Some sources say he just wore it out of shame/ego whatever and didn't take it off around others. Others say he straight up couldn't take it off period. Which is correct? I feel like the second one comes from the Darth Vader parallels.
>>13433123 idk I think Mask is the worst since his motivation was so poor >people call me a kunt Rau just wanted the world of CE to burn, a true hero and frontal wanted to cuck the feddies, sounds good to me.
>>13433141 Mask was fighting for his people, he had motivations and ideals even if he didn't ultimately accomplish as much as other Char clones. >>13433157 No. There is no justification that his personal trauma could honestly claim that wiping out all of humanity, Coordinators and Naturals alike, was sensible in any way shape or form.
>>13433162 CE is pick your poison A.) Wipe out all the Cordinator scum B.) Wipe out all the Natural scum C̶.̶)̶ ̶b̶e̶ ̶a̶n̶ ̶a̶r̶m̶s̶ ̶d̶e̶a̶l̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶j̶e̶w̶ D.) Hope you're one of a princess pop stars friends while she takes over the earth sphere
>>13433209 yes, it even sounded like it was a parody of CE. the hateful racist "old human" faction was using mass produced gadelaza MAs and some kind of supersoldier engineering to stay on par with innovated human and human-ELS hybrid pilots, just like EA modified their soldiers and pilots to perform on par with coordinators and they also used mobile armors heavily.
>>13433162 >Implying Rau wasn't one of the best villains
Now I'm not exactly fond of CE but Rau was definitely a standout Char clone. This goes beyond treating him as a hero for wanting to end Seed. He was a nihilist and his goals were insane and twisted, but unlike so many other Char clones there was no weak attempt to cover it up with muh ideals, no prior baggage that makes his ultimate plan stand out as not fitting the character.
He was the clone of a madman who thought all too highly of himself, born and bred to be "perfect" but requiring a constant intake of medication to even remain alive from the onset, making for a twisted psyche. His views about CE as a whole are proven correct as humanity further advances down its pointless conflict which is only "solved" at the end of Destiny by one side posessing overwhelming power "pacifying" all the others.
The best/worst part is that this particular side is led by people who, like Rau, were created specifically for the goal to be superior, if not perfect, in the fields they wind up in. Kira was created to be the ultimate coordinator and spent a huge chunk of his life trying to avoid being dragged into conflict, yet he winds up being the spearhead for it all. Lacus was designed to be a tool of propaganda. Not only was Rau right, but the show was incompetent enough that it kind of wound up making Durandal right as well.
>>13433200 Here's the thing though. In 00 Innovators are meant to be a natural step of evolution, GN particles only accelerate the process, and the status as an innovator grants magic understanding powers that allow for proper communication with metal alien beings from outer space, never mind another human being. A closer parallel are Innovades, who were artificial beings created supposedly to assist with humanity's natural evolution but made superior to humans, much like coordinators, which led to the conflicts in the show, primarily prompted by a single asshole figure.
>>13433346 I assume he is. His whole mask's shtick is that it limits his X-rounder powers. Remember Asemu had to wear a whole helmet to temporarily gain X-rounder power. It's likely that some of the tech is tucked over those air phones. The stupid part was that he wore the helmet all the time, instead of just when he was piloting.
>>13433290 >Make bajillions of min/max evolved humans >All of them besides Ribbons himself were vastly inferior and the best henchman at the end of the day was a mudslime >Ribbons still could have won the whole thing if he spent S2 training for 5 episodes with Ali while he did jack shit between every 5 episodes >Ribbons could have won if he simply tag teamed with Prince Ali at the start of S2
Why does Amuro always gotta make decisions that involve getting himself killed?
>>13433200 >Schenberg I feel like you could insert that dude into ANY Gundam universe, and he could create a plan to magically fix everything.
Unfortunately for CE, all they got was the pop princess and Uzumi 'fuck you guys, I'm blowing up my own shit, BTW Cagalli there's a secret super robot in the basement that's almost as OP as the Freedom with your name on it that I probably should have told you about earlier' Attha.
He refuses to take it off but he also cannot as well. Whole point of the character is the mystery of who is behind the mask until the viewer realizes there is no human left beneath it and that he made himself into a machine to hide his shame of his wife leaving him.
He even murders said wife's husband with his back turned to them. He's that much of a coward.
This guy gets it. Gundam SEED is so fucking incompetent and messed up, it's own main villain comes off as one of the most likeable, sympathetic and understandable characters in the entire shit show experience. Which is easily what solidifies him as one of the best Char clones to date.
He goes bat shit insane being the unwanted incomplete clone of a financial billionaire madman intended to be waste material for him so he could cheat death, he has to munch down specifically designed pills filled with inducers to stop his telomeric genes from rapidly aging in very painful sequenced bursts, he has to constantly eat the political shit from a fucked up age of morons too obsessed with what people do with their own DNA rather than cherish even having life to begin with given his nightmare life.
His whole character is essentially a well designed and carefully laid out wake up call for humanity and even Kira hasn't a clue what to say to him in the end during their fight. He knows Rau is completely correct in all his crazy ramblings.
That is how bad they fucked up Gundam SEED, the villain speaks more sense than the hero.
>>13433254 >>13433741 So while most Char Clones had layers to their character Rau was just a one-dimensional mustache twirling cartoon villain who was butthurt at the world for being a literal clone and /m/ only likes him because he points out the obvious.
>>13433759 I think the issue is that it's clear that Rau is a madman and SHOULDN'T be allowed to kill all of humanity, the way that the antagonist groups carry themselves, they lend a little bit too much to the idea that Rau is right.
It doesn't do well that Rau says that people would want to be Kira and chase after his strength to have Kira retort that he's just a normal guy, and then have the sequel do everything in it's power to let everyone know that Kira isn't just some guy, he is THE GUY, and throw as many powerups and rankings at him as they can.
It just sours the idea, you know? It'd be like instead of Vegeta being the Saiyan Elite, he whines to Goku that Goku's the elite and that's why he's so strong, Goku says that's not the true, and then it's revealed that he's a super special breed of Super Saiyan.
Basically, if you were watching a show where the villain wants all of humanity to die, and the two factions opposing each other are pretty much Tumblr vs Stormfront, you'd root for the villain as well?
>>13433741 No, Rau does not come off as likeable, sympathetic or understandable, if you actually agree with Kill Em All Rau you should seek professional help. He's meant to be completely unlikeable, a total antagonist, the thing is that he's credible in his role because his entire backstory leads up to it. It's just that CE is so bad that people will cheer for him.
>>13433759 >char clones have layers >this means they act schizophrenic At least Rau was consistent and didn't try to hide his lunacy as being part of greater ideals. He was assmad about being a clone and just wanted shit done with because if he was doomed to die early then he was taking everyone else with him, while his entire upbringing of "you're the best ever" means he saw himself as an arbiter of mankind. Simple but effective, justified by his backstory and a very human way to go about things.
>>13433862 Bullshit, Azrael's logical backing was "fuck all coordinators, we need to keep the human species pure of genetic manipulation, let's use drugs, chemical therapy, brainwashing, and torturous training to create elite child soldiers".
>>13435354 >At least Rau was consistent He spends most of the show being calm and collected and becomes a raving lunatic in the last two episodes because apparently he wasn't evil enough. The guy was insane and far attached from human as possible.
>>13435354 >schizophrenic >Changing through the course of the show as you experience events unfold makes you schizophrenic
Are you one of those retards that think Char's actions in CCA made no sense? Or that Mr.Bushido ruined Graham's character? Or that Mask is the worst Char clone?
Also >Rau >consistent
He literally becomes an insane psychopath in the last episode of SEED, his underlying butthurt of being a clone is just plain silly and you fags only like him for pointing out the obvious. So all you're saying is that all other Char clones were characters while Rau was a strawman who only existed to be proven wrong by Kira.
The fact there's anyone on /m/ who would actually side with or defend Rau's "character" or motivations strikes me as either being unironically stupid or intentionally and willfully ignorant of what a terrible entity he is.
>>13435808 Kira wasn't able to prove Rau wrong, though. Kira's dialog for that final duel consisted largely of "that's not true", "you're wrong", or "even so...". He didn't really have an argument to refute Rau's dialog.
>>13435808 >only existed to be proven wrong by Kira. Kira didn't have any answers to what Rau said at all. Despite all his insane rambling, he was right. People can and will be jelly of people that are better, and people don't let go of their hatred easily.
Why the fuck did the conflict start? Because the Naturals are jelly that the Coordinators are better, it's pretty human. Why did it get worse? Because Coordinators retaliated(Why wouldn't you?), and it just becomes an endless cycle of them attacking each other. By SEED, it became a full blown war where both sides want to wipe each other out. There's too much hatred going around.
Hell, why did the second war started again? Because a bunch of Coordinators were still pissed about Junius Seven and dropped it on Earth. The surviving Naturals were pissed when they found out it was Coordinators that did it, the genocidal higher-ups fanned the flames a little, and boom. War again.
The mask is always stupid but I imagine it's just the way of metaphor since he is usually a commander with political intentions so he thinks as a villain but has to be charming to not be found out. So he puts on a mask. But the mask is like not really there physically, man.
