>>25316985 I know right? Every single shitty 2D platformer game we've had didn't even focus on the world of equestria and the story behind it.
Most of our games are crappy crossovers with megaman, castlevania, crappy rpg #391 and other popular property which has nothing to do with friendship and the cartoon show.
I remember Fiends from Dream Valley at least promised to be an adventure platformer with a story behind it which featured the generation 1 villains rebooted. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jvA_bQV5uc
So it's a conscious thought rather than something done by accent because lack of talent and skills.
A joke fucking scene from one episode. The closest to a real fight it had was the Tirek one and even that is one episode out of 100+ and stands as one of the most embarrasing wastes the show has done in it's life time.
Fighting games, shooters, castlevania shit and more do not work with the brand, it feels phony and weak and it's a blessing little to none get finished.
There was someone who was making a turn-based, isometric game and had a few gifs or something of Twilight moving around in it. I forgot who was making it and haven't heard a thing in a long while, but it looked really good.
>>25317114 >if a cameo can happen, a full game of it is okay
This is where it's a bad idea, anon. Say one pony made it to Smash. Okay, neat. Then suddenly people want a whole Smash game based on pone. It wouldn't be the same thing. It would be leaving out too much and just focus on bashing other players with nothing else. Keeping it just a cameo of sorts would be more in line since they wouldn't have to focus on the one pony that's just 'there' and nothing more.
>>25317127 Cameo? He's a full blown character! It's the silliest thing ever and it somehow works. Ponies fighting is not anywhere near as silly. Or are you telling me you thought the original fighting is magic sucked because everyone was super out of character? I didn't. And we didn't even get any story to go with the fighting yet. It just kinda worked.
Anyway the point was, it's pretty hard to make a game engaging without... conflict, I guess. You'd end up with the gameloft game or a boring ass visual novel or whatever if you are deadset on staying faithful to the show. Sure, smash bros and street fighter ripoffs are pretty off mark but in general without having ponies shoot some laser beams and doing some bucks for attacks or what have you - I don't see what kind of game you want to create. Or have them drive karts, or whatever. Whatever you do, just turning the story of the show into a game doesn't really work.
>>25317207 >It just kinda worked. Not really. It was a fighting game. People were only hyped because it was some style of video game with ponies in it. It didn't fit and it was pretty damn broken as it was.
> boring ass visual novel It's already a thing, anon. Just as shitty as it sounds.
>Whatever you do, just turning the story of the show into a game doesn't really work. Depends on what you're trying to accomplish and how you go about it. It can work and wouldn't be too hard. Something like >>25317170 stated could be good.
>>25316498 I don't know what would constitute a good pony game for you, but I'm currently developing a pony rpg with a system similiar to Dungeons & Dragons 3.5e. If things go well, the first release will probably be in ~ April of 2016
>>25317021 >>25317170 Well, I think since anyone making a pony game cannot expect to be paid, a pony game would be a product of passion. I think there are simply not enough people passionate about casual games to make it happen. I would fucking end myself before I make a casual game for free.
>>25317045 I don't know what you mean by SFM, but I plan to include porn and grant rewards for sexxing ponies.
>>25317250 >People were only hyped because it was some style of video game with ponies in it.
I think you're mixing things up here. People at large are VERY excited about these concepts. That's why people were crazy over FiMg, Smash Ponies, Pony Kart. That's why these games came to be in the first place. That's why that ridiculously overambitioned pony MMORPG is still not dead.
Nobody went "oh no that's so ooc and doesn't even fit the motives from the show". If people disliked those projects, it was for other reasons. For example a couple of people didn't like FiMg for being a fighting game - but that's because they are no fan of the genre in general, ponies or not, it was never based on how well ponies actually fit into it. I mean just look at this very thread, most people would like for a game that's essentially "Skyrim but with ponies" to happen.
I don't care if people are willing to eat anything, in fact that much is a given considering how many people defending newer seasons we get in here. But that doesn't mean I'm going to accept tasteless, witless and misfitting material just because the brainless do.
>>25317327 >Pony Kart Whatever did happen to that? I remember meeting the devs at a con way back in '12. They had a panel showing off their game and they seemed to have good progress on it then, and I haven't heard anything since.
>>25317045 >Good news everyone! We have a rich fanbase that could crowdfund a 1 million dollar game. >Bad news everyone. They're too retarded to fund a good game and no talented team dares to approach them and vice versa.
>Hmm I could fund a 3D game based on Equestria or an entirely new cartoon series inspired from Equestria or.. >Oh my... >Oh my god! Them's Fightin Herds, a shitty unimaginative 2D fighting game approved by Lauren Faust! HAVE MY MONEY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJcippkGQIc
>>25317602 I honestly don't get your "complaint". They couldn't use official MLP characters obviously and TFH is probably as close as you can get without getting shot down by Hasbro. And yeah for fuck's sake it's even made by Faust herself.
And I mean maybe I *would* fund a 3d game based on equestria or an entirely new cartoon series inspired by equestria, but it just so happens there's this team who does a 2d fighting game based on equestria. So I'll settle for that, I guess? What am I supposed to hold out for?
>>25318008 Congrats on missing my point. /v/ and /mlp/ aren't exactly the same. One mindset on the board won't act like the other. Having porn in a game can get different reactions depending on what audience you're aiming at.
But the reason there aren't any good pony games is because it's illegal for fans to do it, and companies move way too slow to capitalize on a fad like pony. If Hasbro had gone to a dev company during Season 1, they would have been willing to put out some cheap trash at best because video games for seven year old girls don't sell well unless they're super casual like Bejewelled or Angry Birds. Very low-stress, low challenge products that wouldn't widely appeal to the unexpected adult male audience of the show.
And if you asked a real dev company to make a game now, there's finally enough marketing data to prove it would have been a good idea! Five years ago. But looking at the trends, pony is on the decline so it's not likely a good investment to spend a lot of money on a video game that will be completed a year out from now.
So fans are explicitly forbidden by law to make themselves the game they want, and companies are too slow and bureaucratic to do it.
>>25319180 What are you saying, that a My Little Pony game shouldn't require the most cutting-age and expensive hardware available today? Shit son, the recession already ended for the world's top earners. You should be able to afford a few thousand dollars worth of RAM, GPU, and processor.
>>25316498 Am I the only one who thinks an Action/Adventure game with light platforming elements would be a perfect fit?
The world of Equestria would be rendered in a 3d style, with several hubworlds you'd be free to explore: Ponyville, Canterlot, The Crystal Empire.
To switch hubworlds you'd take the train, and a cutscene would go down showing you traveling to cover up the loading or whatever.
Inside the hubworlds you can explore, talk to ponies, and run around and cause shenanigans. Talking to certain NPCs would trigger the actual missions, and the meat of the gameplay would occur there.
So let's say your character is Twilight. The mission is that a swarm of parasprites are devouring the village. You'd have a jump button, a melee attack button, and a magic attack button. If you tapped jump twice you could fly for a short period. You would go around platforming on Ponyville's rooftops zapping clusters of parasprites with magic and herding them towards the edge of town. Then you'd chase them off, much like in the show, by rolling the ball into the treeline. Depending on how fast you completed the mission the town would either be a little bit destroyed, or totally wrecked, and then the hubworld would look different based on that.
3D platformer with some action elements just seems to make the most sense to me. Not everyone has patience for RPGs, especially kids. I think this style of game would be palatable to the widest crowd of folks.
>>25316498 I've given up hope as well. There are some ambitious projects out there, but time showed that they either get a C&D or don't get finished. I would've loved to have an RPG with pones as well. Something along the lines of Kingdom Hearts, Zelda or just classic RPGs with a turn-based battle system. Seeing how big the world has become with the show constantly exploring new places, it would be awesome to explore them yourself in a game.
Honestly, if Legends of Equestria had a satisfying battle and quest system or something, that would already make me happy.
>implying that you can't turn a normie game into maximum pony and pony autists
Take mine little pony for Minecraft for example. This gets forced in a client with some other bunch of shit and the map is set to equestria. Then the server pony logistics taken by professional head Admins will lead us to paradise?
>>25316498 Still hoping for a fun, competitive pone game you can play online with and/or against other horsefuckers. Fighting is Magic would've already been perfect for me, and thinking about it still makes me a little salty today. A sportsgame like hoofball would be great too and obviously an RPG has tons of possibilities as well.
>>25319984 >All it takes is a few people with the talent to do the job and the wisdom not to blab about their project until it's finished. It seems to me that the need for attention is the downfall of many projects. The moment you set up a website or accept monetary donations you give away your identity. If you never publish your identity and use an anonymizer or live in a country that's not spying on you lel Hasbro will never be able to send you a C&D letter.
>>25320335 For a real game, it takes a team and money. Even "Fighting is Magic" was going to be a fairly rudimentary product with a hackneyed and exploitable combat system. It's easy enough to get something out there with RPG Maker or Gamemaker, but a full-blown game with 3D modeling that doesn't look worse than nineties era animation is virtually out of the question.
Even if you did release a game anonymously such that a C&D became virtually impossible, the DMCA still makes it possible to take down every instance of the game from any reputable source.
i only dreamed about a 3d game in equestria whit customisable anon as a character, sandbox whit npcs giving you quests, crafting stuff, killing enemies. a relationship sistem like harvest moon whit events and all the stuff, and a big ability tree. i wish i could do it
>>25319984 >stubbornness to challenge any C&D they receive. So what you're saying is, you're hoping to find people who are willing to go to jail over a fucking pony game that they aren't even making any real money off of?
>>25319795 >Still hoping for a fun, competitive pone game you can play online with and/or against other horsefuckers. I'm working on something like this, sort of a real-time version of FF Tactics. The game is 3v3, played on a grid, but each player controls one character. All the actions happen in real time, but with an energy bar to emulate the standard turn-based speed system.
>>25323330 Sure does. Of course it's hard to judge anything by just hearing the concept and not seeing any actual gameplay, but once you get to the point of uploading a video with a first look at the game and its mechanics and style, I'd check it out for sure. Got a name for the game or a channel I can keep an eye on for that?
>>25323390 The game is called HORSE BATTLE. I will probably not bother trying to hype it up and instead just post it for people to play. I'm trying to keep the game as simple as possible, so I can actually get it done soon rather than Valve-"soon", like by Christmas at the latest.
