>there are people on /mu/ right now begging in sharethreads because they don't know how to use Soulseek
Holy fuck. Making a new thread so newfags who haven't read the sticky can see this.
It's a peer-to-peer file sharing service where you can download files directly from other people rather than using torrents or hosting it at a third party client like mega.co.nz
Easy to use, makes browsing /mu/ so much more convenient because the selection on Soulseek is fucking huge
>tfw I used to download songs individually on youtube
Thanks to soulseek I've quadrupled the size of my library of three years....in less than a month.
Fuck off, I tried for literal weeks to get a previous build of slsk, since they are unlisted on the webpage, because Nir is an idiot and he broke the font rendering when linking to QT5 and he hasn't fixed it in well over a year now, and he still refuses to open source his piece of shit, so someone more knowledgable can actually fix it.
instead of sharing my disorganized plen af library, I share pdfs, mobis, and ebubs of novels and textbooks
> people decide they want to download >60 Cambridge University Press textbook pdfs that they will literally never read and this happens regularly
I don't stop them because it's not like it's that much bandwidth, but seriously, what goes through their heads?
i'm amazed at the stuff Soulseek has sometimes. I find super obscure stuff there that no torrent tracker has (believe it or not, what.cd doesn't have everything). Slsk is the only place online you can actually get it.
>using SLSK as your main method of acquiring music
Fucking lol have you even heard of What.CD and RuTracker? You know, places where you can actually download full albums in the same format instead of getting a bunch of mixed transcodes from different users because everyone on SLSK is a retard?
They have a setting to not share files with anyone who isn't sharing anything. So majority of the stuff on there you won't be able to get. But you're probably just looking for pleb shit you can find anywhere anyways.
It does, you're just too retarted to notice it just like the rest of SLSK userbase
RuTracker doens't have everything but with what.cd you're pretty much covered. You only need SLSK if you want to download some hyper-obscure avant-teen bullshit you saw antiwarhol or hampus rate on RYM
the other user set a maximum size for people downloading from him. when you get to the "too many megabytes" files, just quit soulseek and start it again
probably because people rip their own cds
>You only need SLSK if you want to download some hyper-obscure avant-teen bullshit you saw antiwarhol or hampus rate on RYM
top lel, you actually believe this ? soulseek has way more jazz available than what.cd for example
I have all of those, but Soulseek wins because it's faster, has more stuff, and has no ratio requirements.
And you only get transcodes from downloading basic stuff.
Open up your albums in adobe audition you faggot.
>way more jazz
>some hyper-obscure avant-teen bullshit
Yeah that's what I said you figgit. What.CD alone has all the good jazz.
>I have all of those, but Soulseek wins because it's faster
SLSK is retardedly slow since it relies on downloading things from a single private user with a shitty upspeed connection. If you genuinely think it's faster you're a fucking idiot.
>has more stuff
Debatable. I very much doubt "SLSK" has more than what.cd and RuTracker combined since the userbase of those two trackers is far greater than that of SLSK.
>and has no ratio requirements.
Which is exactly what it's slow as shit -- people don't feel the need to share the music they have so they limit or disable their upspeed connection.
It's pretty obvious that you suck at everything in life and deserve to die.
>What.CD alone has all the good jazz
would you, by any chance, be a part of the what internet defence force that flooded the board when mutracker was created ? I find this quite pathetic you have to spend your entire days on 4chan looking after something bad being said about your site just for the sake of replying to it
are you doing it for free, or for no monetary compensation ?
I used to use RuTracker but it only has the big names which is why I had to get slsk which has had basically everything I've ever wanted (not necessarily in the format I want it but I've learned to calm down, the music is what's important).
I always laugh when I check my uploads and see the random assortment of stuff people download from me. If I had more time I would probably block all those people who try to download that one hit single from an album I have. At that point, just go use youtube.
My taste is amazing I listen to everything from Schoenberg to Xenakis, from Armstrong to spejs, and some rock and pop as well.
You're just mad that it's objectively better than SLSK when it comes to anything that isn't super-obscure avant-teen garabe and you don't have an invitation.
I meant faster when trying to loof for and download a lot of stuff. Of course, the download speed will be slower, but I can wait.
>Debatable. I very much doubt "SLSK" has more than what.cd and RuTracker combined since the userbase of those two trackers is far greater than that of SLSK.
I would like to believe you, but Soulseek almost never fails me, and if it does, I just download it from What or Rutracker and start uploading it and it's added to the Soulseek database.
>Which is exactly what it's slow as shit -- people don't feel the need to share the music they have so they limit or disable their upspeed connection
What? Almost everybody shares their libraries.
>It's pretty obvious that you suck at everything in life and deserve to die.
I hate to tell you this, but it sounds like you are projecting.
I love my life and have been doing great.
>no Paul Dolden
Yes, you do have basic taste c:
i've already got a good what.cd buffer so i don't actually want to put effort into slsk as well
plus when i reach my max upload i can barely use the internet at all and who would even want to dl at that speed anyway
Damn straight I am you fucking peasant.
>I meant faster when trying to loof for and download a lot of stuff
Yeah, because a proper tracker like what.cd that you simply search the band and find it immediately is so much slower than having to sift through hundreds of shitty results that give nothing? Lol
>when it comes to anything that isn't super-obscure avant-teen garabe
but that's exactly what Schoenberg and Xenakis are, my good man, they're even the kind of stuff on the antiwahrol list you seem to despise so much
79kb/s is a good speed when it comes to rare albums. for some stuff in my library the download process took up to more than 24 hours, because the uploader had shit speed and huge queue. so your 79kb/s will eventually be appreciated by someone who couldn't find any better, believe me
Except you get all the shitty results as well like half-full folders and shitty qualities.
It takes literally no time to do the same on what.cd. Just search the artist and BAM, there it is, properly listed in all the qualities available.
wat r dem filterz plz i dno't no how 2 uz a basik t00l plz
>It takes literally no time
yeah, you were obviously about to save the world from hunger and wars during these 30s you just gain using what
Fair enough. It takes objectively much less time than having to sift through shit results on SLSK. Happy?
Of course you're not, you're upset that someone isn't swallowing SLSK shit hook line and sinker.
Everything you loved about Morpheus, Kazaa, and Limewire. Because we totally didn't abandon those networks in favor of torrents and the cloud because they were non-secure and lousy with RIAA.
Have you even seen the chat rooms and looked at what people share? It's like antiwarhols private sharing party. Fuck you.
>takes 40minutes to download an album
>thinks slsk is fast
You know it entirely depends on the user's upload speed, just like fucking torrents?
Soulseek's always been for the electronic music enthusiasts, don't understand your obsession with calificating hipsters
no one ever goes in chatrooms, it's totally useless (on soulseek or anywhere else) unless you have no friends to talk about your hobby with irl
I can understand kids born after fast internet to get pissed off because their attention span isn't longer than 3mn, it's ok
the only thing I wonder about them is how do they deal with stuff with mandatory wait, like a package to be delivered or exam results, do they just roll on the floor in anger until it's delivered ?
