i'm taking a writing systems class, and i have to analyze a non conventional writing system. i was thinking of doing one from one of my favorite chinese cartoons, in particular macross. apparently there's a zentran alphabet floating around, but i don't know if i've ever seen it outright on a screen. it's obviously spoken a lot (pic related). anyone got any screens? or any other alien writing systems from a /m/ related show?
The only ones I can think of are just based on the alphabet, but replacing the letters with symbols and such, like in MJP, Votoms, and Aquarion Evol.
Not really /m/, but Ar tonelico's Hymmnos system is pretty interesting.
The author of the Banner/Crest of the Stars series if space opera books invented a proper language fir his space elves. Both the elves and the language are called the Abh. The original Japanese novels are written in both Japanese and Abh I think, though the few volumes released in English are in only English. Abh is used on occasion in the anime adaptations too.
Still, there's definitely a full alphabet floating around for it and it's definitely more than just a substitution cipher. It doesn't have giant robots, but it's the best I can think of.
yah, i found a chart for zentran, but it's just a substitution for the english alphabet, which doesn't make any sense because an alphabet of 26 characters is already confusing regarding english phonemes, let alone an alien race just happening to come to a similar number.
yah, i actually looked up futurama's al the other day, and thought it was funny >groening had to change it. convoluted, though, and doesn't actually work as a writing system, as the graphemes become agglutinated and can no longer be 'spoken', if the phonemes change depending a certain characters position.
The language is actually called Baronh upon checking, so I apologize, been years since I watched any of it. The Wikis has some details: http://seikai.wikia.com/wiki/Baronh
There should be more detailed sites out there, but the best ones may have died in the years since I was looking in to this shit.
Here, have some Solnoid as well just for good measure.
Have you seen the Gallifreyan that fans made? Shit's crazy
this is the most interesting system posted. it's neither logographic or syntactic--just bizarre. probably what an alien system would actually look like. unfortunately still deals with the alphabet.
Not exactly animu, but Warframe has a rather interesting writing system for the Orokin/Tenno.
