Feel like making one. Basically /mu/core but Japanese version. Nippon music is discussed fairly often around here but usually the ones making the threads are also those that ask for recs, so...
So far I've got pic related, name more releases in this thread for me to add.
Nah, I want to add albums that are discussed often whenever there's a Japanese music discussion. Like /mu/core, you know.
Oh yeah, Boris! Can't believe I forgot about them.
His best record I'd say.
Also add Boris on that chart. Akuma No Uta is my favourite.
/mu/'s taste & discussion of japanese music is stagnant af and this is just going to make things worse
besides, mootkips has done the same thing (and a lot better) in text form with his pastebin
Shugo Tokumaru - Port Entropy
Shugo Tokumaru - Night Piece
Sakanaction - DocumentaLy
i hope you're not planning to fill out 40 boxes because there isn't THAT much japanese love on /mu/
merzbow is a must, so is boris as the guys above said
Envy gets quite a bit of love
maybe also the Eva soundtrack because of its meme status
Well I stated that boring idea pretty clearly in the OP.
I know that text link but to be honest it can't really help newcomers, there are way too many to choose from.
Yeah I think I can do that
my favorite track on port entropy
toe - The Book About My Idle Plot On A Vague Anxiety
>I know that text link but to be honest it can't really help newcomers, there are way too many to choose from.
Plastic Tree - Kimyou na Kajitsu
Zazen Boys- Zazen Boys II
the point I'm trying to make is that I disagree with the claim that "it can't really help newcomers, there are way too many to choose from" because I believe that the aformentioned pastebin encourages at least some degree of exploration as opposed to being spoonfed a small list of "essentials", while you might think what you are doing is helping newcomers, it's kind of a hindrance to discussion as it encourages newfags to listen to the same shit as everyone else, and not explore shit for themselves, and thus not bring anything new to the table
maybe I'm just being an autistic bellend who should be ignored...
also please include Jacks - Vacant World for the psych rock fans out there. it's an amazingly atmospheric album and i've NEVER seen it mentioned here.
Les Rallizes Denudes - Heavier than a Death in the Family
Happy End - Kazemachi Roman
Boredoms - Vision Creation Newsun
Acid Mothers Temple & the Melting Paraiso U.F.O. - La Novia
Harumi - s/t
Yellow Magic Orchestra - Solid State Survivor
Mass of the Fermenting Dregs - s/t
Ling Tosite Sigure - Inspiration is Dead
Wakusei Abnormal - Nandemonai Kyouki
Tokyo Shoegazer - Crystallize
Shinsen Kamattechan - つまんね
DJ Krush - Strictly Turntablized
DJ Krush & Toshinori Kondo - Ki-Oku
World's end girlfriends - Hurtbreak Wonderland / Seven Idiots
pasteboard - glitter
Ryoji Ikeda - dataplex
Serph - Vent
Aoki Takamasa & Tujiko Noriko - 28
Mouse on the Keys - And Anxious Object
Ryo Fukui - Scenery
The Seatbelts - Cowboy Bebop OST
Akira Yamaoka - Silent Hill OST
Very solid so far, add some Serp, Spangle call Lilli line, MOTFD and Palmless prayer/mass murder refrain of Mono and WEG.
SOme Blood Stain Child for metal would be nice too, and Bondage Fruit, Effe visible/invisible is a fantastic electronic album too.
Some perfume too, because it's perfume.
Number Girl (www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRglM_0l-Tc) should be included if you're going to put Zazen Boys in btw. They play Fugazi-ish post-hardcore but it has a gritty edge to it. The frontman for Zazen Boys was the frontman for Number Girl. ZB can be hit or miss - Their first, third and most recent albums are really meh. Number Girl are more consistent/influential.
Also throw in Bloodthirsty Butchers - Kocorono (www.youtube.com/watch?v=CA_Rg4GiK_s). It's basically the Japanese Zen Arcade.
I'd say Cowpers belong there too but I'm biased because I like Cowpers a lot. Nobody listens to Cowpers on /mu/.
Tokyo Jihen - Sports
Jun Togawa - Tamahime Sama
Les Rallizes Denudes - 77' Live
Yapoos - ヤプーズ計画
Sajjanu - Pechiku!!
Taeko Onuki - Sunshower
Guernica - Kaizo He No Yakudo
Not >>51205956, but 何でも無い凶器
Pale Cocoon - 繭
My Dead Girlfriend - Underdrawing For Three Forms Of Unhappiness At The State Of Existence
Oeil - Urban Twilight
Kenichiro Nishihara - Humming Jazz
Uyama Hiroto - A Son of the Sun
Yuji Ohno - Cosmos
Kimonos - Kimonos
Merzbow - 1970
High Rise - Dispersion
Ground Zero - Revolutionary Pekinese Opera
Eiko Ishibashi - Drifting Devil
After Dinner - Paradise of Replica
Ai Aso - Lone
Haruomi Hosono - Hosono House
Clammbon - スリーピース
Keiji Haino - The Book Of "Eternity Set Aflame"
Phew - Our Likeness
Ruins - Burning Stone
Ryo Fukui - Scenery
Imahoritsuneoyoshidatatsuya - Dots
385 - 脳みそあらおう
>not a single mention of downy in this entire thread
I want you all to leave /mu/ forever
I already posted my recommendations.
>two albums with Mono and WEG involved
>Maximum The Hormone are pretty fun but not "essential", especially since the album you posted is full of filler
>Putting Kyary on there when Capsule exists
>including Envy's least noteworthy album
They just seem like really arbitrary choices.
Better have a damn good excuse for not having this on there
Can't believe this hasn't been mentioned
Koenjihyakkei - Angherr Shisspa
Oops no idea why the images didn't show up.
Fushitsusha - Live
keiji hano - I Said, This Is the Son of Nihilism
Melt-Banana - Cellscape
Masayuki Takayanagi - Eclipse
Essential. Also Kashiwa Daisuke sucks and shouldn't be on there but that's just my opinion :^)
oh sorry didn't see it. Kashiwa Daisuke is a typical example of something that became essential because a lot of people don't really listen to other music in the genre and therefore can't see how vastly inferior it is. Also m-muh glitch gimmick.
Also maybe throw in Angel'in Heavy Syrup - Angel'in Heavy Syrup IV
I'd say La Novia gets more discussion when it comes to Acid Mothers Temple albums, so I'd replace that.
Also not sure if it counts as a compilation, but yellow loveless is definitely jap/mu/core
>he doesn't like Kashiwa Daisuke
You should add something by Hiromi Uehara, maybe The Trio Project or Brain.
Also, LITE - Phantasia and Michio Miyagi - Masterpieces of Koto.
as one dude said, these threads are really eh because jap discussion on here is so stagnant as fuck and always the same shit
needs to be on here
This is some good Japanese hip-hop, highly recommended
>as one dude said, these threads are really eh because jap discussion on here is so stagnant as fuck and always the same shit
There have been about a hundred albums posted in this thread alone in not so much time. Pretty sure it's way more than music from other countries bar usa and uk.
