>Cute boy as MC >Slice-of-life >Mazinger is a wild beast that destroyed Tokyo on the first episode >Grandpa is a mad scientist that wanted his grandson to conquer the world (if that's what he wish) >The Ota manga has a Dr Hell's backstory
>>12446238 I never said anything an OVA. Stop trying to call samefag, dippers. Shin Mazinger Zero is great, one of the best Mazinger series out there. If the plot doesn't make sense to you then you clearly aren't paying attention. The designs are top notch and completely modern while still retaining the style of the original. It's fucking great and if you don't feel that way then who cares
I agree, on the other hand it didn't do particularly well commercially by the looks of things and never really captured the public imagination in the way it did back in the 70s. Certainly it never did gangbusters like we'd all wish. As such I think the original question about making it more relevant to modern times the OP posed has some merit.
Personally I'd say that it's true that some aspects of the Mazinger formula could be changed to make it more appealing to modern kids. Kouji for instance could be changed from the rather outspoken and brash guy we all know and love in to a more generic nerdy kid who grows in to that cool guy over the course of a show by starting to train to be a better pilot, gaining more confidence due to social exposure as it's pilot and contact with Sayaka etc.
You could even go as far as modeling Mazinger more after God Mazinger and have it be a power armor instead of a giant mech, with Sayaka becoming a magical girl instead of getting her own power armor.
Also, get Platinum games to make a Mazinger game please and thanks. Them or someone else high profile that'll get some brand recognition in the faces of younger people basically - Platinum would be my pick though, because I love their games.
>>12446255 >Shin Mazinger Zero is great, one of the best Mazinger series out there. Funny thing you still haven't explained why it deserves an adaptation. You just said the designs are good. So? That's barely enough.
>>12446270 >Funny thing you still haven't explained why it deserves an adaptation. What are you? The committee? Here's your answer anyway: it's top notch and fully modernized. You don't like it? Well you're in the minority. Take your opinion and go cuddle with it.
>>12446258 >Personally I'd say that it's true that some aspects of the Mazinger formula could be changed to make it more appealing to modern kids. >>12445778 >Remove all personality from Kouji and make his design more generic by removing the sideburns and changing his hairstyle to something more normal so that people can self insert as him >Change Mazinger's appearance to make him more GMish and give him a gun >Replace Boss and friends with 3 generic moeblobs for Kouji's harem >Make plot pseudo deep as possible by adding as much religious elements and science terms as possible >Have T.M.Revolution do the OP
Possibly, I'm only vaguely familiar with a lot of the more esoteric Mazinger entries. Or essentially, any of the ones that never got a translation like Z Mazinger and God Mazinger. It's a fairly varied franchise though from what I can tell, with Nagai trying a lot of different things across different entries so I shouldn't be surprised that a random suggestion is similar to something he's already done.
It's pretty simple to figure out what just happened. These retards had to actually read Shin ZERO. They just saw the nice rape namek art, and thought it might look cool in anime format. The reason they can't even explain why they think ZERO is good is because they don't know shit about it.
They're basically clawshrimpy tier.
How the fuck would ZERO even work in OVA format? The story is messy and there's not much of a conclusion other than the fight continues against the Mycenae in the sequel manga. You could argue that Minerva's personal drama in wanting this time loop to end could be the whole focus of it, but then, this series require you to know at least some of the main characters to actually give a fuck.
ZERO is the worst possible way to introduce people to Mazinger. This wouldn't be a revival, it would be a disaster.
>>12446461 Kind of? It's a mish mash of a dozen different Mazinger properties and iterations, so some basic familiarity with the franchise would help. Mazinkaiser was my intro series, that did the trick. Shin's the most plot heavy Mazinger Z show though, it kind of stands out in that regard.
>>12446461 I would probably recommend starting with the manga or Mazinkaiser. Shin makes a decent enough entry point, but I think it's better enjoyed if you're familiar with at least the basic elements of the Mazinger story.
Shin is damn good, though. Easily the best thing to come out of Mazinger.
>>12446522 Biggest misuse and misfire of the Italiano pic. The difference is that italyfags just call everything shit. All I asked was what is so good about ZERO. Yet you were too retarded to even answer.
>>12446597 The Mazinger franchise is one of the ones that can easily get away with adding improvements without including a new machine. Hell, the original Mazinger just kept getting stronger and stronger with each series until MAZINKAISER.
>>12446597 Kind of crappy. The switch to early digital after the ahnd drawn majesty of the original Kaiser OVA didn't help. It's seventy minutes of Kouji watching his friends die while the Mycenaeans try to prevent him from getting in Mazinkaiser. Then he gets in Mazinkaiser and kills them all in five minutes. And it's an entertaining five minutes, but the buildup was way too long to warrant that. And Ankoku Daishogun goes out like a bitch, makes for a disappointing climax. Also no good subs for it. After a decade.
>>12446597 Mazinkiaser movie was great. Some people are miffed that Kouji doesn't pilot until the near end, but fuck them they have ADHD. It was a great remake of the Ankoku Daishogun movie. The animation, however, was a bit of a downgrade from the excellently cel animated OVA series but it's still good animation.
>>12446925 It's canon to OVA Mazinkaiser. Which is a separate continuity from Banpresto Original Kaiser, and the three or so different Kaiser manga continuities out there.
Like this guy said>>12446968, Mazinger isn't some well structured or tightly knit saga. It's not Getter Robo. It's just dumb robot manga Uncle Go makes to blow of some steam, story is secondary to that. Like Mazinger USA where Kouji is a super robot pilot in proto Warhammer 40,000 and he ends up sent to alien planet where it's like Gulliver's Travels if Jonathan Swift was heavily influenced by 80s Heavy Metal and he earns the love of the titty monster giantess Queen before being sent back to his own crappy universe.
>>12447042 The other two faggots in the Mazinger Corps., but they always die. Shin Mazinger's the only version I know of where they actually live. One of the three comic relief Professors bites it too, I won't say which one. Boss dies too, but he's immortal of course. I think he flat out says "Why the fuck should I die for you Kabuto?!"And then he chain whips Archduke Gorgon without breaking a sweat. Kaiser Boss is simply the best.
>>12448368 But it would help plebs like me who read manga at a super-slow pace get through it. Anyway, a full-length SGvNG would be cool, Especially if God Getter was a fusion of Shin Getter and Neo Getter and had fucking crazy moves like Plasma Sunshine
>>12447072 >One of the three comic relief Professors bites it
For starters, any new anime project would need to completely ditch the Nagai art style. The first thing people look at is the characters, and your average anime fan will instantly disregard any show with 40 year old aesthetics. Instead, get a character designer that worked on a popular series from this generation, like Gundam 00 or Macross Frontier or something, to hook people's interest by visual association. Then throw away all shame and pander hard to both waifufags and fujos.
If you still have time and resources after that, try to add some robots.
It had a terrible timeslot and no budget and bandai forced them to cut out minutes of footage from every episode. It could have been a commercial success but Dynamic Pro can't have a modern anime without running into ridiculous production problems.
