I'm going to be sharing singles from the Sub Pop Singles club. The Singles club was a marketing scheme Sub Pop used to get money up front when they were just starting and in exchange members got a seven inch mailed to them monthly by some of the best bands around. Most of the releases are noise rock, but there's a lot more variety than the generic grunge sound you might expect.
They're only seven inches so in the spirit of the club and the times (when usually when you bought a record, you bought it unheard) I'm not posting descriptions or previews - at under 10MB just DL it and see what you think!
Please help the thread by sharing singles or EPs, or just with a bump
The Verve - Verve EP (1992)
>Indie rock, neo-psychedelia, shoegazing, space rock, dream pop
This has the full length versions of Gravity Grave and She's A Superstar instead of the edited versions which were included on the original release.
Nirvana - Love Buzz b/w Big Cheese
SP 23 - Nov 1988
>Niravana's first release, Shocking Blue cover
I shared the first year of singles recently, but have since cleaned up the tags better. After a few (improved) reposts there'll be a bunch of new shares
Sonic Youth + Mudhoney
>split single with each band cover each other's songs
>great songs, and a class move on Sonic Youth's part helping what was an obscure label get off the ground
>personally, I think Mudhoney's cover is better than the original
Flaming Lips - Drug Machine b/w Strychnine / Whats So Funny 'bout Peace Love and Understanding
SP28 [Jan 1989].
>not a big Flaming Lips fan, but I suspect this isn't available on their own releases?
Les Thugs - Chess and Crimes b/w Sunday Time
SP29 [Feb 1989]
>basically forgotten now, but a good band and worth hearing still
Helios Creed -Nothing Wrong b/w The Sky
Sub Pop SP30, released March 1989
>the guitarist from Chrome, a fuckin' noise rock icon
