How is the music scene in your area /mu/?
What are some of your favorite local acts?
Pls post links of bands too.
It's terrible. There's like, no real venues or gigs near here from what I know from my life living here. The bands here are shit too.
I remember meeting a guy at a Cumberland Farms (local convenience store chain) and he told us about his band 'Part the Seas'.
Looked them up and this is what I found
Did I mention that almost everyone here has shit taste in music? If they don't listen to Top 40 garbage they're listening to some scenecore deathcore wannabe garbage. It's kinda sad. There's like no one to discuss music with.
Most the music scene in LA is mostly punk music. Which is cool at times.
Here are some cool LA bands that I can think of right now
Yeah dude, Burger bands are pretty much conquering the scene rn. I'm glad you liked Thurst most people don't know about them(Given that their demo has only been for like 2 weeks) it was really cool to find a gem like that in LA.
Cleveland bro here
The music scene is really good and varied
These 2 bands have friends of mine in them
There's also a band named Sunmouth that plays shoegaze, but they don't have anything online. I first saw them open for Whirr and I was blown away.
I'm hoping my project can get off the ground soon.
Thing that is sad about it is that the Burger fanbase think they support their DIY scene when they buy a Growlers or Black Lips cassette at the Burger store at a show, they're so delusional to seeing what's out there.
I mean I don't know much about the DIY scene so I can speak much on behalf of it but then again it's obvious to see how blind Burger kids are.
Thrust is pretty cool, didn't really like Pile of Napkins, and I've already listened to Together Pangea before
SF Bay Area here, don't know much about the local scene much but here is a band I highly enjoy from the scene.
both these bands are fairly popular where I live
Savannah, GA has graveface records http://www.graveface.com/
They have some semi-decent shit but nothing I would listen to if I didn't have the local connection
Oh shit am I? Yeah I like a lot of pleb shit but it's okay cause I enjoy and don't casually force myself to like shit the majority of this board likes (e.g. MF Doom, Swans)
Hit me up on Last.fm and we suggest each other local bands. I'll be on the look for more Bay Area shit
UGA fag here, so I guess I get to post
I really have gotten into Dead Confederate though
>distorted echo reverb surf glitter punk
>Noisy Post Punk
>Garage punk with lots of guitar solos and anime cute shit
Overall Salt Lake City has a pretty good scene for being a pretty small city. Everyone knows each other and collaboration is easy. And everyone really likes noisy guitar, that lets me play my weird shit and not really bother anyone.
if you're an emo fan you've prob seen them on here. I live about an hour away from conway where they're based. one of my friend's friends actually went to prom with hunter clifton mann
a few ok bands and literally nothing else. very few shows. no bands from out of town want to play here because nobody goes to shows- so basically there is no actual scene. you have to drive an hour to Columbia, SC to see anyone good.
also like 90% of the people in the scene here are terrible people. most are your typical hxc vegan tryhards who have literally no future outside of Augusta, or anywhere else. it's very cliquey, not a lot of fun to be a part of.
here are a couple of decent bands, the guys who play in them are cool too. if you're into topshelf records emo bands, you'll probably dig them:
whoa typ haus is gone? my friends band played a show there a couple years ago on fourth of july. That shit was fucking legendary. I'll be sad to see it go.
Little Rock, AR
best local band I've heard
North NJ here as well, there's a lot of young kids playing in emo and post rock bands who are starting to get out and tour and I think it's a good time to be living in the area
SYDNEY. We got some hella good shit
>holy fucking shit an actually interesting thread
I live in Buffalo NY and music scene is fucking horrible. Unless I'm missing something I'm 95% sure it's mostly bands either wanting to STILL be The Devil Wears Prada, The Acacia Strain, or Title Fight.
We lack an electronic music scene almost entirely, and basically one promotion company runs the show for the entire town, there's a couple guys around here who ARE trying to make an effort but the main promoter unfortunately shits on them in every way.
Really interested in other people's thoughts who have perhaps played through here
I live in Fullerton where they have their Burger Records shop. If it wasn't for them having a good selection on Record Store Day and Cassette Store Day, I would never go there opposed to other local record stores.
The dudes that run the place are total shitheads who can't hold a music discussion and have the worst selection of records. They're all about their image as a scene rather than anything worthwhile.
we had an emo scene. the giants back was my best friends house. all the bands broke up. there is nothing left now. every day is a blessing when you have a functioning music scene. take nothing for granted my friends.
>you will never have the feels of going to The Smell and seeing David Scott Stone or in their prime No Age while eating top grade tofu burgers and drinking substandard american beer.
pls kill me
Milwaukee is alright. There are some cool acts, but I kind of feel like there good stuff in any bigger city. I feel like I see people all the time that are as good as most bands you see on pitchfork, but that doesn't really make me think highly of those bands so much as it makes me think lowly of the semi-famous indie scene.
ohh snap the dudes in wild moth are good buds
you should check out these other projects as well
Overall the SF bay area is pretty neat with the punk/diy scene
it was truly an amazing thing in its time. our sunday affairs, empire empire, the world is, the reptilian, dads, tawny peaks, the skin cells, fucking midwest pen pals, high fives, hundred acre woods, marietta, girl scouts, toasted plastic, modern baseball, perfect future, joe shlabotnik, william bonney
, all played in my town. in my friends little basement.
Can this become a shitty local bands thread?
This is literal dog shit.
yea ive seen most of them before but they all ripped. got some tapes too. cozy in bed given a little listen post show.
South Texas, nothing but shit post-hardcore groups trying to be like every other band on Rise Records with a few bands trying to make it as part of the burger scene, nothing at all extraordinary
clique is basically the best in philly right now and cyber bully is great peeps, yur a good dude anon
im just disappointed i didnt get to see the last secret plot show but i kinda cant stand ruben so its w/e
Oxnard, California. If any of you are into hardcore punk, the Nardcore scene is pretty great.
The Missing 23rd
>Edmonton, Alberta (Canada)
The scene here isn't the worst. There's some groovy shit you just gotta look and sift through some shit.
This is from YEG
This is groovy
lol tru the scene owes him a debt of gratitude so i cant say nothin. yea that was sad shit but yargas always has cop problems.
also panuccis pizza is fucking great i love matt like as a person did you see them play with bonjour machines and marietta at mj house in august? easily the best show ive been to since i saw glocca morra at the secret art
I live in Adelaide, the home of crapcore. Whenever I think of the local music scene I want to hang myself. Nothing vaguely relevant/good has come out of this shithole since barnesy and ACDC. These days I don't even know of any local bands that aren't teenage metalcore faggots or just shit.
the biggest scene in philly is for party punk and hardcore. everything else is cast out and ignored.
ruben thinks he runs the entire philly scene when in reality he throws on shows for the guitar rock bands and brags about it on fb. congrats on totally outcasting anyone who doesn't fit the image of the shows you're throwing.
>tfw you find your friend's trip
>tfw he doesn't viral your band
nah i was p much away all summer and didnt go to any shows but that sounds like a killer line up. andrew from marietta lives like right down the street from me, cool dude. so many good bands doin shit, 2015 is gonna be a great year.
yeah been to couple at the great indoors and elsewhere. it's decent. i feel like a lot of noise is some idiot making a feedback loop with a few pedals which is okay but i'm trying to see something that's engaging for more than a couple minutes. it's definitely tight knit but everyone is loads more accommodating than the tumblr crowd at golden teahouse or mj or what have you. it's as if the noise guys give a shit (at least moreso than the punk scene).
showing up to shows isn't everything. the work you put out is a lot more important. philly punks forget this and that's why the scene is stagnating. at least there's a bit of innovation in the noise scene (even if most guys are making feedback loops).
yea i like both scenes but they are different animals. i try to support everything that ripps but u can tell the crowds that attend some of the shows at golden and mj r just bored drexel and temple students w/ not much investment in the music. it can be kinda weak.
Portland, Oregon has a pretty dope music scene here. Lots of house shows and most of the band's are pretty good. A few of my favorites don't have any recordings ywt, which is lame.
Some band's I know:
Wollongong, NSW here
There's some good hardcore stuff in the vein of Converge and their like. These two bands played with Full of Hell when they toured at the beginning of the month.
Miners is a pretty cool shoegaze band.
Thomas Covenant and Basil's Kite have almost the same band members and are extremely cool guys.
Hoon are this weird punk/metal band.
Reactionary does this cool ambient stuff
Midnight Karaoke does some interesting vaporwave.
Moonase Commander makes dope hip hop beats.
Austin, Texas scene is doing very well as you all probably know. Here are some links of my favorites.
Some of you will enjoy this.
Dude, Triathalon are amazing. Their new CD lo-tide is killer. also Wet Socks are pretty great. I just moved to brooklyn though, but I lived in savannah for a couple years. If you hangout between hangfire and the jinx enough you'll hear some good shit. Also, house shows are great in savannah and if you're going to SCAD I recommend you drop out ASAP and stop wasting your money.
>some anon lives in the same city as me
>not in the US
>not in the UK
>not even in an english speaking country
>there are frenchfags on 4chan aside from /a/
fucking incredible local bands that should be heard.
Also Savannah has the fucking Cape Fear parties dude! Those parties are so much fun, once a month, usually cheap at hangfire or somewhere else downtown. Honestly the best dance party in the area, even the local drag queens haus of gunt go and get their disco biscuits buttered over there.
I miss Savannah, you gotta dig for it but the scene there is super cool.
I am slightly jelly of you.
Philly anons, how do I get into the scene? I've heard a few local bands in passing but they were all "party punk" as you said, and they didn't really appeal to me.
I disagree. The scene here has gotten much less dynamic, but we still have originated and currently have a few gems in the general pile of shit.
They Mean Us, Quiet Kids, The Wailing Fleet, Porkeria are all good and current acts. Although TMU has moved away, they recently reunited and came down.
Oberlin has some of the sickest bands ever.
>Beer Shits - Beer Shits
>punk, college rock
>D8ing - D8ing
>experimental, noise rock, sludge
>Fürsona - U Aint Hard Broe
>Existential Animals - Surrealith
>Blacker Face - Demo
>fucking best band in Oberlin College. PT is a god amongst men.
Nashville. there is a pretty good music scene here if you get around all the country/singer songwriter bullshit.
one of my favorite live bands ever an d fucking great people, singer is cool as shit
Brian mothafuckin Chippendale
Awesome post-punk band, they need to release more music.
homie just drive to Providence, Olneyville scene thing is alive and well. DIY shows all the time
Nope, I've been working a lot :(
Clique are fucking excellent
Panucci's are also excellent, I was gonna play a show with them earlier this year but it kinda fell apart before it happened. I've been friends with Matt on Facebook for a while and I think we live pretty close to each other so imma try to go to the next show at their place
some band from Austin, I think, that rolled through my town in the summer.
Ben David is poser trying his hardest to be Wil Fagner.
Hydromedusa, Iron Worzel, Swamplung are great. Every other half decent band has been taken over by heroin and alcoholism
Ottawa. Its becoming slightly ok
Party punk / garage
Expiremental trap I guess
weird surf punk
