I have a group of friends who fervently refuse to watch Gundam or anything /m/ because it's "not deep enough", "boring", and "robots aren't my thing".
How do I fix this god dammit.
>"not deep enough"
I'm guessing they haven't seen Evangelion.
They enjoy things like Death Note, Attack on Titan, Haruhi, Angel Beats, Sword Art Online, Assassination High School, Noragami Aragato, and more.
It's pretty frustrating that I have to watch those with them, and they won't give Gundam or mecha a chance.
>it's "not deep enough"
We have the solution to the problem
I low balled it and showed them the first episode of Aldnoah.Zero.
>Too much exposition and boring.
Get them to watch SDF instead, besides
Gundam really isn't that good anyways
> Death Note, Attack on Titan, Haruhi, Angel Beats, Sword Art Online, Assassination High School, Noragami Aragato
>Gundam's not deep enough!
Jesus Christ, it's just a kid's show. Not everything has to be deep.
>Death Note, Haruhi, Angel Beats
Trifecta of weaboo taste
>Sword Art Online, Attack on Titan, Assassination Classroom
Recent trifecta of shit taste
Congrats anon, minus rucky star you basically hit turd jackpot.
I just mean weaboos worship it as the greatest piece of (insert genre here) media in existence. That happens with a lot of shows but Death Note was hugely, hugely popular with the toonami crowd.
Without them I have no friends.
I tried Gurren Lagann around 2010, but they weren't having any of it.
I've been friends with them for about 8 years. I don't have any friends except for this group, so I spend my time on 4chan until we decide to watch an anime together.
They just don't want to watch mecha. I've tried to recommend them for our viewings, but there's always another one that they all think will be better than my recommendations
Wow, not even Gurren Lagann. It's a pretty normalfag-acceptable anime, isn't it
I almost lost any contact with my friends during the last 2 years and understood that muh robot cartoons have always been giving me much more fun than social interactions.
Jesus your friends have some real shit taste in anime. Other than Noragami, it's like the Best Hits of normalfag anime.
Honestly it's probably not worth it. I'd say half my friends even care for anime, maybe half of that will tolerate mecha, and half of that genuinely enjoy it. Assuming you're friends with them for reasons other than their hobbies, it's not really worth the effort.
All my friends who got into mecha approached me first, and I gave them recommendations. If you end up in a situation like that, I'd say start with the 0079 movies if they can tolerate the animation. Yes, it's dated, but it forms an important foundation for the rest of the franchise. If not, then 08th MS Team is the most obvious one to go with, or 0080 if they claim they're more "intellectual." If even that is too much for them, then I'd say get better friends because it's a lost cause. Otherwise I'd go with Unicorn. As dumb as it is to start with Unicorn, normalfags flock to it like crazy. Sawano OST+good animation is catnip for normalfags.
Find out what they like and show them the gundam that fits that.
Turn A seems sort of like a period drama at first, G or BF is more or less like your average shonen, 08th Team is down to earth (for the most part and 00 has gays
On second thoughts get better friends
sorry i was laughing too hard
seriously OP just get other friends to watch it with you
your "anime" friends dont seem to know what good anime is
you honestly have a better shot with a complete normie or someone who can just appreciate something new
>How do I fix this god dammit.
You don't. Don't't force anything on them and just let them watch whatever they want. A friend of mine didn't have any interest in Gundam but now he wants to watch Build Fighters because the MILF is so hot.
>I spend my time on 4chan until we decide to watch an anime together
If your only common activity is to watch
likely badanime together then I can safely say that you don't need them.
Also posting tits to not make this post worthless.
>"not deep enough"
Sounds like an asshole. I bet he'll love Eva. Every asshole that yearns for something "2deep4u" loves Eva.
On the flipside, if you want to show him something that is 2deep4u, but is actually good, show him Big O.
>mon visage quand this thread is hitting too close to home
>Tomino's shows are some of the only genuinely "deep" anime that aren't overtly surreal
The "deep" aspects of Tomino's shows are more subtle than the same aspects in some things that are considered "deep".
See the last two episodes of Eva which are pretty much the character's explaining themselves to the audience verses all the people who don't understand why character's in Zeta do the things they do.
>How do I fix this
Mecha is like capeshit comics, or Christianity, you need to get into it young, otherwise the internal contradictions inherent in the genre become too stupid to swallow.
Attracting a large audience of people has fuck all to do with the depth of it.
That's just for the people who already like something and want to endlessly blather on about a bunch of tiny bits of nothing.
It takes talent to entertain a large group of people or make something as niche as giant robot mechs and space psychics who bitch about peace all the while hypocritically continue to nuke each other out of the sky in even more spectacular ways and make it palatable to a casual noob audience.
Because of your friends' taste, SeeD or Wing will probably be your best bet OP...
