What's the Best Extreme Prog album?
>My pick: Portal of I
Try Angantyr maybe?
For something more like Marduk, maybe Funeral Mist
And, this is great stuff. It's interesting to think this is just a demo, hope they can get better with a proper album.
I did, just not as much as those other two.
Thanks i really really like that angantyr album!
Listened to them and like it. Any other blackened death metal recs besides sacrementum?
That Hoth album is great
X Japan - Art of Life (1993)
The album consists solely of the 29-minute long orchestrated title track. And its great.
Was anyone else not too crazy about the new Panopticon? I mean, I thought it was good but that's about it, just good. Overall a pretty average album.
I think people might be getting overexcited just because it's Panopticon and it's new.
Listening to this and wondering why I have so many grindcore albums that all sound the same.
In terms of black metal, Dodecahedron's latest effort is AMAZING. also been really into artificial brain and archspire recently. metal is on the rise again
sounded quiet for some reason to me
plus mixing felt off and i didnt dig the bluegrass jam in the middle instead of the awesome beginning on kentucky into that first scream
i enjoyed kentucky more
If you like Windir, you should check out Moonsorrow
Also holy shit did anyone else not notice the Vegvisir coming out of the sunlight until just now?
That's actually cool as fuck.
If it's here I'll post it for starters.
getting drunk and listening to this shit
Currently listening to this, haven't heard much buzz about it here, though.
Track 3 just started and I'm enjoying the album so far.
Speaking of; anyone have any thoughts on this? I probably would've scored it a couple tenths higher at an 8.3 or so.
But anons, I can't listen to absolutely everything that comes out. There's just not enough time for that.
I can't imagine how wanting SOME direction is completely unreasonable.
These guys usually get overshadowed by Alcest and Amesoeurs, but I just wanted to stop in and remind you that this album is fantastic.
Niggas out here acting like nobody has a job and/or school or some shit and don't have 16 hours a day to listen to everything that comes out.
>you just want to be told what to like and are too lazy to use your brain
This is the stupidest argument I've ever heard about anything, and you're all saying it and telling me to use my brain. Is irony the right word here?
Am I missing something here? I guess I haven't been following 2014 that closely but I feel like there must be some good atmo/ambient that I'm missing out on.
For the love of fuck decide for yourself what you want to listen to. You don't need a review site to narrow this shit down for you. You're skipping over a huge amount of releases you'd probably enjoy just because they aren't on pitchfork.
Honestly if you don't get how this fucking concept works, you're a fucking idiot.
so goddamn good. It's a damn shame they had to end the way they did.
missing the obvious one which is Gridlink - Longhena
Dirge and Panopticon imho
>Again view releases not reviews you stupid fuck
I don't understand why you want me to consult a list of names and dates? Unless I'm familiar with the band there's a pretty high chance of me not knowing what they sound like.
great trips, poor reading comprehension
Sorry to disappoint you man, I was just looking outside suggestions as to whether an album was worth a listen or not.
>I still manage to get more done than your lazy fucking ass.
lol, like you could know that.
main dude overdosed and killed himself.
you dont sound like youre familiar with anything
you sound like one of those forest rock fags who watches crazyaga with a camera for his new musics
>Too lazy to take in musical releases which can be used for background noise for first listens and has to rely on review sites to develop his taste
Nah you're a lazy cunt, managing to wipe the cheetos off your stomach doesn't count as being productive
You will never experience the cool obscurity and small world and nice music of NWOBHM...
>grow some taste.
take ur own advice lmao
2014 favorites before school started and i completely fell off the new release boat
Gridlink - Longhena
Domains - Sinister Ceremonies
Dead Congregation - Promulgation of the Fall
Boris - Noise (shut up)
Spectral Lore - III
Necros Christos - Nine Graves
Rigor Mortis - Habemus Diabolos (look this shit up good osdm)
Earth - Primitive and Deadly
I'd still rec checking out those albums he mentioned. The new Diocletian is actually pretty accessible as far as war metal and black/death goes, way more digestible than Teitanblood and it isn't 70 minutes long.
boring shitty sound that goes on way too long
probably reviewed by pitchfork if u guys like it
DSBM is a niche thing. But this album broke that everything.
People were calling it post-punk and stuff. Whatever, Lifelover did things no other bands did.
I don't even understand what you're doing anymore I just rec'd a death metal album but you say "bong and forest rock".
I probably shouldn't have even responded to all of this obvious shitposting in the first place.
no you told me to listen to some terrible garbage that people on here like to be "unique" and i told you to listen to good albums that even your buttbudy tripfag friend agreed are good
This is some grade A autism. I myself don't look at reviews but all this backlash is fucking retarded.
First of all, album reviews aren't typically just composed of "this is good listen to it" or "this sucks don't listen to it". (and if they are the critic is horrible) They explain, aka review, the material and give their take on it, you can then agree or disagree.
Second of all, if you think challenging your self-made narrative by merely looking at a different perspective other than your own somehow automatically makes you less "authentic" then you are even more insecure and retarded than the people who actually do drone review sites.
Why are these threads such shit?
>>Second of all, if you think challenging your self-made narrative by merely looking at a different perspective other than your own somehow automatically makes you less "authentic" then you are even more insecure and retarded than the people who actually do drone review sites.
where the fuck are the brutal fans tonight?
The panopticon fb posted this link a little while ago
It's pretty cool.
the opening blast beats in Slipknot's People = Shit are great. If only they would've kept it up instead of nu-metal.
Any of these you guys would rec if I really liked pic related
You kids have listened to this yet?
It's up there with Melana Chasmata and The Flesh Prevails for the MAOTY.
jesus what an ending track on this
>implying Erik didn't stab a guy from Otargos for saying Satan didn't exist
>implying their works aren't absolutely overflowing with orthodox imagery and aesthetic
Serve the Lord, with fear, and rejoice with trembling, for He is coming and will judge those who have set him at nought.
Abortions of thought creep like maggots, shattering the putrid atmosphere. Carrion sown to spirit with rusty needles.
The obscenities of an army of bruises. The pulse of a million scars. The sorrow of the sacrificed. The blood of the Lamb. Love for God has waked cold, their lights have gone out.
The land is ready to be emptied, and utterly spoiled. The judgment has been pronounced: he has destroyed them, he has delivered them to the slaughter, and rust is eating the edge of the blade. Like the Most High above the Stars of God, exalting His throne. Ascended above the heights of the clouds and sat upon the Mount of Congregation.
And thou shalt eat the fruit of thine own body, the flesh of thy sons and of thy daughters.
Thy corpse shall be meat unto the fowls of the air, and unto the beasts of the earth, and no man shall fray them away.
Crown of deathlike splendour and soul devourer. Temple of Serpent’s tongue our mouths shall be… and sword in our hands to inflict vengeance.
Prepared are for thee the instruments of death.
My hands are the shrines of creation. My skin is the vest of the messiah. My blood is the ink of the holy sword. My shadow is the twin gate. My altar dwells in thee.
The cruel Lord is near… is near to all… to all who have called upon Him… who have called upon Him in truth!
He is the One Above! His word is filled with blood, and His name is One Below.
Sathanas! Let Him come and let this world pass away.
Crown of deathlike splendour and soul devourer. Temple of the Serpent’s tongue our mouths shall be… and sword in our hands to inflict vengeance.
Prepared are for thee the instruments of Death.
You get the idea.
If you hate something you don't become it.
It's just like annoying gnostic atheists which want to shove down your throats the fact that god doesn't exist, just as much as annoying christians wanna shove down your throat the fact that god exists.
It's the exact same thing.
It doesn't matter which side you join, you're being just as extreme.
The ideals and values are different. Christianity is what some would call a "slave morality" which sees self-abasement, sacrifice, and humility as morally good. Satanism would be a more traditional "master morality" like the Norse or Greco-Roman, where pride, strength, self-empowerment, wealth, and gratification were seen as "good". In other words, a revival of the things that Christianity was the enemy of.
idk I think it makes sense in way, if you believe in christianity I don't think its a stretch to see satan as the good guy he represents stuff like pride and personal freedom where God really wants everyone to spend their entire life in worship
Currently listening to Static Tensions - Kylesa.
I enjoy stoner/sludge but it seems like there's a very limited amount you can do with the genre. I feel like they should use more synths and shit.
>I truly don't understand Orthodox Satanism.
Religion doesn't have to make sense because it's not a rational thing and should not be thought of rationally, consistently being a dick is a different thing.
If we are talking LaVeyan Satanism, which actually bestows upon you the powers of a god, it makes sense.
If we are talking "oh let's worship the red guy because too much people worship the blue guy", it's different.
But let's stop it here guise, it's getting out of hand.
And worship both Satan, Yaweh, Krishna, and Mao Tse-Tung, all at the same time.
They argue the dark imagery and themes of chaos and doom fit in well with the music. And like Nergal said, Satan represents what a lot of people stand for - rebelliousness, empowerment, and freedom.
But shit like "He is the one above! The lord is near, serve him etc." is just as bland as Christianity, I agree.
except most orthodox bands don't "hate" religion, they just oppose God because they see it as a tyrannical deity that purposefully weakens us from achieving our full spiritual potential.
well I actually find the discussion interesting but in the end it doesn't matter, most of these Theistic Satanist bands are p good and their ideals don't really affect that either way
Try stuff off this.
You are not entirely aware of how LS works.
I was just talking about the people, really.
Oh boy, oh boy.
To filter results a lil bit, do you have any issues with wankery?
Xasthur is the obvious one. Leviathan is the other one (Tenth Sub Level of Suicide).
Life Is Pain
According to Emil, the main gy in Reverorum ib Malacht, himself a former orthodox Satanist, and someone who associated with other orthodox bands such as Ofermod, since his conversion to Catholicism, no one has abandoned him or become angry with him or anything.
Orthodox Satanism usually draws on the idea that Satan is the benevolent being and God is just an asshole. The Serpent in the book of revelations for example bestowed knowledge upon man, and God hated that. God is seen as like an oppressor, and Satan as like a liberator. The idea being that on that Satanist path you grow spiritually through left hand path practices and you try to deify the individual.
I hope that helped you understand better.
I am aware how it works and its bullshit.
Yes yes, we understand you want to "be free" and "do as thou wilt" or whatever fucking bullshit they say, ALL laveyan satanists are atheists, they still use Satan as an icon, they still use religious symbols, they even have "satanic masses"
Also you say I'm "not aware" of how LS works yet you run your mouth about traditional satanists, lol.
Makes no difference, LaVeyan Satanism is a deeply hypocritical "religion" or "philosophy" like FIFH said it's just a glorified mixture of hedonism, atheism and a general self-serving attitude.
Your point being? They call themselves "the church of satan" perform "black masses" use satanic symbols, glorify satan "in a symbolic way" and they even have their own "bible" and their own "commandments."
Alright, though, cool down cause you're sounding a little bit uptight now.
Yeah, it's just basically "I'm my own god and do as I will", it's the perfect religion for narcissists and sociopaths.
I do like the 11 Satanic Rules of the Earth.
Regarding his views on suicide, Nödtveidt said "The Satanist decides of his own life and death and prefers to go out with a smile on his lips when he has reached his peak in life, when he has accomplished everything, and aim to transcend this earthly existence. But it is completely un-satanic to end ones own life because one is sad or miserable. The Satanist dies strong, not by age, disease or depression, and he chooses death before dishonor! Death is the orgasm of life! So live life accordingly, as intense as possible!"
He did it in a badass way
So here's this, the longest recorded metal track ever apparently. And now one of two bands in my library that start with a Q.
Have you the patience? The attention span?
El Mundo Frio is around that length. Coming from hardcore I usually hate long albums, but they can be good at times.
He is referring to specifically the length of the track. If we are just talking about long albums then well...
I tend to break up the listen of an album by pausing between tracks to focus on something else that demands my attention. Such as Suffocate For Fuck Sake's Blazing Fires etc., I'll usually pause every other song to take care of one thing or other, then return to sit and focus on the music.
I'll stash these to check out later. Thanks.
Hey, Mysticum is releasing a new album this month. Wow.
Ya don't see The Axis of Perdition sporting any goofy shit like PLANET SATAN.
FUCK THE UUUNIVERSE
Doesn't need to be taken seriously to be rad as fuck. I can dance to this Black Metal.
this is everyone's fav metal of the last 10 years, correct?
Hi friend I think you uploaded the wrong pic by accident.
Don't worry, I went ahead and uploaded the correct on.
I choose Dystopia as my #1 insanely-fucking-hateful-and-pissed sludge band, but EHG are still really amazing. Take As Needed For Pain is a classic.
>slide into the water
>become one with the sea
>life seems so much smaller
>swim to the moon
