Rhymes were elementary, basic and predictable.

Delivery was serviceable, get some more confidence. The flow would have made the song dope if you delivered with some heart.

EQ those snares out, work on the bass. would benefit from more than just a kick. The Gucci Gucci samples were tough. Good shit man. Keep it up

i'm just gonna skip people i gave feedback very recently to save time

you've got a nice ensemble of sounds, just add a bit more variation in the beat to keep things interesting and take advantage of utilizing your super high frequencies. nice sample, also. my childhood kicked me in the dick.

i dunno

i like the way you get this track to move without having to introduce super heavy percussion. the way you're providing so much attention to detail on samples you've picked is a major plus also. always nice to hear from you.

i'd suggest playing around with synth modules a bit more. i can tell what you're trying to do, but it's not working in your favor so well given that you've got the stock FL guitar sound and sytrus patches happening here. they don't necessarily work well together, so i strongly encourage programming your own patches in a VST that's easier to work with and making your own ensemble.

listened to i'm a real giant. the recording and production quality are both good, but i wish it progressed a bit faster. that's my only complaint, though. keep up the good work.

this is a bit more spacey and dare i say interesting than what i'd usually hear from grouper's output, but nonetheless i do hear the comparison. also, ruins kicked ass. only wish the track progressed more; it just kinda does the same thing for 5 minutes with little variation which i'm not fond of, even in an ambient track.

listened to fantasma. you've always got a nice ensemble, and this is no exception. i can't really tell you anything you don't already know. keep up the good work.

listened to salud felicité and radicalismo. this is kinda difficult to listen to given your lack of sound design; it feels overwhelmingly like a 90s NPR radio spot. i encourage you to work on programming and production more, because from the look of it you have a solid compositional background. best of luck.

the sample manipulation is cool, but it's mixed a bit high. also, if you're going to bring in a beat so late, i encourage you to get something moving a bit sooner just to keep things interesting, because it does drag for quite some time in the beginning.

you've got some nice subtleties in your production, but there are strange disparities with your rhythms now and again and it sounds like some of your stuff isn't properly pitched for some reason. the absence of a hook or much variation doesn't make it an engaging listen either. keep working at it.

the only thing i don't like is the higher frequencies on that kick. otherwise, neat dark track. would shout over.

it's neat. nice blends of textures, just remember to tune your guitars. i'm not sure what a vocalist would add, though.

listened to baba fats. the production is all well and good, but it needs to progress to keep interesting. as it stands now it's mostly just repeating itself. and that's not much fun. so i'd work on adding some more stuff, i suppose.

this shit moves. especially the way you've got the one synth patch programmed so sparsely. i have no complaints that haven't already been stated by the other guy who told you what's up.

listened to royalties. solid foundation, needs rhythmic variation. it's all very four-four, if that makes sense.

your stock samples are unflattering. if you had some better ones, this could probably be a decent track. they just don't do the composition justice, i'm afraid.

it's neat, just not my speed. no real complaints.

listened to chillout john. you've got a nice ensemble of sounds; even if your sound design is just a hint basic, they work together really well, and that's an important part of getting your foundation down. only thing is the samples are too loud and too quiet in places and cut too drastically.

I do and return all feedback on the cloud
listened to your lights too bright. just up your sound design game and add some more textures in places, take advantage of panning and this'll be pretty solid. keep it up.

listened to the nefarious system. right off the bat, very interesting the way things cut in and out and continue to do so throughout the track, but it feels like it lacks coherency. maybe pitching all of your samples to the same mode will help, i don't know. it's a minor criticism, really. they don't seem to be clashing or anything, so just keep up the good work, i suppose.

good atmosphere, ensemble, and mixing. the flanging on the drums is a nice touch, if a bit overstated.

ffffuck. you're really in it in this track, and you sound like you're having a great time. you're delivering with conviction and confidence and i dig it, especially how you've written the hook. god daaaaamn. definitely gonna follow.

probably one of the better beats i've heard in the thread today, good usage of just about everything. just EQ those drums a bit more and this'll be tight af, good work.

listened to cold haze. it sounds like you're hitting the comp/limiter pretty hard, so i encourage you to watch your levels. it's more than about just not clipping. if you're using a com/limiter just so you don't clip, your tracks are too loud.

listened to bark boat dash. it's not very interesting, as there's little dynamic or melodic variation throughout the piece for a good while. that, and your sound design is very flat and kinda cliche. take advantage of the high end and the VSTs.

takin' a break for now because i need food in my life, back with more feedback in a bit.

Made this yesterday, minimal software (mostly just for arrangement and a couple of automation effects) but for the most part all sounds are recorded in that one from my new keyboard (Elektron Analog Keys). I highly recommend it, you can make so many excellent dreamy sounds with it. I am in love.

feedback train continuing.

only major issue is hte mixing and EQing, otherwise you've got a nice lynchian thing happening here. good for you.

listened to save yourself. that bassline could have been interesting if it was used more sparsely. your production isn't bad. track needs more variation throughout; you're definitely bringing sounds in and out, but you just need some other progression or melody or something different.

very interesting sound design and programming. you've struck a nice balance between la beat and detroit scenes, i think. no complaints on this one.

listened to cool, relax. very clean sounding production, nice sound design and melodies, beat complements to vocals very well, etc. again, no complaints.

your sound design is taking this from topical art to topical humor. the synth sounds are cheesy and there's no real melody line or hook or anything. as well as that, your drum production feels uninspired. you're gonna have to keep cutting this one.

weed weed is what i need

listened to equations end eventually. i get a mass of the fermenting dregs feel from this. i do wish it was better produced and had a bit more going, least of all a bassline. it could probably benefit from further writing.

listened to variations. for a track titled variations, there's not a lot of variance happening here. so it ends up being disinteresting. keep working on it.

i remember this. it's still very nice.

not that interesting. needs context.

sure, if you provide it.

your sound design isn't very interesting, and a lot of the melody in the beginning feels disjointed. it does pick up about a minute in, however. you've got some good ideas here, the way you're filling the space; i just suggest you work on your synth and drum programming.

I'm on the fence about the vocals but none of its bad. Instrumentation is cheese but solid, overall good build and songwriting. Followed. Keep up the good work!

I fear I lack the patience to appreciate your work. I'm just biased against deliberately arrhythmic / amusical stuff in general too. I understand its value as a sonic experience, but I'll never sit down and enjoy 17 minutes of abrasive noise. Regardless, if you enjoy making it, never stop. Cheers!

Moody and loose. The sloppy pocket dropping will fade with practice and time. Nil is my favorite track of what I listened to. Diggin the progression. Followed. Keep it up!

Interesting rhythms, enjoyable harmonies, quirky melodies, and the trite thumpy bass isn't as bad as I expected. Good work. If this is the shit that gets your music dick hard, never stop! Followed.

Reminds me of Flying Lotus on ambien. Chill and spacey with melodic nuances that are easy to enjoy. I dig your work. Looking forward to more. Followed, and cheers!

Finally. Was getting real tired of all that FAKE RAP SHIT. Not particularly interesting stuff, but the timing / phrasing / delivery / energy is quite good. Recording is better than I expected. Looking forward to more shit.

Lots of space and air. Feels incomplete without a more present melody or vocals or rap or something on top. Chill as fuck though. I dig it.

Playful with a solid-but-monotonous trap beat foundation. Not my favorite cup of tea but I can appreciate it. Rhymes get a little lazy at times but this type of shit is more about energetic delivery than compelling lyricism. Followed. Keep it up!

Did you do all the melodic stuff with a keyboard interface or was it software?

greatly appreciate any listens or comments/criticism
strong bass drum programming. i'm feeling it. some nifty sound design choices throughout, especially the squawky thing in the middle that's got a ring mod or something on. no issues.

it's not. you need to key your stuff at least coherently to make it sound like anything worth listening to, or at least put it in a context where it'll sound intentional instead of lazy or uninformed.

you need to work on your production. there's a high end harshness to the track that makes it unpleasant to listen to, and the lows are very loud as well. like you're not using the midrange. use it. otherwise, compelling track.

the intro goes on for quite a while, but that's probably minor given the genre and feel of the track. production needs work- good idea to work on your layering, panning, and EQing, as some of your patches are getting lost beneath each other.

listened to raw lights colored night. do whatever you can to make this sound less like it was made in FL, and you'll be doing okay.

listened to a evangelical mini sorry. music that isn't homemade hip hop, underwhelming electronic music, or good. there's very little happening in the mix here, the drummer doesn't sound good, and there's very little compositionally to keep this interesting. work more.

listened to hatoko. i don't understand. sorry

nice poppy high school feels. i don't have much to say about it, given that there's not much to say about it. good production and performance.

listened to volcano. you need music theory in your life; the counterpoint in your track was dissonant and didn't resolve or progress in a way that would make it pleasing to listen to, and it became tiring.

cozy track. makes me want to cuddle my gf by the fireside. some of the playing is sloppy but i feel like it adds to the feel of the track. it's almost outsider-y at times, but it always feels good.
Ye I am kinda noob with samples and pitcher :/

listened to you don't have my hand. that's some eerie music, doc. it doesn't do a whole lot, though. the layers you add gradually are nice enough. don't have much to say, really.

listened to clumsy mountan king. neat interpolation, the way you're playing it. reminds me of the period with cool and post-bop overlapping. you're no cecil taylor but i do like what you're doing.

>watching dubs
but actually that sample's background music was out of key with your track. don't make life harder for yourself by not properly pitching your samples. just take care to ensure that's in order, and work on your synth programming. drum programming is very tasteful.

just keep working at it. that's the best way to learn stuff like this. that, and music theory.

that's everyone in the thread and i still ain't got feedback. y'all wack af.

Also, feedback because you're generous feedback has gone unrequited.
Dope beats. Do you do the instrumentation or is it sampled?

>electronic neo-psychedelia
listened to floating away. a pretty middle of the road track, but i'm rather impressed with your whistling ability. maybe you could be a professional.

listened to just was. you've got some nice playing. it'd make this track really shine if you added some vox a la american football but that's just 'cause i'm SAD

listened to rewoken. interesting intro, interesting sound design. the whole track feels really understated, which is a neat thing i don't see much in these threads. definitely got a boc/tycho but not awful vibe here.

i can't listen to 20 minutes of this dawg. i'm sorry.

ariel pink pls go
but in actuality i kinda like this, got more somewhere?

listened to hunter. some of the playing needs to be recut, especially around where you're changing chords. i rather like your voice, and i wish it were mixed slightly louder. that is all

thanks. it's my own work. there's not a sample in this track, so it's all my own instrumentation and programming DAW-side. and i don't blame you, i have a bias against it too. i still need to find a projection that works for me as well as my audience, but i'm working on it. thanks for the follow.

listened to shasta. i have no idea what it is with the people in these threads lately and these FM bell tones that are all misplaced. just touch up your sound design, foremost, and see where you go from there. you've made a valiant effort to put out an album, though. that's a pain in the ass.

What do you mean by the sound design isn't very interesting? Are you talking about the eq'ing? I can't really defend the beginning since originally is was just some song stem I found I still had lying around and kind of built on top of it from there. I do plan on reworking this at a later date for an ep perhaps. Why do you suggest I work on my drum programming? I'm just curious. I appreciate the feedback man. I'm always looking to improve.
Everything was done with software. Thanks for listening! I'll be sure to check out some of your stuff man.

>jungle, reverb, cinematic

should I pursue this kind of sound?
by sound design, i mean the initial bell-type synth patch, which sounds like it was a preset from sytrus. your drum programming isn't bad, but it'd really take it up a notch if you played with the subdivisions a bit more or made it more sparse just to add some rhythmic variation rather than putting out straight 4/4.
That's really what my soundcloud is for, like jotting down my ideas or uploading jams for relistening later. My bandcamp is much more polished, and I have a few tracks saved up to release all at once soon enough. Sound advice nonetheless
Also the drumming thing, I haven't really put time into polishing my drum tracks yet because they're just a bitch to record, I'm trying to improve them though.

What exactly does sloppy pocket dropping mean? I'm assuming it's something to do with the drums. And thanks for the follow, I'm glad you like nil, glad you could look past the drums getting off at some parts. Also holy shit you have a lot of tracks, that's wild.

i'm the evangelical mini sorry dude, but yeah it's just a jam, not exactly a compositional masterpiece

You would definitely benefit from using other instruments, very good guitar playing though, have a follow

>it has samples n shit
listened to yalgruf windcaller. i'm honestly not super impressed by this, but it's very pleasant to listen to. i'm enjoying it quite a bit.

this is still pretty good. reccin'

no worries, dude. i don't come to these threads to be impressed, i come to try to give honest feedback to people so i can help them get more potential out of their music and learn to make better tracks. it normally results in me being an asshole, so don't pay no mind.

Ah ok. I suppose that I could alter that synth a little more to add some uniqueness to it, but I honestly like how it sounds as it is. I will look into trying to change it some without taking out the parts of it I enjoy. I get what you mean with the drums. I can see how that could be too repetitive or simple for a lot of people. I will take your advice into consideration when I'm reworking this. I really appreciate the actual feedback you're giving me rather than just a simple "sounds cool", or "followed" or the like. I'll check your stuff out as soon as I can. I got a final tomorrow to study for ha

working on a new EP that will be a collaborative project so look out for more details on that.
>this is still pretty good. reccin'

thanks, I think I am feeling an EP of this.
wish you'd pan and EQ some of that; better production would really serve this well. other than that, nice ideas presented here; some variations in the drum break and a fill or two might make things more interesting too.

your synth sounds are all pretty flat, consider learning to program a VST. that'll take you much farther. also, vary your velocity some; there's no dynamic to anything and that's not very interesting.

ultimately, if you like it, don't worry about it. art's not necessarily about making the best stuff you can, it's about doing what the fuck you want, since we can't do that with everything. it's more or less a hedonistic outlet. so just do whatever you want. good luck on your finals, mang.

>What exactly does sloppy pocket dropping mean?

When the rhythm section of a band is in perfect time and sync, they're "in the pocket". Even professional bands wobble around it, but the bass and the drums usually hold the responsibility of keeping it steady.

I understand the difficulty of recording drums and keeping time. Best of luck!

A work in progress.

>electronic, plunderphonics, beats, jazz influenced

>beats, samples, electronic
Love the warbling synth and the rolling snare hits. I feel like if the sample had been cut somewhere at the end rather than fading it would have felt more... idk, deliberate?

Listened to 'I Can't Forget You'. Like the sense of atmosphere, very pretty. I like the way it fades out too. I think the beat could be more interesting and louder, the pattern and samples start to feel a little tiring around the two minute mark.

I feel like this track wants to feel very airy and dreamy and it doesn't. The melodies and beat all feel very plodding and weighty and he silences feel very calculated in a way that personally I don't think really works.

Really like the piano melody, the way the backing track feels jilted and dissonant in the chorus and the outro is pretty cool. Rapping wise I like your flow and tone, lyrically there's a few interesting/clever lines but I feel like the shortcomings in your verses don't really matter in this style.

Love the beat, the parts when the bass hits are shorter, more plucky feel a little jarring to me in the way they cut off but idk I think it kinda works to the tracks benefit? Nice Work

I would have liked to hear the vocals and the ambience in the outro mixed a touch louder. The melody gets to feel a little bit samey by the end but overall I'm liking it.

Didn't really capture my attention until the beat comes in around 1:35. I was expecting a slower half time beat which makes it all the more interesting when the drums do arrive. I also think the intro feels a little drawn out but overall it works.

Listened to Strong Meds. Really like the beat and the interplay between the vocal sample and the pad in the section around 1:10 and again around 2:30. I feel like this track could have benefited from being shorter or more variation over the course of the four and a half minutes. Look forward to hearing more from you.

>chill, ambient, dystopian, cyberpunk, electronic

Hmm I will say I didn't try to make the song with any of those intentions in mind. I don't really understand what exactly you mean by saying everything feels plodding and weighty. Nor do I quite get how the "calculated" silences don't work. Could you elaborate more? I'm just curious and trying to understand your viewpoint.

Hip Hop beat
Sample: Tri Beam from Dragon Ball
Really liking the space in this track. Like the beat but as you say would benefit from verses over the top to add another layer of interest. Nice work.

Listened to Would You Mind. Drums need more punch and the attempt at swing with the double kicks doesn't feel quite natural, comes off a little robotic. Assuming the drums that come in around fifty seconds aren't the only thing you added to the sample I think the middle section of this track is reasonably successful if a little repetitive. I find your additions at the beginning and end a little questionable as they further prevent this feeling like a cohesive track.
Also, I listened to a bit of the next two tracks; Odyssey and Challenge. Both of which are vastly different in mood and style both to each other and to Would You Mind, plus not as interesting imo. idk man I think you need to pick a sound and stick to it.

Everything feels so on the beat, the gap around 40 secs feels like a too short and predictable spacing. Like, I feel like it would have been more interesting for the parts where you use silence to be stretched out and allowed to breathe a bit more. imo it just feels like the track wants more swing, more bop. idk how better to put it.
tabby said it better, i think.
This is what it would sound like if mozart did bumps of coke before his compositions
