I'll start it off with my favorite release by Andres:
>mfw using Hex Pad on other tracks I mix with
Gotta love DJ tools and shit.
I post tracks I like then you guys go on to bitch and moan about me being here as usual. Also if I was here to boost my ego, I would've posted a mix I did as the OP but I didn't since it would've derailed the thread right from the start.
tensnake will never give up
i don't think he's a bad poster necessarily i think the stuff he's into is boring but whatever you think of him he's been abused onn various boards for yonks and has never slowed down
i am in a bad mood
please post ur peakest grime tunes
couple obv ones
disappointment of the year more like. he was a hero last year when Bring was about.
What's with the amricans getting upset people are talking about music they're not interested in? is it because they're taught to believe they;re the gr8est thing on the planet and when they realise that the rest of the world doesn't give a shit they get all angry?
It's pretty singular as far as I know
Could try Forward Strategy Group for some more pounding industrial-y techno vibes
holyshit. I had not idea they played together.
not really, been laid up with depression for a few months, had to interrupt uni even.
I'm just now getting myself back into everything, bought tix for the KowtonxPariahxTessela night yesterday.
Cheers man, I'm cautiously hopeful this is a proper recovery, just need to get over my anxiety issues now. I'm playing a set at Deaf Institute tomorrow night for my mate who runs Bitlord, thought it might be an idea to throw myself back into it as a sorta immersion therapy.
That Selective Hearing night is at Joshua Brookes which should be fucking sick now I hear they've upgraded their system to a Void system.
Ah sick man - I've don't know of Bitlord but it's been a few years since I lived in Manc. I used to go to Deaf Institute a lot though. What kinda stuff you planning on playing? All certified bangers I hope ;)
Didn't know Joshua Brookes had upgraded their sound. I bet it's really nice now... it was one of my favourites anyway. I love cosy basement clubs.
Bitlord's a gaming and DJ night run by the guy who used to do Secret Wars and that sister night to Drumclinic, only been running for a couple of years. Pretty eclectic vibes selection-wise. Always fun though. I'm gonna be playing a bunch of techno bangers and perhaps some 1991-style breakbeat hardcore if I feel like I can get away with it.
JB has always been pretty banging on the right night, cannot wait to finally hear the fabled Void though.
>i don't think he's a bad poster necessarily
Tensnake posts bad music, but everybody has different tastes so I don't hold it against him.
What annoys me is his constant use of reaction faces in order to "stand out", and his inability to make any sort of conversation that doesn't return back to him.
It's like his ego is so big it's not aware that there are things outside of his existence.
i just find it weird that he keeps posting the same few pictures of his legitimately ugly self despite constant ridicule. he gets fucking rinsed for how he looks every time and he doesn't care. weird
pick up some old compilations from 93-95 for the golden era
Jungle Mania 94
Jungle Mania 2
none are good.
maybe something like kvr if you just want to talk hypotheticals and technicalities.
but yeah, places like mnml, subsekt, idemforums, dsf etc are kind of useless when you get to jew-trickery levels of goodness.
very rare to see people open about jew-trickery. most times when someone with enough jew tricks takes off, they abandon ship an fuck off anyway. then you're left with the 2000 post talentless hacks.
everyone is up in here talking about joshua brooks club, my name is joshua brooks and i live near San Francisco. I've always wondered what might happen if i go there. That Pariah/Tessela/Kowton show looks nice
the upstairs is pretty depressingly grim. worst thing I remember about the club was coming upstairs for a smoke from seeing objekt or whatever and walking through a horrible wetherspoonsy pub. killed buzz tbh but the smoking area was nice at least
Work happened bro.

>implying ambient/intelligent jungle wasn't a huge leap forward for the genre in 1994
>implying Logical Progression the year after isn't still regarded as one of the most important things to happen to DnB
>implying the implications of the above disregard all that came after
Yeah you know your shit don't you.
Speaking of Logical Progressions, a reminder that this came out in 92 (with a promo being around in 91): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22PbDb69cmQ
It's remarkable how far ahead of it's time it was.
>spec req - soul music
>lee bannon - alternate/endings
>sully - blue ep
what other jungle-ish stuff is there?
i don't mean straight up jungle, but this "new" vibe of jungel going around, at like 130-140 ish
i've heard of etch and benton but i'm lookin for actual releases rather than just dubpl8s
I really do think joshua brookes it is not a good club.
The Smoking area is small with no defining features.
The Top floor looks like a rugby club
The bottom floor is ok but has a walkway going through the dancefloor.
Antwerp all the way
it's not jungle if it's 130 but check out tessela's EPs on R&S for some breaks at that tempo
also lee gamble diversions (though only one track on that is a banger but it is really good overall)
mate the smoking area is a balcony over some shitty piss river. it's tiny but it's definitely got a defining feature.
i agree about the upstairs. i hate it so much
forgot about the walkway through the dancefloor. definitely an issue on the busier nights and / or the nights where people aren't focused on the tunes.
big up antwerp mansion though. i lived about 30 seconds away
If someone can find me another album like this but perhaps with more trap elements i will give you a hug
Serious question: is there any /bleep/ (or electronic music in general tbh) that isn't 4/4?
I mean, It doesn't have to be music for the dance floor, just something that breaks the normal structure of 4/4 in electronic music.
2 new radio shows uploaded (finally)
jul 06 & august 02
also 2 new nebula tracks
Hello /bleep/ I've been trying to get into more electronic stuff but I've found the genre labeling pretty lacking. I really want to find more stuff like Lorn (https://soundcloud.com/lorn/debris) and want to find more really dark electronic stuff like it. I've found The Haxan Cloak and that's about it. Dark Ambient is too Ambient and Dark Electro is too Cyber-Goth-Kid-I-Knew-in-High-School. Please help?
is L.I.E.S. the new kompakt/dfa/profan or this decade? i.e. they'll be hot for two/three more years, and turn blasé by the time they reach their tenth anniversary.
Mate you need to watch this more?
I can't think of any of the top of my head but it I suspect there is some. You have to remember most of what is discussed in these threads is functional music to varying degrees insofar that it's to be played over big speakers and danced to... you can't really dance to 7/8 all that easily. That said probably a fair chunk of stuff could be considered 12/8 as that's just triplety 4/4.
But no, this thread is club bangers and club bangers don't bang as hard in 5/8.
That Burial track Spaceape is in an unusual time signature, come to think of it. Not really club material tho
Just to add to my previous post... didn't see that you weren't necessarily wanting dance music, in which case yeah loads and loads of 'electronic' (that means nothing btw) music isn't in 4/4.
This anon's list is good >>49095795
And I'll add a classic / prime example.
Mark Fell has some of the most erratic rhythms out there tbh
dear uneducated americans / rockists EDM is not a catch all term for electronic music that you dance to. i know it sounds stupid but EDM is a marketing term for shitty big room house and other mainstream shit were the focus is on pop melodys and chord structure.
drum and bass, techno, old dubstep, footwork, juke, real house music etc etc are not EDM
>That Burial track Spaceape is in an unusual time signature, come to think of it
stop getting your opinions from music magazines. its clearly syncopated 4/4. most producers dont have a clue about technical time signatures they just make drum patterns in your regular 4/4 grid set at 64th notes and noodle around with it.
Serious question: is there any /indie rock/ (or guitar music in general tbh) that isn't 4/4?I mean, It doesn't have to be music for the teenage bedroom, just something that breaks the normal structure of 4/4 in guitar music.
I don't reallyread music magazines, man. It's clearly not 4/4 - how do I prove this to you? Also do you really think most producers (not that Burial is 'most producers') don't know about time signatures outside of 4/4? It's pretty obviously easy in any DAW to do something that's not 4/4... anyone thats messed around in a DAW for more than 5 mins will be able to do something that's not 4/4.
yellow markers show the start of each loop
here it is against a 4/4 grid
4/4 same as 8/8 same as 16/16 same as 428/428 same as 124512585/124512585
therefore time signatures are irrelevant constructs that cannot accurately enough describe the rhythmic qualities of any piece of music
Here it is against a 5/4 grid.
You can see the syncopation and you can see that it's in 5/4.
All you boys with no ears feel free to prove me wrong, though.
why anyone hype about that moire thing?
werk discs eps were properly middle-of-the-road shit.
i'll still listen to this lp tho cause i got nothing better to do, but this boy's all reflected actress hype as far as i'm concerned
The second kick doesn't hit on the 2nd beat, it hits in between the 2nd and the 3rd. Your BPM is set too low.
The drum pattern is similar to this. The snares hit at the same time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHE_Z7B-pA8
You see this is where you don't understand metre. 6/8 is closely related to 2/4, not 3/4.
In 6/8 it's compound time and notes are grouped in 3s not 2s. 6/8 is 2 groups of 3... like 2/4 if both beats had triplet quavers.
6/8 is related to 2/4
9/8 is related to 3/4
12/8 is related to 4/4
Do your research mate. This is grade 2 shit lol
And hey, lo and behold, the beat fits perfectly into a 4/4 grid at 168 BPM.
not that other guy, but just wondering if compound time sigs would be helpful in a DAW context.
it makes sense from a performance/count-in-your-head perspective, but putting down midi for percussion in an ableton clip not so much to me. i mean i know where my accents are because that midi block is darker than the others. lel.
Mate I didn't make the rules.
It's not so prevalent with today's music, I give you that but it's borne out of the western classical tradition where a piece in 6/8 and a piece in 2/4 is quite noticeably different.
No one really uses compound time these days though but it doesn't mean that simple time and compound time aren't different.
>implying that the music in these threads isn't based on rules and conventions that emerged hundreds of years ago
unless you only listen to banghra bangers you need to fuck off and stop being such an idiot lol
You guys really thing the chords in your favourite banger aren't just a continuation of the western canon? Why is piano house just a load of major 7ths? You think the boys in Chicago set up their own tuning system and then used that to group notes together conincidentally in the same way that music from the west has been doing for hundreds of years? Do you think that if the west hadn't settled on equal temperament a few hundred years ago that dance music would've just by chance created the tuning system that it uses? Do you think that by chance bleep tunes use 4/4 and not because our culture has been using 4/4 for hundreds of years? Non western musical cultures don't measure and count musical time in the same way. Also do you think that dance music calling notes C D E F G A B and using those notes to write tunes is just another thing that happened by chance and has nothing to do with the music the west has been making for hundreds of years?
Fair enough, think 'classical' music is old and irrelevant if you want. I've never even posted in /classical/ for what it's worth... but you have to be an idiot to think that today's dance music isn't just a continuation of the principles that western cultures have been applying to music for hundreds of years now.
i do this so i can get a communicative message to you in the hopes you are intelligent enough to understand it
music is a different medium altogether, and incomprable
>genre of music has ever been made west of international date line
>automatically western music
mixesdb is your best bet
scroll down to where theyre listed by date
the mixes with a faded 'play' icons next to the date have audio in that entry
New mix from Her Records (in b4 /trendy/) boss Miss Modular is mind blowing
Glorious clusterfuck of dancehall, ballroom, jersey club and grime
It's a new record label. Very similar to the "club constructions" series that Night Slugs puts out as well as the Gang Fatale crew (Neana, etc). So think pulverizing, no-mercy club music. Miss Modular - Reflector Pack is probably the best known song. Kid Antoine - Expected Surprise is also big. Sudanim and CYPHR are the other main guys. Both had very solid releases.
>mfw DJ EZ and DJ Sprinkles are playing tonight at different venues
>mfw I don't know which one to go to
>most overrated "djs dj" alive
>i literally heard him play disclosure once, "muh garage old school legend"
stay at home, watch some christy mack, put on a doc scott mix and bun a spliff
thinking of a vinyl set up but i need some help
here's what i was thinking
>2x technics 1210
>mixer = not sure??
>rockits (what ones?)
>soundcard? what one
is that all i need? budget ~£500 (ish)? maybe moar if it's necessary
what's the diff with mk2 and mk5 1210s?
that's not so bad..?? probably less second hand if i buy 2 too
whoops meant to post something like this
this is dirt cheap, seems almost too good to be true?
anyone with more knowledge clue this one up for me?
