Whart/who are some talented female artists/musicians that don't depend on their sexual image/body to get people to listen to their music?
Gregory and the Hawk, maybe.
Fiona Apple is a little hit or miss for me but she's unique.
Bjork. I'm not sure if she counts because of that one music video that's literally heavily edited video of her sex life and the weird jewelry
Gwen Stefani before everything after hollaback girl.
the lead singer of mum
well yeah. shes fucking hot. But you were implying that she wasn't good & that her image "made" her. Just look at Lorde. Shes BTFO & very very mainstream & popular. All that matters is that you have a great voice.
The guy you responded to just now wasn't me.
>you were implying that she wasn't good
Never implied that.
>that her image "made" her
There are many women who make good music and work hard, but it doesn't hurt that she attractive.
She's an outlier (I love her music and I think she's adorable).
>All that matters is that you have a great voice
100% not true. There a thousands upon thousands of singers who with great voices who will never be famous due to various circumstance.
That's wata you fucking twit. She's not even Korean.
Cat Power before she got famous and started making mainstream music
she had crippling social anxiety and such good music
not that i'm not glad she got over anxiety, i'm just saying she couldn't even handle being in a spotlight at all, concerts were breaking her, she couldn't even play on stage
i can't even find the video because she got so famous since that there's a ton of live videos on youtube now
i like the haircut, tbh. i think it works for her
Gonna get shit for this, but Lauren Mayberry doesn't really play up the sex appeal either. She's cute as fuck, but she dresses like an old maid about 80% of the time.
Totally agree with this about Lauren Mayberry. She's not "sexing it up." She's just being who she is. She can't help it if she's cute. And those fucking shorts. God. Where does she find them? Goodwill?
Debbie Harry from Blondie.
>she doesn't wear make-up
This is what males actually believe.
Aside from her omnipresent mascara and eyeliner?
google some photos of her. She's wearing foundation in nearly all of them, and lipstick in a good chunk. A bit less when she performs live, obviously.
I'm always astounded that so many men don't know what makeup looks like.
>it's another thing that she doesn't wear make-up
are you fucking serious? i don't think she's EVER appeared in any photo or video, or live, or anything without make up caked on. are you blind?
I know make up when I see it. Most of the time she only wears it around her eyes. The times she's wore lipstick or foundation are rare.
OP here I appreciate all the recs I'm going to sleep ill check out the rest tomorrow
Debbie is perfect. Total waifu material
she very well might be
>willing to make up with thurston if he stops fucking his mistress
>he can't stop, they get divorced, sonic youth splits
she may be the coolest woman in the world but she married the world's biggest faggot
what kind of a name is thurston anyway
Marissa. Lead guitarist/vocalist of The Screaming Females. Talent beyond belief.
imo for female artists in the r&b/hip-hop scene, their looks are part of their image and are a very important part of their appeal, just like rappers image (their style/attitude is more important than looks) is extremely important in their appeal.
>pulling an argument out of a technicality
Yeah, her face is not on the album cover but that's not the end of the story, m8. You cannot deny that she takes extra good care of her looks in order to attract an audience full of horny males who are mesmerized by the cuteness of her stage presence. In fact, one could even go as far as to argue that if Lauren wasn't fetishized by so many of her fans, CHVRCHES would never have become famous on the merits of their music alone.
Basically, the less a female artist takes care of her looks, the more eligible she is to be mentioned ITT.
Melody Prochet / Melody's Echo Chamber
I know that feel, anon.
Beautiful album, needs more recognition imo
