2010: Witch house
Is this correct? Can someone fill in the blanks, please.
Also, what's the currently hyped new genre?
this period of music has run it's course and music is a wasteland right now, we need a new era to be ushered in
lel ironny XD "maybe my musics a joke maybe it's not" shit is so fucking tired
trust fundies need to be kept from making music, violently if necessary
What's the best genre out of
witch house, seapunk, memerap, chillwave, vaporwave?
>inb4 all suck
what are the seapunk essentials?
1- A guy create a fake genre and problably post covers and post info/stuff here
2-Some guys ask examples and some people post stuff from previously existing genres that make them think of what op is saying
3-After some time, some see those examples and post similar albums to the songs they see
4-Time pass, and some like those songs people are postng and decides to make similar stuff. Their stuff ends posted on threads and fits on previously existing genres.
5-After some amount of time those guys songs are posted more then previous examples.
6-Some guys see those examples and try to copycat them, they are copying guys that copyed songs that people said it was from the fake genre. People start to follow cliches the artists of step 4 saw on the songs on step 2.
7-Now you have guys that focused on cliches.
8-With new artists seeing the artists of step 7 and following their mess, a new and real genre start to follow

Indie rock "matters" again after the indie rock press paid more attention to rap and dance for the last couple years
When are people going to realize vaporwave was an aesthetic not a genre also it's pretty much still a thing
New Wave/Art Rock revival
Something between The Smiths, Talking Heads, Tears for Fears and Joy Division will BURST outta nowhere and take control.
Also guys, genuine question - when will hip hop lose it's place as the most popular genre? I mean, it's obviously a fad. Like new wave, disco, pop-punk.
sure - but I'm talking about on the top, burning charts.
pop punk was going strong in the 70s/80s too, but then it was watered down into late 90's/early 00's sk8/pop punk. then it was saturated and died in the mid 00's. It's still going, but not on the radio.
I mean it's still like everywhere I go on the internet pretty frequently. not the music, but in pictures and such. not like it used to be but people still interested in it, much more so than say witch house, or seapunk
Tell me some Seapunk and Lolicore essentials!
Vaporwave is the only one of those genres that produced artistically valid music (namely the works of Dan Lopatin).
A lot of great works like Person Pitch have been retroactively classified as chillwave. As a genre itself it is still worth recognizing but not as much as vaporwave.
Witch house is good too.
I'm not that into seapunk, but lolicore essentials really depends on your taste. it can range from speed/splittercore to extratone, breakcore, grind, ambient, etc.
Goreshit is a staple of lolicore, doing breaks and speed mostly, but with some more ambient works
there's also people like japshitfun, who are a bit more harsh
For a p good variety of styles within lolicore, you could check out the lolicore nation album:
As for seapunk, I'm not well versed, so I asked a friend. He recommends Coven and anything from Coral Records
Wow an actual reply, thanks! Well from the stuff you posted i realized that lolicore isn't my taste. I remember reading about it consisting of loli-rape-hentai soundsamples and stuff, which sounds way more interesting than it actually sounds like.
And I can't seem to find anything about Coven... Maybe >>48164704 can help? Cuz I love me some witch house
thanks man, sounds pretty cool. gonna check it out more some time
2014 is the year of Synthwave.
Synthwave grew a ton in 2013 and it's only gotten bigger in 2014. Artists like Perturbator and Com Truise have become popular even in parts of the "mainstream" EDM community.
Some people write it off as nothing but more 80s nostalgia, but it's sure as hell refreshing to listen to compared to all of the shitty wubwub and trap EDM garbage that's dominated electronic music for the past several years.
You say neo-grunge and I think of these guys.
Or Pulled Apart By Horses
This is just a Hole imitator.
Patterns - Dangerous Intentions
Synthwave is fucking great. There's a good amount of variety in the scene too. You've got high tempo upbeat stuff, slow atmospheric stuff, etc. Some artists are dedicated to sounding as authentically 80s as possible while others freely make use of more modern sounds and production techniques. The genre isn't full of rigid rules about sound and aesthetic.
I think the biggest reason it hasn't gained the kind of viral attention that vaporwave did is because it's synthwave artists and fans genuinely like the music, they don't do it "ironically" for hipster cred and Tumblr reblogs.
Broporwave is slowly turning into future funk which might have some traction in 2014/15. Also has some parallels to Synthwave
It doesn't fall into this, since the 80s synth stuff isn't hipster meme shit. It's not garbage people pretend to like, unlike vaporwave.
Within and Without was released in 2011. Com Truise released something pretty recently. I don't think you can say it stopped at the end of 2009, it's just that the initial boom stopped and it sort of started creating releases at the rate of a normal subgenre, akin to dream pop.
Damn this thread is still alive? How awesome is that?
Thanks to everyone who recommended synthwave, didnt't knew it existed but it's cool as hell, especially Perturbator and Mega Drive.
Let's pray synthwave doesn't get the new hipster fad
there was an attempt on /mu/ to make sun metal a thing but thankfully it didnt catch on
