I remember when I thought Japan only made cheesy anime ballads. Then I found bands like Toe and World's End Girlfriend.
If this thread is still around when I'm back from work I'll post some more stuff and probably album links too. I like k-pop but its always fun to explore past the most surface aspects of a country's music.

unfortunately south korea still lacks a musical identity. You wont find much divergence like you find in japanese music.
Literally too many to list, from drone to indie to shoegaze to glitch, etc.
Here, take this now, I like everything by these guys, such relaxing vocals.
Also, k-pop ain't that bad either.

it's Trot and it's huge with the korean old ladies. the old ladies give their daughters shit for how they worship kpop idols but these fuckers went just as hard 20-30 yrs ago
My friend is into k-pop and all things Korean, he sent me some stuff a while ago. I won't post the hip-hop though, since I thought it was pretty cringe-worthy.
