This is the best the show is ever going to look, isn't it?
I mean, no offense Hat, I know that you've put work in this and I respect you like hell, but this... doesn't really look that good. Kinda saddens me that the blurays probably won't be too different.
Are you saying my hype and hope and dreams on the 1080p version of Our War Games is all but well-placed? Or was Our War Games done on film, giving us something to look forward to in the BD version of the movie?
Unless Toei's hiding a pure digital master and the BDs are upscaled in a non-destructive manner (both of these things are incredibly unlikely), probably. The one they used for the DVD box is a composite capture or something, so it's full of ugly artifacts like dot crawl and rainbowing. Most of Toei's early digital shows suffer from this.
Admittedly I think Bunny Hat could have done a better job filtering that stuff, but it's not going to change the fact that the master is utter garbage.
The original pilot movie was shot on film, but Our War Game was all digital. Half the scenes look like they were drawn in MS Paint.
S-surely you jest? ;_; Are you saying pic related is the best quality we're gonna get? I doubt Toei has an upscale magician.
Not him but I regard it as beautiful. It's not Stardust Memories, but it's memorable with its image and visual. These were taken to the modern day "Summer Wars" and one can instantly remember where it was from.
Now I know the truth, everything seems so bleak...
Now I want to watch it again. I can look past the terrible quality, and you should too, otherwise you'll have to avoid watching a lot of classics just because the video is not perfect, and that'd be just dumb .
Bad subs shouldn't keep people from watching stuff either. I'm watching Saint Seiya and it may as well be in another language because the subs go from amazing in the first few episodes to absolute shit.
No, this is another matter entirely.
Bad video is acceptable because if that's the best we are ever gonna get, there's just no helping it.
Bad subs shouldn't matter when you can just learn Japanese, which would be piss easy if you've spent at least a year watching animu.
>learn Japanese, which would be piss easy if you've spent at least a year watching animu.
But it's true, anon.
If you've been watching enough animu and are not a complete retard, a few grammar and vocabulary classes (probably a year's worth) or the equivalent in self studying is enough to understand about 80% of spoken dialogue.
Learning to read is harder, but not necessary for animu so that's beside the point.
You're making a bunch of rather dumb assumptions here mate.
1. Where's your evidence of correlation between enjoying writing and intelligence?
2. Why do you believe I don't enjoy writing because I didn't back in freaking Kindergarten?
3. Why do you believe that fan-fiction isn't cancer?
1. I was mostly kidding. I doubt enjoying writing at a young age is an indicator of low or average intelligence though.
2. I don't. Again, I was mostly fucking with you because you were being an asshole.
3. I do think that, but not in the context of a kindergartener writing it. If a kindergartener has the imagination and passion to write a lot of fan-fiction, more power to them.
Sorry, but I don't find it that good. The concept isn't bad, but the writing is sloppy.
I could elaborate more but I can't really be assed, specially when I'm not that good a critic anyways.
By the way, fuck 4chan and its not-loading captchas.
If it's Toei, it doesn't matter what the original source material is, it's going to be upscaled.
But because it's digital doesn't mean shit. If the company still has the original digital elements saved, it's only a matter of resizing and MAYBE retouching a color here and there, and it's perfect; the issue is when the elements weren't saved (like FLCL) and the only choice is to do an upscale.
(The extras on some of the volumes are going to be a pain in the ass)
I thought /m/ loved Xros when it was airing?
Also how are Frontier and Savers? I'm working through Digimon at the moment, but I don't ever really see anyone talk about them much.
Then again, I've been avoiding Digimon general to avoid spoilers
Damn, you're blowing my mind here dude. It's not perfect because Metal Seadramon is either the 2nd water or the 2nd metal depending on what you count him as, but still, that's impressive. I wonder if it was intentional.
I need to watch Xros Wars already. Saw the first two episodes a couple of years ago and wasn't digging it, nor the fusion digivolution. But it's not like I have any alternatives when I need my fix.
Back to Digimon, Adventure 02 has the kind of fuckup that only Toei could pull off.
The OP gets updated at episode 26. No problem there. But the textless version got corrupted at some point, because at 29, you get pic related. And you get pic related for every following episode until it gets fixed for episode 41.
There's going to be a noticable increase in video quality with episode 40 of Adventure 02, as Toei switches to component masters. And this is in the middle of a disc.
However, this is Toei. Any footage originally from episodes before 40 is still from a composite master, so stock footage will still be raindowy and dotcrawly
Thanks you for these new raws, BunnyHat.
I'm actually looking forward to Zero Two now.
Hey man, I only watched the first two episodes with the form/s I didn't really like the look of. I'll probably like it by the time it's over. At the time it was new and scary and the first two episodes weren't terribly engaging.
Did I mention that I watched it two years ago? Excuse me for the term I used, which I knew was not the correct one but rather literally what it is. It being used in the dub is completely coincidental. Sorry for not calling it whatever the correct name is.
But yeah I guess I'll start watching it soon.
OK, looking through bits of 40-50 of 02, not all of the old footage is from composite masters. But a lot if it is, witth no basis for what sequences are composite and which are component.
In episode 42, you have the standard S1 digivice evolution shot (almost always accompanied by the ~bwaaaaaaa~ from the start of Brave Heart). That's taken from a composite source. The very next shot is the full Gabumon to Garumon sequence, taken from a component source.
So yeah, Toei had no consistent archival policy, even when it came to animation they knew they'd be reusing for a year.
Adventure 02 raws are up
Well I hope not. I placed an order for both the 15th anniversary blu-ray and the compilation of movies. Though I did so via Amazon Japan, so if the previews are crap, I'll cancel.
Tamers, though? Tamers looks great. Component for everything.
My favorite digimon
It's going to be whatever the broadcaster has. Sometimes, this is better than anything available on home video. Take Showa Rider, except for the two Kamen Rider Black specials, Toei Channel has broadcast every episode from new HD masters made from the original film, while the DVDs for X, Amazon and Stronger are all taken from old composite tape masters.
Well I wonder whenever Digimon Adventure and 02 were even broadcast with component tapes or plain digital composite.
Btw if you mention the original film. Just have yourself informed that Toei had archival policy of junking all magnetic audio for their TV shows. That's why movies sounds way better than any of their stuff.
The Adventure and Adventure 02 DVDs are probably similar in quality to what the broadcasters got. Home video releases are, at worst, going to be made from the same masters that are used to make the broadcaster's masters.
Except it's Toei and they are a weird company when it comes to things like this. The DVD release of DBGT had way worse audio than the reruns of Animax and other japanese stations.
It's a human with an army mostly consisting of dragons and metal and metal dragons being brainwashed by a great villain (Darkknightmon) into serving because the blackmailed one failed
and the OTHER other one was kept in reserve
I liked Xros. Except the third season of it.
More mind blowing stuff if you weren't paying attention - three of the four Dark Masters were the ORIGINAL evil Ultimates.
The exception is MetalSeadramon, who replaced the less threatening looking Pukumon.

I'm not quite sure what this means.
Nice, this is what I've been waiting on here.
In the meantime, since there's a lack of easily gotten hold of softsubs for Adventure 02's first movie, I threw this together: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/17827108/Digimon_Adventure_02_Movie_1_Softsubs.rar
DmonHiro's softsubs for the two halves put together, in three flavours; original black/white, one to match the font used in the series, and one to match the font used in the other movie. Enjoy.

They have those creepy things at the stage greetings for the second 02 movie, both Tamers movies and the Frontier movie. They may have had them at the one for the first 02 movie, but that's only on he retail disc, and I was only able to find the rental.
