How does /m/ feel about lewd shots and fanservice in mecha anime? I'm alright with most of it, but in some cases like Mazinkaiser it feels like it starts to get in the way of the show.
Context is a pretty big factor here.
How overt is the fanservice? What's the tone of the scene supposed to be? Is the fanservice the focus of the scene or a bonus?
Cause depending what the context it can make or destroy a scene.
Personally, for me at least, a lot of the time it's like putting an unneccesary romance plot in an action film. I'm not here to see panty shots or sex scenes, I'm here to watch robot action and military sci-fi and junk.
That said, I do get a chuckle from it every now and again.
What one has to understand is that large portion of mecha anime creators in Japan also love titties. This is especially prevalent throughout the 80s. As such, it's pretty much a given that with any robot anime, you're going to get a package deal. First comes the robots, then you get some titties. It's not as uncommon as one might think.
I can deal with a bit of fanservice here and there but if the entire show is just fanservice or revolves around it then I'm not too into it.
I'm here for the mecha I can just watch porn if I want to see tits.
They feel extra uncomfortable because it belongs to a culture they're far removed from and unable to induce shame upon.
Reminds me of christian anime fans having to write advisories for every anime they watch based on the level of violence or fanservice. Basically proto trigger warnings.
how many people do you think Trigger triggered
How does /m/ feel about lewd shots and fanservice in mecha anime? I'm alright with most of it, but in some cases like Gundam it feels like it starts to get in the way of the show.
They only time I ever felt it got in the way of the show was Rosamia running around topless in Zeta Gundam.
Rosamia as a whole felt like she was in the fucking way of the show given the point it was in. Couldn't they have done the whole "Cyber Newtypes are brainwashed and crazy" thing earlier with Four's second encounter?
It has its place.
After all, DxD (yeah it's not mecha, but it's just an example) just wouldn't be the same if the tits weren't there. I mean there's still stuff to watch/read it for, especially in the later books, but something would just feel missing if it didn't have those titties.
>but it looks like Scryed with boobs
That's not wrong to say, but it's also kind of an inaccurate description of the show in the long run.
The author LOVES /m/ stuff though.
It's funny. I did see a lot of SJW tumblrs talking favorably of KlK when it started out. There was one in particular that was so hilariously in denial -- they thought Ryuko was going to get powerups later on that would cover up MORE of her skin (like armor is "supposed" to). I wish I still had the screenshot of that.

>but in some cases like Mazinkaiser it feels like it starts to get in the way of the show.
What is it getting in the way of, exactly?
Pretty much this. It just depends on context.
I remember one show a while back that in a super serious battle, suddenly had a chicks breasts rippling like water balloons, when this never happened before, so it just ruined the whole scene for me.
The Fafner movie was also guilty of this, with a large portion of the female cast suddenly having their tits bouncing all over the place when this never happened in the show.
>it feels like it starts to get in the way of the show.
As long as it doesn't do this shit.
Really, I'm not big on fanservice. I have unlimited free porn works for my everlasting enjoyment if I want tits and ass. I go to mecha for what I am very much not likely to get in porn: mecha.
every time. well tumblr is filled with sjws and tumblr is also filled with loud bandwagon fans. in cosplay usually the sjw are attention whores which do klk because its popular. maybe there is a connection.
Eroticism is normal and not bad at all, depending on the context in can be an even amazing elemnt (in theory). Too much is distractive, moderate tits and asses here and there are fine if the girls are just beautiful and wear nice clothes. Id depends on how it's shown. If the story is executed well, it can compensate some fanservice.
if it's pic related I have a problem. The Fanservice did not suit this shows town. At all.
One of the chicks get's eaten alive
All these artists have been involved with mecha anime and manga, all of them have drawn porn. Some of them are primarily hentai/H-doujin artists. I'm sure there's more, I didn't list any VNs for example.
Anime is full of this since lots of people get started in doujin circles, but the mecha in particular has a strong overlap with eroticism. If you don't like titties then you've got the wrong genre.
Depends on the nature of the show. Diamidaler for example doesn't bug me at all, because of the nature of the show. More serious shows, yeah, I find it to get in the way, but even then if done sparingly I'm fine.
we talked about that in far more detail than is probably acceptable
Three foot long futa Villeta cock senselessly raping Aya's ass as Ryu and Rai plug her other holes
its horror or could be a decent horror with better pacing and cutting the fanservice and cgi out. art is bad but dealable. idk where you heard the show was fun cause it definitely isn't you got baited son. eve is the level of pilot candidate most the time.
The DVD and art doesn't scream horror. Im not sure you're aware but there was a time where you couldn't find out about anime in detail online and actually had to sit down and watch it on a whim
Okay, it's called Chosen Ame, which literally translated to Korean Candy. He drew some of the pages in it. Sadamoto also contributed to the doujin with two pages of Nadia shitting herself.
I care for it but I also don't care about it.
If the show is otherwise interesting, I forgive it. If the show is shit, it's just one more reason that I didn't have a good time.
T&A isn't gonna draw me in, in other words, and it's certainly not gonna keep me.
In Mazinkaiser it aided the plot. Sayaka's perfect tits with their perky nipples and Boss' glorious hair ass were the only weapon that could help Kouji and the gang escape Ashura's submarine.
I prefer it a level below from Godannar where its instilled to the core. even the shots in Mazinkaiser or Gravion are relegated to their own corners and not strewn all over,
Also , really need more manservice
How do you feel about manservice in mecha anime?
depends on the show and the context
also, does newtype brain sex count as fanservice?
That's not true, I can't stand fanservice, especially when the show goes out of its way to include it at the expense of story or mood.
Fanservicey anime is also frustratingly problematic because it instantly limits the audience you're able to share it with.
>Hey, this anime is pretty awesome, and most of the stuff in it is fairly PG level material, maybe this is one i can share with the ki-
>out of nowhere blatant fanservice scene
>whelp, another one to lock away deep in the archive and share with no one.
To be fair getting somebody skeptical on anime can often be really difficult.
It's an extremely uphill battle and depending on the person, when you're making your sales pitch the tiniest thing can set them off and make go SEE I WAS RIGHT WITH MY PRECONCEIVED AND POORLY INFORMED NOTIONS THAT X IS SHIT.
If it's over done, it feels lazy. Like the creators aren't confident enough in their work, so they throw some tits in to keep people watching.
I don't mind it every once in a while, but fan-service won't keep me watching.
It totally is problematic though.
Trying to introduce a love of /m/ stuff to friends is hard enough without having to deal with fanservice that makes you look like like a basement dweller or some sorta pervert.
I just wish it wasn't so overwhelmingly dominant. Lots of shows don't need the fanservice, they're great on their own. They just feel they have to shoehorn it in, to the show's detriment.
anime and /m/ stuff in particular is never gonna be able to grow as a genre when it keeps pandering to Otakus with waifu-bait and feeling the need to insert lewd into everything, even plots where it really doesn't fit.
please don't strawman.
>happening to watch a show
>keeping in back of my mind whether people i know will like this
>so far, i can share this show with lots of different people who will love it.
>but for the sake of that one scene, total number of people who i could share this show with significantly diminished.
>sad, because I enjoy sharing /m/ stuff with others, and now this one can't be shared as much.
>>sad, because I enjoy sharing /m/ stuff with others, and now this one can't be shared as much.
Boo hoo. You not being able to share one out of literally thousands of shows is hardly problem and if it is then chances are you probably don't have much to contribute outside the hobby
More often than not it's totally unnecessary and only exists as a crutch.
Sometimes you get your Godannars that take it to such a level where you just have to sit and marvel at it, but that's pretty rare.
And some people wonder why everyone hates tumblr.
>The author LOVES /m/ stuff though.
To a frightening degree, later on.
Welsh Blaster Bishop = Double X
Welsh Dragonic Rook = Big O
Welsh Sonic Boost Knight 1st Form = Wild Würger
Welsh Sonic Boost Knight 2nd Form = The titular character in Kamen Rider Kabuto
>The two-stage transformation (Knight's first stage being its "Masked" Form and the second being its "Rider" Form) is also a reference to Kabuto's "Cast Off" function.
Cardinal Crimson Promotion = Freedom Gundam
Sounds like the problem is your white Christian western imperialist friends who are probably KKK members and also NRA cardholders and go to /pol/ and stormfront.
Tell those shitlords to check their privilege and delete them from your facebook, then call animal control on their racoon and have it put down.
Honestly though. It's the age old problem.
These fags seem more concerned about a potential nipslip and some fanservice than the hyper-violence that usually accompany some of these animes.
>caring THIS FUCKING MUCH about a little flesh when most popular culture (and particularly blockbuster films) is full of ripped, shirtless men and hot-to-trot women
C'mon man it's not that big of a deal.
Fanservice is fine in /m/.
No women like chinese cartoons about giant robots, so there's no possibility of SJWs infesting the genre like they did with video games.
No, I mean ludicrous landwhales/manfaces who scream the second they see a female that men consider appealing to look at.
Then they have absolutely no grounding to their arguments other than that the places they inhabit should cater to their whims and ideals.
So in short, retards.
This. The mecha genre is the highest and strongest expression of the highest and strongest medium - Japanimation. This is because there are three levels of patriarchy (Japanese culture, anime medium, mecha subgenre) insulating it from anti-art ideals. The only women here are our sisters-in-arms, the fujoshits summoned by Yun Kouga.
Long live the mecha genre, with Tomino as my holy prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and Victory Gundam as my guide (I bear witness that it is the true word of God).
Peter David wrote a story once explaining that the sudden burst of gamma radiation whenever the Hulk transformed turned his polyester pants into a fused plastic mess that didn't tear off like rags. That's why Hulk never goes commando.
That doesn't exist here!
Things are always one extreme or the other, with no ambiguity!
You either are a titty-loving chauvinist asshole or a prudish cunt who hates sex and white people!
You mean on the internet? Yeah.
Let's all just go back to funposting and calling everyone else the provocative name of the month (is it still 'cuck', or have we moved on?) regardless of applicability to the situation, subject, or individual argument in question, while simultaneously taking our ridiculous paranoia that scary outsiders want to destroy our hobbies completely seriously and expecting everyone else to do the same.
And while we're at it, let's be contrarian just for the hell of it. Gotta relive that anti-authoritarian teenage glory.
>prudish cunt who hates sex and white people!
>bunch of dirty white pirates complaining that Japan is sexist and needs to be changed to suit white people
>hate white people
Wot. What are you even talking about? Sounds like the imperialist white prudes are Eurocentrists who hate asians
I've had somebody go from arguing that japan is awful and sexist and needs to change to telling me I'm retarded for thinking it's important to acknowledge what Japanese media influenced Japanese creators leading to the growth of genre conventions or entire genres in the span of five minutes.
I've also had people go from criticizing shows for having a lot of shirtless men or homolust to praising shows as though they were complex masterpieces because it got their dicks hard.
Some folks are just incapable of accepting that something they enjoyed has flaws, or scared that if they admit it has flaws, they've lost some kind of fight about it. On top of that, a lot of people just don't have the attention span to commit to an actual argument and instead just indulge in petty shitflinging campaigns indiscriminately on whatever they find irritating, and even more intense shitflinging against against people who contradict them in any way.
The stereotype is that they hate white people, or more specifically, that they hate white men and particularly Americans.
The more things change, the more they remain the same huh?
Well for nukige, it is.
Plus you're putting it in the context of "we have to make it pornographic or it won't sell".
What about companies that just like making porn in their stuff? Do you really think Alicesoft couldn't make an all-ages version of the Rance series if they wanted to? Sure they could, the story, gameplay, and character interactions are strong enough to hold the game up. But they won't, because they like drawning naked ladies and they like the audience they have.
If they do, they're the rarest breed, at least from my perspective. A woman that loves mecha as much as we should be be cherished to the ends of the earth.
Sadly, that will never happen.
Yes, I am lonely and wish for a true wo/m/an in my life but I'll never let that quash my spirit.
I knew a girl once who hated every mecha series, with one sole exception: Aquarion
Needless to say we didn't see eye to eye
Never give up, and don't let any chances slip you by. You'll always regret it if you never try. That's the motto I live by anyways.
I think that can be classed under entry level shit. I mean, I knew a girl who loved SEED and Destiny.
Outside of her shit taste, I pre-empted her reason for liking it, asking her who her favourite yaoi pairing was.
She didn't find the question odd and answered with gusto.
It's hard enough trying to find reasonable girls who genuinely like anime and not just for agenda purposes, mecha specifically just compounds matters infinitely.
You'd still need some grounding. Can't just ask a girl to watch something like New Getter or Gunbuster if she doesn't even like anime.
Or heck, if she doesn't show a slight interest in sci-fi TV in general. You could probably find plenty willing to try but also plenty to shoot down your major interest.
Who cares about females as the only way to live your life is to reject females and society like our hero, MD Geist.
>Trying to introduce a love of /m/ stuff to friends
You failed before you even started, you boob.
Mecha anime, with the exception of brands that have gone mainstream like Gundam and Evangelion, is not crafted for the enjoyment of normies. It is crafted for degenerates.
Either you learn to accept that fact, or you reject it, but don't try to play some sort of middle ground that doesn't exist. It's only going to bring you pain.
Of course, there will always be exceptions to the rule. What you glean from fanservice varies from person to person.
What I'm trying to get you to understand is that mecha anime is a portion of anime subculture that is primarily geared towards otaku, and most otaku give absolutely zero shits about there being fanservice in their cartoons. In fact, I can guarantee you that most of them welcome it. That's simply how it is, and whining about it serves no purpose other than to make you look like a twat.
Yeah, as with most >9000 stuff it's best to wait for others to express interest and ease them into it rather than being insistent.
That's my experience with life in general though. Finding common ground is a lot easier than creating new ground entirely.
exposure = vulnerability
Actually in classical art nudity was indicative of a lot of different stuff, but got more simplistic (either innocence or a lack of innocence, usually) as time went on.
Pornography is as old as art itself though, that complicates absolutely everything.
Basically every post after this is worthless because this one got it with the first try. Any and all moaning about SJW bullshit totally missed the fucking point.
It's not about whether there are tits or not, it's the context. People who actively want fanservice in every single scene of a work are just as horrible as the people who want to get rid of it entirely. They've completely missed the point of fictional media and are basically on the same cognitive level as animals.
I wish more fanservice was like that in Bayonetta, having a strong female character showing off her ass and tits while beating the shit out of her enemies and being sassy while doing it.
But Japan in general seems to have a hardon for women crying while being in distress, so that seems unlikely.
