>>53307153 why do people dislike viva la vida? is it because this album was the equivalent of what AM was in 2013 and American idiot in 2005? is it just because /mu/ just doesnt like coldplay because the band's name is associated with dads and kids who claim to have alternative taste? im not a coldplay fan at all but personally i think this is a pretty good album, what are your thoughts /mu/
>Dad Celtic,Folk,Country,Pitchforkcore, Bluegrass, Jazz Rock >Mom Pop Rock, Momcore >Brother not big into music, but likes vidya game music and stuff like Creed and Nickleback >Friend One trip hop, noise, experimental hip hop, avant-garde stuff >Friend Two screamo, alt rock, metalcore, art pop/rock, folk rock, hip hop
All my other friends have vague to no interest at all in music and aren't worth noting.

Friend 1 - Plan B, Eminem, whatever is one TV/Radio - his musical experience is essentially some mainstream rap and whatever is on the radio.
Friend 2 - Area 11, Rise Against, Anime Music... when asking me for recommendations because he's bored of his stuff, I asked him to describe what kinda of music he likes. Response: "I like everything but Gangsta Rap". Ugh.
Friend 3 - Laura Marling, Regina Spektor, general singer-songwriter stuff too. They've recently dabbled in NMH.
Dad: Dunno really, brought up Alan Parsons project to me once Mom: Van Morrison, Cat Stevens, Willie Nelson, INXS Brother 1: Coheed and Cambria, La Dispute, Black Dahlia Murder, Anamanaguchi, Blackalicious, Mozart, tons of other shit (can't figure out his taste at all, it makes no sense) Brother 2: Drive By Truckers, Trambled by Turtles, Tallest Man on Earth, Bob Dylan, Glenn Branca, the Stooges, old school hip hop, jazz
Friend 1: Bon Iver, Fleet Foxes, Death Grips, Lou Reed, Vampire Weekend, Muse, Radiohead Friend 2: a ton of jazz, Lil B
>Dad Tom Petty, The Black Keys, Pink Floyd, The Who, The Eagles...stuff like that. I was actually the one who turned him onto Led Zeppelin when I was younger. He was a Cure fan in his teens and went to a few shows they did. He is trying to get into more modern music and seems open but knows what he likes. I showed him Bon Iver and he wasnt a fan of his voice. He finds UMO trying too hard to be strange
>Mum Top 40 stuff and 80s stuff like Pat Benatar etc She likes pop music essentially
>Younger brother Lots of remixes/chill electronic stuff he finds on Soundcloud, Old high school tier jazz staples, The Black Keys, Ed Sheeran. As of recent I mostly see him listening to MTV top 40 stuff or going through chill tempo electronic soundcloud playlists etc He's a great drummer but doesnt listen to much rock music or anything which is fine. I tried showing him Fly Lo's latest album and he liked the jazz elements. Might try show him Clams Casino and stuff.
I bond with my dad over music. Was probably easier as he got back not playing music several years ago so now we talk about playing and bands etc I think he is having trouble with me going from dad rock fanatic as a young teen to "fuck these old geezers" now
My dad is great to talk music with. He sincerely gives every album/artist I rec him a try. When I told him to listen to NMH, he listened to both ITAOTS and On Avery Island in full. Hasn't loved everything I recommend him, but really likes Boards of Canada.
>Brother He's adopted my pretentious tendencies without any taste. Usually wants to listen to Run the Jewels while he plays league. Hates anything high-pitched.
>Mom Sirius radio funk, soul and hip hop stations. Sometimes displays knowledge in prog and/or classical, but mostly from my dad.
>Dad Prime patrician. Listens to chamber music, opera, classical of all eras (mainly Mahler and Shostakovich). He's also very much into prog, loving artists such as Genesis, King Crimson and Robert Wyatt. Also a fan of art pop such as Bjork and Kate Bush, and occasionally indulges in camp like ABBA or Eurovision. Usually criticizes me for listening to stuff that's too inaccessible for him.
>Best friend Radio pop (usually Lady Gaga), Joanna Newsom, Janelle Monae, James Blake
>Other good friend A lot of what I listen to, plus quite a bit of noise and sound collage
>QT friend Radio indie, LDR, Band of Horses, sometimes really poppy pop punk, and popular Modest Mouse and Weezer songs (Float On, Beverly Hills)
>Other friend Sufjan, Modest Mouse, alt-J, Son Lux, and recently, of Montreal

>mum radio, 80's classics >sister 1 Coldplay, One Republic, etc. is the single least cultured person i know. Doesn't understand why anyone would like pic related (a famous artist in our country) as it's "really creepy". >sister 2 Doctor who remixes of popular songs, general autism-core. >dad New Wave & synth-pop classics. not that big on music. He said Tears for Fears was his favourite band in history, so i got him the Hurting on vinyl for his birthday. He didn't reccognise it, thought it was a new one of theirs, had to tell him that it's their first album. He checked the tracklist on the back and said "oh yeah, Mad World, i know that one"
>friend 1 only friend more patrish than me, mostly hip-hop, soul, and Jazz. Only genre i know more about him is Post-rock
>friend 2 Singer/songwriter. Just tries to find the least played artists on spotify who play a guitar and sing in a whiny voice. Bit of an "indie-kid". He's open though, he likes a lot of the hip-hop we play when we hang out.
>friend's 3,4,5 Just hip-hop really. not bad hip-hop taste, like DOOM, Flying Lotus, etc. but don't really listen to anything else.
>mom 80s pop, like Duran Duran, Softcell, Talking Heads, Depeche Mode, the like. >dad Generic dadrock, like Def Leppard and Loverboy >sister Radio pop or nu metal says her favorite band is Theory of a Deadman >friends Radio pop, radio rap, radio folk Closest friend was a le wrong generationer He moved to Baltimore
Dad: Metal, Classic Rock, occasional Prog Mom: Depeche Mode, Black Flag, Joy Division, Guns n' Roses Friend: Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music. This is all he listens to. I gave him Tarkus by ELP for Christmas and he burned it then listened to the album again

>Brother Minecraft soundtrack, chiptune, megaman stuff, got him to like Boards of Canada and Autechre somehow
>Sister Top 40
>Girlfriend The Killers, Crystal Castles, Chvrches, Blink-182, White Stripes, etc. We really have conflicting tastes except I introduced her to a lot of synth pop shit that I like and she can deal with anything not too abrasive or experimental like any dream pop or shoegaze or indie or anything like that.
>Friend 1 Pretty much gets into stuff I've listened to I know he's big on Swans, Can, Big Black, Whitehouse, Burzum, mainly classic stuff in each respective genre.
>Friend 2 Quasimoto, MF Doom, Death Grips, Converge, Botch, The Chariot, pretty decent taste but not really open to anything that isn't hardcore or hip-hop.
>Friend 3 Death Grips, American Football, Purity Ring, Blank Banshee, countless shitty youtube electronic mixes
The rest of my friends have pretty shit taste other than some psych rock or hiphop that is pretty universally liked.
>dad dadrock >mom nickelback, limp bizkit, rush, avril lavigne, kelly clarkson, hokey shit >sister dubstep, youtube meme shit >brother fedora stuff, nine inch nails, steam powered giraffe, electroswing, pandora-core >brother 2 hard rock, top 40
i think ive lost all my friends, but my best one listens to tons of 80s/weeb music
>Dad Grateful Dead, Allman Brothers, Jimmy Buffett >Mom 80s/90s pop music, James Taylor, Christmas Music >Brother Weird Al, Dadrock, Frankie Valli >gf U2, radio music derivative of U2, 90s pop >friends Either metal or pop punk
>dad pretty much just dadrock. He always tells me I remind him of a friend he had in high school who listened to "weird" music and the only artists my dad recognized in his record collection were Zappa and VU. Pretty sure this kid was a proto-/mu/tant >mom pop from the 70's 80's, but most of the time she keeps music off because it hurts her head >sister country mainly >friends some of my friends can't in to music, some like safe shit, like classic rock and 90's bands. Some have similar taste to me though
>dad anything that has a talented female voice in it, from This Mortal Coil to Epica, Nightish via Blood Red Shoes. thanks to him, i've been bathed in all kinds of musics since my crib.
>mum not much into music, because of dad's tendancy to put lound things. enjoys slow, smooth music and novel CD's when we travel far. she always finds really cool stuff. /last time we travelled together, it was a Åke Edwardson thriller, Frozen Tracks. it's a story that happens in three ages at once, with a good finale.
>first younger sis. Corean stuff, OST's, Lisa Gerrard, indie music. >youngest sis. totally into corean stuff. even lives like. i hardly discuss music with her, mostly because i hate that mainstream makeshift show off music. /yeah i am an asshole sometimes. >lil, late bro. Likes corean stuff, and pretty much everything his sisters request when I pull one of my CD's..friggin' traitor. He's too young to be tagged yet. Would have more influence on him if i wasnt in another country, i guess.
>mom most melodic artists or top 40 pop songs that are playing on the radio >dad bruce springsteen, creedence clearwater revival, tiesto and some other stuff i don't know how it's called >cousin god is an astronaut, mono, mogwai, toe, brand new and massacre
>mom and dad dad likes all the classics, both like 80's hair metal, mom usually sticks to the radio >sister metalcore, pop music,
>friends have like 5 good friends, mostly all into trap and drill music, one of my friends is a /mu/tant, and who i would consider to be my best friend likes some /mu/core stuff, but mostly sticks to hip-hop and any kind of rock music >me literally everything, but mostly noise, noise-rock, punk, house, and experimental.
How do you KNOW exactly what your family/friends listen to? I mean if they only ever put on music in the car or something okay, but especially for friends and to a lesser extent siblings who are presumably not with you a lot of the time and often on their computers...have you been through their libraries? Like, if you asked this question to my family about me they'd probably tell you I listen to Linkin Park and Muse and maybe a couple of random prog bands even though I have like 1000 artists in my library because they just remember the stuff I would talk about when I was getting into music way back when.
I dunno, just might be something worth thinking about. Who knows what people would put under your entry if they were writing a list about you, it could come off pretty damning without any context.
>Mum Berghain-esque techno podcasts on Soundcloud. She likes Coil, Destroyer and The Divine Comedy too. >Dad He was into post-punk in the 80s. Right now he's better than me at checking out music blogs sharing obscure stuff. >Friends Mainly /mu/core, noise rock and experimental electronic. >Gf Mostly electronic. She likes Forest Swords, High Places, Dean Blunt/Inga Copeland and Nicolas Jaar. We're going to Nisennenmondai show tomorrow.

Mum - Dusty Springfield, Ron Sexsmith, Leonard Cohen and Bob Marley are the only things I know she really listens to.
Dad - Jazz and Gospel Music (though he's not religious). Also enjoys Tom Waits and blues. He has a pretty eclectic taste though since he gave me a copy of Arcade Fire's Funeral in early 2005 and knew about Kanye West before his first album even dropped. We occasionally go to gigs together like Bruce Springsteen, Arcade Fire and Honeyboy Edwards.
>Dad My dad has a pretty cool taste, and him and I share a lot of music together. He does of course listen to a lot of music from when he was a young, but he is very open to all genres, except country. He hates country music.
>Mom Dad/momrock kind of things. Favourites being Pink Floyd (Waters era), The Police, and Dire Straits
>Sister Listens to Radiohead and Gorillaz. Other than that she listens to really awful music. Fun party drinking songs, parody songs, and other Tumblr-core kind of shit.
>Friend 1 EDM and Club music... even when he's at home.
>Friends 2 & 3 Dadrocker. Listens to oldies like Beatles and Pink Floyd, and also "90's kids" type of stuff like RHCP and Foo Fighters.
