Is this still the undisputed best robot game of all time to this day?
What is Assault suits valken
What is Bangai-O
ZOE is damn good tought
What if, Kojima worked with Platinum Games again to make ZoE3?
Raiden was able to throw Rex and flip Excelsus.
What would be Jehuty's limit if it was warping space and gravity around itself?
In what respect? As a Metal Gear game? Maybe, but as an action game it was quite excellent.
ZoE is very much an action game. An action game featuring giant robots with all kinds of absurd abilities that can all be justified as "Metatron did it". This shit was taylor-made for Platinum Games to go nuts with. Platinum can take this shit and crank it up to eleven.
High Speed Robot Action.
Tactical Espionage Action
One of those taglines is exactly up Platinum's alley. Hell, for a launch ps2 title the fights, especially with Neith were pretty fucking crazy.
Armored core 4 is.
>Raiden was able to throw [Ray] and flip Excelsus.
>What would be Jehuty's limit if it was warping space and gravity around itself?
Jesus, could you imagine the Platinum version of the Zakat fight?
>throwing Raptors around and dodging lasers while skating around the outer part until you make your way to the weak spot
>boss health gets red
>cutscene showing Jehuty making a clean vertical cut along the top of its head
>Jehuty sticks its hands into the cut and begins pulling it apart until a visible tear appears going down the entire enemy frame
>Jehuty pulls Zakat completely in half, and throws both pieces to the ground
>MASH L & R
>Jehuty begins charging a burst shot on each hand and hurls them at the two halves, obliterating them
Yeah until AC4 came out ZOE2 was the only mecha game that really felt like you were playing a robot anime.
You had so many moves and the control was great--you could make the battles as flashy as you wanted to.
If you could customize your mech and play online in big maps in teams of 6 v 6 or something ZOE would have been better. Why did Kojima never make a third one? Is Metal Gear just more interesting to him?
Anyway, half the Armored Core games are better than ZOE if you actually want to pilot a mech and make something no one else has.
>Is Metal Gear just more interesting to him?
Less that and more Kojipro being a bunch of incompetent fucks who can't do a thing without him. They screwed up so bad on Rising he made them do a 30 minute video on how bad of a job they did and how Platinum made the final release possible as punishment.
> They screwed up so bad on Rising he made them do a 30 minute video on how bad of a job they did and how Platinum made the final release possible as punishment.
Wait... really ?
Where can I find that video ?
I'm joking about the punishment part but it certainly feels like it when members from Kojipro flatout admit they fucked up on camera and talk about Platinum saving the game. I can see Kojima making them do that as humiliation in hopes that when he has them work on a Metal Gear game in the future they won't have to call Kojima again to save their ass.
Watching the video I can understand what you mean. I would think the same.
And it would sound credible for the one director who put its whole team through military training to make MGS 4 or 5
Yeah because you can do a better job than a ballistics computer that knows how to adjust your stature and arm position to best hit the target, not just some shoulder gimball telemetrically following a cursor.
It was basically a parody, wasn't it?
ZOE had the brains to show things break, that they have limitations both technically and in our understanding. For all metatron was, it was almost a character in and of itself and had the potential to be fucking terrifying, like the force was in the original starwars movies.
What made ZOE work was they depicted the machines outside of combat with a sense of weighting and huge huge amounts of personality like huge metal avatars.
Platinum Games pick up a title and they practically make a parody out of everything they touch. ZOE was actually kind of gritty in its own way. You *do* know about the implied pederasty between Nohman and Dingo in the original translation, right? Its why the body language and dialog makes a lot less sense in the English version.
So basically an ultra-scripted quicktime event fight? God I fucking hate those. It removes your power to make any decision from the fight, takes you OUT OF THE FIGHT and reminds you that you're playing a fucking game.
>Almost always automatically face target
>You select the distance from your target
>You have an array of attacks at different ranges
ZOE plays like this. Fighting games play like this.
Do you think fighting games are visual novels? All they did was make a fighting-game three dimensional.
Your direct vector to the target is always decided when lock is established, so you can face your target without having to worry about lateral positioning or aiming. Like a fighting game, where you almost always face your target dead on automatically.
You select distance. like a fighting game.
You have an array of attacks which work at different ranges.
Its a three dimensional streets of rage with robots, mang.
Are you fucking retarded? Are you seriously comparing ZOE to a fighting game? Shouldn't you be on /v/ where retarded shit like your post usually goes down?
Action games = fighting games now
Action Adventure games = fighting games now
Beat 'em Up games = fighting games now
Any 3D game with a lock-on mechanism = fighting games now
Any 2D game with a lock-on mechanism = fighting games now
We fighting games now
Pic related, it's a fighting game
I still can't S rank mission 8 the Massive Field Battle. All my LEV allies die too quickly. I can't kill everything fast enough.
you know I was playing xenoverse yesterday and though to myself the flying controls would be much better with ZOE's engine.
I mean press the left stick IN to descend? Who thought that was smart
>So basically an ultra-scripted quicktime event fight?
What? No no no. The fight will still be a fight, a damn involved one. More like an ultra-scripted quicktime event finisher. Very flashy.
You must be talking about the first
The second is the one which improved everything. The only thing bad about it was the voice acting. Better story, protag, side characters and most importantly gameplay.
No ones mentioned this yet? I remember there was a lot of talk abgout this not to long ago.
Because it was somewhat of a fad. It was an interesting game and there were aspects of it that were fun to play, but because it was so limited in your ability to customize (you can't, basically) I think Hawken really ended up falling flat for most people.
You can have the funnest gameplay in the world- hell you could literally recreate reality in all its wonders, but not having a good progression system will kill it. Period.
