And Chewie self-destructs like Heero Yuy!
So BB-8 is the star, right?
these shots of exploring the old star destroyer still look neat
He's the black love interest for Rey that's progressive. So when he gets killed by Kylo, the force will "awaken" in her. Then in 8 we'll get a more permanent black character. Maybe even Lando
And now I finally went from not caring much to wanting to see the movie.
>Boba Fett kills Han Solo, Finn slices Boba's head off
>Corpse at the end is pretty clearly Chewie given the hair. You can see his bandolier in the bottom right corner to.
>I will finish... what you started
But... Vader never started anything?
From inception to death, his character was completely reactionary.
And that stops him from being worshiped after his death... how? Remember, the Original Trilogy is a legend now. They are stories and myth.
You realize you can have two main characters, right? Both Ray and Finn could be our protagonists.
Nerds are racists and fangirls are fucking racists so I doubt Finn will get that much participation after Episode VII. In fact, he may die. If they released the trailer so late it means there was a huge fight backstage
Racists are racists.
SF fans are among the least racist people.
They live in fantasy future worlds, not the real one.
Finn thing is indicative of how mainstream SW is.
Can you imagine a similar backlash with Star Trek?
>SF fans are among the least racist people
Really? From my experience, they're a bunch of middle-aged white men that hate everything outside their secluded little world, what mean women and minorities. There are tons of races on sci-fi but the hero is a "relatable" white male lead
>implying all whites are this and that
All your petty passive aggression isn't helping your case.
If you just wanna bitch about honkeys, go to /tv/ or /pol/ and bitch at them.
They seem to share your attitude.
There hasn't been any scifi books in almost 30 years ever since the bastard Asimov died. Unless you call that self published tripe that lines the bookstores actual scifi books, which would be accurate as saying bleach is a drinkable substance.
Well then, looks like you'll have to read older stuff, now won't you? Yeah, there hasn't been much Science Fiction published recently*. That means there hasn't been much Science Fiction published recently.
*but decidedly nonzero. Banks, Wolfe, ...
>Yeah, there hasn't been much Science Fiction published recently
Oh they have, they're just all fucking shit because no one fucking tries anymore, this has to be the most worthless, self-centered, egotistic with nothing to show for it, pathetic generation that has ever graced this worthless pile of dirt and moisture, even your filthy Mongol ancestors did more, at least fighting and destroying empires is SOMETHING. What do you do? Write shitty sci-fi light novels that read like you just walked out from tvtropes that's what
That's a really unrelated leap in logic, and doesn't really follow from the conversation. Are you just trying to make /m/ angry? You're going in the wrong direction, if so. Instead of just saying things suck and hoping you accidentally hit on something that another poster cares about, try saying that something is really, really good.
This will work out better for you because you'll be more likely to attract an opponent who is motivated by dislike and anger, which will lead to a longer spar.
>There hasn't been any scifi books in almost 30 years
Old Man's War.
>SF fans are among the least racist people.
while I mostly agree with this statement I have encountered some oddly racist sci-fi fans, wouldn't fuck anyone that isn't a white human female but would totally go for a twi'lek dancer, I'm not sure where the line is on that one.
>the Original Trilogy is a legend now. They are stories and myth.
This doesn't make any sense whatsoever though? Is the Vietnam War a myth? Is the Second World War a myth? How can events that took place about 30 - 40 years ago be completely relegated to a position of "stories and myth"?
Keep in mind that within 17 years the Jedi went from "those wizard samurai who are fighting our war with their magic kung-fu" to "ancient crackpot religion". I think it's safe to assume that everyone in the Star Wars universe suffers from severe memory loss.
The actual length of time is a bit skewed, yes, but it's no different than the way generals from WWII and further back are trumped up, regardless of how well their exploits are documented. Not to mention there may be a plot-related reason for all that.
I suppose it is possible Rey is asking this question due to her being raised in what amounts to "The OTHER ass end of the galaxy" with seemingly no real infrastructure outside the odd spaceport equipped town, the amount of knowledge of the Galactic Civil War and the Old Republic might be very limited.
>If they released the trailer so late it means there was a huge fight backstage
Except the trailer that was released last month, and the Instagram trailer before that, and the trailer before that, and the trailer before that.
Not only are you hateful, you're slow on the uptake.
>There hasn't been any scifi books in almost 30 years
See Peter Watts' works.
Yes, they also banned any and all research on them according to Lando's comic, the empire has made many active measures to scrub the Jedi out of public knowledge.
It's still a bit hard to swallow I'm sure some of you will find, an Order of Space Samurai Monks who saved the galaxy time after time again being so forgotten to the point even the force itself is brought under question in a fair brief timespan, though I suppose anyone who DID know otherwise likely were told to keep their mouth stapled shut about it.
Supposing the Empire even gave them a choice at all.
I always preferred Luke to Han to be honest, at least partially because I always preferred the X-Wing and snubfighters to the Millenium Falcon, but also because Luke was just cooler to me. Sure, he starts off whiny, but he becomes a space monk with a lightsaber who goes on an adventure round the galaxy - Han ain't got shit on that frankly.
I'm aware I'm in the minority, but I don't really mind. I'm always not bothered that he's not showing up in the trailers. Hell, I don't even mind if he doesn't show up much in the first film, because I'm willing to wait and see what they do with him. I don't need him to feature heavily just because I like him.
No. People in the Star Trek universe don't care.
Tumblr people care a whole fucking lot about people who don't care. Anyone who doesn't care as much as they do is part of the problem.
In Star Trek, no one thinks twice about a bald guy. They've reached true Bald Acceptance.
On Tumblr, if you're not actively preaching Bald Acceptance and somehow framing it as both disability and NOT a disability, you're a follically-privileged cis scum sending out aggressive micro-triggers by refusing to bow and scrape to baldie.
Mostly from Anakin's POV (though there's some suggested sexual tension on Padme's part too). It's been a while since I've read the book but basically Anakin thought Padme was cheating on him with Obi-Wan.
Before the trailer was released, people were complaining about why Disney didn't release a real trailer with the movie's premiere being so close. The execs tried with the Star Wars friday and shit but there was no trailer yet, only a teaser. Also, JJ didn't sign for making another movie and the producer said she want a female director for the next one, what imply JJ is out of the project. Star Wars was JJ's dream project, he's a huge SW nerd, so he'd be more than willing to sign for the entire trilogy if there wasn't backstage drama
>Really? From my experience
Then you have no experience. Geek culture being hostile to women and minorities is a media myth. All it takes is going to a lan party, an RPG session, a con, etc to dash that myth to the ground.
You spewing that shit just proves, yes there are such thing as fake geeks.
Does JJ personally appointing Colin Trevorrow as the director of Episode IX indicate some vague infighting, too? Why the fuck should you care if the producer apparently said they wanted a female director for VIII?
Just because JJ's a 'huge SW nerd' doesn't mean he has some sort of obligation to man the helm across an entire trilogy.
I don't care if this is a fanfic-tier idea. The amount of shitposting and sperg /tv/ will generate would be worth it.
>prove yer not RACIS'
pls take your gamergate shit or whatever you people are onto now somewhere else, no one cares, having another 100 posts arguing "no true Scotsman" won't change anything aside from posting more of the same meme macros.
4chan is a perfectly egalitarian culture enforced via by its defacto culture of anonymity from above and below. It's the feminists in the world who is racist and sexist. Even /pol/ and /tv/ aren't really racist they just pretend to be.
>Also, JJ didn't sign for making another movie and the producer said she want a female director for the next one
Abrams was only signed for and intending to do one film from the beginning, and Episode VIII and IX have already had confirmed directors, Rian Johnson and Colin Trevrow, for months now.
I don't think you ever picked up a sci-fi book in your life. There is a host of great authors out there.
And Aismov's writing was never the best. Even his most memorable works are basically detective novels in space (and yes the android always did it, no matter what the Laws state).
Go pretend to be a female in any population that is on any board here, or any other nerd/tech community offsite, say that again.
The idea that women are literally useless and catalysts for the destruction of a nerd community is still massively ingrained. I fucking hate SJWs and I can still see this.
Honor Harrington series by David Weber
What hole have you been living in lately?
This series is nearly as epic as Legend of Galactic Heroes.
>You can argue that this is bad, etc, but calling it part of "patriarchy" and linking it to Chadbro date-rape culture is absurdly ridiculous
But women love Chadbro date-rape culture
You mean self hating brainwashed puppets who needs to be liberated.
>Go pretend to be a female in any population that is on any board here, or any other nerd/tech community offsite, say that again.
Giving your gender undermines your anonymity. It has nothing to do with misogyny.
I don't like Finn the Human for 2 reasons:
1. He's ugly
2. He's a britbong
You telling me JewJew couldn't find a suave good looking American Negro?
They heard his accent, went all gooey for his indy BS cred.
>Ani was a kek
>He thought Obi-Wan was making new younglings with his wife
Finally, his wrath makes sense.
Blame the people who bitched hard about how the prequels didn't have X-Wings, TIE fighters and so on. Disney are just following the money, for which I can't honestly blame them. There'll probably be a handful of new fighters in the second or third films, but even then the two big ones are likely to remain the X-Wing and TIE Fighter.
You can't be more wrong than this.
The Tie might be a two seater this time around. The toy at least is one.
Think we'll get the shots of the pilots just before the fighters explode?
Don't make fun of Imperial gun crews.
They wanted an evil sounding name but not too evil.
I kind of like it, the tower section does not come off as a weak point like it does in other Star Destroyers.
This shit only ever seems to end up in the threads for super mainstream shit like Star Wars and whatnot. Doesn't help that there are probably people tossing around buzzwords just to stir shit and derail threads.
Betas don't have the balls to state out right their hatred of bitches and niggers.
They are hypocrites, that's why they make such good feminists.
>The idea that women are literally useless and catalysts for the destruction of a nerd community is still massively ingrained.
Because most women are catalysts for destroying nerd communities. They dabble and then demand things be changed for them. Of course there will always be dumbfuck guys, even outsiders, who join in to "give women a voice". Just look at the western anime community. When some bitch complains about some fanservicey show we get near-middle age normies coming out of nowhere and tweeting about how anime is problematic and Japan needs to be forced to change. And of course you have the closet viewers, who are probably watching Valkyrie Drive as we speak, turning around and agreeing with them.
Just look at the dumb bitch from the UN calling for the criminalization of lolicon. She comes from a country whose leaders are plainly known to be actual pedophiles who have abused phonebooks worth of kids with little repercussion and whose police allow rapes of underaged kids to occur almost freely. Immediately westerners who didn't give two shits about pedophilia or lolicon even once before in their lives jump to agree with her. The ultra "progressive" types are particularly bad since they're the only group with members publicly trying to normalize pedophilia.
Kylo is so unoriginal. I became a fanatic of grandpops before it was cool.
>one fag posts PURU
>suddenly everyone's a paedo
PURU PURU is for HUGS.
No lewds, pls silly boi.
There is no geek culture anymore. What was once a refuge for outsiders was first appropriated by hipsters, then by the mainstream.
First off, I'm old. We played dungeons and dragons in the mid 80's when normies thought it was a satanist cult ritual, in the 90's we were copying VHS fansubs of anime, and rented out classrooms at local colleges to have viewing nights. The social circle we were part of crossed over into a bunch of other groups (comics, videogames, anime, model building, tabletop, etc), and we all kind of connected through local dialup bulletin board systems (yes, pre-internet). We'd arrange game nights, swap meets, model building nights, through BBSes.
All in all it was about 30% female (most of whom were from the anime clubs), and we were extremely racially diverse. And while our interests sometimes only tangenially intersected, the common thread was that we were all outsiders in our own highschools and colleges.
All this bullshtit about miysogeny and racism that has cropped up in the last few years has nothing to do with the legitimate outsider/geek culture; it's all stemming from the douchbags who have latched on.
>more confirmation that Star Wars is the only show that retards can understand
If you're literally too retarded to discuss anything /m/ related you ought to fuck off back to your >>>/tv/ shithole.
>it's all stemming from the douchbags who have latched on.
It's simply made up. When liking sexy characters qualifies as misogyny it's pretty clear the self-proclaimed victims are just grasping at straws.
There are pretty legitimate cases of assholes groping cosplayers (read: popular girls who need even more attention) at big cons. That shit never happened when conventions were glorified swap meets, maybe because everyone knew eachother, or maybe because 'geek culture' was actually a thing back then, not a label applied to pop culture. Althought we NEVER used the term "Geek" or "Nerd", those were insults flung at us by others.
But you're 100% about the current moral panic. It's no different than the "D&D is satanism", "Rap Music causes gang violence", and "Videogames cause school shooting". We've been down this road countless times, and the current "everything is misogeny" line is completely horseshit.
I keep watching the trailers hoping something will spark.
But I'm just so not compelled by this movie.
The prequels sucked, but I remember seeing the trailers and being a bit intrigued and having some questions in my mind.
Everything just seems so damn status quo in this movie I feel like I already know everything that's going to happen, and everything that's going to appear.
I'm planning to watch it, but mainly with the same mindset as I did towards Unicorn. That is, mainly as a non-serious fanservice ("Ooh, I recognize that!") and some cool action scenes, and nothing more.
His nose is not that bad, the amateur lighting makes it look comical there. Giving too much contour on the left and none whatsoever on the right makes it look like it's about 800% more crooked than it really is.
>white people shouldn't be able to write FICTION staring someone of their own race
How about instead of whining about white people not doing your bidding you go and rectify the situation by making something of your own?
How correct am I in presuming that the starfighter combat is the main draw for /m/ for this? The trailer doesn't suggest we'll be getting any capital ship combat.
my main draw is seeing the glorious Falcon back in action again
You would be surprised how many very long term female posters are on /m/ and in the various fansubbing, anime, and tokusatsu communities (actual ones, I mean, not dudes who "identify as women"), and we do all right.
Because being a bitch doesn't matter online until you make it an issue, an intentionally combative issue designed to advance a political agenda over the needs of the community and its original intention.
>I seriously hope they give us new starship models
But that's what the prequels did. We're trying to distance ourselves from them as much as possible!
Very eloquent summation of the point. Pretty much captures everything wrong that has happened with "nerds" since the beginning of the 20th century: as computers and gaming and sci-fi/fantasy stuff becomes more and more mainstream and consumed by low-IQ plebs, these same plebs (who are incredibly susceptible to political suggestion because they cannot think abstractly) increasingly demand things be changed for them, particularly to be PC. And meanwhile, corporations consistently dumb things down regardless of any political concerns, simply because dumb is what sells to the lowest common denominator, which is the largest audience.
I have met plenty of intelligent and genuinely nerdy female nerds in my life, but they are not the problem. The problem are the "nerds" who are not nerds at all and want to make everything political all the time, because they never had a genuine deep interest in the mental worlds of nerds in the first place. Just stupid political dilettantes. The kind of people who have rebel insignia tattoos and bumper stickers on their cars, nowadays.
What bugs me more is not knowing which of the EU ships are being adopted by Disney canon.
the only ones I know of so far are Victory Star Destroyers, Carrack Cruisers and Interdictor Cruisers
That's why I listed them, the other two are in the post Disney books.
>"What do we have parked at R/M, Colonel?"
>"Several CR-ninety corvettes, two Carrack-class light cruisers, a couple of Victories, and a Venator-class destroyer—the Liberator."
You shouldn't be "pretending" to be anything different from what you are when it's not related to the discussion. It's going to derail just as badly as the valvrager/recofag style of trolling.
It's because the only people posting in gun dumb or kamen raidah threads are "racist, sexist" nerds, so there is no controversy between them of being a racist or sexist. A popular franchise like star wars attracts outsiders who will be more likely to derail with unrelated shit.
I'd love for this big boy to get made canon again. It'd be nice for the New Republic to get some big guns for a change.
Yeah, but anyone who knows anything about lightsabers will tell you that that is a crude imitation of a lightsaber. Lightsabers are supposed to be a single projected beam, you can't effectively swing a weapon like that if the weight of the blade is constantly in flux and shaking around like that unstable mess.
Lightsabers are also supposed to have a very super-confined heat to them, that's why they are able to cut through a bulkhead, but don't fry people when you stick it up, next to their throat...
All in all, I can appreciate what JJ is trying to do with that design, but that doesn't stop it from being a bad design.
Also, props for the handguards. It's an interesting idea.
>Yeah, but anyone who knows anything about lightsabers will tell you that that is a crude imitation of a lightsaber.
I'm pretty sure that's the point. It has been officially mentioned that Kylo Ren isn't a Sith either. He's just a (probably force sensitive but self trained) wanna be.
Wasn't there a fan made Star Destroyer that was even bigger than the Eclipse?
Someone of Ren's level(or anyone who could pull off a beam hand guards) should be able to construct a functioning lightsaber. There is no reason to design it as such other than being SUPER THREATENING AND SCARY!
>hit with X-wing blaster fire
The fuck should have exploded. Hate to see what woudl happen if someone got lit up by a round of vulcan cannon fire from a current day fighter plane.
Yeah, that's fucking stupid, especially even in ANH we saw X-Wing lasers cratering the surface of the Death Star. By rights there should be a big scorching mark on the ground where that Stormie should be.
It's not going to be Luke, anyone who says it's Luke is crazy since we already have set photos of Kylo without his mask. The leaked pictures and the fact that Daisy/John are shooting scenes of ep. VIII with him are proof enough that he's still a Jedi.
At least the EU got it right that starfighter cannons basically vaporize infantry, even the ultra low power scattershots they came up with early in the Yuuzhan Vong war that do little more than burn the paint off starfighters.
> random anonymous poster
> going to accept everyone resignation for liking something
> because obviously /m/ won't accept that
> despite the fact the thread has been civil and mostly people anticipating the movie
My but you do live in a fantasy world don't you anon.
It's plebshit, mass produced and made to pander to outside elements otherwise uninterested in the base material and likely will STILL be uninterested despite it. Anyone who actually likes it or even entertains the thought of bumping shoulders with filthy mouth breathing Americans to watch it deserves the boot.
That's nice anon. Keep stoking that burning hatred. Maybe someday you'll be able to do something with it, and not just come off like an angry retard in online discussions. Until then, you're just another anonymous and have zero power, authority or respect so no-one is going to listen to you and nothing you say will change anything. Lots of /m/ will still go see this movie, quite a bit of that will probably like it, there'll be the occasional threads which will almost certainly be on the whole civil and positive and /m/ will barely notice or care.
You'll still have your anger to console you though I guess, so there's that.
> liking a Star Wars movie is against the non-existent rules
Considering its Sci-Fi for dummies and insultingly simple, it certainly should be. To say nothing of the blatant appeasement of two groups who do not care for star wars
