>Kenichi Suzumura has expressed his preference for how Super Robot Wars Z handled the plot and Shinn's character, which is regarded as vastly superior to the series. He even once said that the genuine Shinn is the one in the game.
You know shit is atrocious when the VA prefers a not canon game potrayal of the character
And yet Suzumura takes all them yens happily for being Shinn.
Shinn is a realist character because his life is ruined, he tries rectify or justify himself and his situation, and never does. He gets kicked to the curb just like real people do everyday. That makes him an attractive character, because you can sympathize or empathize with his story.
He's one of the most human characters in the whole franchise yet people blindy hate on him. Same as Shinji Ikari.
I see the SRW version of Shinn get praised everywhere. Exactly what happened to him and what character development did he get there to make people love him so much despite being hated so much in GSD ?
He's allowed direction, he's allowed to be more than a cartoonish villain for Kira to defeat.
He can interact with other character, sometimes with Kamille his brother in being an autistic angry gundam pilot whose girlfriends get stuffed into giant death robots, other times as the mentor to a island filled Fafner pilots.
He's the one always telling villains to fuck off.
For example the Anti Spiral tries to fuck with him by telling that he's mentally weak and he'll end up destroying himself, and Shinn says that he's different from the past and tells him to fuck off.
Also at the end of Z2 during the farewell party he's praised by Lelouch
Z has him remain as the hero, or at least explains why he supports the Destiny plan if you go that route, while also voicing criticism at Kira.
L rewrote much of Destiny to erase most of the animosity between Shinn and Kira. Shinn even has a moment when he saves Kira and Athrun during the invasion of ORB from the OG villains.
UX takes place after Destiny, with Shinn being a mentor to the Fafner cast.
Reportedly, Akira Ishida couldn't understand Athrun's motivations, Rie Tanaka doesn't feel Lacus acts like a real person (and prefers playing Meer) and Hoshi has said "It wasn't my fault" regarding Kira.
>Akira Ishida couldn't understand Athrun's motivations
To be fair, I doubt he could understand Kaworu either
I never hated shinn. I hated fukuda for not giving him a proper ending. final fight should have been kira vs shinn and athrun vs rey. basically they need a good transition to the special ending where shinn finally meets kira at the orb memorial. that scene was literally perfect
It wasn't handled in the anime, that's the problem.
Shinn's relevance to the ovall story dewindles as the story goes on, and they even reduce him to a "stand here and guard this thingy!" enemy because they don't have the time or the budget to have him doing anything. I can name MotD that have put up better fights than he did in the last episode.
The problem with Shinn being a "badguy" isn't the idea of it, just that how the series does it, it's fucking nothing. There's not even an attempt to tie in his character in the Destiny Plan. I'd at least be happy if Athrun said something like "blowing up Orb will make more people like you" or something, but no YOU'RE KILLING THE FUTURE, instead.
If you want to know how poorly the series is written at this point, ask why anyone other than Gil thinks that the Destiny Plan is a good idea.
>Fukuda hated this
Is this guy fucking stupid?
No, but jokes are made about how the Gundam characters and the Fafner characters all look similiar.
Which becomes even funnier when you realize most of the Gundam Seed characters are genetically engineered, and so are the Fafner cast.
And would reach new levels of HAHAHAHA if MJP got in a game with both Gundam SEED and Fafner because then they could joke that Hirai face is just a result of being a genetically engineered human
It didn't stack up to the original, they had to do it, anon.
: Haman…surely you didn’t come here to mock me.
I would say this is good directing. The character does not get a happy ending. He's lied to constantly and manipulated into thinking he's the hero.
It's only natural that Shinn would pick the false reality of the video game where he can be a hero over what actually happened in the anime.
It's like pottery.
The destiny plan isn't a horrible idea if you understand the history of economic thought. It isn't inconceivable that dogma dictates roles in society instead of self interest. Many societies today still do so. Most developed nations are moving towards forced equality instead of freedom.
I actually liked the basic concept of Shinn being a character who becomes completely entranced by a charismatic villain, and ends up becoming increasingly blind to how this ideology is leading him to ruin. Think of it like a show where the main character is a Zeon fanatic. That sort of story would be more interesting the the overdone redemption tale.
Fukuda's actual writing for Shinn was just awful though, since he didn't actually make any of his characters resemble actual people. The basic idea could have been done better justice in different hands.
In the context of the show, it's a terrible idea because it won't solve the underlining problem, which is that Naturals and Coordinators just goddamn hate each other and can't get along.
Nor does that really explain Shinn who certainly isn't thinking about it economically and his reasons for following it is the vague comments Rey makes that if the Destiny Plan was always a thing then people like Mayu and Stella wouldn't have died, (which is a blatant lie because to get the Destiny Plan invoked they were gonna Requiem Orb which would have made hundreds of Mayu's) and because the guys spearheading the opposition are people he already as a grudge against and wants to kill anyway.
I'm not arguing that the Destiny Plan is a good thing or bad thing.
I'm just saying that they never go into why anyone other than Gilbert thinks it's a good idea, and it's pretty much "anyone who fights for it is bad, and everyone who fights against it, is good!"
The named characters fighting for it don't have any explanation or reason for it other than because they're ZAFT characters. This has less going on than the goddamn desert arc of ZZ Gundam, that's my problem.
>underlining problem, which is that Naturals and Coordinators just goddamn hate each other and can't get along.
Not true. Destiny showed that the extremist factions were being driven from behind the scenes by Logos. Halfway through Destiny that whole coordinator-vs-natural shit was already over with and it shifted to free-will-vs-determinism.
