Group build is finished, and we have winners for the straight build category and custom categories. Entry photos link in end of OP. Picture collage, and honorable mentions to come(?)

For those of you just joining us, please read this guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

>Want to get some HLJ sales
My advice would be practice by cutting up extra backing paper for waterslides into small "Katoki-warning-label" sized bits, and then move them onto a dummy model.
It definitely took me awhile (cut my decaling speed in half easily) when I first got them, as I'd been doing waterslides since I was 8.
After I did some practice (and used up most of my extra warning/caution markings) I had basically retrained my muscles to work with the new system.
Nope. Most places won't even allow for 1 MG + AB in a SAL box.
Depends on the MG Box, some of the older MG boxes are "smaller" than the new standard which is wide flat boxes instead of tall skinny ones.
Typically you can only do 2 to 3 HG boxes for a SAL shipment depending on how small the HG boxes are.
this looks cool as hell i hope it gets a kit
>Getting more Gunpla this Christmas
It's like a dream and nightmare put together. Six more kits deep and I'm crying for mercy and more.
What if it folds the other way?
Working on this guy, the design grew on me. Except the damn sword weighs a ton for the poor dude.
Nice. I've always loved the Destiny. Already have the MG one and I plan to get the RG sometime next month.
You could always try to tighten the joints around the arm so it can hold the sword better.
we team /UK/ now
Saw this at the sale. (went there again today. I DO WHAT I WANT OK?)
Good purchase? I shouldn't because I haven't watched space battleship yamato before and it's probably because it's pretty discounted that I was thinking of getting it.
>I like the look of this (hygogg), let's get it.
momis a zeon supporter.
so not really gunpla, but based in a show about gunpla... so semi gunpla? Anyways have Rinko swimsuit.
>still no Fellini's girl, still no Fellini, no Gyanko or her following. None of the male pilots.
>implying you're a girl when posting a pic of a trap
>implying you're not a trap
>implying you think you're a trap when you're actually a dude with a purse
>implying it's not a DBZ man-bag
They decided to do a weird thing with MG F91, Crossbone, and Turn A where they don't have polycaps at all. It lead to the whole thing being really loose and wobbly.
Or at least the Turn A is. Can't speak for the F91 and the Crossbone since I don't have them.
You can fix this problem with some Pledge Future, but OOB, yeah.
F91 and Crossbone are also really small. I think MG Crossbone Full Cloth is about the same size as HG Sinanju?
>hard because you're a girl
this is the best i can do right now since everyone is awake in the house sorry
I have a display shelf that can take around half a dozen gunpla.
At the moment, my plans are to have RX-78-2 vs Char's Zaku, and Unicorn vs Sinanju.
What should I have for the other pair? My first idea was Exia vs Graham's Flag Custom, but that's not very dramatic.
4chan hates girls who mention their gender when it's not relevant in the slightest or try to attention-whore.
thread was back on topic
but then you post this
The only reason you'd need to play multiplayer is if it's fightan, otherwise you're wasting your time.
Unless it's the Borderlands series, that's too fun to not play with others.
I still have yet to build mine. Do the beam saber holster things actually swivel, or are they stuck like that?
Go for the 00 Raiser vs Susano'o? That was a pretty hyped fight. Either that or Exia RII and O Gundam ACD.
doin' what I can to bring it back.
someone posted this in the last thread, so here is my first gunpla, and my most recent (luckily I just finished something)
>My Aunt comes in my bedroom
>Sees RG Freedom and HG Akatsuki
>Calls them "those kiddy thingy", in a playfull way, but still hurts.
>I was going to say that they are even 50 years old building these "things" but she went away already
One more leg and then it's PARTY TIME.
WIP, but I discovered that the peg on the Action Base 2 fits perfectly for the X-Wing
>managed to push SAL to the limit and just get my 3 HGs sent that way
I want to get a pin vise. Can anybody recommend a good one? Also, are there any good videos on how to properly mask? I can't seem to get it done right.
I'm trying to take my kits up a notch.
HG never. It's a shame that HGFC isn't getting the love it needs.
I fucking love these designs.
If there was ever a HG of that, I'd mod it to have beam skates, a beam hockey stick, and a purgeable set of react armor Goalie Pads.
So, in summary, a full armor Goalie mode for tanking hits and a high mobility Player mode with brutal cross checks and beam puck slapshots.
Canadians are nice and all... until you put ice skates on them and a hockey stick in their hands.
Your weathering doesn't look like weathering so much as just dirt, like a dog rolling around in the mud. When doing weathering, you need to think of the cause of each piece of weathering and to what extent. Water streaks for aquatic suits. Mud on the feet for ground suits. Laser burns on shields, and so on. That weathering is just too uniform and sloppy.
Due to an unfortunate mishap, I now have a Sinanju with only one foot.
Instead of buying a brand new one for one part I come to /m/ asking what I should kitbash my Sinanju with.
I was thinking a Rozen Zulu. Though a friend keeps wanting me to kitbash a Sinanju with an S/Ex-S.
>taking this fucking long to do an HG
We've finally arrived at waterslides
/m/ liked the Lightning Gundam more than the Build Burning when they were both revealed. /m/ didn't like Build Burning until after the first episode aired when they saw it in action for the first time.
The only opinion that hasn't largely changed is Winning Gundam.
I think that's mainly because in anime the Lightning is more of a white color. In kit it's a minty blue.
Also having to buy the BWS separately is a bit of a kick in the face.
Hey I'm doing the same! Cept I'm making use of those shoulders with their delicious hard point.
Futaba is having a Modelers' Expo thread.
All of those holes in the kit where things can be attached.
I hate whoever designed the hands for this, they won't hold the beam gattling quite correctly.
MG F91 is fine and the only lose bit is where it connects to the upper arm just above the elbow. The rest is tight and has been in the same pose with pretty much no droop for 8 months now
Have fun making it hold the rifle
I plan on getting a couple, I'm liking that it's mostly just for customizing
Exia vs reborns gundam
Looks nice but the weathering looks like if it was left out in the dirt for a couple years
Looks nice man, how's the quan-t? I kinda want one
Without a doubt, it is the best kit. Does this mean that we will also be getting a HGUC R-Jarja in the future?
HG? Simple, lots of ARTICULATION, few stickers in places. Beam green parts react to UV which is nice. Keeping the empty runner just in case I want to make beam sabres out of them in the future.
Official waterslides for them are long and fragile. Frustratingly so.
Can't wait for my RG Exia to a company Lil bro Qant!
oh god I'm turning into ANT
Damn it. All you assholes post the [Q]ant is making me want it more an more.
I really want it in red though. God that'd look nice in red. If only there were orange translucent parts for it.
I was just asking about the MG f91 in here a couple threads ago and no one really had any complaints. I know about it being without polycaps but it didn't sound like it was that big of a problem.
Anyone here actually own this thing?
The GM Quel, GM Custom, GM Type C (Space or Earth Type), Gundam Ground Type, GM Sniper, GM Ground Type, Dom & honorable mention to the Rick Dom.
All of those have 2-3 guns + 2 beam sabers and some cool gimmicks. Except for the Rick Dom who only has 2 guns & a beam saber, but it also has the coolest accessory, the giant Beam Bazooka.
It's a perfectly fine kit. Being ABS on ABS joints means continued re-posing over time will take it's toll but it's stable, fairly solid (feels a bit weak because it's so thin & small but it's really not), has a solid number of accessories, gimmicks that work flawlessly, and great articulation.
The only two complaints I have about the kit are with the F91 Harrison Custom, as it has to use an abundance of yellow stickers to make up for a lack of color, and doesn't come with the stand.
Because dirty zeeks are always all like OH MUH BURGER and Christina gets shafted.
I like Bernie, by the way. But Christina does not get enough love and thus the Alex.
I actually have the HG Harrison but its sitting in my backlog until I learn to paint, cause those yellow stickers are rough. And this MG looks beautiful
For Peel & Stick decals or Dry Transfers, there's not much you can do but hope you get the application right the first time.
For anything Peel & Stick, I use a 3M Nylon Spudger to flatten them out some and help remove any air bubbles.
If it's waterslides, then you'll want to get some decal setting & softening solutions to help them mold better to your paint or plastic, so they look like they're one with the armor.
For Peel & Stick or Waterslides, sometimes trimming down the excess on the edges can go a long way.
>there will never be a HG of the Lumber Gundam
>there will never be a HG of the Nether Gundam
>there will never be a HG of the Tequila Gundam
Cry with me, G Gundam fans.
Cut around the sticker on the sticker sheet with a knife, leaving the and line it up to where it's supposed to be placed. If it looks too big, you can trim it down the finally peel and stick when you're happy with the size.
You have to make sure to airbrush in quick movements that are a fair distance away from your subject. That way you can't cover it with too much paint and you can build up from that to reach the level that you want.
Cover or inside cover of the Mikimoto Into The Sky art book. Scans of it should be easy to find.
>hiding your hobby
enjoy ending up with a bitch that gets disgusted at your favorite things.
Just be honest tho. If they don't accept it, they aren't worth your time. Be with someone who's happy with who you really are. There are plenty of qts out there who are fine with it.
If she's specifically concerned about you watching mecha anime, then she must watch anime too I presume?
Get that bitch to watch Build Fighters and she'll happily build gunpla with you.
I'm now building her a cute one for christmas
It's an Acguy
I hope the G-self gets an RG. The HG ddoesn't totally do it for me and I think it would look amazing in the RG style.
Also I really want to stick my dick in those leg thrusters. Like holy shit, those calves are amazing
Are you even trying to be kawaii~?
Yeah an RG could probably end up looking pretty nice
at least you're not like me
I actually made a separate facebook account so I could comment on pages without people finding out I like anime and gunpla.
I feel kinda bad right now.
>Implying the Acguy is not the most adorable mobile suit
>I actually made a separate facebook account so I could comment on pages without people finding out I like anime and gunpla
>Bearguy Box on the Bearguy box
I just realized. This means that in universe for Build Fighters China's custom Bearguy is so popular that it got it's own kit which Mirai used as a basis for hers.
I'm not the biggest R-Jarja fan but Gyanko's version is pretty cool.
I'm already trying out gold paints and different yellows to replace that ugly puke gold it comes in though.
>Goldilocks And The Three Beargguys
If only she had been given a figure
The Dom is pretty much the beginning of the "2.0" style as it has almost a full inner frame, individually articulated fingers with a peg system for the hands, moveable mono-eye, etc.
Besides a few ugly seams on the weapons and the fact that the hands are technically not compatible with 2.0 weapons, the DOM is a very solid kit.
As for the GMs, they're not bad but they're also not complicated. They all have minor small problems with some joints being a tad loose, or holding the gun not being as easy as it should be, but those are all easily fixed.
The proportions, molded detail, etc are all still very solid.
I would say that any MG previous to the Dom should be avoided unless you want that goofy looking Zaku I.
As for kits after the Dom, some are still solid and others have 2.0s or VerKAs that I would choose over them.
For those that don't, the only really bad ones I can think about are the G04/G05, Alex, ZZ / FAZZ, & Gun Cannon.
I will say that a few kits before the 2.0s are a bit lack luster but there is nothing terrible about them including the Rick Dias, Hyaku Shiki, & Hi-Zack.
Don't judge a kit by it's age as some more recent kits are just a nightmare to work with sometimes.
I built my ex a beargguy for Christmas (it was a thing). She loved it. Even after we broke up, she still has it displayed in her house.
I hope, every once in a while, her new boyfriend looks into those cold black eyes and can hear my voice whisper words of hatred on the wind.
Banzai hobby is having a sale right now, but the shipping gets larger the more stuff you put in. Now, that's an obvious outcome, but I'm wondering if it's exactly worth it? Will it be cheaper to just purchase the kits from somewhere else?
Anyone else have that feeling of where you have a big backlog but feel jaded towards it? Then suddenly you just grab a random one and go to town on it?
Happens with me too often because I have too much other shit to do than build kits.
Going to build my first MG
Zaku II J type 2.0
PSA: Never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever take a can of KRYLON COLOR MASTER to a kit. That shit will never come out. Paint thinner, Isopropyl, and Oven cleaner don't do shit to take it off. It will NEVER go away ever no matter how much you scrub. - The guy with a ruined Zaku III
There are some damn impressive models there. I love the Best of Show one with the car workshop, especially. I also like how all those dioramas have little wooden bases. So classy.
I would have just said I already build tem
I don't really hear people use that term unless they like anime or well, mecha stuff. I think it's safe anon
with the upcoming MG Gundam XX, what Gundams that are main suits or main suit-upgrades are left for the MG line, V2AB is an obvious one, there are no AGE-3 or AGE-FX, but that's (I assume) because they made 6 MGs of the first and second season which didn't do well.
And there's the matter of Ver. 2.0-editions. I assume most of the stuff before Aile Strike needs it, I'd love a GP-02 and Ground Type if nothing else
>Genkai nante nai!
gold, metallic red and metallic purple make this guy stand out so much
it is also an incredibly simple kit
painted the small backpack in gunmetal to differentiate it from the rest of the joints, with some luck, tomorrow I'll be done with this kit
I have yet to find a coating that pic related cannot remove.
I'm gonna tell you the same thing someone told me when I was in your shoes: Slow your fucking roll, homie.
You're going to start getting hooked on buying and collecting rather than building. You might start rushing kits to get through your backlog and the quality will suffer for it. You might look at your backlog and have so many things to pick from, that you choose nothing. At worst, you may end up like my friend who had a bad day and stopped caring about buying food - he just went for the quick satisfaction of buying a few more kits.
Try not to blow literally all of your money on kits. It's not good. "Plastic crack" is a fun joke when you're not broke.
So I'm in need of some advice.
I completed the Koto 1/60 Laevatein then I realized that it doesn't have the orange lining.
I'd paint it but that would require me to take it apart. The parts are so stiff and difficult to take apart that I don't want to risk breaking anything. So I'm wondering if gundam marker would suffice?
Pic related, my 1/60 Laevatein...
This man is correct. I wish I could take full advantage of Banzai Hobbys sale but because our accounts clerk screwed up my weekly pay, I have to wait to fuel my addiction.
And of the weeks she chosed to fuck up. This week. This damn week.
My suggestion wouldn't be the best on how to go with it due to never doing a Koto. Personally I'd sand, prime, paint then coat to seal it. I'm sure another anon would be wiser with this situation.
First, buying Koto? Lol, well hope it lasts more than a few months.
This. Get masking tape.
What? You can just sand it down a little bit with a medium grit 1200 to 1600, then a finger grit 2000-3000 and you'll have a surface that will accept paint fairly well
>never, ever want paint to come off
you want the paint to come off when you want it to and not to come off when you don't want it to.
also, paint that -truly- doesn't come off uses chemicals that will kill you.
I'm not sure why put step 12 is giving me issues all of a sudden. The first time it went well now they 2nd time it wont stay together or pops off easily when moving the arm around.
Yet I didn't have any issue with the unicorn mode kit doing this step.
Am I just being an idiot or did I fuck up?
yeah it was at Tatsu hobby... how did you know... what a small world lol
yeah it really was a nice place, I'd go there more often, but i'm just visiting norcal for the holidays
>tfw A+ qt 3.14
Its been my main store for a while now, and your description seemed to fit pretty well.
Just curious, what's so exciting about norcal? I've always found the area to be pretty dull, but maybe that just comes with living here.
i guess not too many gunpla stores have tables laid out for people to build?
anyways, there's literally nothing exciting about norcal, never said it was, just visiting for family here. i guess if you want exciting stuff, you have to visit SF... their japantown is pretty nice
It's hard to get them all focused, this is the best I could get with my shit camera phone.
Any better than the last one?
I dunno, only been to three stores that even carried gunpla, and Tatsu was the only one which I could call a gunpla store. I don't think there's been a time when I've gone and there hasn't been someone building something though.
Makes sense, although SF is so much of a hassle that it usually isn't really worth it.
sorry for all of the off topic
Really loving this guy.
Also adopting a name
Topcoat, tomorrow. Contemplating getting those silly cheap rotating platforms off Taobao for obvious reasons.
00Q's decals are awesomely flexible.
i'm normally in socal anyway, and i usually go to Neo Happyland near chinatown area. more of a grandma and grandpa run place, no tables for building stuff tho lol
>also, paint that -truly- doesn't come off uses chemicals that will kill you.
All paint uses chemicals that will kill you, but it will only kill you if you're dumb and don't take safety seriously.
340 yen from HobbySearch, Official Bandai ones.
There were many leftovers, and within them quite a few begging for "creative placements".
I places some small subtle ones on top of the GN condenser green stickers, so in hope they look okay below the clear acrylic.
Chinatown in LA? I'll check it out when I visit but I typically stay out of LA unless I need to do something specific. Thanks for the tip.
Nice, I go to school in Irvine so maybe I'll check it out soon. Gonna save those two on a notepad file now.
Yeah Tatsu is probably the best gunpla shop in Nor Cal. Ying Hobbies in Chinatown, SF is pretty good and has A LOT of obscure kits, but its not much of a hangout place. When I went to Tatsu, there were a bunch of people there, who were all just hanging out and building gunpla. If I lived near San Jose, I would go there all the time.
matters not when I'm matte coating it when I wake up.
Some surfaces were sanded all over, some weren't with the unsanded ones possibly being the ones you're seeing. Some nubs were 10/10 clean cut and needed no further attention or sanding, some were gouged worse than n00bs and need file > sand paper. Some sanded surface were kept to the minimum to the 1mm edge of the nub.
Sorry to break the illusion.
ITT: We post about how nice Tatus Hobby is and how we wish we lived near it
Alright, here is mine. Forgive the messy desk. I plan on getting on that Gouf after I eat.
Selling for half price now.
Heres my "tool box", although I do have tons of Testors paint that i don't use
>Tfw you snap together pieces (dat sound)
>mfw I snapped the wrong pieces together
>Insert dramatic music here
I think I can take it apart, if I'm careful af.
Hehe anyone else get those moments where you know you just done gouf'd?
I had one of those moments while building my Unicorn, I forgot the fucking grey pieces
The ankles on this thing are fucking garbage
Mines won't arrive for about a week or so.
When Bandai does small details and puts words, really makes me want to see this stuff being made first hand.
Oh it's not that, I just have no money at all right now.
It's still nice to see everyone building gunpla in here though. It gives me ideas for when I'm out of this slump, and hopefully for that kit that the really kind anon said he'd get for me and my bro: assuming we can build it and work on it during that day I have off for Christmas.
My first real "haul". Guess which two are Christmas gifts!
If a shipment VIA SAL never arrives, did that shipment even exist?
Captcha: Waiting Laworke
They're pretty fun. The frame goes together quickly, so you're just putting the armor on top of it. If you have a 1/144 hangar, I'd think that would make for an even more fun build. Lining and decaling everything is worth it, the final result is really cool.
I'd recommend the Mk II AEUG as a first RG, as it's generally the most solid and really detailed.
However, they aren't for the hamhanded. Especially the RG Zeta.
VVV wasn't that bad and Aldnoah.Zero is my favourite mecha show to air this year.
Now that I've got your attention, maybe I'll actually get this answered seeing how it keeps getting ignored every time I ask it.
I wanted to try a Frame Arms. What's a more modern one in the line that's, relative to the line, more on the cheaper end, and doesn't require a huge makeover to look decent?
There was one at my local Hobbytown, I went back the day after I saw it to buy but it was gone :_;
Found out it was a guy I know that took itBut I had to have it and I now feel fulfilled and content in life.
You're 50% right. Sengoku is going to a friend who actually builds models, X-Wing being built and given.
You adults would never understand!
sounds like someone's on their period
So I was planning on kitbashing a sinanju and old 1/100 tallgeese III. But I'm here in gundam base and looking at it oob it's pretty ass and I dont really want it anymore
You're a Norcal fag too? Sweet. I plan on going there this Thursday; gonna pick up a new MG~
That's the only part about both the QanT and the 00 that I don't like. The chest fin blocks the eyes too much, so I was thinking about shaving it off on my 00.
MG and Hazel?
This kit is really weird so far. It's like Bandai was trying to emulate Kotobukiya's tiny-ass parts and questionable engineering.
That's just the top half. This thing "transforms" Victory style. Have yet to start the bottom half.
So far it feels like I'm building a partsy no-grade.
picked up this fun little guy today for $10
money well spent for sure
HG when bandai?? ;;
So I've been watching Gundam X for the first time and now I want to build an X. That show is ranking as one of my favorite Gundams so far. I like to think of it as the logical conclusion of the UC century, even if it is an AU. But anyway, so are there any good X kits? I didn't do enough research last time I bought kits and ended up with the older version of the EZ8 and the Gouf Custom (which I'm building anyway, its still fun.)
Totally not samefagging I just happened to be at Tatsu literally next in line to check out.
To keep things somewhat on topic here's an old pic of my last build.
>still no normal kirara
Why even live?
>that feel when all the Calibros talk about their Gunpla shops and you have none.
I really feel like the Midwest is where people come to die.
I feel your pain brother. I love the Alex to death, I even love my G04 & G05, but they got the short end of the stick.
Alex was so bad that it not only got the short stick on the MG but the HGUC as well. As much as I am an MG / 1/100 fan, I have to pin my hopes on it getting a good RG at least.
Shaldoll will be hard, AGE seems to have bombed pretty bad across all lines and getting reprints of the kits doesn't seem like it will happen often.
Especially with how well the Build Fighters line is doing. Those and the main HGUC kits will definitely be getting the majority of the production run.
I choose to display all of my kits, but some that I know I can do more with or fix up easily (e.g. don't need a total repaint) I have set aside in a stack for me to work on when my current project annoys/frustrates/bores me.
I also have a secondary pile for problem kits I'm not sure what to do with. Currently that's exclusive to the FAZZ & Crossbone Full Cloth.
It was a design from R3 that left Bandai in sorta a bad spot as they were going for anime accuracy on a popular, albeit, goofy as hell design.
The other R3 Designs, like the Layzner / New Layzner, or L-Gaim Mk II are much better and somewhat encapsulate that "sophisticated" and well thought out idea of a Master Grade kit.
Same can be said for the 1/20 scale Votoms kits from Bandai.
Show your spray paints. (because end of thread)
Not much to say about mr hobby and tamiya, goes on smooth and nice.
Krylon's primer is thick (as it is with commercial ones) so more care is needed and doesn't have as smooth a finish, good for larger areas.
Still testing the matte, had frosting but that was because I sprayed too much at once.
MG X, there's HG of X, DX, X divider and airmaster which are quite recent.
>building RG Z'Gok
>loosen up the inner frame & it becomes floppy as fuck
>Decide to do handstand pose anyway
>watch as it falls in slow motion and breaks off a claw
But it gets better, I tried to see if i could fit one of the 'fingers' from the four clawed hand onto the frame of the three clawed and snapped it too.
I'm trying my hardest to forget about the RG rx-78's ankle joint incident.
>Seeing if any online stores have MG Tallgeese III up for preorder
>Gundam planet has them in stock
>Oh praise the lord for Bandai, I won't have to succumb to buying a third party model
