>>51454758 >my personal favorite Time Machines II would probably be a contender too but it is way too new to decide, needs more listens I feel the same way with Man Bites Dog - Noir. Its the only album i really liked from this year but this year is pretty weak
>>51455252 can we stop assuming people who like albums that got a good review on Pitchfork are drones who can't form opinions? Albums aren't only given to Pitchfork and readers of Pitchfork. It is possible to like these albums without the insights of Pitchfork. I didn't even discover Sunbather through Pitchfork.

>>51455684 >excellent critique It is. They're undistinctive to the point of unremarkability >stopped reading Please tell me how Seven Idiots, Program Music I, and a lot of other Japanese works are not cheesy
>>51455718 >It is. They're undistinctive to the point of unremarkability lol call them "bland" next that'll show me >Please tell me how Seven Idiots, Program Music I, and a lot of other Japanese works are not cheesy No, you're actually retarded and I'm not going to entertain you. >>51455739 ok >>51455741 >ersatz shoegaze >muh genre stagnancy!! >>51455747 Then you're in no position to criticize me. >>51455759 You already ruined your own thread with one of the worst Deerhunter releases. >>51455769 do tell
>>51455799 >lol call them "bland" next that'll show me Sure, I can call them comparatively bland to the better music this decade. >No, you're actually retarded and I'm not going to entertain you. Says Mr. Weebteam. >Then you're in no position to criticize me. People with greater taste cannot criticize those with lesser taste?
>>51455829 >Sure, I can call them comparatively bland to the better music this decade. And it'd be equally meaningless. >Says Mr. Weebteam. You sure got me by acknowledging my open-mindedness. >People with greater taste cannot criticize those with lesser taste? That's yet to happen. >>51455840 thanks wanna bang?
>>51455799 It is a stagnant genre. There's literally no point in listening to those bands, let alone considering them the best of the decade. Whirr is to shoegaze as Explosions in the Sky are to post-rock. Or the Black Keys are to blues rock.
No one is actually going to remember any of that shit you posted. It's all disposable. I think you're trying too hard to make your list unique.
>>51455855 >And it'd be equally meaningless. To one who is deluded, perhaps. >You sure got me by acknowledging my open-mindedness. Worse-taste-edness. >That's yet to happen. Says the popular pleb. >>51455857 cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesy
>>51455900 Not really. Anyone can take jazz and swing and translate those ideas into post-electro-dance-whatever. tbh I'm surprised it hasn't been done before.
It isn't bad it's just a bit, corny and dull. Calling it the best album of the decade is asinine. It will have no influence whatsoever. It's niche, just like the releases from those Japanese MBV clones you posted.
>>51455907 >without the cheese factor >like Adz LMAO HAHAHAHAHAHA >>51455911 >glad to see yesterday i was getting blown the fuck out All that's happened so far is some dumb anons who have listened to maybe a fourth of my list have given substanceless criticism and demonstrated close-mindedness. >>51455935 >And this isn't more pointless? No, since it's recognizing your own pointlessness. >>51455941 Why not? I don't think there are other albums like it this decade.
>>51455948 listening to the first time now >>51455980 >LMAO HAHAHAHAHAHA see >>51455935, which has actually substantive music commentary >No, since it's recognizing your own pointlessness. ...says the popular pleb... >>51455985 Seriously, every Japanese piece and album I have heard (except Hosokawa and Takemitsu) has been super cheesy.
>>51455998 Aren't you, like, considered one of the worst posters on this board after posting for like a week? >>51456012 >self-aware cheesiness >it's good because it's bad ironically! go listen to kanye lmao >...says the popular pleb... what a pointless reply >>51456025 >if you're going to look back on this decade and consider it the era of the bilinda butchers and whirr, then you are a shit taste plebeian. Oh, was I supposed to post albums that were more "important" even though I like them less? >because everyone else recognizes its not very good oh i wasn't aware
>>51456060 >I don't remember posting any Japanese MBV clones I'll refresh your memory, friend :^)
>東京酒吐座 - Crystallize >Broken Little Sister - Memories, Violet & Demons >Burrrn - Blaze Down His Way Like the Space Show >My Dead Girlfriend - Underdrawing for Three Forms of Unhappiness at the State of Existence
All of these are mediocre shoegaze bands that rip from MBV and other popular shoegaze bands either directly or indirectly.
Shoegaze will always be inferior music because everything every band in the genre sets out to accomplish has been done before by better musicians. It is cheesy. Not all Japanese music is cheesy, but most shoegaze is.
>>51456115 no i actually answered op's thread and your reply to me was pointless you've yet to make a legitimate criticism about any of the albums i've posted >>51456122 at least i'm relevant >>51456127 i posted a refutation of your claim, dumbfuck >>51456140 >can't read tripcodes >all shoegaze = mbv ripoff >non-innovative = cheesy lol should've guessed you were this retarded >>51456164 bad taste
>>51456222 *most* trips suck. there are good ones though >>51456236 >no i actually answered op's thread I did too. > and your reply to me was pointless Criticism is pointless? >you've yet to make a legitimate criticism about any of the albums i've posted They are unremarkable and do not deserve the distinction "best of the decade."
>>51456255 >6.68 = not very good nice inflated rating scale >>51456261 >I did too. where >Criticism is pointless? You never offered any. >They are unremarkable and do not deserve the distinction "best of the decade." Is this seriously the best you can do? This is your attempt at "legitimate criticism"? Please never discuss music again.
Pic related is also a contender >>51456140 That's the other tripfriend mister >>51456170 Oh. It's funny how that album is the best thing to ever come out of Night Slugs. The other guys should step their game up
>>51456236 >can't read posts >the shoegaze from Japan you listed = ripoff of most early shoegaze bands in some capacity >using ideas that have been done by others to the point of cliche = cheesy lol should've guessed you were this retarded
>>51456297 I posted Age of Adz >You never offered any >Is this seriously the best you can do? This is your attempt at "legitimate criticism"? Please never discuss music again. Is Franz Berwald ever considered the greatest Romantic composer of his time? No. He wrote good music but compared to the other musicians of his time, he was ordinary, undistinctive. Likewise with Stamitz, Pleyel, and all manner of classical era composers.
>>51456356 >can't read posts >can't read trips >the shoegaze from Japan you listed = ripoff of most early shoegaze bands in some capacity Because that's the definition of the genre. >using ideas that have been done by others to the point of cliche = cheesy What's cliche about it? >>51456360 hey anon it's ok to have your own taste you don't always have to agree with who's considered the "greatest" >>51456369 A 6.68 isn't mediocre. It also isn't AOTY-worthy, but that's because I didn't rate it a 6.68. >>51456385 >everything-fucking-thing lol
>>51456438 >hey anon it's ok to have your own taste you don't always have to agree with who's considered the "greatest" If you are seriously saying people could think Berwald, Stamitz, Pleyel, Hoffmeister, or any other forgettable composers could be considered GOAT, you clearly both 1) Know NOTHING about art-music. 2) Have shit-taste.
>>51456602 I pity you, honestly. You feel like through listening to all manner of obscure popular music, you've acquired some kind of status symbol. You feel like it verifies a status as "patrician" when, in fact, it means little to nothing. You're not Friendo. And you won't be unless you start to take music seriously.
>>51457090 >>51457089 I have found absolutely everything by them, as well as all the mu-core, boring as fuck. I found Delouced boring as fuck, and I've found everything else by them boring as fuck, and I've found everything by at the drive-in boring as fuck except for Vaya. This is basically something by Can, but it is a pretty good apporximation and every single thing that is said or played is on key.
>>51457158 >>51457162 I could really have picked any DG release and thrown it in just because they're all so idiosyncratic. I'd personally probably pick NLDW at the moment. But if Jenny Death ends up being half as good as NoTM, then The Powers That B will probably be my album of the decade until something dethrones it
Both the Seer and To Be Kind are both up there too tho
>>51457456 What are you talking about? You want me to say something more along the lines of "Kid A is Loveless without the ingenuity or raw emotion" and "Frances the Mute actaully sounds much different than the direction of Post and Progressive rock." How is my criticism failing?
>>51457743 What determines if it's forgettable and boring? I remember it and it stimulates me. Not their fault if it doesn't do the same for everyone. >You're weirdly defensive about this "IT DUZNT NEED TO B INNOVATIVE 2 BE GUD GUISE" shit. You're weirdly aggressive about arguing against me.
>>51457801 >Not their fault if it doesn't do the same for everyone. Except it fucking is. As artists, they are responsible for coming out with a good and interesting product, and at least making an attempt to be unique. Whirr does none of these things.
>You're weirdly aggressive about arguing against me. tbh you're just painfully wrong about everything and it irritates me .
>>51457888 >As artists, they are responsible for coming out with a good and interesting product And they do. >and at least making an attempt to be unique I can easily distinguish them from other shoegaze artists.
>>51457968 you always defend WHirr. You have a p good taste in shoegaze i just don't understand why you like whirr so much .THey are boring and uninspired. THey sound like every other twobit shoegaze start up in my goddamn state. Except whirr is 10x edgier so they get all the hype/fame
>>51457815 Because all art criticsim is referential and based upon personal experience, uniqueness, and/or talent. How is mine any less arbitrary than yours? I'm only making the an arguement to infect someone else's mind with the notion that another person can have another personalized experienece with a certain peice of art in reference to another piece of art. There is clearly more going on with one album than another in that one is more minimalist and one is more jazz, why does Kid A break over into being good enough to be interesting?
>>51458015 I don't get why they get so much hate. They have a great blend of post-rock and ambient influence, their guitar tone and mixing is spot-on, their songwriting actually has forward progression, which is valuable in a genre that relies on verse-chorus structure too much. Uninteresting shoegaze bands to me would be Cheatahs, Conheartist, Swervedriver, She Sir, or A Sunny Day in Glasgow.
>>51458564 I would have to disagree and assert that No Joy's arrangements are much more original sounding and take me to more interesting places rather than hearing a whirr song and immediately thinking where they lifted the ideas from.
>>51458757 Whirr has more variation in guitar tone than No Joy, ranging from ethereal to noisy. Both No Joy and Whirr use the latter in much the same way, but Whirr knows when to change it up and include guitar interplay or let the bass take precedence over guitar. >>51458862 Around > Distressor > Wait to Pleasure > Pipe Dreams > Ghost Blonde > Sway Still have to listen to Pastel and Pass Out. Forgot it existed actually.
>tfw too emotionally attached to my aotd to post it here bc it's also my favorite album >tfw kids on my news feed that i know irl post last.fm 3x3s, make statuses about shoegaze and it makes me feel like shit
>>51459036 >anxiety, sadness or depression, anger, irritability, mental confusion, low sense of self-worth, etc., behavioral symptoms such as phobic avoidance, vigilance, impulsive and compulsive acts, lethargy, etc., cognitive problems such as unpleasant or disturbing thoughts, repetition of thoughts and obsession, habitual fantasizing, negativity and cynicism, etc. Interpersonally, neurosis involves dependency, aggressiveness, perfectionism, schizoid isolation, socio-culturally inappropriate behaviors,
>>51458437 >the vocals are really weak yeah >the guitar work is nothing new i guess but it's effective >incredibly soulless and mechanical i have no idea how one could think this that album is a joyous fucking roller coaster ride, and the "mechanical" bits are probably the sole best thing about it (see Generation) alas, who cares, i dont really like TBLA or Nails that much either
>>51458928 >Whirr has more variation in guitar tone than No Joy
Have you actually ever even listened to No Joy holy fucking shit. They change up their guitar sound on almost every song on Wait 2 Pleasure. I agree that Ghoste Blonde is a little monotonous. But with whirr its like their guitar same guitar tone is consistent across the board with each release they put out which in turn make everything they make sound the exact same. No Joy is taking steps forward while Whirr is just staying stagnant on the same ideas theyve had for the past couple years.
>>51459119 It's not though. The neurotic person fixates on and worries about very minor things, like his friends posting last.fm 3x3's and a bunch of strangers on a board intended for talking shit, talking shit about his favorite album.
>>51459196 I'm not worried about people talking shit about the album. It's just an album I consider close to my identity, and I don't really get anything out of sharing it with other people. Seeing a bunch of people (especially people I don't respect) loving it would probably change the way I feel about the album and I don't want that.
>>51459294 What you really mean is that you don't want to lose any epic hipster cred by having your loser friends who are the same as you have the album in their 3x3 and post it on Facebook or wherever.
>>51459158 Guitar tone was the wrong term. I should've said the way they played the guitar. Keep by Whirr is a good example of their variation from dynamic ambient playing to repetitive noisy playing. It seems the guitar in No Joy is always for the sake of creating a wall of sound.
>>51459389 >cred wouldn't I tell other people if I wanted cred? >hipster ok, clearly you just don't understand what I'm talking about at all. nice job resorting to shallow insults questioning my motive for liking something. >>51459369 lol
>>51459501 If you truly were too emotionally attached to your album to post it here and you don't gain anything by posting it why did you even post? It's so obvious you want attention. On an anonymous imageboard. Seek help immediately.
>>51459437 Once again I can think of multiple examples where No Joy uses the guitar for things other than "walls of sound." That song you sent to me is exactly what you said No JOy was doing in their work.
>>51459609 I wanted to hear others' opinions on my mental issues, the album itself isn't important to the post. and I got that so thanks anon! but your opinion seems far too 4chan "hurr attention whore" to be useful
>>51459650 Really? The way each instrument is layered on in the first couple minutes is anything but wall of sound. They wait to use that so there's more power behind it, transitioning between them with feedback before returning to the softer playing. No Joy uses wall of sound much more liberally in comparison. >>51459731 It's not really the songs that are monotonous so much as the album itself. Have you listened to the Distressor EP? Much more variety between tracks.
