Now, that you can hear it - what do you think of it?
>Thing I don't like is bait/viral marketing/shit posting/fedora
Anyway, it sounds exactly the same as loads of Until the Quiet Comes, right up to the high-pitch song for contrast like "Putty Boy Strut". I'm still looking forward to it for the features.
I could see him topping it.
I never really thought that UTQC was better than Cosmogramma but it was definitely in the same ballpark, and i've certainly had days where i was in the mood to listen to UTQC but not Cosmo.
This sounds like it'll probably be somewhere in between the two albums, with even more jazz and hip-hop elements. Basically i'm expecting FlyLo at his most extreme.
WHY THE FUCK DOES THE COVER HAVE TO LOOK SO SHITTY
>that austin peralta in the bottom left
this is gonna top cosmo
Oh shit. Is it really Kago?
I like it too. Sounds like he's going for a Downtempo aesthetic with this one. I like.
>I like it too. Sounds like he's going for a Downtempo aesthetic with this one. I like.
Yeah, specially because I loved how UTQC was so chill at times, really like a dream. This kinda mixes that with a few madness points in Cosmogramma. Probably too much based on such a short preview video but yeah anticipation
I'm also checking Kago's artwork again and I think I'll probably use some of it as alternate art hehe
From what was in the trailer, the Snoop feature sounds pretty well placed when you hear what the other tracks were like. It's as if he made the track specifically for Snoop and Murphy, which admittedly worries me because it could end up being very odd in relation to the rest of the album.
They're just instrumentals. I know it's not nothing, but it's not any new content.
TBK is 3LPs but the vinyl only costs circa $30.
I'd argue against that. Usually 50 or more is ideal in my experience.
The Cosmo and UTQC leaks were both different from their original releases.
But yeah, they have a real problem with leaks over at Brainfeeder, Thundercats second album was leaked months before it came out.
>people think cosmogramma is his best album
that would be los angeles
>acting like this album title and theme aren't solely because of Excavation
los angeles coupled with the LA 1 x 3 ep is flylo at his best
>paper crane gang
cosmo is still good but los angeles was perfect
Look it up, the leaked versions of both albums are different. Not by a lot, some songs are differently mixed and some song have tracks added or removed compared to the definitive version.
>ranking los angeles that low
in my opinion
los angeles = la ep 1 x 3 = reset EP > UTAC > July Heat > cosmogramma > pattern grid world EP > 1983
that being said i enjoy all of his stuff quite a lot
i didn't bother ranking some of his other singles and eps in there
with all this being said, new LP sounds pretty sick
this dude fucking GETS IT
My Chippy goes so fucking hard, one of my all time flying lotus favorites
LA might be Flylo's best work as a producer where Cosmo could be his best work as an artist, if i may be so assed as to make that distinction
then again on another day I might say that the truth is actually the other way around
who cares, those two albums are fantastic and it's not really a competition. excited for the new album, although honestly his last CD was a little bit of a letdown for me.
UtQC leaked about a week before the release date, although a couple tracks were out of order, song times were messed up, and the mp3s were much quieter than they should have been. Made me end up just buying a physical copy, hopefully the same thing doesn't happen when YD leaks.
oh shit. could imply the single is gonna be a cpt murphy one? i've been told by an insider source it's the kendrick one tho. i really love the sound of 'the boys who died in their sleep' so i rlly hope its that one.
little to no info about that one
not happening in september. definitely next year.
Flylo's album is being promoted right now. If there was a single, it would've happened by now,
>little to no info about Kanye's album
"All Day" is confirmed as the single, there have been various near-full-length leaks, and reliable sources have said it will be released this month.
>Kendrick's album not happening in september. definitely next year.
Confirmed by Kendrick that he's looking at various fall release dates and is currently set on September. He also confirmed that he's recorded almost 30 to 40 tracks that are going into mastering.
Rappers almost never release their albums on the first date they set. We don't even have a single yet, and I get since he's a pretty big name now he doesn't need one to get people interested in his album but he'll still want to get a more sizable buzz for it. It's not gonna come out in September, the earliest I could see it November and even then I would bet on late January instead.
I hope there's a full length Captain Murphy album coming. Theres a live song that's badass and i hope its on V

This is the song on You're Dead. I hope its this crazy
its 100 dollars with delivery.
Fuck you flylo. He has never made anything worth 100 dollars. Only reason to get it is to resell it to fanboys later.
sounds kind of goofy and impersonal iunno... I dont mind the stuff on utqc that isn't amazing cause at least i know its coming from a very pure place but this seems closer to the capt. murphy thing. I'll keep an open mind. also not into any of the anime artwork
using this as an alternate cover (because the official one is ugly)
Yeah I bet it's the same. I'm pretty sure there will be a cpt murphy album that'll come out on its own tho. And he said he'd release another tape of goodies like he did earlier before the album comes out
Idk I think it's people who are dead. And I just think its Freddie cause flylo absolutely loves Freddie, but it could be the animator, skin color looks kind of Asian. Nikki randa can't be in there cause she's white and has dark hair. If I am right it would make sense if he put some of his family there and people like j dilla, but there doesn't seem to be that so I might be wrong. Fun to guess though
I saw Flying Lotus at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.
Not bad. Cropped it so the edges of the drawing match the edges of the cover.
Each of flylos albums seem to be in a place or state. Los Angeles is obviously LA, cosmogramma is space, utqc is probably located in the soul or maybe dreams in the mind, and then this one is the afterlife. I love that, I wonder if he intentionally does that but I love it.
Yeah I'm sure someone else has, I've thought about it before this album was even announced and it still follows the pattern. He probably picked this up from film school, the idea of the album having a setting, you know? Sort of like a story told through beats. Pretty sweet
Haha yeah it's pretty intense. There was one point in his live show where everything got silent and dark, and then suddenly the screen would flash a ton, and have visuals of cgi naked girls and he would release the loudest, blood curdling, spine tingling scream. Shit was scary as fuck. Would stop and then do it again a bunch of times. Hope it's on the album
to me cosmogramma didn't just feel like space though. It seems like his most personal record as well, showing his personality and his motives.
>tfw Auntie's Harp
But on a surface level, it references space? Like Until the Quiet Comes is symbolic of dreams but actually goes pretty complex and deep into people's motivations and other aspects of people's lives?
>No Laura Darlington
Well fuck. Can't say I'm surprised that Thom isn't there though, don't think he'd fit with it and FlyLo is probably really fucking sick of journalists asking him "What's it like working with Thom Yorke?"
I can get that, but next time you listen to it try and visualize going to space. Try and tell me clock catcher doesn't sound like the moment a rocket is blasting off and that pickled isn't dodging meteors and a cosmic drama isn't watching a sunset from mars and that and the world laughs isn't meeting an alien. Sorry but this is my favorite album and I could go on and on with all the journeys I have been through with this lp. And to be honest all his albums are personal so I wouldn't say that would be the theme, it's part of it though. I mean if you went up to space and were all by yourself what would you think about? For me I would think about my family and the ones who left me and how I might be closer to them, ya know?
Sounds pretty neat. Disappointed that Darlington hasn't got a proper song though, her appearances are always highlights.
Mixed feelings on the lack of Thom. Loved And The World Laughs with You but Electric Candyman was pretty meh
if you ever get the chance definitely go 100%. Id probably drive 5 hours if i had to, its that good. just saw him for the first time this summer after missing him 3 times in a row (due to random things like a wedding). gonna see him again in november. Hopefully the show is a little different than last time. Would be cool if he did live instrumentation since it sounds so jazzy, and thundercat is coming with him. was cool when he was playing a couple new songs, but im sure ill know all of them forward and back by the time i see him haha
damn i thought the beck collaboration would be on here btw. not that i aint stoked about this whole thing.. cus it sounds fucking incredible. scared im gonna burn out the snippets like i did w utqc.
the boys who died in their sleep sounds fucking perfect. the full version's lyrics are so tight. it's about little boys who are addicted to dreaming cus their reality is mundane. creepy.
although i disagree with you, cosmogramma 2.0 wouldnt be so bad, its not like that sound is stale or something. Name 5 albums that sound like cosmogramma, seriously. anything that sounds like cosmogramma will be amazing, and it will be similar, but definitely not the same.
ya really. dr dre is the reason he produces music, so presumably hes listened to and adored snoop most his life. its awesome he got to work with an idol of his. besides, song is 2:25 long, with the cpt rapping too, so its not like it could possibly spoil the album even if its bad
& someone posted it earlier in the thread. thundercat n flylo did like a live band version of it.
Go if you can, kill someone if you have to. I went back in June (man, that feels ages away) and it was incredible. The visuals mixed with the audio was probably the best live performance I have ever seen. I also got to see a Thundercat and Captain Murphy set.
>someone posted it earlier in the thread. thundercat n flylo did like a live band version of it.
That was me lol. i'm a huge Captain murphy fan. I just wish i had his vinyl. Theres a stupid story behind why i couldnt.
Damn I really wanted to see the Live band sets but they were also too far for me
thats my biggest vinyl regret. I was gonna buy it and saw the shipping was like 12 bucks or something outrageous and i was like wtf? i could buy a whole nother album with that. Then i went back the next day saying fuck it i need this album and it was sold out. the album is probably worth quite a bit now. Id probably pay 50 bucks for it
all(?) the art is done by shintaro kago, an eroguro artist.
the guy is absolutely insane and extremely talented.
not for the faint of heart.
i had a discussion about it earlier in this thread. I argued that the people are people who have died and that the middle left would be alice coltrane and bottom right would be freddie mercury. another person just said theyd be thundercat, herbie, kendrick, and people like that. Idk we could both be right cause i dont know who the top people are, but those are my guesses
My friend who used to buy my stuff for me off the internet was out of town when they first came out. I sat there for 3 days and they sold out by the time he got back. They're now $200-$300 a piece. I just really want it to listen to it but people are ridiculous.
Yeah, I saw that, it was pretty good actually, I hadn't thought of.
I was thinking that they were people featured on the album, like Thundercat in the top left, the skeletons to represent Murphy (I'm stretching here) and the cover is like FlyLo is controlling them or something.
200? holy sheeeeiit. i should have bought 2. i wonder if people would pay that. if i was rich i would, but thats just too much when you could buy his whole discography and more with that. is the box set limited? cause im really tempted to buy it, but why would there be instrumentals for the whole album when theres just a couple songs that arent instrumentals? and i also want to see it, like if it looks nice, but if it is insanely nice i dont wanna be burned again
ya we could make up tons of theories, would love to hear what he has to say about the art, cause i personally love it, but it seems like a lot of people dont understand it and/or hate it
I hoping he goes all-out if he does do the 'commentary' thing he was saying about on Twitter, and he basically just talks all about how he was feeling with each song, what it's about, the little details and stuff.
I struggle to see how anyone feels this way to be honest. I feel like Los Angeles is a cohesive work, and I love all of his albums, but Cosmogramma feels more like sketches/ideas than Los Angeles/UTCQ.
I was in a grocery store the other day, when some kid came up to me. Came up to me and started going on about how cool it was to meet me and how he loves my music but didn't want to "be a douche"
I joked with him by saying "oh, like you're doing now?"
He didn't get the joke and just stood there all shocked, like a kid finding out mickey mouse at disneyland wasn't real. All he could say was "huh?" so I kept saying "huh" back at him to try to show i'm just messing with him.
He still didn't get it so I tried to just duck out with some milky ways but the cashier got me, so i brought them over. She just scanned one 15 times instead of just scanning them all so I told her to scan them individually. I don't even remember why, i was pretty high. She did it anyway. I winked at the guy again, he was just confused.
It was pretty funny.
Holy shit I'm so pumped, I can't wait!
