Last day of November, the year is basically over. Let's see 'em, mu.
Lots of solid releases this year, but Bestiary for me was just so damn fucking good, I was not expecting that at all.
Joplin Rice - Spine Adagio Part II & The Prince
that's definitely in my top 5
great pick OP
I meant A) that is not the best album that came out this year and B) That couldn't be the best album this year because it doesn't even top her last album, but I guess I have to spell everything out for you guys.
>That couldn't be the best album this year because it doesn't even top her last album,
I don't see what not topping the last album has to do with being the AOTY for this year.
>A) that is not the best album that came out this year
I disagree. Hence why I posted it in this thread, which is about what album you thought was the best of this year. You seem to be confused, anon.
If you meant that, you should have sad that. Don't get annoyed when people can't read minds
That's cute you think it's the aoty, you probably think like at least a DOZEN albums came out this year, maybe more! That's quite a few albums! Surely too many to listen to!
The point of forums is to discuss and debate and you're upset because I disagreed with you.
+1 for AOTY
PUSSY I BEEN REAL GOOD ON ANY STREET UP SHITS CREEK IN SHITSVILLE, NIGGA
right now I'm undecided between this...
I think rattlesnake is a good stripped down track, Birth in Reverse is a catchy single, Huey Newton is a cool gritty song and Digital Witness plays with a new sound for Annie Clark I think she should explore more. However, I think Prince Johnny is extremely half baked and the album might as well end after Psychopath because the last two tracks are forgettable. I think she's a good musician who is experimenting with a new style but the album doesn't fully realize it. Strong 7/10
Is that what you wanted, Anon?
>tfw theres only a month left
>tfw still have so many albums left to listen to
>tfw not enough time
also, TBK is AOTY obviously
It just couldn't be more fun and catchy, while remaining unique enough to be interesting throughout.
Probably one of the best ambienty albums I've ever heard, really impressed
haven't been around looking for music lately. anything worthwhile in the rap department released lately ? I loved Kill Bill's Ramona and pic related
here's a list of some of the things I enjoyed this year
Sensei - Return To The Village 1998 (2014)
>trap / playstation 1
I love every song, but try Supressed Uzi or Gold Katanas. I think the beat from Symmetry is from Metal Gear Solid but I haven't confirmed it, anyone know for sure ?
I agree with this. The last three songs are actually some of the best I think, and work really well together. Severed Crossed Fingers is a fantastic closing song and probably my favorite closing song off of any of her albums.
This year is so disappointing. I feel like I'm asking "Is...is that it?"
I like Psycopath too but ehh i dont really enjoy Every Tear Disappears
Really? I Prefer Your Love and Bring Me Your Loves are way more uninteresting and borderline tiring imo
This, but there were a bunch of great albums this year.
This dub verison of Hot Dreams makes me so happy.
nice choices anons
note: RTJ2 replaced w/ Shabazz Palace's Lese Masjesty & Flatland replaced with Lee Gamble's Koch
rad list, but i don't see what's so special about run the jewels
THere's still some i've yet to listen to, but so far it looks like its gonna be this
Pretty fun album.
Not even the best album of the month it was released.
I like it but it's not something I would listen to that much.
This is my third year keeping a yearlong "best of" list. I've been doing a ton of re-listening in the past few weeks and I still have a to listen to a ton of other albums.
Solid album. Her best for sure. I'm happy to see her move past indie.
Pretty good, if not a bit overrated
Yep, this is awesome. Screw you guys.
What We Loved is not Enough is such a great song.
Ruins is the only great one there. Well... To Be Kind is good too.
BBNG are so good live
It's a good album, but The Seer is so damn good and I can't help but compare them. To Be Kind is like The Seer without variety.
Good stuff. Recently picked that up on vinyl. Second best ambient album of the year (behind Kyle Bobby Dunn & the Infinite Sadness)
I liked it quite a lot, but I don't know where those crazy high ratings are coming from. It's not THAT good...
How's the new Cibo Matto? Haven't heard it yet. I love Viva La Woman.
The new Vashti is lovely, and Dva is cool too.
Niggas on the Moon is amazing, but I'm avoiding rating it until I've heard both discs.
This is awesome. They'd be my concert of the year.
I have a tie between pic-related and the new Tujiko Noriko album.
Her earlier albums were a bit of a bland indie pop. Nothing too original there.
She's completely changed genres now, and sounds a lot more original which is to her favor.
I didn't really mean to put down indie, even if I'm not a fan of the genre.
It's her best yet IMO! The 15 minute opening track is fantastic, and the 10 minute closer is just beautiful. The songs in between them are nice too.
It is though. As someone who prefers glitchy experimentation over hip hop, this is the album I've been waiting for them to release. It's so all over the place and exciting, and the lyrics (not to mention the fantastic delivery of them) are so cryptic.
Cryptic lyrics are for people who have nothing to say but still want to sound intelligent. The music itself is alright but the aesthetic is wearing thin and the "all over the place" style verges on annoying more than interesting
>why write meaningful lyrics when i can just make random strings of words and have my fans attribute meaning to them for me
I'm sure no artist needs you to be their defense force, stop pretending this shit is deep.
Nothing ended up topping this, nothing.
In 2-3 years people will likely realize just how otherworldly it truly is.
All good choices. This is certainly up there
Last year was a disaster, other than the obvious top 5 of the year:
>Push the Sky Away
>Perils From the Sea
with Government Plates as an honorable mention.
Just erase the record books for that year other than those albums.

Well she doesn't live in Japan, the album wasn't recording in Japan, the label isn't from Japan, most of the musicians on the album aren't Japanese, and a great deal of the lyrics aren't in Japanese... I think you might have no idea what you're talking about.
It's true, he's not the best vocalist. But he's gotten better, and I now consider his vocals to be...okay. He writes great emotion filled lyrics though, and his vocals do carry a lot of that emotion with them.
So do you just refuse to listen to any foreign music or what?
Have you listened to A New White by Subtle?
My aoty. Wood Spider - Decadence
No, i've listened to very little hip-hop this year.
Niggas on the Moon, being the disappointment that it was, really drubbed my enthusiasm for the genre this year. Lese Majesty single-handedly saved hip-hop in 2014. RTJ2 ended up being a nice addition, too.
130+ posts and no one mentioned USA Out Of Vietnam?
definitely my aoty
Yeah ok, it's the best it's ever been. It's still weird/shitty. And 11 minutes of weird droning repetitive shit is not my preference, that's all. It's hard to write good songs though, so I mean I don't want to be too hard on anyone, but at the same time, I'm not just going to accept whatever shit people put out there.
>So do you just refuse to listen to any foreign music or what?
All I'm saying is for me personally, a woman singing Japanese over some weird Postal Service type electronic beats ain't for me. To be honest holy fucking christ I had to turn that shit off
and Uicorn Porn's The White Stag are obviously the best instrumental releases this year. The leaked version of the white stag is fucking GOAT. Goddamn, best psych/prog album I've heard in years.
pic totally related
hnngggg those textures...
this album has so many references to the area of Northeast Ohio where i live and it makes it even better/more depressing to me
and he says my birthday on Ben's My Friend
fuck everyone i love this album
loved it in january, still love it now
don't sweat it little buddy. Just right click on em' and press 'search google for this image'. Some anons are good enough to label their charts >>51788375, >>51790398, >>51790593, >>51791490, >>51791919; and you'll see that these threads contain repeat posters, so you WILL see the same charts over & over again. After about ~5ish of these threads you'll see which albums /mu/ creams themselves for.
absolutely terrible, boring and generic. sounds like muzzak that would be playing in the background of a hair salon.
sounds like a poor man's Lady Gaga going indie rock
pretty good. RTJ2 is better by far, but its still a great album.
ultra generic 'sad guy with acoustic guitar' garbage
more generic indie rock. only standout feature is the singer slurring his vocals over the bland music instead of actually singing
good choice. strange mix of noise, industrial, hardcore/grindcore. sounds like early swans.
fucking trash. can't stand the whiney vocals. sounds like emo blink 182.
bland music that belongs in the background of a super market. boring, uncreative, cliche rap lyrics that don't even really match the music.
yet another bland 'sad guy with acoustic guitar' album. is there a factory somewhere mass producing this stuff?
not exactly my cup of tea, but i do like some other Mt Zion stuff. i do like the musical variety going on here.
not bad, but nothing really special either.
courtney love 2.0
not bad for ambient i guess, but i just went through and listened to Eno's entire catalog so this doesn't sound like anything unique or interesting
sad guy with acoustic guitar + drums
generic garage rock
sad guy with acoustic guitar + drums + occasional distortion pedal
