whats some january 2016 metal senpai?
Second for a question. I'm looking at starting a solo project and I'm looking for advice on it. The only thing I'm confident on is vocals, been doing them for a few years now. Starting to learn guitar, so I was thinking doing blackened crusty doomy sludgy stuff so it's not too fast or complex, and I have an excuse for keeping it lo-fi, and then maybe sampling drums. I want to make it original and interesting though, so I'm looking for advice on how to do that. Thoughts?
Why is it so beautiful, lads?

/mu/s thoughts on Grizzly Bear?
I don't understand this album at all. On a first listen I'd give this a 4/10. Can someone explain the appeal to me and why it has 4.08 on RYM?

what are some good films about music, or musicians, or with really good musical soundtracks.
But seriously, what's wrong with it?
Pic related is an awesome album to listen to while reading or writing. Interesting enough not to get tedious. Relaxing without putting you to sleep. No lyrics so you don't start singing along. Just perfect.
Any other artists you can recommend?
ITT: last 5 things you rated on RYM - "I should have listened to J Spaceman earlier" edition
it's pretty hilarious how RYM's rules cucked In Rainbows out of an album cover for overall view
"Gee, dad. I wish I was born in 199* so I could have enjoyed masterpieces such as______"
this album is the shittiest and most overrated album on this board. it boggles my mind how people consider this one of the greatest albums of all time, when it's not even the greatest album of that year imo (Paul's Boutique). fight me on this you faggots

Did we reach a halt when it comes to new modern music genres?
I feel like everything we get now is just regurgitated stuff we already had in the 20th century. Maybe the existing genres from the past are more refined today, but I have the feeling music is merely progressing in niches and sub sections of major genres without any actually unique genres emarging.
Will there ever be a new major genre in the future, /mu/? And I'm not talking about wacky hipster shit like industrial jungle noises.
An new major genre just like rock in the 20th century.

so many relevant subgenres have developed in the last 5 years or so. if youre talking about stuff as broad as "rock", though, maybe youre right. idk
