According to ANN The Origin I is going up on Daisuki at 12am JST. That's about 3pm GMT today.
Anyone confirmed to rip it?
Worldwide my ass. I want to see how much bullshit they'll pull of this time. Daisuki's shit is never available worldwide (except Japan) not matter what they claim each time.
So seriously, anyone ripping? I'd rip.
If I knew what the fuck I was doing.
Anime Consortium Japan will stream on-demand the newest “Gundam” series “MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM THE ORIGIN” starting February 28th, 2015 at DAISUKI.net as well as at Google Play Store and at Amazon Instant Video.
So it doesn't come out tomorrow.
>tfw I was jumping around like a kid on christmas when I realised that today was the release day, only to have it ruined by premium services.
I guess I have to wait for a rip then.
well yeah, is it the "wear gundam accessories/t-shirts and read Gundam the origin while waiting for the movie to start" kind of retarded? or the "gather in a corner with friends while badly singing soldiers of sorrow loudly" kind?
Well, I just watched it on Daisuki.
It's a mixed bag. After having really enjoyed Unicorn, it was hard not to compare the two. But there were several nagging things that stopped me from really being stoked about this.
Several of the characters are just too over the top, and pull you out of the story. There are some pretty heavy things going on, and the actions of Jimba and Dozel threw me out of the story.
I tried to give the CGI a chance, but after Unicorn, it's hard not to wish they had stuck with traditional animation.
All that being said, I really enjoyed the episode. I'm still confused on if this will just stick with Char's backstory, or if we'll go into 0079, but I get the idea that this will end with the start of 0079. I wish they had gone into Deikun's backstory more; his descent into madness had absolutely no extrapolation and I always thought of him as a bit of a messiah. His portrayal in this betrayed that.
That being said, I had fun watching it, but there were several directorial problems that stopped it from being something truly fantastic.
>His portrayal in this betrayed that.
kind of the point of his character in the origin, I think Yas wanted to put both version of zeon (the principality and the republic) as crazy earth hating warmongers so people would sympathise with them less and Deikun's murder was nothing more but a power grab by one madman from another.
I finished the first episode. Not sure quite how I feel watching it. It was almost boring after a while watching a straight rehash of the manga. All in all the animation wasn't bad, but there were a bunch of weird faces made by the characters and some strange animation errors here and there. You can see MS IGLOO nods all over the episode when it comes to stylistic carryovers and what not. Kinda bothersome if you ask me, but it is what it is. Also, for Munzo being a closed-type colony, it was odd seeing stars at night considering you should see the other side when looking up.
Just watched it (in Japanese):
- I don't know who comes off more crazy, Zeon Deikun or Jimba Ral. Those two were extremely overwrought and paranoid. But to be fair to Jimba Ral, people actually WERE out to get him, and he WAS right about the Zabis. But you can tell Ramba was getting irritated by his father.
- Two very strong women characters in a kickass sense, Kycilia Zabi and Crowley Hamon. The lesson of this first chapter is do NOT mess with either of them. Also, we see Kcyclia's... uh... her Bunch Colonies, if you know what I mean. Then there's Casval and Artesia's mother, who's gone through a lot and has to make a sacrifice for her children's sake, and there's an immense strength in that, too.
- Little Casval is so young and yet so unbelievably badass, standing up to Kycilia, taking the controls of the Guntank. And Mayumi Tanaka (Kuririn in DB/Z, Luffy in One Piece) does a fantastic job and gives him this really tough, but sensitive sensibility.
- Little Artesia is the cutest thing imaginable. I love seeing her interact with Ramba Ral and her cat, Lucifer.
- I'm not sure how I feel about some of the more comedic bits of the feature, especially when some of them feel a little out of place during dramatic moments. I do kind of like Dozle's stitches popping and blood flying all over the people he's yelling at.
- Giren Zabi seems so BORED with everything. I guess he's waiting for that war to break out to have his fun.
- Deikun's real wife is one ugly, bitter old hag, and she sounds like a spurned Randian
- Seeing Ramba Ral, Crowley Hamon, Tachi, and Clamp at that bar was really neat. I want a spinoff of that set up!
- Damn it, Sunrise/Bandai ended up with my money, anyway. But just for a rental... and probably a rental for the English dub, too.
My thoughts on Origin:
First 7 minutes isn't bad, but I can't say I'm fine with the portrayal of mobile suits. A zaku should not move like the god damn Unicorn lol. But that said, once the story shifts to 0068, things get quite good. For those that read the manga, it pretty much follows the first half of Volume 1. The episode ends with Casval and Artesia leaving Munzo. It follows the manga mostly the same from that point on. Minor stuff here and there, like Gihren playing Go when he speaks with Kycelia rather than gardening. The ova does seem to spell out more heavy handedly that Kycelia killed Sasro. But again, if you read the manga you know what to expect.
Production values-wise....well, it's definitely a step down from Unicorn. It mostly looks nice, but when there is CGI, it is kind of distracting. Especially for scenes like Ramba driving. But the CGI isn't terrible, just unfortunate. Definitely looks cheaper than Unicorn for sure.
Musically, it's not bad. Definitely not as memorable as Unicorn, but still effective at building an atmosphere. I hate to keep comparing it to Unicorn, but seeing as how it is the most recent OVA those comparisons are inevitable. One the plus side, the ending theme was pretty nice.
Well, damn. Just after I spent money to see it.
I thought the rips would at least wait a few days. You live and learn, I guess.
Still don't feel I wasted the money, though.
>OVA 2: Texas Colony coming Autumn 2015
>only been about 2 hrs since release
You make Tomino-sensei sad... and you know how he gets when he's sad, don't you?
I'm pretty sure he's talking about the animation compartment, and I agree with him on that.
Unicorn fight direction shits all over The Origin, even if 0083 shits all over Unicorn.
I liked your Megazone 23 review man, but I do have a couple tips. One your mic is way too fucking loud, especially in comparison to the video clips. Second is that the clips go on a little too long, you can probably cut your videos down to half their length just by slimming down those clips. I like what you do with the sprite shit, it's pretty neat.
Yeah, I've always had a problem with audio and clip length. It gets me in trouble with copyright flagging, too, though some companies are chill about it, like Funimation, who always releases claims when I dispute.
This is why my recommendation videos are just fucking slide shows with screenshots and artwork, because Sunrise/Bandai and TMS are big pains in the ass. But I get that they want to protect their property.
As someone who does similar reviews, I know that feel when you've finally finished a long video, wait for it to finish uploading, only for it to be slammed with a copyright claim. Shit sucks man.
It especially sucks because I'm trying to get some revenue from my videos via ads and a partnership with Frederator Network.
I get hit for music use more, though. And there is NO fucking reasoning with record companies, because they realize their industry is dead.
>OVAs will only focus on Char and Sayla BS
>Mecha and OYW is a sidestory at best
>We'll never get a modern redo of 0079 or an actual, whole adaptation of Origin
>Shitters who watched G-Reco will say this is shit and they are waiting for true Gundam with grimdark politics and story like Gundam the Origin.
>Shitters who watched this will say this is shit and they are going back to superior A/Z
Can/t wait for this to be real.
Stop spreading misinformation. Char's background will be covered up to episode 2, then we'll see the colony drop which will lead to Episode 3 the beginning of Gundam and onwards. They just don't want to just rehash and reuse the stories. Read the god damn mangas you simpletons
>Char's background will be covered up to episode 2
The second OVA will only cover the events in the Texas colony.
The third OVA will cover the Zeon Academy and the first developing of mobile suits.
I can't help but think Bandai just about blew their load on Gundam for this year. With Reconguista and Try ending on April, and Origin's next episode not coming any time soon, what will they distract the masses with? More games?
>There are people who enjoyed the CGI
This huge faggot
I honestly think the problem was more with the direction than the actual CGI. The moves were too exaggerated and the suits look like the didn't have any weight to them, but the fluidity of the suit movement just isn't something they could have done with traditional animation.
As I said in the other threads they moved like stuff in Macross does, which doesn't make much sense considering how slow Zaku II are in comparison to even the VF-1.
And while the models were miles ahead, the actual animation wasn't that much better than IGLOO.
Yeah, but they are still these bulky mechanical death machines that have their own weight to them. One of the Zaku's just kind of swung their ax really comically and with no effort and it bothered me a little.
Like I said, it's not the CGI but more the direction.
Jimba Ral was a bit senile though. There was that scene where he kept trying to put his gun back in the holster and it wasn't going in. Jimba Ral and Zeon Diekun were both certifiable.
Mobile Suit fuel can't melt steel beams.
The manga made it looked like Degwin was over worked and that caused him to die. Even if he was assassinated, it didn't look like Degwin was complicit in that plan. In addition, they made it very ambigous of who, pointing somewhat to Gihren or Kycilia, assassinated Sasro
So with this release I see we can confirm Vertical has shit-tier translation capabilities for their Origin release. Fantastic. Comparing this stuff is painful.
Subs: smooth as silk
Vertical: Highly stilted
Origin really puts paid to that nonsense about 'thing would have been better if Zeon Zum Deikun hadn't been assassinated' by making Deikun and most of followers batshit insane. The Zabis may be evil and ruthless, but at least they know what the fuck they're doing.
So is it good?
Does someone have the >>12180132 in high res?
I don't think that anything in this OVA contradicts, the original anime, although it will happen once they adapt more of the manga.
But no, animated Gundam works don't stop being canon even if they contradict each other, they're all "official".
The first scene with the Zakus was hard to follow and some of the shots of people looked off, but the Guntank fight was great. Also I like how they're keeping with Yas's shifts between comic and drama.
I disagree about how much they showed of Deikun. Tomino never intended to flesh him out, he's just a martyr for the Zabis (The actual interesting ones), and his Spacenoid theory is inconsistent and poorly understood so it doesn't matter that we never hear from the horse's ass. I'm really glad they added in the new Zabi sibling. That the Zabi family managed to take over with no suspicion always irked me.
Was the battle at the beginning the Battle of Loum? I ask this because the Black Tri-Stars mention General Revil's ship, but I remember no mention of Slender and Denim ever being in the Battle of Loum.
Oh yeah. Holy shit looking at the staff it's no wonder why the character animation was pretty nice:. They got some pretty good studios for the key animation:
Hopefully they'll stay around for episode II if the first one does well sales-wise.
Why aren't space battleships given guns on their inferior aspect to provide defense against fighters or other hostiles from closing from "below"?
The Federation ships do, with the exception of the Salamis which is completely blank on the bottom. It's actually Zeon that is the worst about this. Zeon designs always have their firepower located on one side. That's not inherently a bad thing though.
While it would seem advantageous to have a large quantity of cannons to fire in various locations, that also means that you have less cannons to fire at any one particular target. So if you're a Magellan and you have cannons on all four sides, you're weakened if the target isn't directly in front of your ship and therefore within the firing arc of all your weapons.
That also makes the Magellan a lot more expensive to produce, because you're basically making four ship decks with cannons and placing them on a single ship.
So is it better to have a ship with cannons on all sides, or a ship with a lot of cannons on one side?
Also it's worth noting that cannons generally are limited vertically, so if you put cannons on the bottom of a ship that doesn't help it very much in fighting against mobile suits or fighters. The Salamis is the odd man out for the Federation in not having any weapons on the underside, so it has to rely on weapon mounts on the side to hit targets below (which isn't a huge deal, really. They just have to rotate slightly).
Having a wedge shape that allows the guns to all be brought to bear in the forward direction while also being able to rotate to cover the space "above" each gun seems like something that might make sense.
its so hard watching the scenes with hamon and ramba, knowing how they are going to die.
but it was cool seeing some minor characters like the black tristars.
but i dont think i liked dozle he seemed a bit to silly compared to when he was in msg.
and seeing kycilia naked was cool i guess
just when i thought it was impossible to improve on perfection.
The rise of subs came from the days of long ago, before the popularity if anime on home video, when content was edited both for time and content. Those days are long past.
Please, enjoy a dub!
It can't be helped, valued customer.
>Those old anime style detail-free nipples you can only notice because they're slightly colored differently
Is this the only old timey stylistic choice in this OVA, or are there more?
Anime dubs are renowned for being bad because they're poorly produced, not because of some sort of fundamental problem with dubbing as a concept
If every dub was like a Disney Ghibli dubs then only crazy people would hate them. But most of them are more like the Funi DBZ dub instead i.e. hot garbage
Neither are women.
The shapes of the faces change depending on the scene and angle and shit. It looks like 0079 would have looked if they'd had the skillset to do it back then.
Also pic related.
>TFW I tried to Bing image search it and got a screenful of straight-up bestiality.
Well, at least now I know that Bing doesn't give me Google's dumbass sanitized search results bullshit.
>If every dub was like a Disney Ghibli dubs
Not that anon, but I don't think they're that great. Sure, some voices fit and work their parts well, but then there are others whose voices sound rather awkward on a character that doesn't look to fit said voice. Let's not even get into some of the script changes done on a couple films..
Ghibli dubs are fine. There are also a few game dubs that are pretty good (FFXII/Tactics are probably the high water marks). Like the anon said, it's about how much effort (and money) they put into it.
Probably the compression/downsampling. There was a hell of a lot of talking in that game and they kept the entire thing to one dual-layer DVD. But the quality of the voice acting was so good that I barely noticed.
It makes me sad because even though XIII's actors were more naturalistic and did a fairly good job, they were given a shit script and obviously weren't able to do much with it.
Hope your realize that this picture is a fake fabricated by the Nazi propaganda. Real life just doesn't work like that. People that are important later aren't always on site when something important happens before that.
