So I was reading some of the lyrics on the Powers That B and holy shit does Stefan actually have serious problems? Like I know that he probably came from a shitty background but does he do really hard drugs or some shit? What do you think Stefan's life is like?
I think his parents probably act whiter than I do and he's really bitter about the fact that he grew up in upper-middle class suburbia and has no real street cred amongst actual hard-asses.
We can't have a conversation because no one really knows.
What we do know is that his dad wasn't there for him when he was little. We know that he was in art school for a while and dropped out. We know that he listened to black metal, jimi hendrix and bob dylan. He started with much more minimalist, low-key experimental hip hop before he grew into his current vocal style (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p611hMnrGKE).
Was he addicted to something maybe? Maybe he had clinical depression. We don't know. He's a very quiet and reclusive person. He doesn't trust people. He's given maybe 3 interviews.
Just don't worry about it. If we need to know he'll tell us.
FACTS ABOUT STEFAN WORTHY OF TAKING NOTE
>grew up in California
>parents split up
>has a younger brother called 'Swank Daddy'
>dropped out of art school
>neighbors with Zach Hill
>fan of poetry and literature
>into the occult
>thinks sex is a waste of time
Don't see why people have a problem with this interview. I mean, did you really expect stefan to be a normal chit-chatting dude and not say some off kilter stuff? It's not that edgy either.
they have meaning but it changes, it is reinterpreted according to current situation and other tats that were added
people that have lots of tats don't even take them that seriously
what we know about stefan:
>not into surface reality
>likes jimi hendrix
>does psychedelics and coke
>his father used to be an alcoholic
>got his first tattoo at the age of 19
>is friends with robert pattison
>art school dropout
Just watched the p4k interview where they talk about expectations and doing what they feel like - can't agree enough - people try to turn their expectations into your obligations, then blame you when they're not satisfied. How are any of us supposed to profit when we can't retain dignity and composure and some degree of autonomy in our work?
*Meetings for instance - I always do the work I could be getting done in my head while I'm in a meeting. I could get so much done if these dicks didn't insist on giving voice to issues already obvious to anyone competent.*
You say that as if there's something wrong with that.
I think he has things figured out as well as he can for himself, and says fuckall to everything else.
Not being impressed by human achievement is pretty ubermensch. Not being into surface reality is pretty transcendental. I think he's seen some shit.
He's his own man, and there aren't a lot of people in this world who can say that.
Also people try and pass these expectations off as criticism. Which they aren't, they are illogical preferences. The phrase "It's not what I expected it to sound like" isn't a criticism against the sound presented, it's you preferring the previous sound.
Serious question: why is Kanye so valued? I'm trying to understand but I don't get it. I don't see anything special in his instrumentals, maybe they're somewhat innovative but that by itself doesn't automatically mean that they're gold or fitting. His lyrics are nothing interesting and his rapping is the same. That's my opinion so far of course.
Why does he get such good reviews? I'm staying intrigued until I can understand.
I don't see nothing edgy in this, he's not pretending, you can see it in the man's eyes.
You woukd exoect a grown man like him to be wise and that's what he is, a wise man to himself, he lives inside him and nothing more.
are u kidding me?
his dad sounds like the typical guy who abused his wife and kids and 20years later hes trying to amend his wrongs because he found "god"
If both his sons don't speak to him its clear indication of what he did was wrong
>not eating fruit
I double pray you do not don't not do this
which one do you think is stefan?
Human achievements, eh?
>Larry Ellison "earned" his own island
>He always had a home and clean water
>who gives a fuck what he achieved when he had it all handed to him and others are watched by vultures from their very births.
Not being amused by this is perfectly reasonable.
seriously though get out of his personal life this is the reason he doesnt do interviews. Zach said he is a really nice guy but he just really likes his privacy. respect him. and when you see them live dont get on the stage because that stage is his and he will teach you how to swim.
exactly. I can understand wanting to know about the man of mystery but you fucks are invading and dissecting this mans family and life. I hope i dont see any of you fucking crazies at the DG shows.
this would be a serious test of their credibility since they consider themselves to be an art exhibition, meaning it's ultimately not tied to a band of fixed persons
of course they could just ignore it. but if the album was enough good, enough DG, and enough popular...
I don't want to sound like a meme spouter, but that's exactly what semi-ironically liking Kanye is: a meme.
Faced with any criticism, Kanye fans will pretend to be black, accuse you of being a "hater" or "racist", and respond with claims about Kanye so exaggerated you for know if they're kidding or not.
It started out as one of those Taylor Swift-esque things, "no guys, this brainless pop star really is a great musician!", but people started to actually believe it since /mu/ is such a hivemind. Then Pitchfork gave MBDTF a 10, and it cemented everything.
