Your description sucks though. This album is as far removed from metal as they've ever been.
>The album marks a notable change in sound. It combines influences of The Sisters of Mercy, Peter Gabriel-era Genesis, and, though more of a stretch, Scritti Politti. Frontman Toby Driver said the album was inspired by 80s future noir. There are no growls or screamed vocals on the album, and it is much more melodic than past Kayo Dot albums, being influenced by electronic music and dark wave.
IMO, Kayo Dot's best album in years, and easily their most accessible.
Stuart Warwick - The Butcher's Voice
Singer-songwriter pop, delicate and dreamy. Lyrically there's a focus on LGBT/gender bender themes, but if that's not your thing -- indeed even if you think that shit is kind of gross -- this album is solid enough to enjoy either way. Warwick has an incredible voice.
Koenjihyakkei - Angherr Shisspa
Japanese Zeuhl. Sounds like Magma on uppers. Wacky, busy, complex and fun.
Time of Orchids - Namesake Caution
>Time of Orchids have a unique and jarring slant on music – a wedding of staggered angularity and a sweeping, seductive beauty. This is the band's most dramatic work yet – an album that sparkles with a deceptive pop linearity and ventures maniacally outward from that base. This album boasts layer upon layer of rich, orchestrated vocals, strange guitar figures and otherworldly keyboard textures, all draped atop a rhythm section who are rock solid and complex. Weird...stunning...and weird once again, this unlike anything else except Time of Orchids.
Tartar Lamb II - Polyimage of Known Exits
Tartar Lamb is the name given to one-off bands assembled to play single compositions by Toby Driver (Kayo Dot, Maudlin of the Well). This is the second composition. The instrumentation is comprised mostly of woodwinds and bass, with the occasional synth or horn thrown in. Abstract, unsettling and extremely dark.
