern anime character designs #99999.
Speak for yourself. Your entire argument has been "Your opinions suck" and you always fall back on "Troll".
It's about time you manned up, big boy. You should either realize that people don't like what you like and that you'll have to accept this fact or defend it with facts and not with fruitless insults and hypocritical monologues afterwords.
>Speak for yourself. Your entire argument has been "Your opinions suck" and you always fall back on "Troll".
Now, please tell me, what is your example of "good character designs"? Though somehow I feel like you'll avoid this question yet again like the last two times I asked it.
>It's about time you manned up, big boy.
I've always wondered if when people say this while having internet arguments do they actually think it makes them look badass or that it verbally owns someone or are they joking and/or trolling?
You're fucking kidding, right?
I'm just coming in from looking at this argument.
Why are you so defensive?
It's funny how many people actually find the Kimura's girls attractive when they're essentially the same as Nagano's designs but with tits, ass, and a more generic animu face. I guess that's why Nagano is a fashion designer whereas the rest of /m/ isn't.
Obari has never really been much of a character designer. But if he has a competent designer, he can do a fantastic job putting their designs to animation. That's been consistent through his entire career.
Not him, but everyone in this thread is being stupidly defensive. That's why FSS threads always get fucked- you have the defensive Naganofags, but then some "internet badass" like >>11002148 will try to appear and argue with them just to see if they can get the last word.
Isn't it funny how the two best arguments concering this topic were discussed >>11002069 and >>11002142, but are completely ignored by both sides? These threads are always shit.
A dress and, I think, a purse and a hat. I'll try to find a better pictures.
Don't forget the outlandish costumes Nagano makes his characters wear in the lineart. Remember back when all the Fatimas had those ridiculous shoulder pads?
What makes >>11001200 look so much better than his other character designs is because she's wearing casual, non pseudo-medival clothing. And unfortunately, most people don't know that this is what the characters look like 99% of the time in the manga, but avoid it anyway just because they were turned off by the colored lineart.
I love 80's shoulderpads in manga.
The image with Est in the Black Knight cockpit is really cool.
>Yeah, because that's totally what I was thinking of when I watched Geass.
I didn't have such an issue. They had enough differences to tell them apart. Then again, I don't have any problems with Leiji Matsumoto only knowing how to draw three or four different types of human beings that all look very similar (beautiful women, brave men, potato heads, etc.).
Nor with having non-Gundam characters who look like Char or Amuro in some of the manga works from the same character designer/animator.
There's plenty of fetish and nudity stuff scattered around in FSS.
Because Z Define is less a 'The Origin' style expansion of the world, more Kitazume just rewriting and retuning Z to be more in line with his work on CDA.
It's certainly not being treated with the significance of The Origin in any case.
Not that Anon, but I'm cool with the choice of authors personally. It really fits because of their level of involvement in their respective series (yas with 0079, Kitazume with Define). Anyways I find Define a pretty decent manga, even with its few flaws, but I digress.
>level of involvement
Kitazume really wasn't that big a player in Zeta though.
He handled animation on 8 episodes (kind of scattered throughout the series) and the animation on the OPs and EDs.
Pretty far cry from Yasuhiko's level of involvement in MSG.
You know what Nagano's designs remind me of? Those Winx Club girls from that old cartoon. Except they look better.
I wonder if anyone is crazy enough to make a kit with all those parts.
There's one for the red grunt one too.
So what do you think of the GTM designs, Archive?
>all those power cylinders
Why does this remind me so much of a Bionicle?
Did we ever get to see that thing do anything?
Also, this is my favorite GTM so far. The new KOG could become it depending on the lower body. Same with the new LED to a lesser degree.
Better pic of how the knees work found on some forum. Looks delicate as fuck.
I think pistons have been eliminated in the Gothicmade designs and replaced with these rail joints.
I almost forgot about that one. I still find it funny that this design came out like a decade before Keetongu.
I know you're trolling, but >>11007010 has a closer resemblance to >>11006943 than pic related.
Also, Bionicle came way after FSS.
And you guys accuse Nagano of making sameface designs.
Umetsu does draw nice tits and ass though. I guess if Nagano slapped that on his women, people would drool all over them too (just like Kimura's).
>Haruhiko Mikimoto, Yasuomi Umetsu, Hiroyuki Kitazume.
Isn't it funny how all three of them are prominent 80's designers, as well as Nagano?
Why are modern character designers so shit?
>Why are modern character designers so shit?
It's because the only good ones left are the 80's leftovers like Mikimoto or porn artists.
I can't tell if you're trying to be funny or if you really are stupid enough to jumble together an insult of such poor quality
I've said stupid shit like that as a joke but you seem too upset to be joking
Man, I have to hand it over to Nagano for doing character design that hit all the right spots.
Pic related and Christine V are just plain perfect.
I want to see this guy make his own Super Robot manga so bad. He would make much more money off of that than his awkward h-scenes.
Seriously, this guy draws doujins better than most mangaka draw fully-funded manga. This is OPM-tier stuff.
Hopefully he'll be like Boichi and branch out of making doujins later on.
You know, the transparent armor and face design are a lot more accurate to the description than the original LED.
It looks more like a dragon now with the horns and the armor is semi-transparent. Still have no idea what the thing on the back of it's head is supposed to be. I like the earrings, though.
So the guy who made the GTM MK II made a MK II in pilot-mode.
I hope he colors them.
The last Nagano thread someone posted this fanart of his for Phantasy Star IV. He ended up doing a few designs for PSO2 based on this too.
Are you saying the plamo threads are only for Gundam?
>This asspained faggot again
haha the butthurt is still STRONGK with this one
It's on /toy/.
Anyways, this faggot along with a few others are known for trolling the Gunpla Generals whenever some kit that isn't Gundam shows up.
Why do the /toy/ Gunpla Generals have so many more trolls than here on /m/? Every time I go there people are bitching about large image sizes, and a few threads ago there was even a huge argument over "autism bucks".
/m/ may have more snappers, but at least the GG's are clean.
