I still need to hear that. I love his work with Eno so I need to get right to it
Here's a classic (in my opinion)
Is this ambient?
It's not in the "Soundcape"/Eno-esque school but it's often labeled as such, and it's god-tier.
>League of Crafty Guitarists - Show of Hands
Live performance that's mostly a bunch of guitars. It's great
>Robert Fripp - Blessing of Tears
Leyland Kirby - 'Sadly, the Future is No Longer What it Was'
must second this as well
why cant we be friends?!?!?! oh why cant we be friends?!?!?
and go home anon you're drunk. Disintegration Loops is probably the most important piece of music recorded since Stravinsky's "The Rite of Spring"
yea the 9/11 shit kinda can distract from the music but its forever inherently connected. Honestly, the coincidence between Disintegration Loops and 9/11 is like a Paul Thomas Anderson 'Magnolia' coincidence...its honeslty just too powerful a message. to quote Leyland Kirby, "It breaks my heart each time"
>Disintegration Loops is probably the most important piece of music recorded since Stravinsky's "The Rite of Spring"
i actually don't know what to say, that's so wrong. it's very beautiful either way though, I felt really great finishing it, cleansed or something
I said probably and its all a matter of opinion anyways. Regardless, I only said that for the mere factor of its irreplacable factor of 9/11/. Its a 'Magnolia' type of coincidence that leaves one to think that it cannot be just a mere coincidence. Either way, its truly a profound and emotionally gripping piece of music and statement
Vidna Obmana - Crossing The Trail
tribal ambient, really nice.
I might be a newbie to the genre, but I like this.
Post your top 5 ambient AOTY so far. Mine:
1. Golden Retriever - Seer
2. Opitope - Physis
3. Kyle Bobby Dunn - Kyle Bobby Dunn & The Infinite Sadness
4. Christopher Bissonnette - Essays In Idleness
5. Ian William Craig - A Turn of Breath
this one just came out, but I believe its safe to say this will go down as a god-tier classic
lo-fi, ambient, spooky, experimental
My favorite. I just wish there was something similar with some subtle field recordings present.
Havent listened to much but my top 5 are
1. SleepResearch_Facility - Deep Frieze
2. Carbon Based Lifeforms - Twenty Three
3. Irezumi - Endurance
4. A winged Victory for the Sullen S/T
5. 36 - Memories in Widescreen (probly not ambient like his others so subtract for any other 36 album) Its great though.
These are mostly bandcamp based, havent listened to many 'mainstream' ambient albums, but now I have some albums to work on thanks to this thread.
this is one of my three absolute 10/10, the other being The Angelic Process - Weighing Souls With Sand and Natural Snow Buildings - The Dance of the Moon and the Sun, which can also be somehow labeled as ambient.
It is amazing how you manage to post the same shit albums everytime, even for genres like ambient.
>all these mallmbient plebs
>they're posting albums that are well known and critically acclaimed in a thread about examples of the best in the genre! Why aren't you guys posting obscure stuff nobodies heard of that, of course that means it's good!
Sorry, that may have been a bit kneejerk reaction, I just hate the air of pretentiousness that comes from alot of people on /mu/ that I can't fucking stand, I just like music man.
It's just annoying to see a thread I might be interested in, and always the same albums over and over. I like music as well, and precisely because of that I'd like to find more stuff. What's the point if everytime there's an ambient thread, there's going to be Eno, Stars of the Lid and Basinski?
Can someone recommend me more like this?
I love this piano- soft synth?-ambient how it sometimes sounds really timid, cute or lonely
sorry guys but i just have to put this here
may sound pretty simple today but still one my favorites
I think this is a fantastic album.
:zoviet*france: - Shadow, Thief Of The Sun
I'm starting to really love this album. It's not too sugary like a lot of ambient music can be. It's dark but it's not terrifying; just enough to be really interesting. I also like Tin Of Drum and Fires Of The Borderlands by Rapoon. Any suggestions anyone?
ASC - Time Heals All
there is a new album too, haven't listened to it yet though
There are more albums listed here than just those three. Many albums in this thread that are great that you might not have listened to yet. Albums by Biosphere, Eno, SotL and Basinski will all be posted in every ambient thread, because they are good. Learn to start ignoring the things you already know about if you're here to discover new music.
